I think the staff are very friendly, proffecianal and helpful. The porters were so nice which I think is very important as they are the first people you meet when you reach a hotel let alone when you are in a different country. The concierage I can not explain how polite and profecianal he was. Every thing was perfect NO
The location could not be beat No. When we discovered that our room AC was not working, we called and the moved us to another room.
Beautifully designed interiors, just expensive! lack of luggages carriers on arrival, but it was a holiday weekend
water, fruit in room and lobby, location, helpful, friendly staff, train city tour in front of hotel
The location was very confenient for sight seeing and shopping. Service was good but nothing special. It was too outdated.
Staff House keeping in the room was lacking. Floors not swept good and sink had toothpaste from previous day in it.
The proximity to all places of interest in Luzern and the view from room. Professionalism of hotel staff and helpfullnes. Nothing really.
Very comfortable room, nice customer service, good lake view.
great hotel -elegant and comfortable rooms, centrally located, great restaurant and bar, ambience
The location was excellent. The hotel is very expensive. It is rated a 5 star, but I would consider it 4. The carpets in the stairway was worn and the room was fairly small.
close to the city and confortable hotel
I liked the location and the staff. I did not like staying in a room over the bar. On two occasions I had to ask the front desk to have the noise limited/ One evening was after 11 pm and the other after 12 am.
Very well situated; beautiful view on the lake on the mountains from your balcony. The price level is comletely outrageous. The room is rather small, not over-equiped for a 5 star Hotel; breakfast is rather limited, so what remains is a beautiful view for an extreme price!
location no air conditioning, noice of the street because the room was in the first floor
The location and the view from our window/balcony was spectacular! Hotel is in a great location! Check-in staff was excellent!
I liked the location the best, right on the lake.
Great view if you get the lake side. Nicely period fitted out large room. Room stuffy but the windows opened onto a quite foot path. The room was directly above the bar and the paino played lowdly until 11:30. Avoinf rooms over the bar.
We liked the localion, the view, the garden, the breakfast, and the service.
The quality of the furnishings in the room - very luxurious. The size of the bedroom - very small
only locatioin smell in the room, old and not value for money
Location, restaurant & bar Small rooms, weird cut/shape, overstuffed with random furniture. Too noise with next doors, hall way noises very audible, especially in the morning with the house staff - vacuuming rooms with open doors... Not exactly 5 star hotel behavior.
We have stayed in many so-called 5 star hotels throughout the world, but the Grand National is truly what it says it is - a 5 star hotel in every way. It's position, staff, quality of furnishings and food are truly excellent.
Staff and location superb. Not inexpensive.
Nothing to not like - we splurged and stayed in a deluxe junior suite with a broad terrace overlooking the lake and Mt. Pilatus, which we climbed. Weather was perfect - Indian summer in September. The Friday night jazz trio was excellent. The restaurant, Jasper, was exquisite, the service perfect - efficient yet practically invisible. If I had to pick nits, I might add a Bose sound system in the room (we listened to jazz and opera from the flatscreen t.v.), and between the bar and restaurant they carried Taylor Fladgate tawny port 10, 20 and 30 year - why not the 40 year? On the other hand, the bathroom had a heated stone floor. Only regret was that we didn't have time to visit the spa, which offers a private room option. Next time, we might ask for the top room in the turret...overall a highlight weekend.
Great Hotel with beautiful view. Bar open only till 1 o'clock, I think in such level of the hotel bar must be open 24h.
Ideally located, well appointed and prestigeous hotel in Luzern. Needs to care the extra bit for those details that one would expect from a 5-star house.
Convenince of location
View and location
Excellent staff and location
Hotel Des Alpes is very near to the train station. About 10 mins walk. And is a stone throw away from Chapel Bridge. Booked this room due to the convenience. Rooms was spacious but very basic. The entrance is not via the river but have to go one round to the back. Lugging the luggage is difficult on the copper grounds. Staffs were not very friendly or maybe we are Asians? Walls of the rooms are very thin.
The location was excellent almost directly opposite the the famous Kapellbrücke (chapel bridge) which my waterfront room had a great view of. it is also part of the picturesque old city. The main train station, the exhibition centre & Luzern museum of arts (KKL) were a stone's throw away. My room was spacious, comfortable, clean and tidy. The en suite was immaculate. On the whole, the staff were friendly, smiling and helpful. An adaptor for UK electrical plugs was not available, but the staff did there best to find me one.
Very nice location! None!
The location was great.
Our room was on the 5th floor, and we had a lovely balcony with a view of the river. The room was very nice and clean. Breakfast was good. This was the only hotel we stayed in on our two-week trip to Switzerland that did not allow us to check in early. We only arrived a half-hour before check-in time and were not able to go to our room until 2 o'clock. Fortunately this was not the hotel we stayed in right after our transatlantic flight.
very good location, and a great view of the town.Friendly staff and well maintained place. uncomfortable pillows . so ask for better ones.
Great for Lake view and City centre, all clean and nice breakfast
Fantastic central location for tourists to Lucerne. Good size room at a very reasonable price. Great river and mountain view from river side rooms Reception staff could have been more helpful - no tourist information available and they didn't give any advice. No iron in hotel at all.
Good location close to the old town & easy walk from the railway station. Good buffet breakfast & helpful staff. Comfortable bedroom & generally nice ambience to the hotel. Everything was fine, no adverse comments to make.
Good location, lovely room and great en suite shower room, quiet for a city centre, lovely breakfast terrace and good breakfast
location & ambience of the hotel no
excellent location, nice room, very friendly staff, makes you feel welcome, air condition would be nice
The excellent, friendly and attentive service from all the staff. The splendid vegetarian restaurant, imaginative menus, well cooked and well presented. The absence of tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
Excellent location to the city and Lake activities all within walking distance. Room was large with great windows for light, desk, sofa and chair. Elevator. Exellent restaurant on site and breakfast was lovely in a small outside courtyard/garden. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly.
Great location to explore Luzern and the surrounding country side - all sites (and rail station) within walking distance. Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Comfortable room for a good price. Nice restaurant and bar with a garden terrace.
The staff remembered us from last year. The food was just as good as before and the location is great. Nothing
friendly staff, for a swiss hotel. No aircon, rooms were not of a good quality, room close to a noisy road
Good location. Easy to find from train station. Excellent breakfast. Nice small hotel.
This hotel is extremely well located for sightseeing in Lucerne - a one minute walk to the large church (forget it's name) and a ten minute walk to the Chapel Bridge. The room was large and the bed comfortable. Nice decor. Breakfast was a real treat. Staff were helpful in making dinner reservations. Some other reviewers mentioned the church bells. We found them charming and with the windows closed we did not even hear them overnight. This is definitely not a complaint, but even with the presence of an elevator to all floors, some persons **might** have problems going up and down the few stairs in the hallway. In our case, a staff person helped us up with our luggage.
Friendly helpful staff. Great location with easy access to the old town and other sights. Lack of air conditioning meant it was very hot in the room, and it was in a noisy location to have the windows open. The rate was expensive - more that it is really worth, but it was cheaper than other hotels at the time.
location, staff, rooms Rooms tended to be warm (no A/C or A/C ineffective) and had some traffic noise
Loved the friendly staff and their knowledge of English was very helpful for me. The location was ideal
great shower and staff smelt of smoke and very noisy - early morning personal wake up of other guests meant all have to wake up. Clock chimed loudly every 30mins so no sleep either. Not really like a hotel more like decent rooms above 3 restaurants.
This is my worst experience of life by booking.com hotels, for me this hotel was cost arround 50 frank where as I pay arround 260 frank, then extra for parking, room was full of mosquitos, was very hot in aircondition system, very old hotel, for me it was like no star hotel, where as they claim as an 4star hotel. There is nothing I like ,its my worst experience of life pay very high and get totally opposite thinking for what I payirequest booking.com, please dont offer this hotel any molre to his valued customers.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good. Its central location does make it a bit noisy at night from traffic in the main roads.
Very interesting rooms in 15th century building. Perfect location. Great off site secure parking. A bit pricey, but this may be due to the dollar weakness against the CHF.
Central location The room we were in had a bathroom with a clear glass door whchi made the toilet clearly visible from the sleeping area! When we complained they said " is that a problem?". We solved it by taping newspapers to the door with band-aids.
The staff were generally pleasant and helpful. All the rooms are listed as wireless connected. When my computer did not work in the room I was given, they were willing to change my room the following day when another room became available. The hotel was much smaller than I expected. I came with a large roller type suitcase expecting to use elevators. This hotel has elevators between floors which requires one to use the stairs at some point when moving around in the hotel. A baby crib was left in the hallway for storage in front of my room. This gave the hotel a cramped appearance and the feel of a boarding house more than a hotel. The image I had from the website did not match the reality.
The location was great. The service was very good. The breakfast buffet was very nice. The view was fantastic! No air conditioning.
service levels - particularly help from and personal manner of boris (concierge)
It was a wonderful hotel. Our room was perfect. The bar and lounge were great.
Staff we're welcoming, friendly and professional. The food was sensational and the view over the lake truly spectacular. We extended our stay to two nights! This is a wonderful hotel. Probably good to be aware that it's a 25 minute walk if you arrive by train.
room size & facilities
Everything was wonderful, especially the views from the room and the breakfast area. The breakfast buffet was excellent and all the staff were friendly and helpful. It was my wife's birthday during our stay and the reception staff noticed and went out of their way to make it special for her.
the view the bed
Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Loved the rooms, spacious and well equipt. Wonderful views from the bar and restaurant. It rained all the time we were there! So we were a bit too far out.
The service was very good. Very impressive views from hotel. Security was good. Very relax atmosphere. None.
Location very convenient, tasteful decor, breakfast, spacious room on 5th floor for family, view of Lucerne Very "business-like".... which I can't blame too much being a city hotel... and lots of business-men crowding the bar every evening... Without e.g. a swimming pool or relaxation area, no quiet spot for those wanting to relax (other than the room of course).
It was close to the centre of town A good hotel with reasonable facilities and friendly staff. Good to stay at for a couple
It is at the central scenic place and ease to move around. Security system is tight and feel very safe.
The hotel is nice but the room was a bit small for a triple and at the price quoted. The view of the room was a bit disappointing although it was located next to the wooden bridge of Lucerne. But for price, the room was okay.
Staff-Location-Value.Over the year's I have stayed in 4 hotels in Lucern and this is the best value of all. Free breakfast with very nice selection & free internet and it worked excellent. I can's say that about some of the other hotel's that we stayed in on this trip.
very comfortable to be in a single room, free wireless internet no discount in their restaurant
International TV channels. I watched the amazing Wimbledon final match. Nice room.
Everything you need - friendly staff, a comfortable stay in a location with so much history, near restaurants, two steps from the lake.... A perfect stay!
Location in the heart of the old town is ideal. Breakfast is lovely. Very comfortable bed. Very noisy outside--church bells ring every 15 minutes throughout the night and yahoos yell. With windows closed it's pretty quiet but stuffy.
Wonderful location on Lake Luzern, centre of city, close to rail, great food and staff. Room extremely comfortable with large bed and lounge. Nothing, all good
The friendliness of the hotel, and size (small). Location was excellent The noise. Room 103 received a lot of noise from the stairwell, specially when there were a lot of people downstairs. Also a lot of smoking at the entry to hotel, when window was open, smoke came straight into the room.
The room was big, very clean and very comfortable. The location was awesome!! The shower was excelent. Noisy street, make sure you carry your ear plugs with you. NB: It was summer and I had to sleep with the windows open, otherwise it would be too hot inside. (34C outside)
Hotel was very central and easy to travel from. Also near the train station. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.
Near city center and a big room I have a room in another building near hotel one, like a private house with many rooms. They don't say nothing about this previosly
That it was very close to the city center and they let us keep our cars in the parking after the check out! Nothing at all!!
Convenient location High level of street noise with windows open.
5 minute walk from the train station Nice and helpful staff Good wifi Clean hotel and rooms Good value for money Room and bed were tiny Lobby is small Decor is slightly dated Not quite a boutique hotel A bit kitschy
good location It was noizy,as the room was facing the street.
The hotel staff was very helpful. There was a private garage for my motorcycle. The location is fantastic, just a half a block from the lake. Great view.
Location of the hotel is quite good. We had a very bad experience. The owner of the hotel seemed to be against babies, and she thought that baby food smells. So, she actually advised us against feeding the baby in the room so that the rooms do not smell.
Central location. Room was quite big for a family of 3. Friendly stuff speaking good english. Rooms facing the street are too noisy. You can even hear people talking on the streat at night. Isolation is very poor.
Decent breakfast, Larger room for 3 people, The hotel staff were very helpful Room was hot and did not have any air conditioning. When the window was open it was too noisy outside to sleep.
The Ambassador had a great location, right near the famous Lion Monument and easy walking distance from the old town.
great location, nice rooms, great service. nothing
Location is nice and but hotel staffs are too mechanical.
Great location, close to Old Town. Great breakfast, very helpful staff
Location, staff, size of room, wireless free access. The only comment is that it should be classified as 3 stars hotel instead of 4 stars.
The breakfast buffet and coffee machine were highlights. There was a lovely garden which would have been great if it was warmer. The staff were most helpful, providing updates on train schedules and restaurant recommendations. The location was great - the view spectacular. We had a room for 3 and there was more than enough space. There was nothing that we did not like.
The location was perfect and was close to the near by toursit attractions such as the lion monument, Chapel bridge. It Was also very close to the local train and bus station which was handy as we got the train from Zurich airport in to Lucern and were easily able to find the hotel. Over all the hotel provided good service and facilites and was definatley good value for money. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.
Convenient parking facilities Old fashioned design of room/bathroom
Clean, good location, friendly staff
We stayed there in 2006 so we knew the Hotel. Nice rooms and friendly staff. Expensive compared to other Hotels we stayed at.
Very good location near market area and near to lake, not too far from city train station. Several: promised Wi-fi was not working. The staff needed to be reminded everytime to refill finished items in the continental breakfast and everyday there was a curt "I don't have" for some basic item like slice bread or boiled eggs. The family room for 4 was too crowded.
room is clean, very good location ,the staff is very helpful. very small room and Poor breakfast
We found the location to be excellent; it really allowed us to see old town at our convenience, without having to either drive and park our car or take public transportation. The restauant, Lapin, was outstanding, with not only wonderful selections for eating but a great wine list (not extensive, but a great variety). This is a basic hotel, old with a lot of history. YES!!! We had to leave to continue our vacation.
5 minutes from Luzern railway station
Location Traffic can be very loud with an open window (no problem if closed), at least in a corner room
Home- like atmosphere.Small but clean room.Good breakfast.Free internet access in the lobby. Great location- walking distance to station, shops, museums and concert hall. The timings for room cleaning were irregular. One day they came too early in the morning and another day too late in the afternoon. Twice when I had the "Do not disturb" sign on the door they just left clean towels in the bag, instead of coming by later when the sign was not on the door.
The rooms were really clean - nice new furniture (we were in the Ambassadors part of the hotel). Staff very helpful to us and children (though did not see any other children staying there). Library shelves on each floor, where you can take a book and replace with one of your own - nice touch. Fantastic location just a couple of minutes from the Glacier garden, panorama and lion monument, and from the shops. Also a very short walk to the lake. We managed to walk to the station with heavy bags and children in about 15-20 mins. Not really - the breakfast did not have a hot option, and the room was a bit cramped, but all that was fine with us. Like everything in Switzerland, it was incredibly expensive, though.
Rooms are pretty large and clean. Situated in shopping district, 3 minutes from the lake and 10 minutes from the main station and convention center. Design is very easy, but everything you need for regular staying you may find. It seems that rooms were renovated a short time ago
the cleaniness and warmth of rooms. Very clean bathroom and bedsheets and fresh towels everyday... it is wat i like the most when i m travelling i would have liked to have bathroom shampoos and soaps...they didnt supply anything to wash with... nowdays its difficult to take liquid when travelling and soo we were stuck. we had to run to the nearest shops for it. maybe thats something thet should look into it
