Pros: Very nice owners. Patricia always answers the needs of the customers. She is always ready to give good advices / tips (restaurants, places to visit, etc.. ) and to spend time with the customers. It was really nice to play backgammon in this beautiful house, with a glass of Spritz, before going out for dinner. Very good breakfast with a lot of home made food.
Cons: Unfortunately, the sun is hidden by thre trees after 16h00 since mid september. That's a pity as there is 2 nices swimming pools ... But even if they can do and are doing a lot, the owners can't change the course of the sun !

Pros: We had an absolutely fantastic experience! The room was superb. Beautifully decorated, and with plenty of amenities such as a coffee maker, and minifridge. Luxurious bathroom and bath. An extremely comfortable experience. The grounds were spectacular, and very well maintained. Two pools, and a beautiful garden with fish ponds. Perfect for a calming stroll. The absolute best part of the experience were the hosts. They went above and beyond to make sure we had the best possible experience. We were welcomed with a drink, and a little explanation of the surrounding area. The next morning, we were served an amazing breakfast with lots of homemade options both sweet and savoury, as well as ample tea and coffee. Then we were given advice about day trips, local sites, little hidden gems to visit like a beautifully crystal clear lake tucked away in the mountains. Finally, restaurant recommendations and reservations were made for our evening meals. This truly is the best hotel/BandB experience we’ve ever had.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Excellent location, very clean and the owners are the most lovely people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The couple has an apuanian sheepdog and a mongrel which are both very friendly. We loved them as we miss our dogs when we are not at home. The accommodation is separate from the main house and even though it is only one street back from the main road, it's very quiet and you get a great night's sleep. The accommodation is recently completed and so everything feels new. The couple, Roberto and Roberta, are lovely and very welcoming. The place has a relaxed and quiet atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it was close to everything we needed to do whilst there. There is space to park outside the property and bus and train services are close by.

Cons: Absolutely nothing

Pros: Roberto and Roberta were wonderful hosts. On the first night we arrived the local restaurant was shut and they very kindly cooked dinner and let us join. Roberto offered to give us lifts to and from the train station and Lucca which was so helpful! Our room was comfortable with a beautiful view of the mountains, we would definitely recommend staying here, it was stunning :)

Pros: The apartment was very clean and tidy. We only stayed for one night, but it was really comfortable. I can definitely recommend you this apartment.
Cons: The only thing that we missed was the lack of any cutlery, knife etc. so we could prepare ourselves a breakfast. Apart from that, everything was ok.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: In the 4 years I’ve been with my partner this place was by far the nicest we’ve stayed at. If you’re looking for a place a little off the beaten track it would be very difficult to beat this. The location is amazing, the facilities and breakfast were excellent, and our hosts couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Roberta is an excellent hostess. The property is finished to a very high standard. The room was beautifully made up with nice linens and decorator touches. Amazing views of Garfagnana valley and mountains. We went for dinner in Coreglia Antelminelli at the small Restaurant L’arcile only 3km down the road and had the amazing meal. We stayed an extra night. Visiting Lucca? This would be a good choice.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: A very recently renovated property with excellent attention to detail means that Roberta and Alvise have created a wonderful base from which to explore the area. They are tremendously welcoming hosts whose warmth and friendliness made us both feel immediately at home and contributed hugely to our stay. Our room was immaculate and extremely comfortable with a great selection of teas. Breakfast was served on the balcony and consisted of a delicious choice of fresh and locally sourced produce. The homemade cakes were very welcome too! Although there are plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from that are a short drive away, we felt that the property was so lovely, we preferred to eat our main meal out during the day and stay at 'home' for the night taking advantage of the barbecue area or terrace (luckily for us, we were the only visitors during our stay). The views are lovely and we enjoyed listening to the songbirds in the evening. This is a great boutique hotel and highly recommended
Cons: For us - nothing. We absolutely loved the remote location. Of course if you're looking for clubbing and an exciting nightlife, then this is probably not for you!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. From the room with all its lovely touches and super comfortable bed, to the delicious breakfast on their sun terrace, to the perfect little pool! So many places to sit, relax and take in the gorgeous mountain views! To have use of a small refrigerator was much appreciated as well. What really made this stay wonderful was the great Hostess and Host! We can not say enough about Roberta and Alvise. They were gracious, super welcoming, funny and made us feel like honored guests.
Cons: Only that we hadn't been able to stay longer!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything: nice quiet location with breathtaking panorama, tastefully decorated rooms, wonderful hosts, the breakfast on the balcony... Thanks Roberta and Alvise for the nice stay we had.

Pros: We love staying here. It is so atmospheric, beautifully clean, lovely host and fantastic value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful apartment on the top floor of an old building. The first two floors serve as an art gallery. The room at the top is perfect - a wonderful view, good wifi and tv, hot water, a kettle and cutlery. Barga is an interesting city and this flat is the ideal place to stay, set in the heart of the old city. Great value.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This house is one of the most beautiful and well-disposed places that I have stayed in. Its large and well-proportioned rooms are covered in wonderful artwork. It is in the centre of Barga, easily accessible on foot, and boasts a large garden. The host, Giordano, is very welcoming and anxious to ensure that his guests have everything they need. If you are thinking of visiting Barga, do not miss out on staying here. There is also a permanent exhibition of Bruno Cordati’s work: even if you don’t manage to find availability to stay here, make sure you visit the exhibition!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A huge room (more of a suite), full of atmosphere. Beutiful view and convenient bed and bathroom. It was like liveing in a museum of old times Barga, both literally as the whole building is a gallery and both the high cielings, wide stairs and being able to wonder around the place including the roof treeaced room. Giordano was very kind and informative. The price was very good for such place
Cons: The room was generally clean but still a bit dusty, and the public spaces (especially the roof) dustier. It is understable that maintaining such place totally not dusty is difficult, but we believe it can be a bit improved. For those who mind it, there is no lift
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very comfy bed. No breakfast provided but coffee (good quality), fridge & limited crockery were provided. My room was a suite with a tiny sitting room, little kitchen and bathroom. The bedroom was VAST with a view of the mountains. It was an old palazzo with an ongoing art exhibitions in many of the rooms. Interesting place.

Pros: Very good breakfast including local honey and fresh bruschetta
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Donatella's country house is located a 15-minute walk from the town of Barga and has incredible views of the valleys and countryside. It's a very romantic, quiet place to stay, and Donatella and Luigi were kind and hospitable. If you're planning to visit the Garfagnana region, this makes an excellent location. Having breakfast in the morning in their adorable kitchen (strong coffee, homemade pastries and honey, juice) was a highlight. You can easily walk or drive to Barga for the day (better to drive at night since the roads are twisting and unlit). We spent an afternoon reading and resting on their property - also highly recommended.
Cons: I can't think of anything.

Pros: Lovely owner, delicious breakfast with home grown honey and bruschetta and coffee. Nice walk to the gorgeous old town of Barga. Easy to get there from Lucca by bus. A lovely break from cities.

Pros: Perfect rural location, peaceful but a very short drive to Barga. Lovely hosts. Separate room for young teenage which worked very well.

Pros: David and Lynne's hospitality was superb- friendly, engaging, he went way above the call of duty when our car rental outfit failed to provide us with a usable car on our first and second day there. The facility was beautifully restored, a clear labor of love, and was immaculate. A collection of English language books were available, as well as DVDs to view. The second floor terrace was a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine, sheltered from the sun by trees. A memorable place to stay!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location
Cons: More food options would have been nice
5.5 Okay
Pros: Excellent scenery over the valley. Own helicopter landing pad.
Cons: The hotel has a lot of small children, running, yelling and screaming. We were not expecting this hotel to be a family hotel but that’s what it is. Pool is full of kids most of the day, some swimming in their diapers. Running and screaming is also going on all the time during breakfast and dinner. There really should be a different area for kids to play and area for adults who have come here to relax, or clearly indicate that what kind of hotel this is on the internet. The hotel don’t have enough staff so you have to get used to waiting, but stuff is doing their best and getting obviously stressed sometimes. My advice is to avoid this hotel, unless you don’t mind kids playing and yelling around you. 5-start rating is a joke. We have seen many 5-start hotels, but this is not one.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. If you are looking for tranquillity in the Tuscan mountains, this will fit perfectly. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It is a bit of a drive up the mountain, with lots of hairpin turns, so I hope you are not suffering from motion sickness, but it is worth it. Located on a ridge line, the hotel offers expansive views of Barga and the valley. Simply gorgeous. The food was lovely. We opted for the a la carte breakfast rather than they buffet and found the serving sizes to be plenty. Dinner in the restaurant was beautiful. Any of the meals we had were lovely. The wine selection is very good.
Cons: My biggest problem was the WiFi connection. Perhaps it was due to my room being in a weird location, I don't know but regardless of which hotspot I connected to when being in my room, it would frequently drop out and struggle to reconnect. When connected, it was slow. The friendly hotel staff tried their best and I have been told by other guests that the connection was perfectly fine and quite fast in their rooms, so maybe I have simply been unlucky with the room (avoid 308!).
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location at the mountains. The hotel is great, super clean with a smart and polite staff. Breakfast is rich, bed comfortable.
Cons: The room size was a bit too small and uncomfortable. The wellness&spa is far away from the expectations: intenal pool is unfit for swimming but due to law temperature also unfit for bathing. Only one small sauna and one steam.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The beds are SUPER comfortable. Spacious Rooms. The hotel is picturesque! Wake up early and sit by the outside pool, nth can beat that scene! They have a great massage facility too. There's a small village nearby you can visit for a quiet romantic dinner.
Cons: The parking is a bit packed, but we were lucky enough to always find space. And the hotel is big enough to accommodate another restaurant. Other than that, it was amazing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The bed was fenomenal. Staff was helpfull. Parkingspace close enough.
Cons: Complicated lift sistem. Noise from other rooms. Should get in written what includes the reservation. I missed open WiFi sistem, without registration.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: the location was superb magnificent views breakfast was adequate

Pros: Exceptional views
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful areas. Wonderful view from balcony if room has one. Attentive personell. Many trails to interesting places by foot and by car. Beware that some sites are close in winter, some higher trails are icy, and roads to peak narrow and twisty.

Pros: The hotel had all the usual facilities for a classy hotel - good bed, big clean bathroom, fantastic breakfast and quality meals and wine, but the staff made all the difference - exceptional!!! From the manager, to the reception staff and all the restaurant personel, (and the chef), the service was fantastic - warm, genuine and friendly. This is one of the best places we have ever stayed.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about this hotel was brilliant. The staff were fantastic, the food was fantastic - I had both breakfast and lunch, the vibe was the most welcoming I’ve ever felt in a hotel, the toiletries in the room smelt amazing and better than the usual rubbish, the spa was great and reasonably priced and the grotto and massages were fantastic - I just can’t fault any of it! The location was perfect for what I was looking for... quiet, out the way, and a nice leisurely stroll down into the village and then felt the thighs burning on the way back up!! Hands down beats the last 4 star and 5 star hotels I’ve been to recently. Will definitely return if I have the chance!
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: The hosts, Walter and Cathy were exceptionally welcoming, present at breakfast and also early evening to answer any questions or queries you may have. They were very knowledgeable of Barga and surrounding area and happy to book restaurants for us. The breakfast was simple but superb. The public area and the bedrooms were extremely well presented with very interesting pieces of art and paintings and all the fixtures and fittings were very high standard.

Pros: Excellent town with great history
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming place next to an excellent restaurant and bar. Rooms were spotless and the breakfast was excellent. It was so helpful to have the owner around as she is an expat American and can help with multiple areas. She told us about a hike to a World War II memorial above the town which we made, we would have never found about this without her. If you are looking for an interesting hike, ask her about it.
Cons: Really, nothing could have been better.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Cathy is extremely nice and helpful. They accommodated a much earlier breakfast then they usually offer (as we had to go to work each day). The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was really good, with fresh fruit, prosciutto crudo etc.
Cons: Just a note (we were aware and didn't mind at all!): the hotel is in the middle of the old part of Barga, there is no parking nearby, you have to walk from the parking areas outside the city center.

The breakfast is nice and you will definitely be full afterwards. The rooms are clean and the beds are good.
Cons: Only thing I can think off is the wifi that works only in specific places, so not in the whole building.

Pros: Nice the idea of a room with a specific matter (I was in the French room); nice the very big bathroom (even if for a so big bathroom there was space enough for a bigger shower).
Cons: Unfortunately there was no TV in the room, it is not a great problem or a lake of a fundamental think but.... Moreover I did not like that I did not receive a receipt from the owners.

Pros: The town is small and undergoing some roadworks. The staff at Eliseo went out of their way to make me feel welcome and show me around the town for best parking. They treated me like a family friend.
Cons: The meals in the restaurant are slightly small portions, but more than made up for it with lovely staff and atmosphere

Pros: Debbie (who is English), Mario and their daughter, Elena, made us very welcome. We had a lovely big room with views of the mountains and immediately felt at home there. Lucca and Pisa are easy day trips and Florence is only a couple of hours away. We would definitely recommend staying at Eliseo and would love to go back one day.

Pros: An excellent hotel and restaurant where everyone was very helpful. Would definitely go back there.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good place for cycling or hiking in Garfagnana region.
Cons: The breakfast could be more varied.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is simple but good. The rooms are very large and spacious. The beds are comfortable. The property is cosy and seems well maintained.
Cons: The pool is very cold, and doesn't seem to be cleaned very often (lots of insects floating around). The wi-fi is very poor (only connects intermittently). The location is not ideal for those on foot. While it is near enough to the station, it is in the opposite direction as town which makes it quite a walk. Compounded with the fact that there aren't many restaurants around the hotel, it can be quite a walk just to go for dinner in the evening. The hotel has a restaurant but on the first night I was there, it was booked out for a wedding, and the second night (Sunday), it was closed. There are some grocery shops within a 10 minute walk but these close at 7:30pm and there are no catering facilities at the hotel.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is a delightful place to stay - peaceful, tranquil, amazing views, a real hidden gem. Too hidden in my view - pity more people don't know about it. It makes for a lovely retreat from a crazy world!! We stayed here as we were selling our house nearby and over to sign the contract etc., so we know the area well. It's off the beaten track, but near enough to Castelnuovo / Barga / Lucca to make a great holiday destination. Plus it's possible to get lunch and evening meals at times (not all the time).
Cons: For us (as with any such b&b etc., tea and coffee making facilities would be a bonus as we are early risers and waiting for breakfast before being able to get tea or coffee is difficult!! It is the norm in our experience though.

Pros: We stayed for 3 nights. As the only guests we were given the option of timings for breakfast. Breakfast was varied and there were plenty of options, presented beautifully. The B&B is set in gorgeous surroundings and the interior is lovely. Clean bathroom and bedroom, with a comfortable bed and nice view from the window. Roy and Shirley are friendly hosts, who look after their guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We have just returned from a fantastic week with Roy & Shirley. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome in their beautiful home and instantly offered drinks and nibbles which after along day of traveling was most welcome. Roy and Shirley are fantastic hosts who went above and beyond and it soon felt as if we were staying with friends, their knowledge and advice was invaluable to us and we can't thank them enough for that. Roy is an amazing chef who always set us up for the day with hearty breakfast and as an optional extra prepared evening meals for us which were always of the highest gourmet quality with deserts prepared by both which were simply to die for. The accommodation is outstanding and has been lovingly restored with cosy en suite rooms that have been tastefully decorated throughout and feature some of Shirley's own creative artwork and mosaics. We have never slept better and loved waking up to the stunning views across the mountains. Roy and Shirley we can't thank you enough and look forward to seeing you again very soon.
