In case you have to travel during peak hours, you can use Polposis Road, West Creek Road, or Williams Lane, which are usually less congested. The drive From BOS to Hyannis takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, and then a traditional ferry from Hyannis to Nantucket takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Great experience overall. The agent at the counter was helpful and friendly. LOVE that there was so little paperwork. Time at the counter was fast. Still pricey however.

Cons:
I searched for a car rental pickup in Hyannis, MA. The search setting apparently also included rentals in Nantucket. So when I arrived to pick up the car, the car was not available in Hyannis. When I inquired, I learned my car rental pickup had been booked for Nantucket, a location I could not even get to without taking a ferry. Furthermore, my drop-off location was in NJ. So the notion that I was allowed to pickup a car on an island to be dropped off in NJ is absurd. This type of booking should not be allowed to even take place. Who would ever rent a car in Nantucket, pay to put a rental car on a ferry, then drop it off on the mainland. You need to put in booking restrictions against this type of reservation, so this does not occur in the future.

Pros:
Nothing
Cons:
The staff at the pickup were extremely unprofessional, the main Hertz customer service was the worst I have ever experienced, and the dropoff location had been closed several months ago.
We had to wait to get our car, but it was because we arrived early. The agent was generally fine and took care of our needs. The car was comfortable and served our needs. Drop off was easy at the airport.

The lobby where the Thrifty desk is located is crazy loud. I could barely hear the representative when I called the location directly. It completely put me off, but I stuck with it. I had no problem with the car or staff. The walk to the lot for picking up the car is a bit of a pain but I'm not sure how they could work around that since the office is right at the dock. Overall a good experience.

Rental was for a commercial van and it was a bait and switch situation - instead of the van the only available vehicle was a Penske box truck. Vehicle had more than 100,000 miles, reeked of smoke and felt dangerous to drive.
