Spacious, well equipped rooms with friendly staff. European guests may be suprised to be presented with plastic cutlery and polystyrene plates at the breakfast buffet which looks disappointingly cheap but seems common in USA.
the bed was very comfortable I specifically went for the pool. However, it was too cold to swim in and the attendant couldn't help. He said it was 81 but it was not. Adults shied away -- it couldn't have been more than 68. I was terribly disappointed.
The room was excellent. Initial staff that greeted us Larry was not friendly or sympathetic that I was upset my credit card had been charged without my knowledge.
Free breakfest was great. Nothing
A great central location to all surrounding cities and highways. The complimentary wifi was a huge plus! Margarita's was right in the parking lot. Our bed was made a bit sloppy, the breakfast was not very good but they did have alternative breakfast options than a hot meal.

The size of the room and amenities were perfect for our family of 4. The free breakfast had a decent variety of options and also changed the selection the next day which was a pleasant surprise. All staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful.
Complimentary dinner and drinks Mon-thurs! It was a pleasant suprise after traveling 7hrs with 2 children! Too many teenagers in pool Friday night. Very loud. Not the hotel's fault though.
The rooms were nice- it was a nice home away from home. We had a king bed, couch and kitchen. There was complimentary breakfast everyday and complimentary dinner from M-Th. The staff was nice and helpful. The shuttle was convenient to take me to work. No.
It was a great room with exceptional staff Everything was great!
Very convenient location.
Stayed in this suite for longer than 30 days and I would stay in this one if I could have it travel everywhere that I need to go. The staff is very helpful and friendly, making it more like home. I enjoy the breakfast and the dinners, they help keep my children from asking for us to go to Burger King. General Manager has put together a great team and the team work shows with every task. A team I would be honored to work with.
Moved us out of the room we had ordered to a different one

LOVED BREAKFAST, POOL,HOT TUB, AND FITNESS ROOM SCHOOL BUSSES STARTING ALMOST 2 HOURS BEFORE LEAVING, AND THE HOTEL REALLY NEED SOFT CLOSING DOORS. WHEN ADULTS CHAPERONING HIGH SCHOOLERS CONSTENTLY SLAM DOORS SO THE WHOLE FLOOR SHAKES AND WAKES EVERYONE UP AT 6AM. KIDS RUNNING IN HALLWAY WASN'T TOO BAD.
Very comfortable hotel. The staff were very friendly. Would stay again.
Loved our stay! The view was beautiful from our room. Really enjoyed the breakfast too. Not your typical continental breakfast. We'll be back!
the room and river scenery
the view was nice the service was good rooms clean decent comp breakfast had to climb open outside stairs to get to room
Check-In was at 3:00pm and we were not able to get into our rooms until almost 4:00pm
The view crom the hotel over the marsh, the proximity to a clean sandy beach with rolling breakers and the comfort of the room. The fact that the hotel was on a main road, but the rooms are sufficiently laid back for that not to be a nuisance
Stayed in King room with balcony Great room room were recently renovated which was great view was good Room was under main lobby and could hear everybody going to breakfast
The location was perfect, i really enjoyed the shuttle to the beach which is a big plus. The breakfast could hace been a bit more elaborated, the room smelled like mold.
The riverfront location and the fact they had kayaking available was a big draw for us. The location is great apart from some awkward (temporary) road construction in front which makes entering and exiting the parking area a bit dicey. The inn was just renovated and shows some updates, but some features definitely seemed dated and worn out. Our room clearly wasn't one of the best they had and our "sitting area" (as opposed to deck) was two vinyl chairs next to the parking area, not facing the water. Some rooms have a water-facing deck, but not us. No matter. The kayaks are only available during the "high tide cycle" and usually only once per day. There's a three to four hour window when you can rent them, but the attendant is also on call. The place was clean and overall fine. Skip the free breakfast. Even with "fresh" waffles made from a tasteless, disgusting mix, the whole event is a glorified continental breakfast at best. Better to head to Ogunquit to the various breakfast joints and get a real breakfast. Limited kayaking hours was a surprise to us but it made sense because the river is tidal. A bit overpriced for what you get, but I am sure the area commands the prices because of summer attractions and the beautiful beach at Ogunquit.
the location was great to everything in the area, the free breakfast was not to bad either the room had a stuffy odor to it
Good location downtown, nice staff. Pool was under construction for renovations, and we had really been eagerly awaiting this part of the trip with two little kids. No continental breakfast - only their restaurant with overpriced and far underperforming food.
Very clean, nice room, great location Fire alarm went off, girls soccer team staying near us was very loud and rude, yelling in hallway past quiet hours, the door to our room did not close all the way.
Rooms were nice and clean. I was on club level and the ice machine and people walking around were very loud. Did not feel private. Guy at the desk was very non customer service oriented. As I found with most people at that desk. Valet guy was very nice. Pay decent money you expect a little more courtesy. I do not expect to stay there again.
It was quaint The shower ceiling was very sharply angled in my room
Clean, large rooms. Sauna was broken and hot tub was closed (although it wasn't mentioned online).
The staff were very friendly, it was exceptionally clean, close to town. No hot tub available only seasonal
They were so good to our dog. We would stay there again
Great staff, great room accommodations, good location with easy access to major highways, downtown, and beach. We would stay here again on our next trip to Portsmouth. A great value for the price and a knowledgeable staff. Nothing.
The Port Inn in Portsmouth, NH is a well kept, clean place to stay. Convenient to the highway and to downtown Portsmouth with a very welcoming and friendly staff.
We loved everything about this place! When we drove up I thought we were going into a motel from the 50's, which wasn't a good thing in my opinion - I didn't have fond memories of those rooms. However, when we opened our door we loved the room! It was just like a boutique hotel room - it was really nice. The staff was awesome! I probably wouldn't like walking to the office/breakfast room in the cold months, but in May it was perfect.
We really liked the hotel. It was a convenient location, right off 95 on our way home from Maine. Clean, comfortable, and the staff was very friendly. There was only ONE thing that bothered me and had we stayed more than one night would have driven me absolutely crazy: the floor above us. Our room was located on the bottem level of the hotel, room 125. The room directly above us has the creakiest floors which left me wide awake listening to the people above getting ready in the morning. Not a problem if they got up later or I was a deep sleeper, but the floor boards started their symphony at 5:30 am, far too early for my vacation.
The manager Steven went well above and beyond the service of any other hotel experience I've had and I travel quite frequently for work. I will certainly be back again. The breakfast is a great bonus!
The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to every thing. Room was beautiful and clean. The shower felt so good after a long day on the beach in the sun. The beds were comfy but the pillows could be a little harder. The staff was amazing...always pleasant. The free breakfast was far more than we expected and was a great way of starting the day. Love the valet parking. ...very convenient. We will definitely be back next time we are in town. Kathleen Kelley September 2015 Pillows, not that I hated them...just that they need to be alittle harder....not enough neck support.
So close to everything
Loved how clean it was, the staff was super friendly. We both got a free drink for waiting a little extra for our room, our room was spectacular. Valet staff were great too. The overall stay was awesome!!! The bed was a little uncomfortable. But that's the only complaint from us.
Directions and signage are not easily understood or noticed
Convenience Yes. Noisy outside at 4 AM. My room was next to the room that the ice machine was in. Noisy!!
Nothing Everything!! Moved out after first night.
We chose this Days Inn because of its proximity to UNH. The gentleman that checked us in was extremely friendly. The room, although clean, smelled of past smokers. The hotel definitely could use some updating overall.
It was a quick stop for a nap as I needed to get back on the road. I was only there five hours
The beds were comfortable, bathroom was more than adequate for our needs, and as usual we were grateful for the Continental Breakfast.
We used this hotel as an overnight stop on a road trip around New England. The hotel was very easy to find, was clean and comfortable. Staff were all pleasant annd polite and helpful. Breakfast room/buffet was very clean, tidy and had a good basic range to choose from. Although not the cheapest of hotels on our trip (we stayed in 7 different locations) we would definately stay again. Thank you to all the staff, could not find fault.
It location is in the middle of Dover. There are many shops and restaurants with in walking distance. Thankfully there is a Dunklin Donuts a block away. You'll need it for your breakfast. I have NEVER stayed in a noiser hotel. You can hear the people in the next room and out side speaking in a normal voice. The carpets were stained. There aren't any grips on the bottom of the tub so be very carful you don't slip and fall. But, if you do fall and can't get up, you won't have to yell very loudly for someone to hear you. There are no vending machines. If you would like some thing to drink, you need to visit the office and ask the grumpy man behind the counter. He, made it very obvious that he would have rather had been any place other then work. I am a pet lover and think it is great that you can bring your pet on vacation. However, there were so many barking dogs I couldn't sleep. Well maybe it was really the crying baby a room or 2 away. Or, it could have been the very uncomfortable pillows. Or the cleaning staff talking and laughing outside.
Cozy, well decorated room. Needed a small fridge for medication.
Great location and views, Hotel was also beautiful. Front desk helpful.Room small but well appointed. Bathroom was great. I had a 80 min massage and it was fabulous! Indoor pool was also very nice. It was too cold out to use the outside pool. I did not use the restaurants but they both looked nice but pricy. This is really picky but there was dust and cobwebs in my bathroom and stains on the window blinds, normally I would never complain about this but when Im paying 369.00 a night I expect it to be Perfect.
Facilities, pool, bar/restaurant Small rooms
The pool area is beautiful and kept very clean. The food at the Restaurant, Salt was terrible.
It is a well restored old hotel that is beautiful inside and out, with beautiful gardens. It was very clean and we could not hear other guests. The location on the island just adds to the charm.
Perfect weekend getaway just a short drive from Boston. The ideal place to stay if you have kids. Pools, beaches, resteraunts, you name it! We had a blast and will definitely be back!!!
I liked the location and I prefer this resort during the winter. We were given a closer room to the indoor pool which was nice. employees were very nice and the room was very nice and clean, very comfortable. Great value for the money spent on the room. There were too many kids, and they were highly unsupervised jumping around, splashing us in the hot tub and horseplay. Apparently they only have one legal bartender and she was on maternity leave so none of the staff could sell us liquor so we went for beers only. Our room lock broke and we were locked out when we returned from the pool and it was snowing. We waited for the maintenance to open it which was fast and then we had to switch rooms around 9:30pm. All together I liked our visit but it was better the first time.
I loved being able to walk the beach without crowding of people and my balcony view was relaxing as I was able to hear the waves all night. I didn't like the fact I had to clean the refrigerator top as the ice tray was stuck to it and coffee was all over the ice tray. The toilet was sprayed but not cleaned. I wanted so badly to relax and take a bath, but the tub had not been cleaned and there was a white film ring around it. I am also glad I am not allergic to mold, as above the tub area there was an abundance of black mold. These areas may seem fine for others, however, I really needed some "Time off" from having to clean. Maybe if the hotel was busy and the cleaning crew was limited on time, but this was off season and not busy at all.
Rooms were not big but they were cozy, functional and clean. The access to the beach and the views were wonderful. We were there offl season and it was quiet. Very good room for the price paid. Enjoyable and the location is the best. The ocean view entry door and large ocean view window opened on to the access balcony so other guest are walking by your door and window. Definitely opt for the $ upcharge for the 2nd or 3rd floor; otherwise you will be looking directly into parked cars. But the ocean and beach are 100 yards away and that is where we wanted to be.
Location, price noisy rooms, thin walls.. Not good for sleeping in.
The rooms are very small
The manager was very nice. The room was very smal and old. The blanket has spot on it. The carpet was not clean. It was ok for me but I would not recommand this hotel to my mother.
Poor breakfast, hotel style motel, old bed, expensive price, picture false the condition of the hotel. not happy. two stars max
breakfast, pool,It was closed to stores, beach, well to everything The price compared to the other just across. The colonial is old, very old
Short walking distance from the beach. Nice building from outside. Room was small, not too clean and the bed was uncomfortable. Bathroom was also ridiculously small. I do not recommend this hotel for a romantic week-end.
It was a good location at a good price with nice, friendly people running the place.
Temporarily parked by entrance (20 minutes) while we got our room and unpacked. Valets were pleasant and professional. Hotel location was excellent and Portsmouth is very walkable. At this price, we expected a complimentary breakfast. Expensive valet only parking. We found our own parking nearby for free.
Very clean and a great location Valet parking was the only option
Overall nice place No bath tub!
I thought our room smelled and felt a bit musty.
Unable to stay here because they had no confirmed reservation
Loved being close to everything, but by far the staff at the desk, valet, and housekeeping was above and beyond super nice... I just wished I could have turned the heat down more than to 65, without turning it off. it was very hot in the room..
Very clean and modern, friendly staff and accessable to dowtntown
Location was fantastic....right in the heart of Portsmouth. Nothing
I really enjoyed the food and cocktails while watching football. There was a server by the name Anca who took great care of me. The rooms where very clean and it's walking distance to everything. Parking stinks
I would like to recognize Dimple Patel and Natalia for their exceptional service. Each encounter was so pleasant, welcoming and engaging. I travel often for work and never have I encountered such exceptional service on a consistent basis. Dimple and Natalia are what made my stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Portsmouth Downtown enjoyable, not the hotel amenities nor the look of the hotel.
It was a very quiet location but very close to downtown. The rooms were clean and large. The breakfast was very good. The breakfast area was too small for the amount of people there at the time. The one woman cleaning the area could not keep up with getting the tables clean and restocking the food.
Hotel staff was great - very helpful. The room was great for our family.
The room was spacious and clean and the staff was very friendly. Good solid value. Nothing to really complain about.
Quiet setting among the trees. Free internet. Nice hot breakfast, at least on Sunday. The towels in the pool area were tiny and as rough as 60 grit sandpaper. The towels in the room were a little softer (200 grit) but still small. Not something you can change now, but design would be better if bathroom were accessible without having to go through the bedroom.
I enjoyed the stay, plan to come back.
Breakfast staff had difficulty keeping up with demand. Items ran out throughout our brief visit. They made every effort when it was brought to their attention, but we had to bring things to their attention quite a bit. (The coffee is out. The fruit has run out. The waffle mix is empty. There is no syrup. The decaf is out. There is still no fruit. There are no bowls. The regular coffee is out again…)
