Convenience for business meetings in the Leiden area and efficiency of checking in and out, Beakfast seems expensive
Staff were very friendly and welcoming We unexpectedly receiveda package when we returned to our room on the Saturday evening (our second night) including a voucher for free dinner for two in their restaurant. This was a lovely thought, but arrived too late in our stay to make use of it as we had already eaten on the Saturday evening before we received it and their restaurant isn't open on Sundays.
good location and attached to a 4-star hotel This was advertised as the 4-star Golden tulip Inn but was actually a room in the attached 3-star tulip Inn. The Tulip Inn had very few amenities and was a very basic room.
Cleanliness and pleasant staff
the brakfast menu was excellent, lots of choice and variety for every taste, very near the train and bus station ,also near the city, walking distance, near many beautiful parts of the city such as the wind mill and many canals.
The fact that you could open your window was brilliant! The bed was very comfortable and the staff were courteous. The location was great and the food in their restaurant was very nice. The cost of the internet was exorbitant. At 22 Euro per device was the most expensive we have ever paid. At breakfast the restaurant was full and there was not much left. I was surprised that they didn't replenish. We did get down there half an hour before it closed but other people arrived as well. We had to pay for a full breakfast when we really only had a continental! The eggs were cold and the bacon was very hard and in little bits. The staff were courteous but not helpful, they didn't clear our dishes which was messy and in the end I cleared them.
The location was very good and the room comfortable and clean That I had to pay 17 euros for 24 hours internet access. For this kind of hotel this should be complimentary
Hotel is in perfect location to the railway and the city center. Nice Restaurant / bar area , beautiful rooms, complete breakfast selection. room is very noisy , doors do not close very tight.
The location near Leiden town centre The depressing and dreadful lighting in both the rooms and the public ares as the bulbs are of a low wattage
This was a chance booking because our usual hotel in the area was full: however, this hotel impressed and we shall certainly stay there again. The hotel is conveniently located (if a little loud at times due to traffic noise) and very comfortable. Breakfast was good (though specific items were not replenished from about 30 min before advertised end of the breakfast period) and the hotel restaurant was also good. The major plus for this hotel, though, is the excellent staff: very friendly and very helpful.
close to city center, breakfast The bathrooms are in nede of renovation, In my room the shower was broken and the sink stopper didn't work.
Nice location next to the train station where you can buy breakfast for a far more reasonable price. Curtains didn't cover the windows, so I woke up the moment the sun rose. Hotel isn't finished yet.
Near to the train station. Clean room. Nothing else worthy to say here. No water heater, and no free drinking water provided. This hotel expects you buy everything from their bar.The room price is not expensive, but if count in the expense on breakfast and drink you need to buy here, which is usually included in room rate for other hotels, this hotel is not cheap at all. The locker of our room was not working, we waited half an hour and finally got some staff come to help... Very bad experience here. Will never come to this hotel again.
it is close to the train station which was good for transit people like me.
good value for money
Convenience, close to rail-road station; courtesy of staff. large post in bedroom 361 lumpy pillows
Breakfast Change of room type without informing me
the comfort of the room and the food, also the location of the hotel to the train station good only the fact about tea and coffee making facilities
Great breakfast, very comfortable beds, excellent staff. All was great. 'Family Room' was just a bigger standard room, but everything else more than made up for that!! An excellent hotel.
Good breakfast, pleasent atmosphere in the restaurants the room did not have a character
clean effcient, and friendly. Breakfast was very reasonable, choices of cold meats etc, and buffet hot selection. self service tea and coffee. all very pleasnat did not stay long enough to find out
The Friendly staff The room temperature was much too high.
Its proximity to the city centre
Location is good but not else except the dinning room. The corridors and rooms are ugly and certainly not worth 100 euros per night. The beds were soft and the rooms need completely re-decorating. They are not making much of this historic building and its certainly not a boutique hotel. I guess we were giving an old room as we asked for a quiet room, but this should have been discounted.
Great location at the 'Rapenburg'
Easy to find - the directions on the Web Site were good. The room was very clean and tidy with all the facilities that I needed. The sound insulation between rooms (both the adjacent room and the one above) could be improved.
The hotel is in a great location to explore Leiden. The room was quite and the staff friendly. The furniture/equipment of the room is functional but not amazing. The hotel is overpriced for its standard, however within the normal range of prices in Leiden. No hairdryer in the room and extra charge for breakfast.
Comfortable bed, nice clean shower area Noisy chambermaids, no tea/coffee-making facilities in the room WC door not in keeping with the quality of the room
The architecture of the building and very friendly staff absence of a hairdryer
friendly staff, good english ventilation annoying sound in the room
Excelent situation in Leiden city centre. Traditional in feel. But basic in services and facilities Lack of cupboard space, had to live out of the suitcase. Breakfast was basic and not good value for money. No hairdryer or coffee making facikities in the room
I liked the quaintness of the building, the helpfulness and friendliness of the hotel staff, and the location of the hotel itself, right on the Rapenburg canal. It was easy walking distance to the rest of the city as well as to the main train station. Negotiating the stairs, especially with luggage. However, given the origin of the building, that was part of the experience!
helpful and friendly staff No breakfast room. Bedroom too cramped for eating in comfort. Would not consider this a 4 star hotel rating
Quite central and anyhow calm. Clean. In our room kitchen with cooking facilities. Very rigid management regarding non-refundable reservation. More a bed and breakfast than a hotel. High cost for wifi or Internet use. Breakfast not of 4 star quality.
Great location, great facilities, helpful staff, great room. Internet connectivity too expensive. negotiate a better deal with service provider, or follow the scandinavian model where internt connection is part of the package!
Nice and quiet hotel room, even during Leiden's ontzet. This hotel is rather expensive. Too bad there's no dining room
Proximity and ease of access to the city centre
door didn't lock well and no response to the phone call
It was a small quite hotel and private. The price was fairly high for what you get and for a 4 star hotel it was not as comfortable as some others. The hotel is not in the center, but on the other side of the station from the city center.
The breakfast was a hamper of food and sufficient for a packed lunch as well. The Keukenhof package was very good. We thought it a bit mean spirited to charge for milk to be put into the tea if taken in the English Style, and for the milk to be charged at minibar high price. The room was small but the facilities were good.
The room was very clean, comfortable and cosy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My wife and I felt most welcome, and it was great to have the third bed to accommodate our daughter when she stayed with us for a couple of nights.
Quite clean and tidy. Expensive for facilities available. Excellent location if you want to discover Leiden and cities around on foot and by train. Rooms very, very small and matress need to be changed! Over classed...
Conveniently located near the centre of Leiden. Our room was very well appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts good. The room safe did not work and the hotel had no central safe where we could leave valuables. Evenings were noisy but this was mainly due to a series of weekend concerts in the nearby square, and things quietened after midnight. Mini bar only available on payment of a 50 euro deposit
Very good hotel, excelent location. Small single room but its ... Holland. Very clean. They don t have fridge. Sometimes a light smell from the canal.
nice staff. Room comfortable. very good location, nearby the downtown too noisy with the doors. bad isolation. the room card does not always work when we come back late evening.
Staff people were very kind and serviceable and the food at the restaurant was very tasty. Absolutely nothing to complain.
Warm, comfortable, very friendly and helpful staff, good food A lounge with tv would have been useful for those who want to stay in during the day
Close to centre, good access, pleasant staff, clean rooms No
Big windows in room, every day clean towels, small hotel near the center, air condition Wi-fi must be free in rooms, bar may be open in room
Quiet and reall confortable there is no Internet access via WIFI
Excellent location in the centre of the town, with friendly staff. The rooms were quiet, comfortable and clean. I would have preferred tea and coffee making facilities in the room (although I accept that this may not be normal in Dutch hotels). The breakfast was expensive and the hot food was overcooked.
The hotel is very is really in the down town The heating system seemed not working properly.
the opportunity to use free internet in the lobby noise from neighbourrooms was annoying at times
The location of the hotel in the city centre is a winner. The extra charge for a poor breakfast.
Close to everything Kids partying all night all around. Hard to sleep with that going on.
Very good breakfast buffet and 24 manning of the front door. Located exactly where I wanted to be. A small refrigerator would have been nice.
Going across the road to Webster Uni for my Sisters 60th Birthday Party
Location superior..comfort well above average. value superior Lots of stairs, I have bad knees and I would like to have known about this
Wonderful location. I also liked the fact that this is NOT a hotel-chain place. every room is different, antique furniture. Interesting. The building is old, so various issues come up (like there was no hot water for a short while).
immediate help when there was a problem with the room overprized internet connection
Location of hotel , character of building No lift
It is directly down the main street coming out of the train station and was perfectly located for the work I had to do at the University of Leiden. For a hotel labelled "three stars," it was really pretty shabby. The bed sagged badly. Everything was "adequate," but nothing more than that. The desk staff answered questions, but were sharp on the point of being impolite.
The staff were very accommodating and very helpful
The hotel is centrally located within the town of Leiden. It is within walking distance of the railway station, restaurants, canals and shopping. The hotel seemed a little run down and breakfast was very basic. Some staff were very welcoming but a number let the side down by being unfriendly and sharp with guests.
convinience to rail station, good bedside light, good clean bathroom and shower, plenty TV stations and a very reasonable price No aircon althought this is not a probelem in Winter
There is nothing positive of note to mention. I wouldnt recommend anyone stay here. Broken toilet, mouldy walls, rude and indifferent staff, unreachable line (if you call the front desk you get a taxi service who takes a message and brings it to staff who roundly ignore it), broken refrigerator, unclean smell, unfair room assignment, cleaning staff leaves garbage and supplies all over the stairs making it harder to navigate safely, especially with baggage. I could go on.
the kindness of the staff The breakfast is poor, maybe they could change it.
Big rooms and bathrooms and location Hotel in process of renovation and some features unfinished - could be OK when work completed.
very well located, close to the train station and the city centre
privacy no bathroom robe and slippers
Good location, friendly staff
This hotel is inaccurately rated as a 3-star hotel, but in reality it's barely a 1-star. The furnishings in the rooms are old and unclean. The first room I had was leaking water from the ceiling, and when I changed rooms the second room also had a leak in the ceiling. The bed mattresses are old, sagging and very uncomfortable. And the worst part is that this hotel is far overpriced for a 1-star hotel. I've stayed in youth hostels that are better than this. I've also stayed in nearly every other hotel in Leiden, and this is far and away the worst in town.
