Great car, great price, but smokey
Cons: After we drove away we began to smell and feel the effects of a car that had been smoked in and covered up by air freshener. As my wife and I are both very allergic to cigarette smoke, we had to drive the whole trip with the windows down or cracked enough to let in fresh air. The good news is Advantage gave us 20% refund upon out return and lodging our disappointment.

OK, part good, part not so good.
Pros: Price and value.
The car itself was new and good quality.
Rental shuttle service at the Sunport is shared with all agencies, and the service and schedule are poor.
Cons: Had to get a second pre-drive inspection due to weak documentation of existing damage.
The deposit policy was unusual and not previously disclosed, and proved to be a pain.
Pickup was slow for a variety of reasons.

Pros: Dollar - the car company in the next kiosk took pity on me at 11:30 PM on Sat. night and gave me a car at the same prce - boy was I lucky!
The Dollar car was very excellent and so was their service.
Again - very lucky that they were next door and gave a great deal!!!
Cons: When I arrived at the desk - the agent said she had no cars left! Never had that happen! I would say at least 6 people that were renting were in a similar situation!
Rental car was clean, roomy and got good gas mileage. Comfortable and handled well in snowy conditions. GPS worked very well even in remote areas of northern New Mexico.
Cons: Slow leak in left rear tire required continual filling. At pickup I was informed that I could not use my Bank of America debit card. This meant that my traveling companion needed to use her card which added approximately $200 more for the rental (extra driver and other charges). I was quoted $230 online but ended up paying around $560. At pick up the woman at the counter said I could sign up for a top-up refill at $1.98 a gallon which I did. At return, I was charged for an entire tank of gas at $1.98, not a top-up. I will not use Dollar Car Rental again.

Cons: When I booked the car, I booked a standared, but when I got to the rental, even though I had selected the standard car, it was selected as generic and what is avalible for that price. Which was the pint size Chevy Sonic, Ford Fiesta or Chevy Aero. Bottom line, know what you are renting.

Cheap and dirty
Pros: The desk service agent was terrific.
Cons: I paid more for the "special" than economy. I was expecting a compact or better. The car was an economy. It was not clean. It had cheap crank windows. I didn't have time to run back to the counter to ask for another car, or I would have.
They only had one service person (in the middle of the day) to check me out. The wait was too long. I've never waited that long to turn the car in before.

Cons: Unbelievably slow, but that was only the beginning. The agent said my (only) card was being declined, twice. Called my bank, Payless had not been declined, hadn't even connected. I stood in line behind one person for a further 45 minutes, and this time the agent said they had a new "system", and it couldn't read my card! He suggested I try another rental company, so I tried, but cost was exorbitant. So after TWO AND A HALF HOURS trying to rent a car, almost all of it spent at the Payless desk, I decided to use a taxi. It was a good decision. They were cheaper than a car would have been, even Payless, prompt and courteous. This is the second time I've tried unsuccessfully to rent a car from Payless at ABQ, and for sure the last.

Pros: decent care for a reasonable price
Cons: at pick-up sales person tried to sell me an upgrade, then added some kind of roadside emergency coverage without my consent ($4.99/day), and misinformed me about local gas prices hoping to entice me to purchase pre-pay gas option. The cost shown on my original reservation was $205 and the initial contract the agent printed up was $275. I hate this kind of nickel-dime stuff at the desk and he had to redo the contract to remove the roadside emergency coverage that he hadn't mentioned and thought I wouldn't notice which cost me time at the counter. I know employees are trained in these deceptive practices and find it deplorable.

Pros: The employees I had interaction with were very nice. I just wish they had a way to staff the counter/booth all the time.
Cons: When I returned the car no one was in the booth. There was a note "I'll be back in 20 minutes". I was unable to wait 20 minutes because I had to catch a plane. It was uncomfortable just putting the keys in the box. I still have not received a receipt for my rental car 2 days later.

Pros: Good car
Cons: Overcharged. I was promised a charge around $240 upon pickup. I had paid $60 for insurance offered by kayak. The clerk tried signing me up for the insurance Payless offers, amounting to a total of over 500 dollars. Had i not been alert, i would have signed up for both policies.
I was also overcharged on my credit card; Payless estimated the overall cost for the week would be around 240 dollars, though a charge of 319 dollars has appeared on my statement.

Cons: The rental ended up being more than twice as much as it was advertised; pick up took an inordinately large amount of time even though I was the only customer being handled; I was subject to agressive attempts to up sell; and drop off took more than half an hour, again despite there being no other customers.

Cons: My assumption was that the Enterprise office was at the airport. This was wrong. My plane arrived at 7PM. This rental was placed at a downtown office that closed at 6PM. I had to rent from the Enterprise at the airport. They didn't have an intermediate car so I paid $184 instead of the $107 quoted. Kayak did not share everything I needed to know. Disappointing.

Pros: A nice Chrysler 300C was my rental vehicle and I was very pleased with it. The vehicle handled exceptionally well and averaged 33 mpg at the posted interstate speed of 75 mph. More car than I expected but then I drive a 1995 Corolla! Everyone was friendly and courteous and answered all my questions. I would definitely recommend Enterprise Car rentals.
Cons: As I stated previously in the like column, more car than I was accustomed to. I did not know how to use the keyless start and had to look around for the gear shift knob (which I was fascinated with by the way)! My daughter was with me when I picked up the vehicle and she is the one who ended up giving me instructions. With all the new features in the newer cars, I would suggest having the techs ask if the customer is accustomed to the new technology instead of assuming they are. Please do not take this as a complaint, just something to think about especially with us 'older' drivers.

They were horrid and stranded me at the airport
Cons: I wasnt able to pay with a debit card at the desk after I lost my credit card because I was 24. they wouldnt accept another credit card not in my name. They was very unhelpful. I got stranded at the ABQ airport for hours. However, the other enterprise in santa fe said that was false and they rented a car to me once I arrived in santa fe. I had to go to two enterprise offices in Santa Fe to get assistance. I wasted 4 hours waiting for a ride at the airport because the enterprise at the airport didnt know their information. I could use a debit card if I showed my return flight which I had on me at the time. I will never rent from this company again nor make a reservation with them. I wasted a whole day of my vacation.

Pros: This was our first time renting with Enterprise. We really enjoyed getting to select our vehicle!!! That's something we had never experienced. And they had a pretty good selection, as well.
And the customer service was fantastic and everyone enjoyable to interact with!
Cons: i showed up with my printed out confirmed , reserved reservation for a car for 8 day rental and got to office, no cars... after 2 hrs of calls and saying I'm not leaving without a car.. hertz send me to their repair center and they gave me one. ran fine, just had no shocks left so handled very poorly.. then, they tried to charge me more since they had no cars for me under my reserved contract... horrible customer service my local office manager also... she was sick from eating some food she liked by had allergic reactions to, but kept eating it?????
i'll avoid hertz at all costs..!! joe austin tx.

Pros: I "signed up for" Albuquerque Airport, but the actual location was a $20 uber ride into the suburbs (both ways) - probably my fault for not reading the fine print on the pick-up location and checking googlemaps, but I had searched for "Airport." At the pick-up, I was informed there were two Hertz locations even closer to the airport than the one I got. the airport loc also said they were out of cars. it's as if the different locations are competing with each other. The price was OK even with the uber, but at the return, I got slapped with the taxes (another $30), In other words: $70 and two extra hours of travel not expected.

Pros: I really liked the customer service, I thought both of the ladies at pickup and drop off were excellent customer service reps but that was the only good part of the experience unfortunately.
Cons: I booked a Rav4 or similiar SUV on kayak.com and got a fair price for my trip I thought. However when I turned up to the Albuquerque city location I was told that they did not know how I made the booking... the only vehicle they had left was a toyota Yaris - and I needed the suv because I was transporting posessions in boxes and I had a few bags as well. I was on a deadline so I had to just jam them all in and hope for the best. In the vehicle, once everything was in, the only space left to sit was the drivers seat. Whats more is the car was filthy, inside and out. We did the usual walk around the vehicle and I signed off as being okay. Then I went inside to use the washroom and when I jumped back in the vehicle and started driving I reallised that the gas tank was not full. I drove 6 hours from Albuquerque to Denver being uncomfortable and all I was able to get was 14$ off the original price. All in all, not a very enjoyable experience.

Pros: The next day they did help, by picking us up at the hotel, getting us our car and on our way. Just wish they would have called when we weren't there exactly at 6 so we wouldn't have had to waste a night of our vacation. Lesson learned don't rely on just internet for booking. Always call and talk to real people!
Cons: I had put a pick up time of 6 PM but arrived at 6:12 having taken an airport shuttle to the wrong Hertz location first. Sadly they closed at 6, (not sure why they allowed a pick up time at the exact time they would be closing?) so we were not able to get our car. After trying to find some sort of solution ended up having to stay a night in a hotel in Albuquerque until the next morning.

Pros: Easy drop off.
Cons: Pick up location was not where we had thought when making the reservation. As a result our reservation price was not honored and I had to start again. It ended up costing over 100% more. There was only one employee at the counter when we arrived, with 4 people in line. As a result the whole transaction took about an hour. I was given an "upgrade" to a Ford Fiesta. Wow! Insurance seemed a bit exorbitant.

Pros: Clean new car. Great cruise control for adjusting driving speeds. Good aircon. Quiet ride on the highway...smooth transmission with a compression setting appropriate for descending down the mountain without having to ride the brakes.
Cons: No briefing from rental agent regarding the remote, keyless starting feature of the Mazda 3. I had never seen one before. Had to ask because couldn't figure out how to start the car.
The remote can be affected by near by radio tower radiations. I had to try a couple of dozen times from different positions around the car to lock the doors with the remote when parked at the top of Sandia mountain near Albuquerque. The radio towers at the top of the mountain can disrupt the signal from the remote. Finally got it locked, but discovered that there was a hidden key inside the remote. So was able unlock it at the one key hole (drivers side only). Fortunately the car started with no problem.

Happy with car but not with Hertz
Pros: When car was picked up the young man that took care of my rental
was new and he tried hard to do things as he was told by the woman
Cons: Brought car back 1 day early and was told I wouldn't get a pro-rated
refund due to it being a weekly rental.
I didn't like the high pressure that was put on me to take
their insurance after I had my insurance applied to the car while I was
driving it, this was done by the woman.
Cons: Grumpy employees
The "compact" car I was given is classified as "subcompact" by other car rental companies

Cons: We thought we were renting a car at the airport, but it turned out the car rental came from a location that required a cab ride. KAYAK, please make it clearer when a car rental is at the airport or is off site and requires a ride to get there.

Caution when car rentals are not a part of airport
Pros: Budget personnel at the Albuquerque Airport get five stars for finding us a AWD SUV and getting us on our way for a reasonable up charge for airport taxes and especially under the circumstances! We cannot thank Gil enough!
Cons: We reserved a Budget SUV that turned out to be in downtown Albuquerque. By the time we were told we had to take the shuttle back to the airport to get a $40 cab ride to the other location it would have been too late in the day to rent the SUV. A caution should be noted on addresses that are not connected to the shuttle service from airports.
Also noting rental closing times.

Alamo economy rental
Pros: No complaints whatsoever. Apparently Alamo and National share a counter, workers, and fleet of cars in Albuquerque. Got a Ford Fiesta tiny little thing for just a shade over $10/day. Three days ended up costing $35, spent more on gas than on renting the car. And the car was surprisingly smooth, an enjoyable ride up to Raton and back as well as driving around Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
Staff was efficient and courteous on pickup and drop-off, car was cheap and more than adequate, plenty clean. Great value in my eyes.

Cons: I flew into Albuquerque Avis said my rental was at a location 30 minutes away and I had to rent a vehicle for 3x the original rental rate. They had me hostage I had no choice, my reservation was in the system and nothing was attempted to help other that take advantage of the situation.

Pros: The drop off experience was very good, with very friendly/understanding attendants.
Cons: I don't know for sure, but it seems like more than a coincidence that a very damaged car was provided to the renter (me) who would drive it far away (one way rental). Worse was that they made no effort to detail the numerous damages to the car. I'm accustomed to having to check out a car, including going over damages. This pickup points expects you to drive away. I had to find someone and make them document the damaged trunk (like someone pried it open with a crow bar) and dislodged bumper; and many small dings. Furthermore, there was dirt inside. I was charged 2.5 times their local rate and was given their worst car, with service that bordered on deceptive. Thrifty, who is one in the same as Dollar at ABO, is NO LONGER my rental company of choice.

Easy drop off
Pros: staff was responsive; nice car and great value.
Cons: We were shown to car and authoriEd to drive off. We self inspected and found a huge (18-20") scratch. Couldn't find a human at first so had to wait in Thrifty lot. Finally found employee and the scratch was not noted prior to us. Good thing we checked car and reported BEFOREHAND we drove away as we would've been liable for said scratch. That was my only negative.
Car was clean but not sparkling as we had to wash Windows upon pick up.
