Pros: The grounds were gorgeous. The hot tub was relaxing and romantic. The accommodations were comfortable and homelike. The breakfast of nutbread tropical fruit and juice was delicious. But the best thing about our stay was how much the hosts Garret and Sandy went out of their way to help us. All their recommendations regarding places to eat and things to do were spot on. They even went so far as to set up a special wifi connection so we could stream a movie in our cottage. Super excellent.
Cons: No complaints.

Pros: Beautiful house in the middle of a fern forest. Very clean and quiet. It is at the end of the road, but not so far from the main road. Very nice hostess.
Pros: The location in Volcano was perfect. The owner welcomed us, had great suggestions, and was very friendly. Overall very warm and accommodating.
Pros: Amazing hosts and proximity to the volcano! Staying here is a must - I wish we could have stayed longer! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful place. It's in the 'country' so there are no neighbors to worry about! And it is gated!!!
Cons: The house is literally at the end of the road (which I did like because it is away from crowded cities) but the maps stopped before the road did. You have to drive all the way down a tiny one lane road. A little creepy at night.
It is a good location near to Volcano and room is really good and comfortable, Hosts are really friendly and helpful.
Pros: Good room quality and hosting.

The location is unique within this rain forest. There are flowers all over. The hostess and her neighbor were very friendly and when we left after one week we had the impression that we were leaving friends.
Pros: The hostess goes out of her way to please and help her guests. The rooms very clean with fresh orchids. Breakfast very healthy with fresh home grown products. I gave her my laundry and she did it within the day (extra charge, which is OK for me)
Cons: We were very pleased with the accommodation and service. The unpaved road was a little rough but we drove carefully with our regular car and made it even after strong rain.
Irene was a great host, very relaxing atmosphere.
Pros: Rural setting. Nice well kept estate surrounded by rain forest.
Cons: Finding the Lava Tree state park sign at night is difficult. Restaurants and amenities are a few miles distant.
Lava Tree Tropic Inn offers an airport shuttle (available on request) for USD 72.00 per room one way. Free perks include WiFi, valet parking, and continental breakfast available daily. Other highlights include a terrace and a garden.
Pros: Location is very close to Volcano National Park. Staff was friendly.
Cons: The bed is very worn out and uncomfortable. Whole place is outdated. As there are very few accommodations in the area they have no reason to improve and it shows. It isn't run down but it isn't nice either.
Pros: Great room, friendly staff - Dan and Nikki were very kind and efficient. Breakfast portions were just right. Quick access to the park.( Also, Ohelo's restaurant right down the street was great for lunch and dinner.)
Cons: Wish the driveway were better. We almost didn't want to drive in at first, but once you're in front of the house it's beautiful.

Guests looking to stay active can check out the nearby hiking/biking trails, and free perks include WiFi, self parking, and continental breakfast daily between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM. Rooms offer lanais, DVD players, and refrigerators.
Cons: It was very close to the airport which is convinent for travelers, our suite didn't have waterfront view but has a nice tropical garden view to it. Over all it was very nice, but I wish they would have more small appliances inside the rooms such as microwaves.
Cons: cockroach in room and bedbug bites on my legs
Pros: It was a very clean hotel room. Comfortable settings.
Cons: I did not see anything that I did not like.
Pros: Nice staff
Pros: The really nice and welcoming greeting of aloha from the tall young man at the front desk. I wish I could remember his name, I believe it was a hawaiian name, he really made my stay as well as my other family members rooming on different floors right at home.
Cons: Lack of parking spaces, and longer valet service.
Pros: The staff was nice. The room just o.k.
Cons: The room was tiny and for the price was a bit of a rip off. The balcony didn't lock. One of the smallest rooms I've stayed in and the bathroom reminded me of a hotel 6.
Pros: The food at the restaurant was good.
Cons: There were too many cats running around near the property.
Pros: Wonderful setting with water views
Pros: I was there for business so unfortunately, I did not have a chance to enjoy the amenities or meals at the hotel. The room was large and comfortable. The staff that I did encounter (only checking in and checking out) was pleasant and shared the feeling of aloha. The view was lovely, even if we did not have an ocean view.
Cons: The wi-fi in the room was not free. I ended up using my hotspot to connect, which was necessary for my business. There was not an ice machine on my floor and not sign or notice in the room where to find it. At that time, I didn't want to call or go look for a machine on another floor. It would also be nice to have a separate light switch for the toilet/shower so I would not disturb my co-worker when I woke up early to get ready. I ended up using the flashlight on my phone.
Cons: Breakfast buffet was extremely expensive, even with the discount, and food was terrible. Pancakes too hard to cut- yes, could not cut with a fork! Pancakes, bacon, and sausage were cold. Potatoes were OK. $18.00 for cold, hard food.
Pros: Beautiful view. Very accommodating staff.
Cons: The hallways and rooms smelled like smoke. There was a dead spider on one of the beds. You could hear everything from voices, lanai sliders opening and closing to doors slamming.

The spa tub makes for a relaxing end to the day, and free perks include continental breakfast, WiFi, and self parking. Rooms at this upscale bed & breakfast feature conveniences like kitchens, along with balconies and living rooms.
Pros: Economical, friendly and helpful staff, close to garden and Coconut Island.
Cons: Windows are unsealed glass vents so there will be various common bugs that share your room, including small roaches. Nothing compared to a cabin in the woods, but those with bug phobia may be concerned.
Pros: Clean. Great breakfast, not just continental breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice laundry. Convenient to everything. Close to airport. Very Affordable.
We will refer everyone to this Hotel.
Pros: The location next to the airport was nice. It is within a reasonable walk to downtown Hilo.
Cons: The hotel feels old and could use some renovation. It was also very hard to find our room.
Breakfast doesn't start until 7am, so we missed it due to an 8am flight.
Pros: The hotel brags of.being part.of.the only Hawaiian owned hotel group. It has some pretty courtyards and the pool is ok. The attached restaurant is convenient and the rooms are affordable. They have laundry facilities onsite which we liked because we travelled with carry on only for a ten day trip. Also, it is located on Banyan drive, where the walk is amazing. After walking that road, we decided we had the right hotel if we were staying on that strip. The others were a bit intimidating to walk by, we thought.
Cons: The rooms themselves are a bit run down. Clean, bit run down. The desk staff were not particularly friendly. Children playing in the pool were using tiles they found from the pool wall for diving and the poolcould be cleaner around the rim. Some of the rooms feel like you are in a cave. We were happier when we moved to the second floor.
Pros: Location of the hotel and its surroundings is beautiful. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Room that we got was not one of the best. On one side there is a road/highway and other side there is pool. Constant noise from both sides. Room electrical needs improvement. One switch turns on bathroom and other lights which can be disturbing for other persons in the room. These are minor things.
Pros: The restaurant attached to it. Food was good and staff were friendly.
Cons: The room was damp and the carpet was too old.
Pros: Very clean
