10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you need a place to take a deep breath and relax, Simpson House Inn is it. From our personal greeting when we arrived until we said good-bye, the friendly staff catered to our every need. Hedges surround the secluded Victorian home making it a true get-away. The room was beautifully decorated with antiques, meticulously clean, and very comfortable. The pillows and bedding were first-class and made for an excellent night’s sleep. The complimentary Kiehl’s bath and body products made getting clean delightful. At our romantic table for two on the veranda we were served amazing vegetarian breakfasts (banana pancakes were my favorite) on cherished family china. In the afternoon, we enjoyed a few too many of the fresh-baked cookies. The evening Hors d’oeuvres were truly delectable. We like good food – and we were not disappointed! In-between eating, we spent time sitting in the beautiful garden, listening to the soothing fountain, and admiring the sprawling Oak Tree. We strolled downtown, walked through nearby parks, visited a museum, and drove to Solvang. Our stay was a trip back in time, yet with all of the modern comforts – including Wi-Fi, television and a mini-fridge. Thank you Simpson House for the perfect vacation.

8.3 Excellent
Cons: Good staff very helpful
5.0 Okay
Pros: The site was very beautiful and with the addition of the location being right at the center of downtown, it could not have been better. With that being said, it still doesn’t make up for the lack of service we received from the staff.
Cons: The staff was rude and nonchalant. Checking in was much more difficult than it should have been. There was a lot going on and if staff can’t handle the busy aspect of the hotel then they either have to hire more staff or completely new staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet, comfortable and beautiful property, with friendly staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great!!!
10.0 Excellent

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice accommodations and a large room! Fabian et al at the front desk were extremely helpful and friendly. Thomas has a great crew. The grounds were very tidy and the “mission “ feel was just right.
Cons: Happy hour could have been a little more substantial, however the wine was very good and priced about right.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Got upgrade to master suite at a very reasonable cost. Absolutely love everything from room, to shampoo, to bath robe, to breakfast~highly recommend~~
7.0 Good
Pros: We liked the Spanish architecture. The staff was nice and the room was large and comfortable.
Cons: First night there was no parking in the building. The garden part of our stay was lacking. Many of the plants were in need of attention and repotting. The plant on our balcony was nearly dead from lack of watering. The artwork was not very pleasing and there were too many paintings by the same water color artist. The paintings were not hung well in the room (too close together and of different sizes). The experience was definitely not with the $440 a night charge we paid. Would not stay here again.

6.8 Good
Pros: LOCATION, close walk to warf and beach. Good parking lot. GREAT staff. Breakfast was better cared for than average (well supplied), with nice outdoor seating space.
Cons: Moldy rug (not uncommon in beach motel), suggest some wood or tile floors. Small space, especially for the price (early July holiday price $350 for a room that should be under $200). No ocean view etc. Location, location, location.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Awesome staff, great breakfast, excellent location.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was easy to access although it didn't start early enough. They had a nice selection of tea and I had a bagel which I toasted and added peanut butter and banana to I wasn't impressed with the bagel or choices of bagels. Although you had yogurt you did not have any greek yogurt. We did enjoy sitting outside playing cribbage and reading in the evening.
Cons: See above regarding the breakfast time and selection
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Service and friendliness from staff was fantastic.! Location, continental breakfast and landscape support a superb rating. Patrons may utilize their bicycles for additional fun around town. The setting allows you to meet a vast numbers of happy travelers.
Cons: The room was small and got smaller with the addition of our dog. The bathroom was updated but the pedestal sink didn’t give patrons room to layout toiletries. Recommend using an easy foldout table (placed near sink and wall) that could straddle the toilet and provide a place for needed items. There is no pool but the positives far outweigh any deficiencies.
6.8 Good
Pros: Close to beach
Cons: Rooms were tiny!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Don't eat the breakfast

Cons: I will definitely stay here again, and tell everyone about this place. There was nothing to complain about - I wish I had more room to brag further! I also really appreciated that it was all single level, nobody above and all had kitchenettes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very dog friendly, nice, quiet, location, adequate continental breakfast, easy walk to pier.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Lovely hotel and a great location with a wonderful view of the ocean. A delightful room with a large balcony to relax and see the world. Large lovely bathroom with tub and separate shower. Most of the staff were delightful and very helpful.
Cons: Breakfast was well presented but only a continental breakfast; they had no protein items like eggs, meat or hard-boiled eggs. Except milk and yogurt if you count that. Only valet parking was available which is a bit expensive at $23 a day.
9.7 Excellent
Cons: Lovely hotel, perfect location, large rooms, loved every minute of it. One constructive comment would be to add a full length mirror in the rooms...

Cons: The noice in the bathroom At least half view to the ocean Closer to the elevator I use a cane
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nothing
Cons: All
6.8 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast Buffet was a complete joke, as store bought bagels were still slightly frozen and selection was severely lacking. Plus since we had three rooms, I asked if we could get a late checkout in just one room, so we could stroll along waterfront. Immediate response was no without checking with any of her supervisors to see if they could accommodate my request. SO SAD when a hotel is blessed with a great location and quality construction and yet is staffed by indifferent millennials who have no clue on what makes a hotel great.

Pros: The bathroom and spa tub were just amazing! The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. And the staff were beyond nice and friendly!

Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Liked the apartment like setting and outside entrance. Worked well for an active toddler!
Cons: Pool was cold.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is a darling inn - gorgeous architecture, thoughtful amenities (not only a deluxe continental breakfast, but afternoon snacks and evening cookies are served; board games, movie and bike rentals). There are several seating areas to relax. It is very close to the 101 and next to a gas station but the room was quiet. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. While it was a romantic getaway, I would love to come back and stay with my young kids.
Cons: There wasn’t enough parking. The pool is very small and surprisingly deep (8 feet!) but it was clean and nice. I didn’t love the music blasting, vaping couple that was at the pool at the same time as us. (Clearly not the hotel’s fault but it did dampen my experience.) There was also only 4 pool loungers and they were all in use.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff - especially front desk!

Pros: Amazing staff and hospitality, with a fantastic breakfast, and great afternoon cakes and wine and cheese. A lovely hotel - very cosy, and nicely decorated. The location is quite far from the pier front, but it is in a quite neighbourhood , and is about 10 mins walk from the bus stop that takes you downtown. Walkable (30 mins) from the Mission and also the CourtHouse. We really enjoyed our stay.
Cons: Quite pricey hotel, but seems to be in line with other hotels, and we received great service for it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice and clean room. In the afternoon very delicious self-made cake is offered. In the evening you can have some wine and cheese. The breakfast is also very nice with quiche and some fresh fruits.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff was excellent and so friendly! They were helpful and so accommodating. The house is pretty and the outside deck behind the house is beautiful. There was ice, water and tea/ coffee —so nice! Thanks for the use of the beach towels!
Cons: Maybe add jelly in small containers for those who like toast.
6.0 Good
Pros: The staff was great. Nice welcoming and gave tour of room with notice I'd been upgraded to a room with a king sized bed. Breakfast was very good. Also was nice to be asked about any food allergies or preferences. Clean but old (not a surprise).
Cons: Other reviewers spot on. Staff was outstanding, but it is staying in grandma's house. "Off" atmosphere & odd music playing. Tiny bathroom-shower is 24"x24" with sink outside. Pillows are foam. Pricey for what you get. Wanted to like but I expected more.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent. The location is quite suitable to getting to the main part of town since it is within walking distance to the main street and from there accessible to transportation to the beach area.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding breakfasts and every night there’s delicious assortment of cakes and cookies.
6.8 Good
Pros: The breakfast was very good. The portions were more than enough. We could not finish it. The staff was very nice. I liked the location in town as well.
Cons: We stayed in the Jacaranda room. Although we really liked it's location in the back, very private with it's own entrance, it was a handicapped room and the shower floor/footprint in the bathroom was most of the bathroom itself. The drain for the shower moved off its footing when taking a shower. It was a bit awkward. Also the bed was not really big for my husband and I. I did not sleep well. The room was a bit small. I did not feel that this room was worth the money I spent for the two nights. But, I we do come to Santa Barbara often and any place on the weekend is expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room and facilities were clean. There was ample parking. Hot breakfast and snacks offered at tea-time we’re delicious.

Pros: Location
Cons: Bugs in the shower, not given the view we were told, Their in-house Spa cancelled on us the day of and we had to scramble to find services. Complained to the front desk to give them a chance to correct our experience and they were of little help.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: location was beyond fabulous... and there was one staff member that was also beyond fabulous.. We give him a 10 out of 10 rating as a caring person who knows how to get things done and took care of a CHECK IN issue.
Cons: confusion at front desk at our arrival... but it was cleared up by staff member ... so there is really not much we can say this is negative...

Pros: Business center Gym, Tub plus shower in the room
Cons: Gym needs a fan or two for the hot afternoons
1.0 Poor
Pros: The location was great with a beautiful view. Easy access to the pier, the beach, restaurants and shopping.
Cons: There were ants in the room and my 9 year old son was able to lock himself in the bathroom. He almost broke down the door trying to get out. The people at the front desk didn't seem to care about any of our requests. We have triple A they didn't take it

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome location. Bike rental shop, Funk Zone, Wharf, State Street and the Harbor were right there. Room was better than expected.
Cons: The moat/drainage ditch around the property was pretty stagnant, nasty, and unappealing. Would add alot to the property if it were cleaned up or had moving water with fountains.

Pros: Perfect location, friendly staff and nice room.
Cons: You can’t swim in the ocean unless you like to get muddy and mossy.

Cons: Room was too cramped with pullout couch. Take out some of the.furniture Sink had a very slow drain. Sheets were stained.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location, staff really friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable and spacious and good amenities. we are a family of four and all had plenty of room even with four large suitcases. Continental breakfast was also good. Would definitely stay here again
Cons: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location and free parking.
Cons: Reservation said breakfast included but there weren't any facilities for this apart from a coffee machine in reception and no mention of breakfast when we checked in
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location to the beach
Cons: Old (plastic wrapped) muffins for breakfast. Rate drop of over $100 and would not pass along any of the discount.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location not far from the beach, very comfortable and nicely sized room. Quite and clean.
Cons: If you’re expecting your breakfast to be anything American sized be aware that it won’t. You’ll have the option of Choi’s g between few pastries and coffee or tea and that’s it. No dining room means you have to eat in your room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was very nice. Bathroom and room were nicely decorated and everything was clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was nice too! Staff was friendly and location was great! We walked to dinner and to shopping.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: great place to stay, close to the pier, confy and clean
6.3 Good
Pros: Location; room spacious and clean
Cons: "Breakfast included" at Castillo Inn means: You can grab prepackaged food from a fridge and coffee and take it to your room. There is just no place to sit other than two leather chairs in front of the desk. Recommend to look out for places in Santa Barbara fulfilling the promises on the booking confirmation, eg the Lavender Inn a few blocks up the street.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: For a spontaneous girls trip, we chose the suite, which included a living room, kitchen, bathroom and 2 bedrooms. Each room had a super quiet air conditioner, which was important in the heat of July. The beds (and linens) were super comfy! It was a short drive to Santa Barbara attractions, but since we were there to relax that worked fine for us. The hotel is 32 rooms and all on one floor, which is perfect for anyone with mobility issues that struggle with stairs.
Cons: What’s not to like?
8.3 Excellent
Pros: -Great location -free parking on site -Room with AC -very clean -there’s a water filter in the room -Ice machine in the property
Cons: -bed wasn’t very comfortable -Staff was efficient but could be more welcoming

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great bed and breakfast. Loved the garden and property. The room was very comfortable. But the breakfast was something spectacular. Very European!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Domninque the Inn Keeper and Alex were accommodating from the start. When requested a bigger room she had one available immediatley. The room was quaint with a small woodburning stove, claw tub and inclosed small sitting area and two beds. The breakfast was wonderful, with fresh baked croissants, lemon bread, fresh fruit and more. The walk over to State St. was very doable. Ate at Carlitos our local favorite. Oh and don’t let me forget the beautiful grounds with plenty of sitting space.
Cons: Not that we didn’t like the first room but it was too small for us and right off the entry in the main house which was in the booking info. But Dominique quickly took us and offered us a secluded room in the gardens.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were greeted with a lovely welcome and given details of things to do, places to eat etc. We were then shown to our garden cottage which was full of character. The next morning we were provided with an excellent breakfast with options for all. We had breakfast in the garden along with other guests and it was fantastic. We were made feel right at home. A great find and would stay again.

Pros: The character & staff
Cons: Loved everything
5.8 Okay
Pros: Lovely old hotel. The restaurant was very nice. Didn't eat there because of a power outage. It was closed. The staff was young, very friendly and helpful. I think we were there at a bad time. Room could have been cleaner
5.0 Okay
Pros: The bed.
Cons: Very small room poor service way overpriced hidden charges not worth the money at all .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was fantastic and the staff exceeded expectations.
Cons: Nothing!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very accommodating, knowledgable and kind.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Beautiful space, great location
Cons: Could not sleep because the internal ceiling fan broke in the bathroom and kept making a whirring/clicking sound all night. When I told the front desk in the morning, they said all they could do was refund the facility fee. Not acceptable.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The beautiful four-poster bed and other room decor were lovely. The staff was always there to help — never had to wait, and they were very kind and friendly toward my dog always.
Cons: The website misrepresented what was available in a way — for example for morning coffee there was a picture of a beautiful latte, but it turned out to be just big canisters for self serve. The bathtub on the site was free standing and deep, but at the hotel was just an ordinary tub. The pool was also only three feet deep, so better for children than adults.
6.8 Good
Pros: Bed. Coffee facility.
Cons: Full sized bath. Too noisy overlooking entrance. Breakfast restaurant was unacceptably poor - treated like an outside customer who hasn’t made a reservation. Gave up and went elsewhere. Choice of healthy breakfast options also poor. Undermined whole impression of the hotel.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast good and great cocktail bar.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff was exceptional and the location was perfect. We are at the restaurant and the food was excellent!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good price for value because of the unique features. The native artistry of the mosaic walls, gorgeous furniture coupled with the top floor pool with panoramic views creates a beautiful experience. Where can you find these features of a hotel to compare? Not to mention an excellent bar restaurant on the first floor providing even more for a hotel guest so I definitely recommend Kimpton Canary of Santa Barbara.
Cons: A partial view of the parking lot was a bit of downer, but did have a city view. Honestly, there is not much to see from the balconies of this hotel. If I paid more for the Juliet Balconies, then I would experience the intersection with a better city view. Mixed feelings if it is worth it . . . Difficult to stay inside a hotel room in Santa Barbara because there is so much to offer outside!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was really friendly and the beds were soft! I love the location of The Canary, as well!
Cons: I was sick the whole trip but other than that, I have no complaints.

Downtown Santa Barbara is 15 minutes on a local bus either no 14 or 20 and costs $ 1.75 per person. When we visited in early August there was a festival on which had great atmosphere and live music.
