I was denied a boarding pass and was not allowed to transit through China, because of a visa that was needed I was not told about by Kayak.com. Therefore, being the last day I was allowed to stay in Thailand, I had to scramble to find an outbound flight the same day, including paying almost double the cost of the original flight. The Thai check-in agent told me to never transit through mainland China again, because the visa requirement information that is not provided.

Window seat on a 14 hour flight has its pros and cons. Little more room vs having to wake people up to get up and walk or go to bathroom.

The staff was extremely polite, very accommodating, and willing to serve. The entire experience was overall very good and very contrary to what reviews said online. I would fly with them again in a heartbeat, far exceeded American standard airlines like Delta and American.

They tried to screw me over with my reservation from the beginning. No notifications of any changes to my flight or anything. Missed my initial flight going home. Paid another airline to catch my transfer flight and was denied the ability to board. Had to pay for a brand new ticket which I am currently going to dispute with my creditor. They are not American friendly at all. Felt targeted the entire time.

The bathrooms were clean

First, our flight to Bali was canceled, there was a scam delaying and delaying the flight so that no one was offered vouchers. But the gate told us it was definitely canceled even though it was never officially canceled. We flew to Manila instead. They botched our return ticked accidentally booking us home on a flight 3 days later. We were on hold 45 minutes but no one answered when we tried to call so we had to wait at the airport to talk to someone - of course their convenient hours are 2AM - 10AM. When we finally did get a flight, the food was awful, the "vegetarian option" was inedible. The thimble of wine was mean considering there is no alcohol in flight. The snack was a tiny package containing 8 tasteless peanuts. We were reprimanded for getting more water. TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised w my experience China Eastern. I was expecting omg the worst. Very opposite to that. The flight was on time, boarding was orderly and flight attendants friendly. I will not hesitate to fly this service again.

The flight was supposed to leave at 8:30pm. We were delayed until 11, then 11:50. At 11:50 we were still not boarding and an argument started about compensation. We were finally boarded at 12:30am. But on the plane we were not given information and continued to sit there for an hour and a half while the plane was further delayed. We finally left around 2:30am, six hours after we were supposed to leave. I missed my ride at Beijing and my first night at the hotel.

Flight over Himalayas was breath-taking!

Flew from Chengdu to Kathmandu, through Lhasa. Even though it was the same flight, we had to de-plane in Lhasa and go through security both coming off the plane and twice again before re-boarding the same plane, to the same seats. Probably a China / Tibet thing, but we received no explanation from Sichuan. After this uber-security play, we got back on the same plane and sat for almost 2 hours on the tarmac, even though we were the only plane in the airport! Sichuan served us lunch while still on the ground, but I would have preferred an explanation from the crew for the unreasonable delay.

I dint know i needed a chinese visa to travel to shanhai, My flight began on denver then seattle and from seattle i wasnt able to fly to china. I received no help at all, all they did was cancel my booking not received any kind of refund and i got stuck in seattle, i had to buy new tickets to go back to denver after losing my flights and not getting a dime back, this is unacceptable!

The airline did its job in getting me there alive and on time.

Not comfortable. Cant use phones at all. Crew wasn't very hospitable. Entertainment system wasn't fully functional. They make you close the shades no matter what time it is which takes away the perks of having a window seat.

But the gate told us it was definitely canceled even though it was never officially canceled. We flew to Manila instead. When we finally did get a flight, the food was awful, the "vegetarian option" was inedible. The thimble of wine was mean considering there is no alcohol in flight. The snack was a tiny package containing 8 tasteless peanuts. We were reprimanded for getting more water. TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meals were decent, Staff was VERY attentive, courteous and polite. Ride was very smooth. Didn't hear much from the pilots, which is ok!

The no-phone, no-internet rule is absurd. I could have really used some internet-for-purchase on a 13 hour flight. Some movies were only in Chinese with no subtitles and the games seemed to require a separate controller with X/Y buttons. Overall blah score entertainment. Announcements were too frequent an intrusive, especially when they're repeating the same thing 2 minutes apart. Also, the weird rules--shades must be up during takeoff, but must be down while we were in the air. Seat must be up during meal time. Learn to chill a little China Air.

The last leg of my return flight was nice and that feed was good

I had asked about a special meal and was told I could only order it at the check in booth at the airport. I had decided not to. Apparently it was set up anyway and I was served an awful dinner. The instant coffee and food on the first leg of my return flight was beyond human consumption

The flight was delayed due to air traffic control. Subsequently I missed my connecting flight -- Xiamen to Manila that evening and had to spend another night in China. Next flight out of Xiamen was 6pm, Nov 2. Xiamen ground staff was very helpful in booking me the option to fly China Southern to Guangzhou the night of Nov 1, stay for free in a hotel, and then take the 0835 morning China Southern flight from Guangzhou to Manila. It was difficult to identify the right people to speak with and get clear assistance and direction in both Xiamen and Guangzhou.

I was forced to buy a new ticket home, which made me discover how wonderful Japan Airlines is...

How are these people still in business? The only people answering customer service hotlines were from the main HQ who only spoke Chinese and would immediately transfer callers to a line for “forgeiners” which would just ring awhile and then disconnect. Same thing happened for at least 10 different people stranded by cancelled flights, even had people trying to call for me from the US. A travel agency was able to switch my friends flights, only to be blocked at his gate by an uninformed Xiamen agent saying he needed a visa for his layover in China, ultimately forcing him to buy a whole new ticket. Xiamen never answered, reimbursed, or recitified any of this. On the flight there, flight attendants had attitudes and SMOKED IN AIRPLANE, it STANK like an ashtray!!! And the food was the worst I ever encountered.

Flight was three hours late and The luggage count be shipped to lax directly. I had to get my luggage, drag luggage to hotel, and check in again in Hangzhou. They even collected headphones and stoped videos on board half an hour before its landing.

When I arrived to the airport I was informed that my flight is cancelled. They found me a new flight instead, 40 minutes earlier than the original one. Which was fine. Meals were decent, Staff was VERY attentive, courteous and polite. Ride was very smooth. Didn't hear much from the pilots, which is ok!

The no-phone, no-internet rule is absurd. I could have really used some internet-for-purchase on a 13 hour flight. Some movies were only in Chinese with no subtitles and the games seemed to require a separate controller with X/Y buttons. Overall blah score entertainment. Announcements were too frequent an intrusive, especially when they're repeating the same thing 2 minutes apart. Also, the weird rules--shades must be up during takeoff, but must be down while we were in the air. Seat must be up during meal time. Learn to chill a little China Air.

On 11/29, the flight from Beijing to San Francisco was delayed because the incoming plane was late. All passengers were greeted at SFO with instructions for compensation. The instructions read "To claim the currency compensation, passengers must have a debit card issued in mainland China and marked with Union Pay!" If you are not a Chinese resident, you are out of luck!!! Americans be warned: Fly Air China and be treated a second class passengers!

They tried to screw me over with my reservation from the beginning. No notifications of any changes to my flight or anything. Missed my initial flight going home. Paid another airline to catch my transfer flight and was denied the ability to board. Had to pay for a brand new ticket which I am currently going to dispute with my creditor. They are not American friendly at all. Felt targeted the entire time.
