Europcar wanted another $1000 to rent the car after I had already paid for the reservation. This is a trend at the airport in Ecuador. You can rent a car just outside the airport that does not try to scam you for an extra $250 per day in insurance. Europcar would not give me the car unless I paid more. I wasted an hour of my time but eventually rented the same car elsewhere and without being forced to pay for insurance that I didn’t want or need.Reviewed Jul 10 2026

I was quoted a price and paid the insurance online prior to arriving. The agent then tells me the insurance I bought isn't good enough and I had to purchase theirs and they held a $1,000 deposit as well which they charged me $500 for a tiny scratch on the bottom bumper. It was ok. But when it was my turn at the counter another client was having problems and the staff was too rude with them to the point to ignore the client. I personally explained them their concern but the staff continued to be rude towards them. I think they don’t have a policy for the guaranty. I called in advance to ask how much it will be and they told me between $200 - $700 but when I was there they asked me for $1500 for an economy and small car. I told me about my phone call and they told me they will “help me” with $1000. Once you are there and need the car you have no more options. The car had a humidity smell… but with the hours stopped.Reviewed Aug 23 2024

The price advertised is not the real price when you get there. Every where we travel we can use either our insurance policies or our credit cards insurance benefits. Here they charged us way more money because they denied to accept our insurance. We got the car anyway cause we arrived at the airport at 3:00 in the morning and we’ve been told that it’s dangerous in Ecuador to get cabs.Reviewed Jul 19 2024
