The staff were all young and obliging very nice experience The rooms were not very comfortable with only only place to relax really bring the bed but I guess that's what you call funky!!
The central location, view of the Rhone River, nice room, great terrace, breakfast, and very professional and helpful staff. strange perfume smell to the room.
Loved the free snacks, breakfast, endless soft drinks/water. The rooms were cozy as well with really comfortable beds and pillows. Staff is also very friendly. The manager saw our big suitcase and gave us a bigger room, so we could be comfortable. I thought that was really nice, and he always had a smile on his face! The bathroom door was a little uncomfortable because it was heavy and wouldn't stay open, but that was a minor discomfort compared to everything else.
Nearness to Station
Front office staff kind enough to move us to a larger room and were helpful with other questions. Bed was comfortable. Very dingy hotel. Hallway carpets in need of replacement. Bathroom could use thorough cleaning - there was mold and mildew.
Location to the station and the new tram link to the airport. Good transport links also to the old town. The staff let us leave our bags in the store room all day til our departure for the airport. Looks to be smart as you cross over from the station but actually is quite tatty with dangerous crumbling tiles in the brreakfast room. We also didn't like that inter-communicating door to the next room which although locked you can hear everything. Our room door was open on our return from breakfast with all our valubles in sight and yet the cleaner was in another room.
proximity to lyon & station
Ideal for a rugby trip - hotel has everything needed for such a visit - good breakfast, comfortable room and helpful friendly staff. We thought that the Manageress was outstanding; hard working, highly efficient in every department, very communicative with guests, and being so stunningly attractive was an added bonus!
very good in general
Location. Value for money. There was a small spider in the bathroom. The room didn't have a minibar.
location is great, right behind Lyon train station, can be accessed from the back door exit of train station. the room is quiet. i wish the luggage storage room can be more secured. it seemed that anyone could access it. i wish the hotel staff could monitor or have better control of luggage storage room. also, the room carpet looked quite old.
The park of the hotel, the calm all over the hotel despite the fact that the hotel is just in front of the railway station.it was very clean and the staff very kindly.
The location is very nice and room is clean and neatness。 Reception staff
The concierge, Gerard, is a wonderful asset to the hotel. All staff were very friendly [ which is essential ] and efficient. The room is very compact and the mezzanine bedroom very hot and stuffy with inadequate air-conditioning.
Location in Vieux Lyon. Hotel does not live up to the expectations raised on the web-site. Our room did not have the level of comfort that one would expect for a four star hotel. Charging 50 euro's for breakfast is expensive.
I went there for business, so I would have preferred free 24hr internet access.
The extremely helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant staff. The beautiful public spaces. No listing of available TV channels. No wall bracket for shower, making hands-free use impossible.
Beautiful hotel with great staff in good location While we loved this hotel customers who like modern minimilist/ functional designed buildings probably would not.
Service was Exceptional Unreal Restaurant Romantic Great bar and Lounge English a non-issue (if you don't speak French) Very Comfortable Room was a bit small and shower/tub was quirky but to be expected being used to American Hotels.
Interesting room layout, luxury feel and excellent location in the old town. Attentive staff. Nothing comes to mind.
Location and ambiance The bathroom shower
The hotel is well located. The large open halls are beautiful. n some ways it is a strange hotel. Is it a spa-hotel? No not really.
Convenient to tourist area and ambience
It is really difficult to find if you arrive by car, clearer instructions required in advance. We also thought that the superior room we had was very small and very dark and the windows overlooked a walkway!
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The accommodation was very comfortable and the location was excellent, as it was in easy walking distance of the old city of Lyon. It would have been nice to have had a little bar in the hotel, where one could get a coffee or a drink beyond breakfast times.
Centric, one block from the river, 15 minutes walk from the train station. David, from front desk, very helpful with restaurant recommendations and places to go. Room clean and spacious. first day the internet connection was ok, second day impossible to connect, but once reported worked better that fist day (we did mentioned that we were using iPhones)
No free parking for clients of hotel
The hotel was well located, High price of the breakfeast.
Very convenient to public transportation, and also within a pleasant-walk-distance to the city center. Very quiet and well-appointed room.
I recommend this Hotel for someone who want to stay in convenient location in Lyon with reasonable price.
The staff were extremely nice, the bedroom was nicely decorated and clean and the bathroom was spacious. Also the breakfast was tasty and the internet worked fine. There was nothing that I didn´t like.
The rooms were modern and clean, I had an issue with dry cleaning and they dealt with it professionally The front reception area could be modernized
The hotel is well located, the price is nice for what it offers, rooms are quite big and quite comfortable. The elevator is terribly slow, the parking in the hotel is out of order.
The hotel has a very good location, right next to the river, and is modern and comfortable. Ridiculously overpriced breakfast and use of internet in lobby.
Location & room
The very courteous and caring concierges at the door on arrival unloading the car, taking care of the luggage diligently and assuring that the car would be parked securley and safely.
Helpful staff Having to pay a €20 supplement for a river - facing view
really pleasant staff and magnificiant lobby. great location for shopping in this nice city. really clean rooms. bedrooms could need a little style refreshment.
Really good in every terms. I am thinking to go there again i the near future
the room, 716, was under the restaurant, and very very noisy until 1 o clock in the morning.
Very handy for walking and within the areas of interest and to Gare Perrache (railway station).Sofitel is above average standard and within expectation for a good four star hotel. Hotel bistro was very good indeed. The breakfast view area over the city was excellent however the prepared fruit selection and sometimes quality was not as good as expected though still overall breakfast very good.
Hotel staff is really excellent. The beds are incredible, never seen something like that. Good location. Nothing.
There was renovation work in the hotel. We could mot sleep because of the noise .That is why we have stayed only one night instead of 10 nights
Hotel staff was great! Run down, dirty room with worn furniture, mildew in shower. Not at all up to Sofitel standards
The nice view of the bar on the 8th floor
Very attent personnel, excellent panaramic view on the city at breakfast and bar. Even at breakfast, i was being served pasteries and coffee without having to stand up...excellent service. no welnesscenter to relax after a busy working day.
Proximity to the city centre, all shops and sights within easy walking distance. Spacious room. Quiet, room was at the back of the hotel so no nuisance from traffic noise. Not really any negative points except to say some might find the choice at breakfast limited, and might not appreciate to have a room with no view. But then one doesn't go to Lyon to stay in the hotel all day!
great location. Perfect for exploring lyon!
location and a very large bed ,our room was on a corner so we had great views carpet very worn on stairs, and the price of breakfast a bit high.
Central location and friendly staff. The bed could have been a bit more comfortable.
The Location, the staff, the room, the price The street is loud at night, so remember earplugs
Location. Good bathroom facilities. Helpful staff. Lift was temperamental. Carpet getting shabby.
excellent central location gave easy walking access to most tourist sites
We stayed only one night and it was perfect! We loved the location. Parking is 200mts far from the Hotel. Very clean. Quite big rooms. Toilett separated from the shower and sink. Bathroom stuff complete (shampoo, aconditioner etc). The staff speaks english. Stairs carpets a little bit old.
Location is excellent and gives the possibility to investigate the old Lyon. Hotel is also close to metro
Cool bedroom are a must, these were good
Simply Staff and Spa Renovations on the outside gave a bad 1st impression.
I enjoyed the sauna, hot tube and swimming pool to relax. The beds were too firm
Hotel had good breakfasts, although needed to clarify breakfast included. Bar prices on high side - overall staff friendly & spa facilities very good.
The spa is lovely and the staff were really very helpful. Full marks to the staff. Room clean, but it is all a little dated. It is a 15 minute bus ride in to Old Lyon, and the buses are not very frequent (hotel has a timetable). Coming back on the late bus not very pleasant! We didn't take our car, but there are car parking charges (I believe) which seem unjustified given the distance from town.
Great indoor swimming pool; heated whirl pool area outside can also be used in winter - very special! Limited opening time of pool area at weekends. No minibar in the room, neither tea/coffee maker.
we liked the overall facilities, especially the pool & spa. at the price we paid per night we expected tea / coffee facilities in the room. also the breakfast was expensive at 18 euros per person. if this had been included in the room-rate this hotel would have a much higher rating.
Facilities particularly the pool/spa Hotel a little dated from the exterior
Good wellness activities with nice and relaxing atmosphere no
Not much There was suppose to be air conditioning in the rooms, but there was not working a/c. Also, the rooms were dirty and smelled.
The spa the staff is not always available, no card in the room for the room service and just a few meals available on the card I had to ask for at the reception.
Ok location I booked a king bed room, got a room w 2 twin beds. They didnt do much, saying the bed type is a preference not a guarantee. Hotel is old and rooms are falling apart. Everything is last touched in 70s.
Value Needs more or better bed pillows
Junior suite; plenty of space. Extra bed ready for our son upon arrival (late evening). Very good restaurant. Music on the hotel corridor OK but should be quiter in order not to disturb you sleeping time
Size of Junior suite Right next to the beautiful Parc Tete d'or Quiet Kitchen poorly equipped. One small saucepan, one small frying pan, no lids. Also no cleaning cloth or detergent, tea-towel etc Breakfast poor value at 19 euro
helpfullness of the staff
rude and very nasty. the staff where rude racist and disgusting.and not at all helpfull.
Size of room No new coffee or tea on 2nd day
We loved the decor in the hotel especially the bar which is spectacular. Although we had booked a superior room we were given the smallest, most out of the way room in the hotel. The attitude of the hotel staff was far from helpful or friendly.
I wonder why for 2 consecutive days, the shampoo and soap were not replaced. I needed to ask them before I can have it.
The staff were helpful beyond expectation. The location is fantastic. We had a corner room and the view from every window was stunning. The decor is very stylish and the hotel has wonderful little rooms to sit and enjoy tea/cpfee or just to read or chat. nothing
The hotel is well located and is excellent.
I stayed at hotel with a friend of mine. I had given my credit card information when I booked a room (16th of Nov.). We were asked to pay at information desk at hotel and my friend paid by her credit card. When I checked my credit card payment I saw that the room rate of 340 Euro was also taken from me. I have written to the hotel and waiting for reply.
Staff was great and very accomidating Keyed lock to room was difficult to operate for my wife.
Comfortable, welcolming, clean, proximity to great sites and restaurants in Lyon I resent paying extra for wi fi!
Excellent room accomations. Outstanding decor. Pleasant staf. No.
I was supprized that my reservation was canceeled when I arrived, but I maneged to find another one
The room was beautiful, the bed was incredibly comfy, and the rest of the hotel was lovely too. Staff are very friendly and the location is brilliant - perfect for a city break.
Staff were extremely helpful and the facilities excellent. We were travelling with a toddler and really appreciated the welcome we and our toddler received.
i like the bathroom it was clean and bright so far nothing much
Good service, good staff, clean rooms, nice bathroom Only one elevator worked, the parking spaces are very small
The room had a very modern bathroom. It was extremely quiet. Great food and comfort through roomservice The internet which was featured as an option on the in room entertainment system did not work.
The best aspect of the hotel is the close proximity to the Tony Garnier concert hall. We specifically chose this hotel to ensure that we had no problems about transport, etc to attend a concert. 1. Same exact breakfast served every day - possiby some slight variation/choice would be welcome. 2. Basic detail/brochures on use of metro or Lyon attractions is lacking - example hotel could have a display stand with local attractions & metro routes.
Nice bathroom Not so good location
Nice staff ! Room service trays was left outside the room for 24 hours!!
Pool is great, though door was ahrd to open. I had the biggest bed ever Staff was not very nice, I had the feeling she felt she was superior to everyones else... If you do not go with the car, hotel is in a residential area, far from city center
Location is handy to go to the city with Metro. Nice parking place, excellent room price of parking car is a little high
Great value for your money It might be a bit far from the city centre
large space clean rooms
Daytime staff very efficient; nighttime crew not intelligent or helpful. Room in good condition except for the bathroom counter top. Location is very good - especially if one is in Lyon on business. Nighttime crew not intelligent or helpful. They had my room registered under my first name so visiting friends couldn't find me! Countertop in bathroom was disintegrating and basically disgusting. Shower excellent, however! Comfortable, large bed.
Position in Lyon, pleasant room and staff
It was easy to find using our gps and the lobby area was beautiful. The room service was also acceptable. We were given a broken bed to sleep on and when we climbed into bed that evening were too tired to call for changes. When we reported it the next day, there was no compensation or any way to make up for this. Even tho' we put in our request for our car to be brought around and was told that it only took 15 minutes for it to happen, we had to wait for over 40 since there was some mix up. Generally, this was the only disappointment in our entire trip of staying in hotels in Europe.
Good, polite service, room cleanliness, general freshness. Some cracks around the washbasin.
The hotel room was massive with a huge bed for us. Comfortable and reliable, good location to many great restaurants across the river. Stayed an additional night and room charge was matched...:) Wifi was not working, room service was not of quality.
Good location near town center, with average price. Breakfast was good and evening staff was helpfull (we arrived late but helped for restaurant, provided iron table as needed...). It is an hotel more appropriate for business trips as not specialy charming and located in a business aera.
bathrooms need updating - they look old and worn out
location. size of bedroom very old furniture and old bathroom
We booked Hotel Athena because we needed accommodation as close to the train station as possible. For this purpose the hotel was excellent. The staff were not friendly - we asked whether or not the lady knew of a good place to eat close by and she gave us no advice at all.
being close to the train station Woman at the front desk wasn't very nice, toilet and bathroom could be cleaner.
location... room was ok, staffs are good and responsive... the first room I checked in was not really a non-smoking room (smelled like someone just smoked there) they switched me to another room immediately...
This is the worst hotel among hotels I experienced. Especially, service staff is totally mess. I could got just one towel even though we are couple.
Excellent location Breakfeast good prize/performance ratio Kind staff Some renovation might become necessary soon, I.E. to remove some smell of cleasing agents and to avoid I.E. rain damage.
nice staff good service expensive for the quality. we had to change rooms because of odor
They must put a curtain in the bathtop, it s very hard to take a shower when the water is spilling on the floor.
Location is good, right next to the Part Dieu railway station. Our room was quiet, a good base for a city break.
Location is good; very close to the main transportation facities. Bathroom was very dirty. I didn't have the courage to touch the towels.
The location is perfect. As it near all transportations & shopping center . The bed in the standard double room was too small for two persons.
convenient position, friendly staff & cheap room slightly below par on cleanliness
the toilet are se far from room :)
Good location. The bathroom did not have a door. We were travelling with older children, so it was very uncomfortable. The room was quite shabby, and the door looked like it had been knocked down in the past. The bathroom and the room floor looked unclean probably due to its age. The parking fee of 20 Euros looked a beet steep. Please avoid this hotel if you can.
Staff was very kind and helpful. Room was smaller than expected. 2 people cannot share a full size bed. Things you expect to receive (shampoo, soap, etc.) were missing.
The comfort of the room Not having a lift
The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Especially the guy who worked there on my second night's stay. He had excellant English. He provided me with the dial out code I needed to phone home to my country of origin. It is a good location just 5 min walk form Gare de Perrache. Having to remember 4 digit code. An electronic key-card might have been more preferable.
size of the rooms, secure parking very poor air circulation in the building causing unpleasant smell and poor first impression until you open all the windows in your room and keep them open all the time. Hard to imagine staying there during cold season.
The room was sunny and clean No elevators and I was on the 5th floor, no shampoo in the room, No internet
I like its location most. no
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Friendly and helpful staff. Location is a 10 minute walk to the Hotel de ville. Underground parking, Parking involves driving round the block to the back of the building and then its a pretty tight squeeze to enter/exit. Then its a rather ungainly entrance into the lobby. Bathroom got pretty damp after a shower and I'd recommend better ventilation.
Checking in and out was a bit too long
Excellent location for exploring the city - non-tourist area - parking facilities - excellent staff - comfortable bed - we have not had breakfast in the hotel (fabulos pàtisserie just in front of) easy to find (we arrived from Eurexpo) It would be appreciated to have linens (sheeets) provided as well as duvets
Listening to jazz during my breakfast! And the decoration with nice old pictures on the walls.
Location, ambiance, kindness of staff... No
wonderful staff, great WiFi quality and speed. overall very nice
good location, nice room the room was too cold, heating apparently did not work properly. Was the case with 2 other colleagues as well.
Comfortable room, good breakfast, prompt taxi
Within walking distance of both the conference center (30min; also near a bus that goes there) and the restaurant areas (15min), near several transportation lines, clean and comfortable. Free wifi. 24h reception. Nothing stood out.
Cleaneliness of the room and comfort. Location near the train station Part Dieu and city center. Walls of the room were not enough thick. Could hear the neighbours.
Very charming hotel, in the old French style of the city of lyon, located in the mere center of the city. Very confortable and spacious room. The staff was very welcomed and helpfull with any of uour request.Excellent breakfast in a beautifully decorated room.
Very good location for the tourist with easy access shops, rivers etc. Breakfast was disapointing. Although served until 10:30, food wasn't replenished after 09:45. Minor point. Also, due to holidays, there was no bar in the hotel.
The suits are very spacious and well-decorated. Nice views from the rooms. Very nice old lift. Someone forgot a jacket in our room and it was also lot of web on balcony.
Hotel person is very kind.
Very good location, just in the heart of Lyon. Staff was quite good and professional. This charming Hotel, besides it's an ancient bulding, give us all the comodities needed, with the "french glamour".
Perfect location, excellent view (junior suite, the corner of the building), nice and helpfull personnel (special thanks to Zhanna!) The only thing (but not too importaint!) - when you step on the floor it makes a wooden sound, probably there's an old wood under the carpet.
The hotel reception staff and the room were lovely.
Excellent location right in the center of the shopping district, friendly staff, charming decor, excellent breakfast, quiet room, updated bathroom. The bathtub could have been cleaned a bit better, and for some strange reason - perhaps cultural - there was no shower curtain provided, making a shower a rather wet affair.
Excellent central location
Excellent location, friendly staff, good breakfast, very nice room with excellent bed.
Location was excellent for the sightseeing and resturants There was a lack of convienence shops in the area for provisions and also the arrangements for cleaning were unclear. Studio rooms were very small.
location was great. It has a small kitchen and a nice bath Bed was in a sleep sofa. Not quite as comfortable as a standard mattress, but was acceptable. Room was not serviced daily
The hotel was very central with easy access to shopping and the historical sites. The hotel was self contained and was very well equiped. Some minor maintenance issues (shower head can not be adjusted from waist height, towel drying rack is coming off the wall and instructions for dishwasher/griller etc only in French)
Lyon is an amazing city. The apartment was in a great location in terms of the shopping district, the sites and there are two underground stops not far away. The apartment was spacious and well equipped. There were mosquitos, which was awful!Make sure to come with anti-mosquito sprays. Also the apartment looks over a very busy and very noisy bar/pub area which made it really difficult to sleep.Though the windows are doubleglazed etc. In Summer, I could imagine it being unbearably warm.
The location was very good with many restaurants and shops nearby. Our apartment overlooked a noisy square, so we were worried about being able to sleep, but the hotel had double layered windows, which completely blocked out the noise. The hotel had on-site parking, which was a major plus, but accessing the garage was very difficult. We had to navigate tight turns though a pedestrian area, and the remote didn't work on more than one occasion.
Nice room, LCD tv set, the staff was all right. You have to walk at least 10 minutes to find a subway station.
The location of this hotel is surperb. On a cobbled street in the dining & partying district, this is a great spot! Kids will scream past your windows at 4 am but that that's what you came here for..right...? Situated on the Pres'quile everything is at your doorstep: clothes, food, transportation... etc. Front desk was very helpful and gave us a map we used despite the tourism office's map. Surprised to find the couch was our bed (fold-out). And stricter renting rules than Switzerland (ie pay up front, nobody collects your garbage). but location was worth it. Charming hotel in a very desirable area. Great value for money.
It's in the best location and neighbourhood it could ever be, good to have a microwave with grill, dishwasher, ironing machine, rooms are spacious enough even for the studios. There is no vacuum cleaner or any other cleaning instrument to clean your room, as they don't do it if you are staying less than a week, Slow elevators are an issue, there is no A/C in the rooms, Rooms are clean but really old, its time for a renewal for the hotel
location excelent, comfort good, large space per suite, good matresses, very polite staff, good and very usefull room facilites, free internet in reception lobby, problems with ventilation in the common lobbies , toilet and bathroom but not very annoing, need maybe an airconditioning system
1) Nicely equipped kitchenette just buy your oil, salt, sugar than u have everything to cook 2) Superb location 1) Slow elevators, if you don't wanna waste your time stay in lower flats 2) In summer lots of noise coming from the street, as it is very busy, no air condition so you have to open the windows and run the fan 3) Old furniture, worn out 4) Only cable internet however its relatively fast er than wifi 5) Once in a week cleaning isn't good
