Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Cons: "12 hour delay to Toronto!!!"
Cons: "Better information upfront about immigration in Canada and not a million unnecessary information. Highly unprofessional. Had lot better experience with other websites"
Pros: "Flight was fine"
Cons: "So many delays which missed our connection. Very costly. It’s the next day and I’m still not to Montreal!"
Cons: "Was delayed by 1.5 hrs and only received 1 alert about the initial 30 mins delay."
Cons: "I paid $48 for a carry on bag at the airport, I was never informed about this fee at any point during my purchase of the flight. This is half of what I paid for the ticket originally, completely unacceptable. I will never buy again on Kayak's website if I get sneaky, last minute fees like this."
Pros: "Smooth flying. welcoming crew."
Cons: "The agent spents too much time attempting to rearrange the line up rather than help guests check-in, causing a backlog. When issues were brought to them, they seemed disinterested in solving the problem - water was spilled in line and when brought to the agents attention she seemed annoyed."
Pros: "Fly was good."
Cons: "My luggage was broken and I had to search for an agent and had them called overhead by the information to declare it. Inconvenient +++"
Cons: "Stay in the airplane for a long time after landing!"
Pros: "It is a great experience. No delays, Complementary offers . Easiest checking out from the plane and the airport I’ve ever seen in my life"
Cons: "Carry on luggage place in the plane was too small. But they took and I easily got it back from the carrousel free of charge"
Cons: "My flight on 8/18 was canceled last minute without any explanation. There was no customer support what so ever. I couldn't book any flight for the same day or the day after. They automatically booked me for 8/20, two days after my scheduled trip. It didn't work for my schedule. I had to canceled it and they offered credit for future trips instead of refund. can't get anyone to answer the phone and there is no way to get questions answered online."
Cons: "Delays terrible longing rude flight attendants rude gate attendants"
Pros: "Good leg space, complimentary snacks soft drinks wine and beer."
Cons: "Service. Probably the only airline in North America to provide free alcohol on enconomy class."
Cons: "Free wine"
Cons: "Flight was delayed for 3 hours and we only received an $8 food voucher. On my flight back to my original destination, the flight was overbooked and some has to volunteer to wait 9 hours for the next available"
Cons: "Flight was late leaving, arrived in time to make a connecting flight, and sat on the runway for 30 minutes because all gates were full. Literally pushed the connecting flight out to depart so the plane I was on could disembark. Completely rude, booked me for the next day and left me in downtown Toronto at 10 pm with no place to stay. Cost 398 dollars at the cheapest nearby hotel, very nice hotel, but wtf? Customer service wouldn't even help to tell me how to get back out of the departure area."
Cons: "Delays! Delays!"
Pros: "Porter Airlines did a great job overall."
Pros: "Porter fundamentally remade flying into downtown Toronto. Reasonably priced, with free drinks and above average snacks, their planes have no entertainment systems. Given that their flights are all relatively short, that last point is no problem."
Cons: "Boarding was slightly rush to your seats at IAD. Headphone removal seems unneeded."
Pros: "I flew many airlines in my life and Porter is one if the most human and attentive airline I experienced. Hopefully, will not grow to a greedy and bureaucratic corporations :)"
Cons: "Best crew flight attendant I have had in years on any airline"
Pros: "Nice clean aircraft. Flight attendants were helpful and not rude. They tried to help."
Cons: "My flight got cancelled with no explanation. No one called, the only reason I found out is because my phone has an app to monitor my flight. I was automatically rescheduled, also without anyone contacting me if this was okay and also without explanation. A few hours later that flight got cancelled as well. Again, no explanation. Again, no one contacted me. Again, the only reason I found out was because my phone told me. Again, I got rescheduled without anyone contacting me if this flight is in any way okay, or acceptable for me. This time around it wasn't. I tried contacting the airline, where no one ever picked up. I waited more than an hour on hold. Eventually I solved my own problem on the site, when someone rescheduled an earlier flight and I took the spot. Lucky me. As it turned out, I frequent the Toronto Islands area and someone there told me why my flights were cancelled: a dense fog. A pretty good reason. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, of course, there is a weather station right next to the airport and forecasts are readily available. Porter Airlines is unreachable, unreliable and disorganized: they had plenty of opportunities to assess and address the situation, contact me, and even plan for an alternative transportation for me. None of this happened."
Cons: "On the first leg Flight 720: 1. A Black man sitting behind me was challenged (and humiliated) by a Porter agent who came on the plane before leaving the gate, that he was sitting in the wrong seat. It turns out the agent was looking at his boarding pass for the NEXT next connection flight. That delayed the take off by 10 minutes. 2. Then while taxing away from the gate for takeoff, another Black man on the same flight whose mother tongue is not English nor French, did not understand that he had to remove his earbuds for the takeoff. He said he was confused by the instructions, so the the pilot decided he was "non-compliant" and returned the plane to the gate to have him removed from the flight, bring police on the plane. I am sure he lost a lot of money and will have future difficulty flying in North America. That delayed our flight another 40 minutes, and many of us missed our connecting flights in Toronto. I just have two wonder if a white passenger would have been given the benefit of the doubt."
Pros: "Porter Airline was amazing!! They use glasses instead of plastic cups! Nice, cheap, on time, and free wine!"
Pros: "Fast check in and customs lines in both airports"
Cons: "The chips are pretty bland. I appreciate the free refreshments, but would like a bit of choice"
Pros: "Kind flight attendants, everything went very smoothly"
Cons: "The toilet could be cleaner. The seats were also a bit dirty. I think the plane hadn’t been cleaned well at Dulles. Which is a shame because the flight, its timing and the service offered were all excellent."
Pros: "Unable to fly to Toronto. For anyone that does not have a Canadian passport, an electronic Travel Authorization needs to be completed when flying to Canada. As I was not aware of this form that needed to be completed prior to my travel I was not able to take the plane."
Cons: "I wished I had that information ahead."
Cons: "Massive delays!!"
Pros: "I worried about flying in a turbo prop plane but the flight was supriseingly pleasent. Seats were comfortable."
Cons: "I didn't like having to pay extra to pick my seat assignment but I understand that was only for the lower priced leg as there was no ectra fee for the "flexable" return leg."
Cons: "Small airport no amenities."
Pros: "The complimentary self-serve drinks in the boarding area which included sodas, water, espresso, coffee and many other coffee products."
Cons: "Absolutely nothing, great price and service!"
Pros: "On the whole the experience was good ."
Cons: "Took Too long at the check in counter."
Pros: "All of their flights are late, so you won't miss a connecting flight."
Cons: "All of their flights are late. No running water on one of my flights."
Pros: "The snacks and quick boarding was good. Flight attendants were okay."
Cons: "No kiosks to check in. You have to check in at the counter, but if you check in early online you still have to check in at the gate. They have all these policies about carry on bags, but their plans are too small to even carry them on. All rolling bags still have to go under the plane. My seat was dirty and worn out."
Pros: "Loved everything"
Pros: "Not tons."
Cons: "Very late."
Cons: "Porter was very poor at managing our expectations and ultimately providing a quality service. Our flight was deleted several times before it was finally cancelled and we had to take a much much later flight. 3:50pm ended up 9:40pm, taking into consideration the need to be at the airport 2 hours before our flight because it was trans-border. He reason was also absolutely unacceptable - weather. Really? Where? It was great in Dulles Airport Washington DC and fine at Billy Bishop Airpot in Toronto. No offer of anything. No we weren't expecting something. But an offer would have been awesome. Not our first Rodeo."
Pros: "That it was an hour flight and was late for more than hour."
Pros: "Flights delayed and no proper update provided."
Pros: "Great service!"
Pros: "On time departure, early arrival, no surprises."
Pros: "Nice flight attendants. Snacks on the plane"
Cons: "Flight delayed. Plane small and a little cramped. Overhead bin small, not enough space to place carry-on. Plane did not feel clean. Inside interior seemed old."
Pros: "Both the flights Landing Takeoffs were soo perfect, did not feel it took off and landing at the short runways were soo perfect. The crew meaning the air hostesses were soo hospitable with their great smiles on their faces to greet us, help us (especially me)being a handicapped.while serving don't know how to write how they took care, especially getting me to the wheel chair and the staff who took me in wheel chair to the next flight sevices were all 5 star and plus. I would for sure ravel with PORTOR AIRLINES if they go to the destinations I am going. Oh forgot the hospitality at the Toronto Airport was un believeable. Thanks to everyone even the owners of Portor Airlines."
Pros: "Free wine and free drinks. Cheap price I guess. Bed connecting flight ruined it for me though."
Cons: "The flight to Toronto was grounded for 1 hour but the seats were comfortable so I didn't mind. However the connecting flight to Montreal was cancelled and I had to stay the night in Toronto. No refunds. No money for hotel. Only a new booking pass was issued for the morning."
Cons: "First checked bag too expensive at $37"
Pros: "The crew were very good"
Cons: "The Duty Free not much choice of alcohols"
Pros: "Seat comfort, flight attendance hospitality, service at counter and lounge service at Toronto"
Cons: "I missed my flight that day i was not happy at all"
Cons: "Plane was many hours late. Departure time not on terminal screen. Extreeeme delay on shuttle from United terminal. Sidewalk closed for construction. TSA Prechk not on boarding pass printout. No shuttle behind security from Term B to Term A. Plane left earlier than announced on notification apps. DCA website=6:25pm Final call at 5:47pm only word DELAY on term screen with 4:10time."
Pros: "On time; efficient; great aircraft."
Cons: "A child threw up in flight behind my wife and the crew let the parents clean it up. I thought the crew should have been more proactive."
Pros: "everything went by fast, a lot of turbulence but the pilot kept us in check the entire time."
Pros: "That we survived and finally got our luggage the day after we arrived."
Cons: "1) That we went to Toronto, but our luggage went to Montreal. 2) That my wife had to stay up the whole night calling everyone in their call center to find out what happened to our luggage. 3) We were charged for selecting our seats in the flight reservation process. 4) We were misdirected by an Air Canada rep for our return flight and this caused us to miss our connecting flight as well. 5) We ended up spending more than 12 hours at the airport for flying from Toronto to Washington DC."
Pros: "The seating was good and the pilot was friendly."
Cons: "There was not a good movie selection and there was not a lot of information regarding the altitude and there was not very much warning during turbulence."
Cons: "crew was rude and unhelpful with delayed flight"
Cons: "My direct flight was cancelled and rebooked with a connecting flight."
Cons: "The aircraft was so small there was not enough room for even most standard size carry-ons. The crew were not patient and gave passengers attitude for trying to bring their carry-ons onboard. On the way back from Toronto, we were sitting on the runway for more than one hour waiting for "de-icing". If this is a recurring thing, why not time the arrivals and departures better to avoid making people sit there, disconnected from everything and waiting? Also the screen on my "entertainment center" was broken but thankfully I had my own book to read. Air Canada has not had the most welcoming crew or most up to date fleet in my experience; I fly with them mostly because of their cheap fares. I guess "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch"."
Pros: "I usually have a smooth experience with Air Canada. Haven't had any problems on board. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with my baggage."
Cons: "The check-in person said my baggage (oversized, and a keyboard) would make it through to my final destination even though I had another flight on a separate reservation. I specifically asked because I wanted to know if I needed to pick it up when I landed after the first leg in Toronto. He said I'd only have to go through customs and my bag will make it all the way home to Vancouver. Well, I felt weird about it and when I got off in Toronto I noticed that my baggage receipt said Toronto on it (not Vancouver). I decided to forego the connections gate because I was unsure. Lucky that I did because lo and behold, my keyboard bag was waiting for me at baggage claim. Had I trusted the check-in guy, I would've possibly lost over $1000 worth of equipment. That's not something that can easily be forgiven."
Pros: "Crew very friendly. In-flight refreshments & Entertainment provided."
Cons: "Cramp seats."
Cons: "One hour late"
Cons: "Flight was delayed"
Pros: "Everything was fine"
Cons: "The flight was late."
Pros: "the crew are super friendly. even on a little plane from DC-Toronto they had entertainment options which i wouldn't have expected. boarded quickly and landed on time. nobody bats an eye at my wife's weird beverage requests."
Cons: "the cabin of the plane on the return flight didn't have any air conditioning running during boarding and it was uncomfortably hot because it was about 85F outside. the crew only bothered to inform us of the issue when a poor hungover guy behind me asked about it because he was suffering... as were we all. plane didn't get comfortable until over 30 minutes in, at which point we were beginning our descent anyway."
Pros: "Ludovic was fantastic!"
Cons: "charged me for my bags; employees were surly."
Cons: "The plane was sitting at the gate for about an hour before we boarded (for a flight delayed by over an hour). Yet Air Canada didn't bother to go through the cabin and pick up garbage left in seat back pockets. The water in the washroom didn't work."
Pros: "Crew on the flight were very patient, understanding and friendly. Ground staff were the exact opposite. Agitated, temperamental and unwilling to help or find solutions."
Cons: "The flight was delayed. Not necessarily the crews fault. But frustrating as our flight both to and from Washington was delayed both ways."
Cons: "Terrible flight. I should have driven instead. Flight was suppose to land at 12:30pm but due to computer malfunction we landed at 7pm."
Pros: "It was a good experience flying on Air Canada. The flight was on schedule, smooth flight, flight attendants were friendly."
Pros: "All was well. Thanks"
Pros: "Love these guys. Moved a whiny baby away to a another row ;)"
Pros: "We got to destinations safely"
Cons: "I was worried that we won't make it to the land. I guess it was windy, but the plane was shaking too much"
Cons: "Not aconfortable plane"
Pros: "I loved the whole experience. The food was decent and the flight attendants were great and accommodated me with all my necessities. I also enjoyed the entertainment that was accessible on our personal screens and the entire flight was smooth."
Pros: "Nice and relaxing."
Pros: "Boarding process was good"
Cons: "No free snacks offered"
Pros: "The ONLY part of flying Air Canada that I used to like was your partnership with SAS, over the past ten years I have lost more airtravel points through Star Alliance troubles than I could have made in the decade before. Luckily when I fly from my birth place of St. John's NL, you're ground staff are the absolute best! I can give "shout outs" to each and every one of them. From those ready for retirement to the new staff just in from "who knows where", they get the whole "customer service" priority that your airline needs to focus on. Your management in Halifax "Sharon" is out of this world too, other than that whether through Lufthansa, Air Canada or anywhere I would travel, seeing that red leaf on your wing would make me ashamed to be Canadian."
Cons: "I paid extra for a seat to ensure leg room, all I got was ear ache! The flight - although half empty had no place for my briefcase, but I was "ordered" to push my sealskin bag under the dirty greasy seat in front of me. When I requested they store it upfront for take-off & landing - the french female steward started flirting with the man sitting next to me and didn't even offer a response. When drinks came around - I was handed a half empty glass with juice on it's exterior and borrowed a napkin from the next seat. Later I did get a napkin "thrown gently" over the person she enjoyed speaking with. I was happy to wait until connecting passengers disembarked before the local traffic, but was appalled when the more senior female steward stopped a local passenger who I know has anxiety about flying - to insist she let the other passengers off first. Air Canada needs to be educated on what human behaviour entails, before they can graduate to customer service. Together with my first name, you can know my last name is Floyd"
Pros: "Seats are comfortable and I had plenty of leg room."
Cons: "No snacks offered with drink. Boarding wasn't well organized. Toronto airport is horrible... long lines at customs and security caused me to miss my connection for the second time in a row."
Pros: "Air canada needs a serious serious overhaul of the way they treat their customers especially those working at the Toronto airport I find their employees have an "entitlement" mentality that other carriers do not Customer service seems to be a priority not talking to your coworkers about the weekend while serving your customers"
Cons: "There was one employee who suggested to take an earlier flight and was very helpful Little things go along way"
Pros: "nothing particularly spectacular. The entertainment on the place is much better than most (since most don't have it) for such short flights."
Cons: "The place was delayed for over an hour for a 'maintenance issue' - what I dislike is lack of information being shared from the plane to people at the gate. Also when we are delayed for the airlines fault - customers should be given something - anything - a small voucher, or even a drink ect., this is not a weather issue. I think airlines have too much power making most terrible at customer service - air Canada is one of the worst ones."
Pros: "Excellent service on board, and excellent neighbor passengers"
Cons: "Being unable to check in on line and being assigned a middle seat."
Cons: "Staff was rude. And I was seated next to an alchoholic"
Cons: "Absolutely nothing! Terrible service."
Cons: "Flight attendants weren't as friendly or willing to accomodate"
Pros: "We got in a little early. More room than many in regular economy. All employees encountered pleasant and competent."
Cons: "Nothing comes to mind other than the normal air travel has led of security."
Pros: "Lots of leg room. Friendly and helpful staff. Smooth flight and comfortable seats."
Cons: "We didn't like all the walking to get to and from the plane in Terminal 2, Heathrow. Anywhere else in the world would transport people by bus if it was going to be a twenty minute walk to the departure gate."
Cons: "Worst flight ever. Had a technical difficulties 3 times in a row. Had to be cancelled and put on the next day and again same thing over and over. So missed all my connections. Cut short my vacation. Will never flight air Canada again."
Pros: "Great service"
Cons: "Not giving us an update on why the flight was delayed"
Pros: "Super polite crew"
Pros: "Food and service."
Pros: "As thecflt time was short, i cannot say much but the leg room was ok."
Pros: "Everything went well including the smoothness of the flight."
Pros: "The flight was canceled very close to departure time and I was bumped to a flight leaving five hours later. Missed my train connection in Montreal and had to rent a car and drive to Quebec. Since I go to Canada only rarely, I ended up essentially losing the money I spent for train fare and having to pay another $145 for the rental car. Got to Quebec at 11:30 p.m. instead of 3:55 p.m. Not happy."
Pros: "1) Skycap service for boarding at Reagan National was exceptional. I requested wheelchair assistance for this return flight and the attendant gave 100% service, getting me through security and on to the boarding gate lounge area in short order. He was very pleasant and very helpful. 2) The pilots did a good job of flying, The flight was smooth as was the landing. We left Reagan a few minutes late but arrived at Pearson 16 minutes early. I liked that!"
Cons: "1) I paid extra money for a "preferred seat" because my recent hip replacement surgery required that I have ample leg room while sitting. Leg room for the first row econonomy seat I got was barely adequate. I felt cheated out of the $15 I paid for the seat (which should have been complimentary, in my opinion 2) Food service was terrible. For a 1 o'clock flight, having to get to the airport 2-3 hours ahead of departure, meant that I was in need of some serious food, not the tiny package of pretzels and the cup of tea I got. Even a couple of cookies or a muffin would have been a better offering. 3) The wheelchair assistance that I requested did not materialize for me on arrival at Pearson. I felt so cramped from sitting that I was eager to get up and try to walk, no matter how slowly, the distance to Customs and through to the exit gate to wait for my ride home. That's what I did, and I never saw a wheelchair attendant coming with a wheelchair as I exited. That is poor service! I am comparing this to the excellent service I got with American Airlines on the first leg of my trip from Toronto to DC."
Pros: "Easy enough getting there and timely"
Cons: "The next flight and my 5 hour delay"
Cons: "Ac canceled at last minute. Claimed we got txt and email which we did not. Only an offer to upgrade. Connecting Asian flight went without us at very substantial expense which ac denies is there resp because it was weather. Terrible desk attitude, long lines no communication to permit alternative planning."
