Compensation ceiling: $99. They apologized about the incident as if they were sorry that it was raining that day - not losing 2 pieces of luggage and not having any means to track them. Check-in personnel: They only gave me a single luggage tag for 3 pieces of luggage - they should have given me 3. Would have made tracing lost luggage easier. Employee @ IAD told me that if I didn't show up at the boarding gate 40 minutes prior to boarding that they would remove my luggage from airplane and that I could risk losing flight (wtf?). Icelandair is one of the worst airlines I have ever flown. I highly recommend looking elsewhere. They may offer rates 20% cheaper than other major carriers, but that discount accompanies a steep price. It's an airline run by inexperienced, lackluster, apathetic staff who, frankly, have no business operating an airline. If your options are flying with a major carrier vs Icelandair - and the price difference is a few hundred $: pay the extra money; you'll be glad you did. Icelandair's prices are not low enough to justify all the discomforts and liabilities which accompany them. Look elsewhere. Keep this in mind: I'm a seasoned flyer. This airlines barely ranks one notch up from Ryanair."

Cons: "Although I paid for a confirmed seat and chose my seat 6 months in advance, when 24 hour check-in rolled around I was told I had been moved to standby and would thus only have a seat if there were any left once everyone else had checked in. I had to wait until I arrived at the airport the day of to even find out if I had a seat. There were only two left when I checked in, so I just barely got on the flight. I had originally chosen a seat next to a friend traveling with me in the middle of the cabin, in the end I got a seat in the very back of the plane- no room in the overhead bins since they were reserved for flight equipment, couldn't recline, and was right by the kitchen, so it was too noisy to sleep. When I called customer service to try to fix all of this, in the middle of explaining my problem (after waiting on hold for an hour) I was told to stop talking and that it was the rep's turn to talk. In addition to not getting my problem resolved, he hung up on me! Worst treatment I've ever received on an airpline, and I've flown thousands of times on dozens of airlines. Once this trip is over I am never flying Icelandic again!"

Boarding was extremely slow, in part because gate personnel made no effort whatsoever to police and enforce the four-group boarding process (premium - no carry-on - group A - group B). People boarded whenever they felt like it, many carrying on huge backpacks and multiple other pieces. Will definitely avoid TAP in future."

My problem is not only the wait once we land, but most improtsntly that the bags are beat up in the journey. Indeed, my carry-on arrived with several scratches on the plastic edges as well as some signs of worn on the textile. Because of this carry-on baggage size restrictions, I will not fly TAP airlines again (unless I can travel with my hand purse only)."

They made us line up about 45 minutes before we actually boarded. So we were all standing around as opposed to being seated in waiting area. We did not board until after our take-off time. (3) Seats were really tight, uncomfortable and don't recline much."

Cons: "i booked the flight in january and keyed in my passport expiration date several times online in the next several months...at the airport, i handed the air canada agent in miami my passport and she booked me and a checked bag through toronto to copenhagen...i went to board my connecting flight in toronto and was told my passport, which expires at the end of august, was no good as i needed to have 3 month left...so they refused to let me board and told me to go see customer service...so i go stand in line for several hours (was only one agent for the first 45 minutes and 10 people in front of me)...one woman going down the line to see what each person's issue was told me that it was my problem, not AC's...and that "we are only responsible for making sure your passport is valid for getting into canada"...i was on my own to find a hotel and a new flight...fortunately a supervisor saw me standing in a daze several minutes later and said that it was AC's mistake for not catching it in miami...so she booked me into a hotel, gave me the address to the US consulate and instructions on how to get an emergency passport...she said that it would be no problem as "this happens all the time"and went ahead and booked me on the next day's flight...so i was able to spend the next day getting the new passport and getting back to the airport to fly out that night, but i lost a day in copenhagen with my family...it seems to me that when flights are booked and passport info, including expiration date, are given, a simple cross check of dates would be easy, and, imho, incumbent upon the carrier taking you there, especially when "it happens all the time"...this was not done on 4 occasions between booking and my trip...there were other issues too which is why i will never fly air canada again and i will never travel though toronto...the return trip through that airport was a nightmare for many passengers."

The transition from one staff member to another was amazing. I would fly Air Canada anytime I could."

Cons: "I would not take Air Canada from YWG to the States ever again. It's not the right airline for that trip. AC doesn't offer any direct flights, as far as I can tell, between the small-market Prairie province and the US, and I had to go through security with my checked luggage twice (Canadian & American) each way. These factors leave open infinite possibilities for missing connections and enduring unexpected and grieviously long travel days. To go to Miami, for example, is a trip that took my Minneapolis sister $200 RT + a total of 6 travel hours. For me, from Winnipeg, it took $700 and (unexpectedly) 2 full days, into the wee hours, of flying (I missed a connection because my first flight was delayed, putatively because they switched the gate and wanted to wait for confused passengers, but also something, the pilot said, about maintenance and documents). AC's not especially affordable, even though oil prices are low--I expect because the Canadian dollar is so low. And finally, AC does not compensate for its uncompetitiveness by being any more accommodating of middle class holiday consumers than any other airline business model today. If they treated consumers with the humanity they used to 15 years ago, there might be some reason to endure the costs. As is, there's just no reason to take Air Canada to the US ever."
