I liked the quaintness of the building, the helpfulness and friendliness of the hotel staff, and the location of the hotel itself, right on the Rapenburg canal. It was easy walking distance to the rest of the city as well as to the main train station. Negotiating the stairs, especially with luggage. However, given the origin of the building, that was part of the experience!
friendly staff, good english ventilation annoying sound in the room
Excelent situation in Leiden city centre. Traditional in feel. But basic in services and facilities Lack of cupboard space, had to live out of the suitcase. Breakfast was basic and not good value for money. No hairdryer or coffee making facikities in the room
Comfortable bed, nice clean shower area Noisy chambermaids, no tea/coffee-making facilities in the room WC door not in keeping with the quality of the room
Great location at the 'Rapenburg'
Location is good but not else except the dinning room. The corridors and rooms are ugly and certainly not worth 100 euros per night. The beds were soft and the rooms need completely re-decorating. They are not making much of this historic building and its certainly not a boutique hotel. I guess we were giving an old room as we asked for a quiet room, but this should have been discounted.
The architecture of the building and very friendly staff absence of a hairdryer
The hotel is in a great location to explore Leiden. The room was quite and the staff friendly. The furniture/equipment of the room is functional but not amazing. The hotel is overpriced for its standard, however within the normal range of prices in Leiden. No hairdryer in the room and extra charge for breakfast.
Easy to find - the directions on the Web Site were good. The room was very clean and tidy with all the facilities that I needed. The sound insulation between rooms (both the adjacent room and the one above) could be improved.
Big windows in room, every day clean towels, small hotel near the center, air condition Wi-fi must be free in rooms, bar may be open in room
Quiet and reall confortable there is no Internet access via WIFI
Excellent location in the centre of the town, with friendly staff. The rooms were quiet, comfortable and clean. I would have preferred tea and coffee making facilities in the room (although I accept that this may not be normal in Dutch hotels). The breakfast was expensive and the hot food was overcooked.
Very good hotel, excelent location. Small single room but its ... Holland. Very clean. They don t have fridge. Sometimes a light smell from the canal.
The hotel is very is really in the down town The heating system seemed not working properly.
Staff people were very kind and serviceable and the food at the restaurant was very tasty. Absolutely nothing to complain.
Conveniently located near the centre of Leiden. Our room was very well appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts good. The room safe did not work and the hotel had no central safe where we could leave valuables. Evenings were noisy but this was mainly due to a series of weekend concerts in the nearby square, and things quietened after midnight. Mini bar only available on payment of a 50 euro deposit
Warm, comfortable, very friendly and helpful staff, good food A lounge with tv would have been useful for those who want to stay in during the day
Close to centre, good access, pleasant staff, clean rooms No
nice staff. Room comfortable. very good location, nearby the downtown too noisy with the doors. bad isolation. the room card does not always work when we come back late evening.
Location of hotel , character of building No lift
Location superior..comfort well above average. value superior Lots of stairs, I have bad knees and I would like to have known about this
The location of the hotel in the city centre is a winner. The extra charge for a poor breakfast.
Going across the road to Webster Uni for my Sisters 60th Birthday Party
Very good breakfast buffet and 24 manning of the front door. Located exactly where I wanted to be. A small refrigerator would have been nice.
immediate help when there was a problem with the room overprized internet connection
the opportunity to use free internet in the lobby noise from neighbourrooms was annoying at times
Close to everything Kids partying all night all around. Hard to sleep with that going on.
Wonderful location. I also liked the fact that this is NOT a hotel-chain place. every room is different, antique furniture. Interesting. The building is old, so various issues come up (like there was no hot water for a short while).
Big rooms and bathrooms and location Hotel in process of renovation and some features unfinished - could be OK when work completed.
It is directly down the main street coming out of the train station and was perfectly located for the work I had to do at the University of Leiden. For a hotel labelled "three stars," it was really pretty shabby. The bed sagged badly. Everything was "adequate," but nothing more than that. The desk staff answered questions, but were sharp on the point of being impolite.
There is nothing positive of note to mention. I wouldnt recommend anyone stay here. Broken toilet, mouldy walls, rude and indifferent staff, unreachable line (if you call the front desk you get a taxi service who takes a message and brings it to staff who roundly ignore it), broken refrigerator, unclean smell, unfair room assignment, cleaning staff leaves garbage and supplies all over the stairs making it harder to navigate safely, especially with baggage. I could go on.
The staff were very accommodating and very helpful
The hotel is centrally located within the town of Leiden. It is within walking distance of the railway station, restaurants, canals and shopping. The hotel seemed a little run down and breakfast was very basic. Some staff were very welcoming but a number let the side down by being unfriendly and sharp with guests.
This hotel is inaccurately rated as a 3-star hotel, but in reality it's barely a 1-star. The furnishings in the rooms are old and unclean. The first room I had was leaking water from the ceiling, and when I changed rooms the second room also had a leak in the ceiling. The bed mattresses are old, sagging and very uncomfortable. And the worst part is that this hotel is far overpriced for a 1-star hotel. I've stayed in youth hostels that are better than this. I've also stayed in nearly every other hotel in Leiden, and this is far and away the worst in town.
Good location, friendly staff
very well located, close to the train station and the city centre
privacy no bathroom robe and slippers
the kindness of the staff The breakfast is poor, maybe they could change it.
convinience to rail station, good bedside light, good clean bathroom and shower, plenty TV stations and a very reasonable price No aircon althought this is not a probelem in Winter
