Reservation requested at OGG booked to a location outside the airport. After waiting 1 1/2 hours in line I was informed of the location error and Avis was unwilling to honor reservation. Location booked had closed and I was forced to Uber to get to my resort. First and last time I will use Kayak or Avis. Very poor experience!Reviewed Feb 26 2026

The rental car was dirty with a used water bottle in the back seat and filled with a colony of live roaches. The roaches were visible and scattered virtually every time we entered the car. They were on the seats, floor, dashboard, our clothes, and empty cups. Then Avis charged us an extra $1800 without our knowledge. When we called to complain, they said it was because we upgraded, but the only reason we had the roach infested jeep was because they had given out our car. Then they said it was because we were late to pickup (our plane was delayed 20 minutes).Reviewed Feb 26 2026

They kept a $2,000 hold on my CREDIT card for a $240 rental. I think that should be made very clear to travelers before they rent a car. That could ruin someone’s vacation.Reviewed Feb 25 2026

Absolutely horrible experience. A classical bait and switch operation. Sleazy to the core. It was " either you will pay four time as much as we advertised and agreed to charge, or we will not rent you a car", specifically targeting customers that didn't buy third party insurance through them. I ended up taking a taxi and renting a car next day from a competitor without any problems. Avis at Sarajevo airport is a disgrace to the Avis name. The man behind the counter had a name tag that said his name was Ermin Kovacevic, in case that Avis wants to do something to clean up the cesspool that is Avis Sarajevo airport office. I chose to rent with Avis exactly because I wanted to avoid situations like this, thinking that a well established company would have high standards and good customer service. They did not have the car we reserved so they gave us a a jeep. It was filled with a colony of live roaches which were openly crawling around the car. When we returned the car Avis charged us an extra $1800 without our knowledge. When we called to complain, Avis said it was because we “upgraded.”Reviewed Feb 24 2026

Avis did not tell me that the rental location would close at 5PM. Even the Avis counter in the airport said they would be open till 6PM. I got there at 5:45. there were Avis personal there but they only handle selling used cars. Sorry! Will not use Avis again.Reviewed Feb 22 2026

The front passenger-side tire fell off while I was driving on the highway. I had to book a hotel for the night, a flight back home, etc., for a total cost over $700, and Avis only offered to reimburse me for the cost of two days of my rental (just over $100).Reviewed Feb 21 2026

Great staff, very kind and easy to work with. Batteries on the fobs do not work. So I had to manually unlock and manually lock every door. Start button only worked if you put the fob onto it. It was impossible to lock the rear door because they told me I cannot lock all doors with the automatic lock or the alarm was set. Cost was insanely high, although we are in Milan so they are able to monopolize the rentals and charge whatever they want. $130 per day. But again that has nothing to do with staff, they were amazing.Reviewed Feb 18 2026
