Nice hotel, friendly staff, good food. I stayed with a colleague whose room heating was not working
good friendly staff.good food. nice beers nothing to dislike
Staff are tremendous; food was very good; it's a 'doggy' friendly pub
Beautiful location; pleasant staff in restaurant; fabulous log fire in lounge; delicious food Don't like having to use bathroom water in kettle (though this is pretty standard everywhere we go!)
Room comfort None smoking
The first thing we saw when we walked into the hotel was the roaring fire in the lounge, and on a cold winters night it was just what was needed. The evening meal was delicious, although a little pricey, the bar meals through the day seemed a better purchase. The room we had was small but cosy and the bed was the comfiest hotel bed I have ever slept in. No functions in the hotel, so was extremely quiet. I would like to go again in the summer to have a walk round the area, as it was a very wet couple of days when we stayed, as the grounds and surrounding area looked lovely. I booked two rooms at the same time, however our rooms were on different floors, which was a little awkward. Also my mother-in-law mentioned that there was no full length mirror in her room, but there was in ours. On the whole they were very minor things, which did not spoil our stay at the hotel. We would definitely go back.
Excellent first class food .Very pleasant staff. Beautiful bedroom, very clean. In need of refurbishment (and air freshners )on the landing!
food was excellent, couldnt be better. room was very comfortable. lovely big bed. staff were very good beams in room too low. my husband banged his head several times. food menu was too cleverly written. there was no clear explanation to dishes and the pricing was silly eg something for £7.00 was written 7 pounds. i feel this should be changed it would make the menu more appealing and inviting
After a long car journey in miserable weather conditions the warmth of the hotel, the comfort of the room and the friendliness of the staff were greatly appreciated.
I liked it and would stay again. Nice atmosphere. Good food.
functional as a stop over on our journey from lincs. to the trossachs in scotland.
Character of hotel - location Decor very dated, some areas in bad state of repair
Breakfast Spare bed on landing
Owner and staff were accommodating and personable. They were always available and went above and beyond in service. The hotel is quaint, so you have to deal with steps, odd rooms and baths, but it is very convenient to walk everywhere. The bar in the hotel was fun to visit in the afternoon for tea or drinks and there was lots of activity in the evening. Food was delicious, especially the full English breakfast. The bath was very small for 3 people in the room. Room was large enough to accommodate us all, but the bath was a challenge. You kind of expect this with an historical property.
Nice furnishings in room Paper thin walls meant tv in next room was audible. Shabby stairway to rooms. No warning of the clock chimes. Breakfast served by the cleaner as the usual member of staff had slept in. No choice of cooked breakfast. Took a long time to be served. When checking out we had to pay by credit card even though we thought we'd done this when booking over the internet.
Liked the age of the building with all its nooks and crannies. It was very convenient for our friends who lived opposite! The room struck cold and the had a problem with hot water
The room was very spacious and I loved the 4 poster bed. Could not get Wi-fi in the bedroom, but this is only very minor and would not stop me from staying again.
Friendly staff, large spotlessly clean room, comfy bed, very good substantial breakfast. Restaurant and bar available. Loved the "quirkiness" of the very old building.
All the staff without exception were very friendly. The dinner menu was varied and reasonably priced. The bedrooms were clean and spacious and the bed was enormous. Will definitely consider returning next year.
Friendly, clean, good value for money, central location, no hidden extras Needs a bit of upgrading but without spoiling the character of the place!!
Good facilities, high quality of service and attention to detail. No
The hotel is an interesting visual experience, with eclectic designs & decor from room to room. The breakfast buffet and dinner carvery are excellent. We were "up-graded" from a double & a single to a two-bedroomed suite, with bathroom and open-plan lounge & kitchen/diner, which was excellent and allowed us to fully enjoy a late checkout.
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Good quiet room
Very nice rooms tastefully furnished.Bar and dining room were equally good. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel is in a great location. I think you have a problem with the food. The meats on the carvery were good but the vegetables looked and tasted as if they had been cooked for hours or reheated. They were not appetising. We went in to breakfast at 8.20am and ordered full breakfasts sadly that also appeared to have been cooked very much earlier sausage hard as were the eggs and the mushrooms were very dry and vastly overcooked. Iam sure these problems could be easily rectified.Based on this experience I would not stay at or recommend your hotel to others.
Great menu, nice home made cookies in room, lovely room very comfortable, nice staff, I would definitely stay here again. The room was very warm and the hairdryer did not work.
The friendliness of all the staff and the room was exceptional
Quiet room with good food in the restaurant. Shower could have worked better.
Bedroom very comfortable No wifi in room, not working in lounge
A great and unique hotel. The rooms were amazing and the staff friendly and helpful. The location is a great base for Cumbria, North Yorkshire and the North East. Breakfast was very good and the restaurant has a good menu. Couldn't recommend the hotel enough and would definately recommend a suite if one is available.
Was given a suite instead of room which was very nice. The field was full of shetland ponies which were loveley. It,s a very nice place to stay.
We liked everything about the hotel and hope to return in the future. Excellent food, beautiful location and comfortable accommodation.
generally a great get away from it hotel
The suite we stayed in was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly. We were charged a minimal amount for our 3 year old staying in our suite, but when we pointed out that the booking.com website said we would not be charged if we used available beds, the charge was removed. The bar food was too expensive for what it was - £15-20 for a main meal which was served with oven chips is just over the top. Call them 'pomme frittes' if you want, and state 'all food is prepared fresh so you may have to wait 20 min', but if what you actually mean is 'the oven chips take 20 minutes' , don't charge so much!!!!
