Staff friendly. Car was clean.

Cons:

A lot of attempts to upsell (car type, insurance, etc). Agreed to more for a little larger car (had thought I booked larger than compact) for comfort. Car was 2+ years old with very basic features. (No electric seat adjustment, seats rather uncomfortable, windshield wiper broken)

The car, a Malibu, was great, except for wiper blade. Counter people friendly.

Cons:

1. No free parking for my clunker 2. Bad wiper blade on passenger side. I went back to desk and was offered a different car, which I accepted. That car had the same problem but I just put up with it. 3. I would like to have been able to have the car owners manual so I could learn how the audio system functions

Pros:

Checking in was a breeze. It took mere minutes to get our rental and be on our way. Checking in was just as easy. The car was clean inside and out when we picked it up. The rental rate for the weekend was very competitive and economical.

Cons:

Would like to see rentals with optional Sirrus or similar radio available as an option.

Pros:

When there was a question on my rate, theirs differed from what was quoted, they sent me on my way so I could get my vacation started while they took a copy of my quote and worked it out. By the time I got to my destination, I had a voicemail telling me it was all taken care of and she just wanted me to know right away so I wasn't thinking about it all weekend.

Cons:

No one from hertz looked over the rental car With me for condition prior to taking out the car. And though the location was open at 9am for our return there was no one at the location on our arrival until 9:55a. Moreover I was Told that my card was denied when hertz put in the incorrect amount. Had the correct amount been inputted into the system the credit card would have worked fine. First and Last time using Hertz.

Pros:

Easy drop off and pick up and friendly staff.

Cons:

Staff has been trained to push the upsell - so I was goaded into getting an upgrade for what was billed as a great deal, a fraction of what the car usually goes for, only to find my bill at the end of the trip was $600 instead of the originally booked $300. Not at all happy about being suckered into that.

Staff was friendly, pickup/drop-off were standard, no complaints.

Cons:

Smallest car I've ever rented, the comparable vehicle shown online and what was available in that class were two different things. I own the car that was shown on hertz.com for that class, and the car that I rented was definitely a step down.

Pros:

Picking up the car was easy, staff person reminded us that hybrid cars do not make engine noise on start up, and the gave us directions out of the airport, very helpful. The small airport meant it was a short walk to the rental parking lot, which is well marked. We were delighted to rent a hybrid car.

Cons:

Would have appreciated a drop off box for keys, as rental contract included unlimited mileage. We waited behind a family choosing car seats for their small children, which took awhile. We were sympathetic and thankfully, not in a hurry. If we were in a rush, waiting behind those picking up a car just to turn in keys would have been nerve-wracking.

Pros:

Seemed inattentive.

Cons:

Drove 9 miles total and they said I used over a gallon of gas. I didn’t even think I drove that far. The gauge never moved from full. They charged me $20 more for it. I dropped it off at the airport for a flight so I can’t go back and dispute this in person. It’s just appalling.

Cons:

When we were checking in the line was extremely long and there was only one person working. She did her best to move quickly but it still put a delay in our travels.

Pros:

Honestly.... nothing!! I’ll never rent from Avis again.

Cons:

To much to list!!! But I guess the most frustrating thing was the fact I was downgraded to a vehicle because the original vehicle had a cracked windshield and I wasn’t compensated, I should have been UPGRADED! Or offered a major discount, after driving 10 hours in a lesser vehicle that was extremely less comfortable, I was furious.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
