Pros: We stayed for 2 nights in early July and had a great stay. The host is absolutely fantastic, so helpful and kind. Any questions we had, he answered. We also loved chatting to him over breakfast and dinner. He arranged a great afternoon safari for us with a very knowledgable driver who could even spot out the most tiny wildlife like a chameleon camouflaging on a tree! We also saw between 20-30 elephants. It was incredible! The food was some of the best in Sri Lanka, breakfast was huge and also consisted of snacks for later in the day which you can take like samosas and coconut cake. There was unlimited tea / coffee and drinking water. Dinner consisted of various Sri Lankan curries, poppadoms, rice and some fruit for after. All this for a cheap price! The rooms were also really nice. So big and not hot st all, only the fan was needed. Big comfortable bed and WiFi that actually works. The garden was also really nice to sit and relax in after or before the national park. If you are reading this review looking to come here for the National Park, please book this place, you won't regret it!
Cons: Everything was perfect, thanks for a great stay :)

The guesthouse is very close to the main town in case you need an ATM. And an all it was a super experience! Cheers

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wow what a great place to stay. We arrived and was welcomed with a nice refreshing drink. We was offered dinner by the owner and decided it would be great to stay there for food and will save us trying to find somewhere to eat. The food was fantastic and plenty of it too. The rooms where large the beds where very comfortable and the shower room was great too. He had a friend who has a safari jeep and offered us a fantastic price for that so we gladly took the offer. In the morning before the safari we was given bananas, some snacks and water to take with us. After the amazing safari and arriving back at the resort I stopped for breakfast. The breakfast was huge and very tasty, he bagged some up for us to take on our journey to our next location too. He also helped us get the bus to our next stop. What a fantastic family run business they ticked all the boxes. We even had our washing done by them and everything cost us very little money. You can’t get a better deal anywhere. I highly recommend you stay here and take advantage of all they have to offer. You won’t be disappointed
Cons: No complaints at all

Pros: The welcome drink was cold and refreshing. the owner and his wife are absolutely lovely as are all of the other staff. The wifi is good considering you're in the middle of a national park essentially! The evening buffet sri lankan meal was the best we've had here (and we've been travelling round for 5 weeks). It was so great we went back for a second round. The grounds of the property are beautiful and so well kept. They arranged all the safari for us and the driver was brilliant and took us to great spots to see elephants. :)

Pros: Wonderful private room in the middle of the wood. It looked like we were in the middle of nowhere. The welcoming drink was very tasty. The host was very helpful with the place to have dinner and our trip to our next destination (he even drew us a map). We booked the safari to Uduwalawe with him and it was very nice. The driver was so cool and we had a wonderful time even if we haven’t seen a lot of animals.
Cons: Nothing. It is a wonderful place. But if you don’t like quite rustic accommodation, don’t go.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We arrived and were warmly welcomed by the owner, who got very excited a showed us a chameleon that was sat on a bush just outside our hut! We were then brought a fresh fruit juice, whilst we sat on our porch and enjoyed the surroundings. The room and bathroom were lovely. Dinner was served later, and it was an incredible spread. The owner organised our safari for 5am the next day and managed to find 2 other people to join us to bring the cost down. We went with his cousin, who spoke less English than the owner, so perhaps was not as informative, but the safari was still amazing, we saw a huge amount of wildlife and he definitely tried to get away from other jeeps so we could be on our own! At most there were 3 or 4 other jeeps around, but this only happened once! Highly recommend this place!
Cons: Would have loved to go on the Safari with the owner as he seemed hugely knowledgeable and psyched on animals.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was really caring and helpful, and the room was really nice! Also the safari was amazing, we barely saw other jeeps and we saw tons of animals!
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Interesting little huts that were clean and comfortable, ideal for a nights sleep before our safari! Upul the manager was so friendly & went out of his way to help us get food in the evening & arrange our safari for us. The safari was a great experience but maybe not one i'd do again - a long 5 hours in the heat (we struggle to sit still) and it wasn't great to see so many jeeps approaching animals all at once - thankfully we didn't have this experience but to watch 5 other jeeps crowd around elephants isn't comfortable viewing - beware!
Cons: Take ear plugs just incase - there was a party somehere in the local area that shook our little hut!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Upul was a fantastic host who went above and beyond for us. He arranged a private safari driver within a short time of arriving who was excellent. Would definitely recommend for anyone going to the udawalawe area!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Private Organic House is the absolut perfect place if you are in Udawalawe for the Safari. The houses are perfectly kept and designed by Upaul, the owner of the place. They have evertything you need and the most awesome bathrooms. Upaul, the owner, is great. He will help you with everything, and organize and coordinate the safari for you for a fraction of the price, and double the time, totally recomended. Also, Upauls mother cook the most amazing food, make sure you stay for dinner! Easiest 10/10 in Sri Lanka.
Cons: Everything was on point!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Internet is bit dodgy at times, but that appears to be common in this area.
Cons: We booked based on positive reviews where owner sorted everything from safaris to transfers. We had the same positive experience. Rooms are simple, but clean and very much sufficient. Owner sorted us with safari for a good price & transfer to Ella in a nice A/C mini van (good price too). Owner even gave us a free lift & allowed us to have a shower when back from safari. So all absolutely beautiful.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was peaceful and the garden beautiful. Lovely rooms. Loads of hot water and a hair dryer too! The evening meal was fantastic and the safari was brilliant - longer than average and the guide was really good at finding animals/birds and intetesting plants. Great place to stay if you want to experience Udawalawe with a nature enthusiast.
Cons: There’s nothing to complain about. It was great.
10.0 Excellent

We were welcomed by the owner who was very helpful during out stay. He arranged the safari which was great and also helped us with our onward journey. The breakfast and dinner we had were delicious. The rooms were very comfortable and clean! Would highly recommend if you're looking for somewhere relaxing to stay in Udawalawe.

Pros: Good People. Peaceful Area.We heard lots of birds and saw lots of monkeys right outside the Room ! The safari was also a lot of fun! We did the morning half day safari and saw tons of elephants, water buffalo and peacocks. We also saw some monkeys, wild boar, eagles and even a a couple crocodiles! Lots of birds as well! Pros: the atmosphere of the house was super nice, we were part of their lovely family and we were also treated as such. they only have 2 rooms for guests and it is the same house where they leave so sharing with them is easy and nice. Highly recommended.
Cons: a small misunderstanding about the guide of the tour that shoudl have been included, then actually it came up to be the driver (difficult sicne it is driving), we insisted and ended with a proper guide from the park.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was the absolute best place we have stayed in Sri Lanka so far! The room were perfectly clean, the ac very good and everything was just very comfortable. The owner planed an amazing safari for us. With a very good and informative driver, everything worked out very easily and on time, and to an very reasonable price. They made sure that breakfast was ready for us when we came back from the safari. We also had dinner here, and both meals were really delicious! The owner is another reason to why we loved staying here. Even though we have heard better English, he is definitely the person in Sri Lanka who have helped us the most! He is very obliging and friendly, and runs the place very professionally. Besides from taking care of everything with the safari, he also found out what was the best way for us to get to next place, and he even walked us to the bus, so we were sure to get to the right place. Besides from this he even gave us really good tips about the rest of our time in Sri Lanka.

Pros: Great location and ample parking. Very clean room and the bathroom. This is a surprised small hotel for me in the area. The owner was super supportive and attentive. I didn’t had time to enjoy any meals therefore I am not commenting on food. But I am sure F&B will be great as well. It’s runs by a family and if you are foreign tourists then you will feel that you will be staying at a home. Highly recommend to stay in this hotel than any known names in Embilipitiya town.

Pros: This is the best value place i have stayed at in the 15 years that I have visited Sri Lanka. The manager was so helpful upgrading us to a room with air conditioning st no cost. The pool is excellent clean with sunbathing facilities. I visited with a Sri Lankan friend so we had both a Sri Lankan and continental breakfast of large size. I thoroughly recommend this hotel. The cost was extremely cheap considering the facilities.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We have been here before, in 2012 and our experience was pretty good back then. We chose to stay here again based that, and we were not disappointed! The room we received, was clean and spacious enough, with good air-conditioning. Washroom was very clean too. Though small, the swimming pool is nicely set in the back-garden. We had a very nice breakfast. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Swimming pool needs bit of touching up, since there were some sharp edges. It has limited space for parking (2 cars most). But we didn't have any issues since there were very few guests. This place just has a small garden area by the pool. So if you are looking for a spacious area out there, this might not be the best place for you.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: In the 15 years that I have been visiting Sri Lanka this is the best value place I have stayed in. The manager was most helpful suggesting places to eat out as the resort offers breakfast only. The breakfast was superb catering for both western and Sri Lankan tastes as my friend is Sri Lankan. The pool is clean and well supplied with outdoor furniture. I recommend this place to anybody. We were upgraded at no extra cost to a room with air conditioning.

Pros: This hotel is situated, a bit away from the rest of the busy hotel surrounding in Udawalawe. It has a spacious, well-maintained garden. They have a nice and clean swimming pool. Even though the our room was a bit cramped, it was nicely set. (Actually, it is built within a 20-foot container box.) However, it has an equal-sized front porch, and most interestingly an overhead relaxing area as well. The breakfast was very nice and plentiful. Most of all the staff was friendly and professional. Another interesting fact is that it is located within a walking distance to the sluice gates of the Udawalawe Reservoir, where you could experience amazing sunset in a clear evening.
Cons: We felt the washroom was too much cramped, and many of the fittings needed repairing. Other than that it was generally ok.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing!! We really loved the location of the hotel, it was very calm and very lively with trees everywhere. Hotel staff was so helpful and caring. The rooms were clean and the pool was refreshing. The foods were tasty and plenty. They arranged us a safari with their safari jeep and an amazing driver who was our guide. He was very descriptive about wildlife in the park. We had our breakfast inside the park too, it was adventurous. They arranged transportation for us with comfortable vehicles. They were so eager to help us with everything we requested. Thank you for you kindness. We had a great time.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Pool is nice after safari, plenty animals to see i.e. Paradise Birds, iguana, chameleon, bee-eaters etc. Kids loved it.

Cons: Bathroom could have been a bit cleaner but overall ok
7.0 Good
Pros: Pool and amazing wildlife all around.
Cons: Air con couldn't be altered. Some of the locks a bit dodgy. Lake view is misleading, it is actually a river view. Price advertised in dollars but they only took payment in rupees.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location, great pool, friendly staff. Dinner was very good.
Cons: Beds were quite firm. More pillows and blankets would have been good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really loved the time we spent in this hotel. The staff members were very helpful and kind to us. We went on a half day 6h safari with a driver called Lasa who was explained everything in detail to us while spotting animals. It was one of the most interesting safaris we had gone. We didn't feel time passing. Also we got the pick up service from this hotel too. The vehicle was very neat and had best air conditioning which made our journeys relaxing meanwhile the driver was very careful while driving which made us feel comfortable. We enjoyed the meals, they were tasty and plenty. We really thank you for making us feel comfortable and pleasure throughout the all 3 days that we spent in your hotel. Hope to visit you all again when we come to Sri Lanka again. We highly recommend this hotel for all the travellers out there.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The cottages are located in a very spacious and well maintained green garden with lots of trees. This produces a very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere which perfectly matches with the sourrounding nature. The swimming pool was well maintained and it helped a lot to cope with the very hot weather. The breakfast (included in the price) was just excellent! I would denitetively come back .
Cons: The hotel managers just have to put a bit more of the attention on the cleaning of the rooms, which overall was OK, but it could be improved.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay at Birds Paradise Inn. Thenuka and Ajantha are fantastic hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and their attention to detail was to be commended. Food was 1st class and plentiful. Highly recommend staying here.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: What a lovely place!!!! It was like a safari lodge with beautiful birds everywhere and we even saw some monkies and a big lizard in the river. The staff arranged a safari tour for us with a jeep for 4000 (ex entrance tickets). The driver Lasa has an amazing eye for spotting wildlife and we saw so many animals. We didn't get a guide from the park but Mr. Lasa explained alot. The hotel also arranged our transfers from and to the next hotel for reasonable prices. But the biggest suprise was the great food. Dinner and especially breakfast was one the best we've had in Sri Lanka.
Cons: The waterpressure in the shower was a bit too low.

Pros: Simply, the best accommodation we have had in Sri Lanka. the gesthouse is clean and comfortable, the owner is adorable and the little care for guests. 10 minutes walk from the bus station, quiet in a well maintained garden. Perfect.

Pros: Great accommodation. The room and bathroom was super nice, modern and clean, Lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds, very peaceful and relaxing. Was delighted to having amazing, delicious sri lankan breakfast, Was truly the best. 10-15 Mins away for visiting the Udawalawe National Park. The owner arranged full day safari, 4x4 Jeep with nice and helpful driver, was very reasonable price. Had a unique experience with viewing lots of elephant. The owner and staff was very friendly and helpful. Gave lots of information about Ceylon history and geographical interest places to visit.

Pros: Location, staff, breakfast, and room size were great.
Cons: Slow wifi, TV essentially not functioning, facilities (e.g. pool or gym) would need some polishment.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Dessert options in all meals can Ben better
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service. Mr. Jayasinghe and Miss. Iresha has done a great job.
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice place and really nice staff
Cons: Room service is not good .
8.0 Excellent
Cons: Not wifi in the rooms only in the lobby. Not possible to go down to the lake from the hotel, gate was closed.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Location is beautiful with a view of the lake on nearly 3 sides of the property.
Cons: Rooms were not clean. I mean there was literally dust on the floor, especially in the corners. We found an earthworm in the bathroom, and a dead bug on the bed. The towels are not clean and have old stains and dust. The pillows are the same. THERE IS NO WIFI IN THE ROOMS! The food (dinner buffet) here is expensive, but it's pathetic except for the Sri Lankan spread which is quite good. But not good enough to make up for the flies buzzing around your food. The breakfast buffet spread was very average with no selection of meat. When we arrived there was a wedding function going on, and the guests were drunk and smoking and creating a lot of ruckus which could be heard till our room on the fourth floor. Basically this place falls short of being classy. Although the staff at the front desk are prompt and polite, the overall feeling is negative due to the above mentioned issues.
7.0 Good
Pros: Room is excellent. Food is good and tasty
Cons: We checked-in in the evening but it took 45 minuets to give us the room. Actually they don’t know about our booking. Front desk lady said there’s no booking from booking.com and then i showed my booking details. Then they got to know about this booking. This is very bad.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful resort with lake view. We use it just as the overnight base for Uda Walawe national park but it is worth to spend one-two days more. We checked-in at 9 pm, I asked for the laundry service and my clothes was ready by 10.30 am in the morning after we came back from the park! :)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We had a lovely three night stay at this hotel. We were upgraded upon arrival and had a beautiful, spacious room with views of the lake. Most guests appeared to only stay a night - for the purpose of the safari (30 mins drive). We stayed three nights, which allowed us the opportunity to relax and use the facilities - pool and spa (both nice). There is not much to do in the immediate location - we did elephant transit home, safari and travelled to Tangalle bay (1hrs drive) during our two full days. The staff at the hotel are very friendly, and go out of their way to make the trip enjoyable. The food in the restaurant was good and varied, and meant we were happy eating there for the duration of our stay. The hotel appears to be under booked, as there are areas of the hotel that look unused. Whilst it didn't impact our stay, it's a shame to see a hotel with a lot of potential so quiet. Minor quibble was having to get a different code for the wifi daily. Would definitely stay again. And a nice, relaxed hotel to stay after the hustle and bustle of the. busier cities.

7.0 Good
Pros: The setting with the surrounding Forrest with all the trees and birds is very nice. The staff is very friendly. In general a typical big hotel.
Cons: Noisy and very loud AC. You could also hear your neighbors very good (a woman next to us coughed the whole night...). In general you can see that the hotel is a Little old already which also the previous comments mention. But apparently the heared the comments and are now starting to renovate the place. When we were there there were (noisy) renovations going on on the ground floor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely clean rooms, amazing service, staff were always obliging and went out of their way to help us. The setting is spectacular and so close to the national park for safari tours.
Cons: Having to leave
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The food in the restaurant was amazing ! Staff in the hotel was very helpful except for the manager.
Cons: The manager wasn’t really helpful when we had a request, especially since we were the only customers in the hotel !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff, room, swimming pool and all other facilities were excellent. The safari was one of the best experiences of our lives and thoroughly recommend.
Cons: Due to the lack of customers we felt that the restaurant menu could have been reduced as to get better quality. A vast menu and all 3 of our evening meals were poor unfortunately, and the most expensive meals we had in Sri Lanka. When tourism picks up again and they are busier I’m sure the quality will be there again, shame.
6.8 Good
Pros: Surroundings with river and natural environment was great.
Cons: Room was very dark. Not very user friendly. Bathroom very basic and run down.

Pros: Owner took us on a superb safari to Udawalawe National Park. He was really knowledgeable and interesting and went out of his way to provide us with a great experience. Lovely evening meal and breakfast after the safari trip
Cons: We were the only people staying there and it felt a bit isolated.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owners who can take you on unforgettable safari. They also cook well! The place itself is very simple, but is very spacious and there is a big yard in front of the rooms
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great owner, very helpful. He organize the best safari trip. Very good dinner and breakfast
Cons: The room could be a little bit cleaner
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Basic room with AC. The bathroom could be renewed. Nice garden where you can sit in the evening. Helpful staff. Very honest host that organizes the best safari :) You can tell that he's got a nose and the experience when it comes to finding animals in the park. He did everything to make us feel satisfied during the safari - cruising for a long time and choosing less commonly used roads. We felt like if it was a friend who took us for a ride in the park and not like a commercial attraction - thanks for that! He tells good stories about the animals and the local customs :) We honestly recommend it and would definitely choose it again.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was very nicely prepared by the workers which are super friendly and helpful. Owner organized amazing safari. We woke up very early to be one of the first people in quite long line of jeeps before entrance. We saw a lot of animals;) After safari we get really good breakfast. Then they helped us to catch right bus. Good value for money. I can recommend this place!
Cons: Bathroom could be a little bit cleaner.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: Dirty sheets and bedclothes.
7.5 Good
Pros: I think that everyone goes there not just because of the rooms but because of the amazing experience Mohan gives while doing Safari. We had a great time with him, saw most of the animals we could a few times! Safari exceeded our expectations and was the best activity in Sri Lanka we think! The staff was friendly, good dinner and great breakfast! Highly Recommended!!
Cons: Room was quite clean but the bathroom was dirty.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super nice and clean, AC working, the owner is the amazing person. He makes safari drive by own safari car. Safari was grea, owner try to do the best and he done. Best wishes. Recomend! :)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely welcoming staff. Owner made for us the best safari at all. We woke up at 4am, hop on to his jeep, we were first at the gate to safari, which is really important and then he took us to the nicest spots to see wild life. They helped us with bus to Mirisa then. Udawalawe is about safari and this man is doing it very well.
Cons: There's no hot water. But it's so hot outside that we didn't mind at all
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location, awesome hospitality. Owner of hotel is great safari tour guide . He and his staff take good care of guests .

Pros: The place is very clean, very nice. I had a wonderful dinner made by mom of the owner and it was the best Sri Lankan food l tried in Sri Lanka. Super helpful staff and family. I been there for Safari, they organized everything, picking up from hostel and going to national park etc.l was the only client,l really felt very safe and like home. I definitely recommend you that place.
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner organised for us safari in Udawalale. It was great. We paid 6000 rupiees each, but it was good deal. 4 hours in the park. Good place for one night stay and safari.
Cons: Lots of ants coming to the room. Poor wifi.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very good value for money Perfect to visit the Udawalawe national park
6.8 Good
Pros: The owner and staff are so friendly and really helped us with organising a Safari for a very good price and offered food if we wanted to. The room is very basic but works for just one night and is cheap to be able to do the Safari.
Cons: The room stank of cigarettes, don’t know whether the people before had been smoking in the room or not. Although the location is good to be able to get to the Safari, there is not much else to do in the town at all, we struggled to find somewhere to eat. Recommend only staying one night.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Had a great stay, the owner was extremely nice and helpful, spoke perfect English and arranged everything for us. His family was very nice too and prepared lunch and dinner for us which were delicious!
Cons: The only communication we had with the owner was through the phone, we never got to see him in person which made it a little difficult but his family was very nice to us.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner of the hotel was very helpfull. Even before I arrived he contacted us to make sure our travels to the hotel were going smooth. Also during our stay he and the other staff was very willing to help us to arrange travels and sight seeing. Rooms are simple but more then acceptable for this price. Perfect for a short stay for a traveller who wants a cheap but comfortable stay!
7.5 Good
Pros: This guesthouse is located right along the Embilipitiya - Nonagama (A18) road just 500m away from the Embilipitiya town. Therefore very easy to find, and convenient to get around. Manager was friendly and helpful. Very cheap rates. Definitely good value for the money spent!
Cons: Facilities inside the room was very basic. The attached bathroom was not great but clean enough. Rooms were located on 2 floors up, which could make it a bit difficult if you have heavy baggage. Neighborhood is a bit noisy due to the closeness to the main road.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff were very nice and organized a great half day safari for us for 6000 rupees each. The room is basic but comfortable and the bathroom is huge. Felt safe even though not in center of town and only a quick walk in. Fine to stay in for a night or two and very cheap.
Cons: Lots of mosquitoes in room but there was nets and fan. Walls were quite dirty with stains. Wifi worked great the first day but then slowed right down which may have been due to lots more guests arriving.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was really spacious and clean, but it's really warm, even with the ceiling fan. Even though there were some screw up, the owner followed up with us throughout to ensure we had no problems and went to the safari and took the right bus to Mirissa after the safari. Service is really good.
Cons: The location on maps.me is not accurate, it's 100m or something further down (above the medical center). We had some problems checking in as it was new year and no one was there, no reception and we didn't know what to do. Owner should have told us earlier that no one is there to receive us. In the end, the sister and mother came to check us in.

Pros: Lovely decor and communal areas, could easily be in conde naste with a bit of a push. Incredible value given the quality of accommodation. Overall very friendly staff.
Cons: Very little. Cleaning of room fridge and pool area. Room needs to be more bug proof. Don’t bother using the hotel for a safari. The driver of our safari was rude, disinterested and twice asked us for a tip.

6.5 Good
Cons: Restaurant possible but the food is not good and small quantities
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The food was awesome
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The structure is almost new and well taken care of. the staff was kind and helpful right away. The rooms are spacious and clean. Good safari at a perfectly average price.
Cons: Communication in English needs to be improved, despite the goodwill and availability of staff. Meal prices are to be reconsidered absolutely. Around the structure there is nothing, to take the bus or to find an ATM you need to take a tuk tuk.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The room was clean and new. The area around it was very calm.
Cons: This place was a disappointment. Even though the room was clean and new (which were the only good things about it), overall we did not have a good experience. When we arrived, we were told we could use the AC and we were given the remote control for it. On the last day, when we paid for the accommodation, they charged us a lot extra for the AC, stating we had booked a room without AC. The problem was not the price itself (even though it was about double the room price), but the fact that they never told us there would be an extra charge for using it. They simply gave us a room with AC and gave us the remote control. We found this a very dishonest attitude, a very bad way to put a "hidden" charge. If they told us about this charge when they gave us the room, we probably would have used the AC anyway and paid for it, but hiding it until the time to pay was very bad. Also, the guy that runs the place (and the only person that speaks English there) lives somewhere else quite far and only came around to sell his safari tour, which was completely overpriced (we did a great safari with another guide for 1/3 of the price and it was excellent, we paid the normal price for it). The guy from the hotel was very pushy and cheeky to sell us things and when we didn't accepted it, he simply went away and just came back when we needed to leave. As the people there didn't speak English, it was very difficult to communicate to anyone (but they were nice people), we tried to ask if they sold water but no one understood us, so we just walked about 20 minutes to a street with shops to get it. We had dinner once and it was ok, but also a bit expensive. The internet didn't work at all in our room during our stay.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Staff were friendly, didn't speak much English but were really sweet
Cons: The manager on the other hand was really inappropriate. Came into our room to meet us and talk about a safari and lay down on our bed. He then got really angry when we weren't happy with his price as we had found cheaper elsewhere. We even considered checking out on our second night and going elsewhere as we didn't feel safe, until we met the other staff which were really nice and stay on site
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owner was extremely helpful in catering for us, allowing us to watch the football on his TV and organising the safari and transport to Arugam Bay afterwards. The safari was excellent and at a normal/good price.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for one night at Morningside Resort as we wanted to see the Elephants at Udawalawa national park. I have to say, the manager, Sujee, was so lovely and went over and above in helping us organise a safari trip. He also cooked us a lovely dinner and breakfast, which we really appreciated. Sujee also organised a taxi for us to get back to where we were based in Galle which made everything really efficient. Thanks alot for a brilliant stay, and to Sujee for making really it special.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A great stay with lovely staff. They organised transport to the guest house and a fantastic trip of a life time. All the staff were lovely and helpful. A fab location and a great room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We had to stay at the neighbours, as the actual Resort was booked out. The room seemed to be newly built and was nice and clean with a fan and curtains for a good night sleep (except for the party folks next door that kept playing music). Sujee was very friendly and helpful with booking a safari and a tuktuk to take us to the bus stop etc.
Cons: The resort is very remote (generally Udawalawa is a very small town) and we had to take a 3 km taxi ride to find a place to have dinner (having said that, the Morningside Safari Resort offers dinner as well, which we didn't take advantage of).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We liked the place but to find the hotel we had lot of trouble

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice family. The meal was delicous and generous proportions. They even gave me amotorbike ride into town and put me on the right bus.
Cons: The wood panel that separates the room from the rest of the house should be of thick heavy wood to block sound. A mirror for shaving in the bathroom is needed. They wish you to use the brothers safari company, but the communication and information from the brother was limited. I took a Safari with another operator.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice family. The room and the bathroom were nice and clean. Food was delicious. I would recommend to anyone.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very very friendly and helpfull family, they let us feel like at home. Delitious breakfast and lunch. Owners took ys fflm bus station, helped with safari. There is a place for clofhers drying.
Cons: Wi-fi and any internet conection worked very very hardly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly family. Nice room, comfortable clean bed. Wifi worked. Washing machine.
Cons: It was very hard to find. Location on map was not right and there was no outdoor sign.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good room, friendly lady, good food for a reasonable price. Her brother does safari for a good and honest price.
Cons: We didn't find it, it's totally not next to the river and their is no sign at all with the name of the homestay. After walking through the street a couple of times we've called them to ask where it was and they picked us up with a tuck tuck. The bathroom was wet, something was leaking, couldn't find what. When we arrived you had to ask for everything like toilet paper, towel, sheets etc... No problem of course, you'll get everything in the end. But the thing that bothered me the most was that there was no lock on the door. You can lock the room from the inside, but there is no key to lock the room from the outside while you go on a safari for example. Didn't had a good feeling to leave my stuff behind. I've lost some money during this period, I can't put an exact time on it. It might happened here, it might have happened somewhere else, but it didn't feel right.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The swimming pool, breakfast, Host, safari
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Bedrooms clean and functional. Suggest going for air con as night times can be quite toasting. Amazing breakfasts served - enough for several meals: pancakes, eggs, fruit, toast followed by a full Sri Lankan meal with string hoppers, daal and several curries. Wow!!! Fabulous swimming pool surrounded by a natural forest/jungle. In fact the whole hotel is in a beautiful environment and be sure to visit the elephant orphanage as well as the National Park!
Cons: Well actually everything was good but I would suggest: - the dining room: think about the ambience of the place with mood lighting rather than the direct lighting from the ceiling. - I was very surprised when the Sri Lankan meal we ordered was served cold!! Please hot food required.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Good breakfast , very nice pool great safari driver , nice staff
Cons: Tired old accommodation , needs major update
7.0 Good
Pros: Very nice people and staff. Very good breakfast and food, normal prices for the food. Beautiful place, room with en without airco. Many mosquitos but you can ask for a pop up mosquito tent at the reception, thats great! Great safari!
Cons: We were the only guests. Cleaning is ok but can be better. It would be nice to have bottles of water, a cooker for coffee and tea and a small fridge in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was our third stay and the staff were great as always. Highly recommended.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is very good. Safari was very good.
Cons: Food in the hotel is very expensive and not many other places you can go to. Also the quality of the food is poor. Place could use some maintenance.
7.5 Good
Pros: It had a nice swimming pool which the children enjoyed very much. Nice buffet breakfast too.
Cons: Lots of mosquitos and the electricity went off twice during our one night stay.
7.5 Good
Pros: Even though limited, the food was incredibly tasty. The pool is a win. There isn't much else to do except safaris, so the pool is a nice option for the afternoons. You can get a pop up tent style mosquito net to put over the beds. Use them! The site looked very lovely, the staff all seemed very polite. The breakfast was endless. Food just kept on being brought out. You can also request a packed breakfast for the early start safari mornings.
Cons: Staff had very little English - it seemed only 1 guy had decent English. No one else talked with us. The facilities were very basic but fine. No fridge in rooms, no safe and nowhere to keep clothing. No options for a mini bar or snacks anywhere. Water bottles not replenished and beds and rooms not turned over during stays. Being quite remote you have to rely on the on site restaurant for food - fairly limited options.
7.5 Good
Pros: The quirky nature of the hotel and restuarant. The staff were really lovely people. The gardens were really pleasant. While old and in need of some tender loving care the place was very comfortable.
Cons: A bit dated and old. In need of some tender loving care. the Wifi eas only realy ecffective around the reception area. Remoter than I thought.
