Pros: The location was perfect. The staff is friendly and the room - spacious and clean. Very good breakfast.
Cons: We didn't knew that the junior suites(we had a reservertion for one of them) are located in the separate building and it is somehow uncomfortable in the Arctic winter climate - for breakfast and using the jakuzzi.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Big thank you for all the staff at the reception. Very kind, nice and helpful people. Thank you for all the help we have received. Amazing sauna with breathtaking view and location.

Pros: Location is superb for seeing northern lights and it's just nice to be a little out of the main town, but still at walking distance. Staff is super friendly, the vibe is good.
Cons: The bathroom could be a little cleaner

Pros: Very polite and helpful staff. I was allowed to leave my baggage in the guesthouse's luggage room after check-out till my flight's departure in the evening.
Cons: It was a little bit cramped inside the room. I had an upped bed in a bunk, and there was no socket available from my bed to charge my phone.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location, for random Aurora watching, is pretty good. The staff were exceptionally great. And I slept like a coma patient. My friend kept griping about slamming doors and the noises other guests made but once I gagged her I got a good nights sleep.
Cons: Aren’t the doors supposed to remain unlocked in case a polar bear comes window shopping...

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I really enjoyed my stay here
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Guesthouse was good, surrounding and everything, only problem is the distance from the main town
Cons: The distance from the main shopping and eating place
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel with clean rooms and bathrooms. Facilities were great and the restaurant is really cozy. Staff is nice and the area is beautiful although a bit far from town which in my opinion was nice.
Cons: There were only very few hairdryers that could be borrowed from the reception and they were always rented out. Some people rented them for several hours and reception wouldn’t say which room they were in so we could go find it. In 30 degrees minus it’s not very nice to walk outside with wet hair and I would have brought my own if I had known.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and spacious family room with ensuite shower and toilet, friendly staff, and good restaurant at the main building. We are there for the nature so the 20 mins walk away from town and close to the edge was a good thing for us. There is an arctic fox right outside our window that visit about 12 midnight almost every night :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole place is perfect, super clean, the staff is nice and the breakfast is out of this world. The cafe is amazing and cozy. Loved it, would stay here a million times over.
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast (buffet) and great hotel.
Cons: The cleaning ladies do not speak english at all so be careful if you have a problem or issue better speak to someone in the bar.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Restaurant was amazing, good choice of stuff for breakfast. Helpful staff and the views are amazing! Warm comfortable rooms and cleaned shared bathroom facilities.
Cons: In the winter when it's -20 ish the walk into town is a bit long and it's very better but it is doable
Mary-Ann's Polarrigg - Longyearbyen - Building
4
8.8 Excellent (844 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Longyearbyen, Mary-Ann's Polarrigg is within a 15-minute walk of University Centre in Svalbard and Spitsbergen Airship Museum. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is available for a surcharge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Mary-Anns Polarrigg is a great place to stay on a budget basis. Well, the bathroom in our category was not en-suite, but clean and almost always accessible. The room was not big, but the heating was excellent, which was important with -30deg C outside. The community kitchen was clean and well kempt. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: To get to the breakfast room you have to leave the building and go next door. The beds were hardly long enough for my height (2m or 6ft6).
7.0 Good
Pros: The restaurant in the hotel is very good and it is possible to try seal and whale steak. The staff is very friendly.
Cons: The hotel was very cold. It was -26.5°C outside and the insulation is not the best.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff did a great job handling all the challenges the corona virus brought to the table. Overall very pleased with the stay.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Second stay here - this should say all you need to know. Great staff, and an excellent breakfast. Shared bathrooms may not be for everyone, but in Longyearbyen value should be a bigger consideration. This is a great place to stay, and if I return it will be to here.
Cons: I don't mind having to go outside to reach reception or the shared lounge, as it's remote from some rooms, and in -26C temperatures some might not like it - but you need to be aware of it.
7.0 Good
Pros: The living room and kitchen are very convenient.
Cons: The room and bathroom was smaller than expected. The selection at breakfast could have been a bit better (I enjoyed the selection at the Radisson Blu)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Mary-Ann's Polarrigg is a very special place! Lots of love for detail and very cozy. Breakfast is very good, also for vegetarians. Because of the 'Solfest' they even served watermelon - in wintertime and 800 miles away from the North Pole!!! The personnel is very friendly and helpful. I very much recommend this place! (Please note that the rooms with shared bathroom do not have a sink in the room.)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We had the rather small room with the shared bathroom. A few shelfs in your room would help for your stuf. Anyway, the shared livingroom was very cosy, the breakfast was excellent and the possibility to cook your own diner in the kitchen was a sort of surprise for us. Also where the girls at te reception very friendly and helpful.
Cons: A few shelfs in the rooms for storage. This would help for have more comfort and finding your stuff. Also where the rooms very warm. When it was outside minus 24 degrees celcius. It was because to prevent it form freezing. But anyway, when you want to explore Svakbard I think this is the place to be!
6.0 Good
Pros: Location and restaurant, and good breakfast.
Cons: I missed a shower and toilet at the room. But it was warm and OK . Restaurant was good, and also service.

Pros: What a hotel in a great location. Right in the centre of Longyear. The hotel was lovely - and our room, wow, what a room A corner room with 6 windows, which we could sit and watch the northern lights from!!! The hotel was warm, quiet, served a great breakfast, and offered tea and coffee all day long. Nice lounge area to relax in, and helpful staff for advice and information. Can highly recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice, warm and cosy hotel in the center of Longyearbyen. You feel like at home. Delicious breakfasts. Everything was perfect :)
6.0 Good
Pros: It is a nice and cosy hotel in the heart of Longyearbyen (Svalbard). The rooms are clean and breakfast is very nice, however, with a few vegan options.
Cons: The rooms are quite expensive as they are very small and there are no wardrobes. Especially when you visit the city in winter and have plenty of bulky clothes and layers to wear, there is nowhere to put them.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean and cozy room.
Cons: Too small table only one in the room. No space to keep stuff. Should be a desk or shelves.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Funken Lodge is a fabulous place to stay. The style is what gives you the extra feeling of being at home, feeling cosy be it in the spacious lounge and bar area or in the rooms. I have been coming to Svalbard for ten years now and wanted to finally give this hotel a try. From now on it's going to be my first choice, that's how well it compares to the rest in town. Staff are friendly and try to do their best to make your stay enjoyable. Requests were always taken care of in a friendly way and many hotels could learn here. Breakfast has a fabulous tasty selection of food and front cooking of omelettes was very much appreciated.
Cons: Prices are high, but this is normal for good accommodation in Longyearbyen.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast. Comfort. Location. Architecture.
Cons: Sauna was out of order for most of the stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff and amazing recommendations. One night was surely not long enough but I’ll know where I will stay when I return :).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great The bar was fun and people so nice. Sergio the barman was a true magician with 12 years experience around the world serving cocktails
Cons: Missed having toast for breakfast. They just serve bread.
6.3 Good
Pros: History of it being an upper class gentlemans club house for the coal mines upper management. Beautifully lined with timber lined walls and many old paintings/photos.
7.0 Good
Pros: staff were efficient and friendly arrival and checkout well organised. rooms warme and comfortable
7.3 Good
Pros: The atmosphere and comfort was excellent. Very quiet, a homey feeling.
Cons: Since there is only one flight out from Longyearbyen every day, the check-out on the day of departure should be more flexible, so that it could be postponed until 1 p.m.
5.7 Okay
Pros: I liked the hotel loby, the staff and location. The room was comfort and pleasent, nothing special. Regular breakfast was good, but the early breakfast for early leavers was a shame. It is not fair to pay so much money for the hotel and to get such a poor breakfast.
Cons: I liked the atmosphere, I liked the loby rooms (three), I liked the staff and the pancake afternon.
6.0 Good
Pros: A very good overall experience, nothing extremely superb but everything worked well and efficiently. Friendly and helpful staff. An above average breakfast buffet.
7.3 Good
Pros: Excellent facilities, friendly staff, expensive but to be expected on Svalbard, authentic atmosphere

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant location. Smack in the middle of town. Hugely atmospheric. Staff all absolutely delightful. Extremely comfortable.
Cons: Leaving
10.0 Excellent
Pros: You feel like a northern explorer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The "ruff charm" with all large wood trees, wood panel, sealskin "alover" - perfect design in the this northenmost settlement. Staff was very nice, helpful and welcoming...
Cons: Nothing!!!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly, especially Frida This who helped me with a special request. Nice atmosphere and central to shops and cafes.
Cons: I liked it, but the room decor can be described as bunk/cabin. Functional and comfortable but small and not a place to hang out. I wish the breakfast has more variety as it is the same items every day.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: This is wonderful hotel in Longyearbyen which is based on the characteristics of a traditional trapper lodge. The styling is really creative and makes for a nice place to just "be" - especially up in the loft where one can read, or work, or just relax. The staff are very helpful and enjoyable to talk to, and there is a nice little pub located beside the hotel that is equally "trapper" oriented, giving a lot of impressions of the lifestyle on Longyearbyen many years ago.
Cons: The beds/mattresses ok but not a world of comfort. That combined with the bunkbed style we had (one of us had to crawl over the other) makes the bed situation fine, but not ideal. As well, the rooms located right beside the reception area feel very near the reception area. It is not noisy, but you do notice being near the reception if you are trying to rest in the afternoon.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere. Authenticity.
Cons: We would have like a double bed. We weren't told before that wasn't possible.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a fantastic hotel, with unique atmosphere and helpful, friendly staff. The room was very clean and warm, with enough space, especially for one person. A really nice touch were good quality organic cosmetics in the bathroom. Breakfast was delicious, always with fresh bread and other natural products. It was a wonderful, unforgettable stay. I hope to come back there someday :-).
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Very attentive and knowledgeable staff, unique atmosphere, great expeditions, plenty of cool places to read, hangout, play games, watch the sky, etc. Centrally located in downtown Longyearbyen
Cons: Room was a bit difficult if I'd had a partner come with me as they were very small (yet comfortable) bunk-beds, also, you have to remove your shoes every time you come in, and it would've been nice if the hotel would provide "indoor" shoes to all the guests, as I was okay with removing my shoes, but didnt like walking around in my socks everywhere I went in the hotel.
7.0 Good
Pros: The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Each room is unique in design and decorated/constructed using driftwood and timber. Good sized bathroom with in-floor heating. Be forewarned that rooms do not have TV, telephone, fridge, minibar or wardrobes. I did not consider this to be a negative point, though some people may.Loved the glass-ceiling attic (cognac room)!
7.7 Good
Pros: Friendly staff. Interior in wonderful woodbuild; feels really authentic.
Cons: There is none.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: nice and clean hotell whit good staff and god location
Cons: could be a better variation of the breakfast meny
