Cons: "Flight was delayed by 10 hours less with less than 24 hours notice. Had to call Asiana to change flight to a 1 stop flight (original flight was nonstop). Flight to Seoul from New York was also delayed by 8 hours and I ended up having to spend ~$70 for hotel/taxi due to arriving in Seoul past midnight. Horrible experience both there and back and don't think I would ever take Asiana again."

The food was terrible, and the seats were not made for long flights. I really felt the "economy" vibe. They only provide disposable slippers, but everything else you need to check the lavatories if there were toothbrushes or mouthwash packets left. Overall, I will still consider flying this airline for any emergency flight back to the US, but if there will be a compeittive airline, maybe i'd try another. Their business class seem enticing.. maybe comsoder it too."

Pros: "Everyone was so personable. We had 4 adults , 2 boys and a baby girl so it was hard to get everyone situated but with the staff on the plane it was just simplicity. All of our needs were met , wether it was someone wanting an extra blanket or the baby needing food or even helping the 2 boys get situated before and after take off . They apparently love babies because they couldn't get enough of ours and were always wanting to play with her and make her smile (which goes along way) and that helped her not feel so groggy on the plane . They know it's a long flight so they get you comfortable even down to giving you slippers and great tasting food."

The bathrooms were crowded and chaotic after meals with no attempt on the flight crew to organize or redistribute the crowds (unsafe situation could occur). I waited 15 minutes at one point because there was simply no order. Some flight attendants were better than others but overall, they played favorites with certain groups."

It is stated in their menu that snacks like cup of noodle is available through out the flight but only when you stand up and get it from them. Very poor service. I will never fly Cathay Pacific again. That will be the first and the last."

They let the passengers with seats at the end go in the aircraft first so that these passengers will never blocking the hallway or making any long line.Hope the flight to New York can improve in this aspect."

Cons: "I am not a frequent flier on Cathay. I would say I would think twice before buying my next ticket. Their call centers and counter staff leave a huge amount to be desired. I called their help desk when I couldn't access my reservation. My problem is their systems push your first and middle names together as a first name in their systems so I couldn't access my reservation. I really, really struggled understanding the person on their help desk. Then 48 hours before my flight I tried to book my seats and get my boarding pass. There were no seats for a party of 3 traveling together and only middle seats for the 3 of us. I waited for 20 minutes calling their support center. Of course their team could not help. All seats were booked. Luckily she offered to book my seats for the return and we managed to get the last 3 together in the back of the plane. If you book through Kayak recommend immediately calling to book seat numbers. I have ran out of room but returning from Vancouver their systems didn't read American passports and everyone tried to get tickets issued the staff at the desk laughed when told and said they knew it was a problem....but it did keep the many skiers busy in the self service line:) Also the desk opens 2hours and 59 minutes before departure so don't arrive early"

Cons: "Missed connecting flight from Hong Kong to JFK. I was given another flight but had to wait seven hours. Meal vouchers did not cover enough for how long I waited. New flight was not direct like the original one so there was a layover in Vancouver. I was supposed to get back to New York on February 2nd at night, but arrived around 6:00am on the 3rd. This was a major inconvenience since I had school 3 hours after I arrived and then work. I would suggest to not have arriving flights and connecting departing flights less than hour and thirty minutes to two hours apart. Only for delay issues."

Although the food menu states that noodles and snacks were available upon request, we were turned down several times when we requested. Food served, especially main entree, were barely edible. It was probably the worst airline food I've ever had, and I travel very frequently. When we arrived back at JFK from our trip, it took over 2 hours for our luggage to arrive at baggage claim."

The flight attendants were also really conscientious but also discrete about making sure that things were comfortable to passengers, for example making sure that windows were closed most of the time and lights were down so that people could sleep in between meals, and moving someone that was sick to a more comfortable and private seat, both for the sake of the sick individual and for the comfort of the people that had initially been sitting around them. -The complementary movie options were great and really helped pass the time on the 24+hr flight from NYC to Western Australia. -1 free large checked bag, which was very nice. -I think the complementary food and snacks were really yummy and generous, for airline food. I very much enjoyed the meals and snacks. Also, the complementary wine was a nice treat and tasted surprisingly good. -The complementary pillows and blankets were nice, warm, and soft. -The flights were on time, much better than American airlines that I've flown on. -The bathrooms were cleaned regularly throughout the flight and were much cleaner and nicer smelling than other airlines that I've been on."
Cons: "The only thing thing that could really be improved upon (which is not as much the airline's fault as the plane manufacturer's fault) is that the economy seats and cabin layout could be more comfortable for long flights. I understand how hard it must be to design a plane that fits that many people and that's comfortable for 24+hrs of flying, but a few improvements could relatively easily be made I think, which would improve the experience dramatically: -If the seats were softer (and perhaps more ergonomically designed with an average person's shape in mind) it would make a world of difference, I think. -Being able to put the arm up on the wall side of the window seat would make it much more comfortable. -Padding on the arms would also help. -Of course more leg space and wider seats would make a world of difference, but I know that is tough to do since space is limited."

Almonds instead of peanuts, a menu option with a main of a nice piece of steak (that could be cut with an airline knife!), amenity kit... Very happy passenger."

I was probably the only Black guy in there. I wonder how they found me that seat. It was a Nonstop flight, I will fly China Southern every chance I get because I just want to get from point A to point B. But, I'll be asking more questions about my seat assignment before accepting it."

Cons: "We flew from NYC- JFK to Siem Reap Cambodia and back with the airline. On the way back I was unable to choose seats online prior to boarding. We were placed in Row 63, which is the LAST row on the plane and does not recline. For a 15 hour flight this seating should not be used. It is completely unreasonable to think people will be ok not reclining, and honestly the seats felt more straight up than the normal seats. After discussing it with the crew for half an hour on a full flight they were able to move us to other seats. But were unable to move us to business or first for a discount. End point: these seats should not be used! It was so miserable even thinking we might get stuck with them. And if they do stick people there you should be comped, that was not worth the same fare everyone else payed for coach."

The flight was supposed to depart at 9:15 in the evening, at midnight the status on the boards at midnight was still "check in" and the team at the desk were not cooperative at all. Tgank you."
Pros: "I had a long layover in China, was coming from Nepal and the airline provided me with a great hotel room, transportation back and forth to the airport, even a museum pass and city tour. Wow, that's a first!"

Cons: "Although our plane was at a gate and had the connector ramp attached, we were still required to "cram" into a bus for a 10 minute ride to the plane and entered by lots of stairs. You are not permitted use of phones even while in airplane mode with no explanation given. When we asked for water to be able to take necessary medications during the flight, we were told we had to wait a couple hours until the next beverage service but were offered tomato juice and another beverage. You are asked to prepare for landing 45 minutes prior to landing. I have never had to prepare for landing so early in a flight. Not necessarily a flight issue, but Guangzhou airport has a poor system for locating your connecting flights. There were 2 potential terminals and you had to walk to the beginning of either terminal to locate a flight information board. Then had to walk back to the other terminal if that was where your flight was located. Frustrating."

Consequently, there were several open seats in business and economy comfort class that were vacant on a 14 hour flight. This is bad practice and a missed opportunity to delight customers without any additional expense."

Cons: "Everything apart from the flight was terrible. Customer service is a nightmare to reach. You have to push a button every 30 seconds to indicate you want to remain on hold. I had a long layover and they put us in a dump of a hotel too far from the airport to get back by myself, with no staff able to communicate with any English, no working internet, and not even a map. I had wanted to visit a nearby city and instead had to spend 19 hours in a bad hotel. They also confiscated my external battery from my checked luggage (my fault) but have provided no way for me to get it back unless I'm in China."

I have to go through Customs, then claim my baggages which took a while to come, then recheck the baggages which at that time 7am I was told was already late, but eventually took them when I told them my flight was delayed. After that, I have to go to screening with a long, long, long line of people. I finished at 7:45am, now I have to go to my gate B55, so starting from B18, I was both running and walking fast, asked 2x a staff if there's a faster way, but was told I have to walk through it. I heard overhead paging 3x final calls for my flight. I eventually made it a few minutes before the door closed, but I was really catching my breath when I finally sat on the plane. I hope this won't be experienced by anyone else, as it wasn't a good experience!!!"

Ridiculous that it was "for security reasons," but I could pay more money (cost of an entirely different flight) to bypass the protocols. I ended up getting a ticket from United that cost less than what China Southern was asking me to pay to get onto the flight that I had already paid for... My takeaway from this is use websites like these to find airlines that are offering cheap flights and then just go to them directly to buy the tickets. Easier to deal with flight changes that way."

Pros: "I had just suffered multiple breaks in my arm/shoulder and was returning to the States. I was in considerable pain and flying alone - this was the first flight out I could get. Everyone was AMAZING. From helping to rearrange seats, other passengers, and even upgrade to maximize comfort and minimize more damage to my arm to helping open any food packages so that I could eat with medication and checking in on me frequently, I couldn't have asked for better attention given the situation. I hadn't heard of this airline before but now highly recommend - they were amazing through two flight legs, two different airline crews, and 3 airports. Cannot thank the crew enough for their attention and care during a very difficult time. I am a frequent traveler and this is the best customer experience I've ever had."

Cons: "I had a 13 hour layover in Guangzhou and was told a voucher was offered for a hotel and a meal. I figured with this layover I could possibly see the city while I waited but a damper was put in those plans. It took me 3 hours to figure out how to acquire the voucher due to not having any assistance from the staff or them not speaking English. The airline basically chose the hotel for me because it would have been another hour wait if I decided to change the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel I met another passenger that had been in the city for 2 days back and forth to the airport because her connecting flight was late to Guangzhou and the airline had no space on the other flights. The wifi connection at the airport was poor and I was unable to use the food voucher at the time I arrived as it could only be used for breakfast. Their is no wifi offered on flight and the food was okay."

I was kept at the airport on a layover to another city and they wouldn't let me board because they said my passport number was entered wrong on the reservation. This made no sense as I had gotten off another flight on my way back home. No one at the airport in Shanghai was helpful and it was really frustrating to think that I would be stuck in China. I was finally able to track down a international supervisor who was able to print out my boarding passes and let me board my flight. Unfortunately, another family with small kids were dealing with the same issue as me only their flight was leaving in 30 mins. I hope they were able to make their flight."

They offered a meal that they cooked in-house, but the wait to receive one was absurdly long and seemed rather dicey. This was confusing as they had provided me with a food coupon in Bangkok for the initial delay, so their customer service policy is rather confusing and comes down to how they feel in the moment. They really should have been more accommodating."

Someone was smoking in the bathroom too which added a nice smell to the cabin. 2nd meal was a bit better. My seat was pretty tight. (I am 6’2” 230 lbs) Every time I take China Eastern I think to myself never again, but every now and again I have no option. Customer service is almost non-existent if anything goes wrong. They are the only airline that I have issues with almost every booking."

Pros: "CE has B777 to/from JFK which are up to date and comfortable. The biz class is similar to all others, lie flat and more than enough entertainment. The flight attendants are fantastic, always willing to do what ever they can."
Cons: "Often you must deplane/board from the tarmac on connecting flights in PVG. Of course only an issue during in climate weather or if you have difficulty with steps. They are building another terminal so hopefully in a year or so all flights can board form the terminal."

Cons: "The turbulence. I was very uncomfortable and scared. The plane ride was just too rocky and it just lasted too long. Thought it was going to crash. But it's not the pilot's fault I would travel with China Eastern again."

Cons: "It is my first time to take China Eastern Airline. My son and I had a round trip from New York to Zhengzhou (Connected at Shanghai). I had no problem for outbound trip from New York to Zhengzhou. But for inbound trip from Zhengzhou to New York, we missed the flight due to China Eastern Airline's very bad customer service. At the airport check in, we were told passport ID number did not match the Eastern Airline flight tickets passport ID number. The check in clerk let us to make changes at Eastern Airline counter. The guy from EA just changed my passport id but did not want to change my 7 years old son's ticket id. He was sitting there and did not care about anything. I told him we were going to miss the flight, he gave me a phone number 95530 to let me call EA in Shanghai. I called and EA in Shanghai said I should change at EA counter of the airport. Man, it's a nightmare. The guy updated my ID number on my ticket, but refuse to update my 7 year old son's ID number. So we had to reschedule to next day flight thru the China Eastern Airline USA. They charged $100! We finally got back to New York. They don't care we miss the flights and their customer Service Is VERY BAD"

Pros: "Flight was extremely reasonably priced and the planes were new. The flights were on time and I felt like the take off and landings went quite smoothly."
Cons: "The boarding process was a free for all - complete with pushing and shoving to get to the ticket checker. The food was abysmal and I got sick from it on the way to and from my destination - I would not recommend that ANYONE eat the food. The attendants were rude and did not have a grasp of English - lots of reaching over, using hand gestures instead of words. People were definitely smoking on the flight - at least three of the four flights I took and I'm not sure how the attendants didn't stop the smokers. These were also flights where there was a lot of uncovered coughing, hacking and uncovered sneezes in addition to unrelenting farting. Neighboring passengers did not practice personal space and constantly leaned over on myself and my friend."
Pros: "China Eastern came in several hundred dollars less than the competition for our roundtrip international flights from NYC to Bangkok via Shanghai. Because of this, we were naturally a bit worried. China Eastern did not disappoint. Their check in process and boarding process is a bit lengthy; however, we boarded seamlessly and were able to be as comfortable as possible during our 15 hour flights. 3 meals were served in this time period, and a pillow and blanket and earphones were provided. There was never a long line for the toilets, and there was an ample selection of movies on the entertainment front. Overall, would use China Eastern again for our international travels to Asia."

Cons: "I am a very frequent flyer. This is by far THE WORST company with THE WORST customer service. I'll skip the details of the flight itself. We are getting ready to sue this company in the United States for their outrageous behavior on our way back from Phuket. We bought 3 round trip tickets from New York to Phuket and back with an overlay in Shanghai. On our way back, at 2am, when all offices are closed, the China Eastern team refused to put us on our plane. They notified us that our tickets were canceled without a prior warning (no refund, by the way). They couldn't help us by, let's day, selling us the same tickets again, and they did not offer any other accommodations. The manager refused to share his supervisor's information and concealed his identity by turning over his badge. They only told us to call the hotline number on the reservation. The number did not work. As we didn't have anywhere to go at 2 am, we stood by the registration counter and kept asking how the company was going to help us get back home since we paid a lot of money and did not receive any prior notice or at least a refund. The manager called six security guards and ordered them to get us away from the counter. Because of the China Eastern despicable customer service, we ended up overpaying $3600 for 3 people, missing an important business meeting, and losing wages as a result of a missed day of work."
Pros: "They changed my connecting flight for free! I had originally booked a long layover in Shanghai, and a few days beforehand changed my mind and wanted an earlier connection. They were very accommodating in changing my flight. Was actually shocked at how simple the process was. In addition, all the staff on the flight, a grueling 15-hour trip from Pudong to JFK, were polite and helpful the entire way."
Pros: "i enjoyed the amount of meals and beverages and soft blankets on long flights, offered a great range of games and movies."
Cons: "the aisles were very small even for me and i'm considered petite and i had to shuffle sideways down them. many people and not enough restrooms, decent sized lines of people waiting to use the restrooms seemed a safety hazard."

Pros: "I bought this business class ticket because it was ~$300 cheaper and had a long layover in Shanghai allowing me to visit friends. Boarding process could have been more orderly, but normal chaos for an Asian flight. Seat itself was fine though certainly not the level of comfort you'd find in other airlines that I wouldn't consider to be luxury airlines. Think Delta vs. Emirates. On this spectrum, China Eastern keeps company with Southwest or Spirit except I don't think these airlines have upper cabins. The food was inedible; attendants did not come through with snacks in between and I basically subsisted on a beer diet and what snacks I Had in my carry-on from previous flights. All the movies had the English scrubbed which meant I could watch only if I wanted to watch a silent movie and read English subtitles as if it were the 20s. Cabin and crew were perfectly nice and I don't fault them for the airline's inadequacies."

Cons: "The ticketing staff in Shanghai were very unhelpful in providing any courteous upgrade or voucher for our delayed flight and poor hotel accommodations. They also failed to inform the plane staff of my vegetarian request. The plane staff tried to accommodate by offering their own meals to me, or side dishes from the meat meals."
Pros: "The staff was really helpful and the plane itself was completely comfortable, with lie flat seating in business class. Great menu and entertainment too. And at a much lower price than the american carriers."

Cons: "There was a smell of someone smoking 3 times during the flight. Several times, I would ask for something (for example salt), a crew member would say...I'll bring it right over...and then disappear, not even coming over to say whether they have it or not. The flight was uncomfortable, mainly due to the toddler sitting next to me who was extremely loud and kicking everyone's seats around her. When asked to move, the flight attendant did look if there were seats available but said everyone's free seats next to them had been occupied because people were asleep, stretched out on them. When asked if there were maybe seats in the business class, the attendant wouldn't even hear of it, claiming that that is not area and thus she won't even check. Lastly, the food on China Eastern airlines always leaves me feeling a bit off. Freshness is just not their forte. But what can I say, their flights ARE cheap, so you get what you pay for. All in all, a mediocre experience, at best."
