Close to some very good restaurants. Bed was comfortable.
No natural light, you wouldn't know it was daylight outside. Furnishings looked tired and "inexpensive".
Location was great. People working there were nice.
Overall run down.
I stayed for 6 noghts and my flight back home was only 9:40 pm. I asked 2 hours extra and they asked me a entire day charge. Ridiculously they asked me 100 dollars for 1 hour extra. I think it lacked a bit of kindness.
Seven days in New York with a four year old
Staff were very courteous and my daughter had a great time question the concierge JP. He doted on her every chance he got. The room was an ok room large because it was a room outfitted for wheel chair customers. They removed the fridge and the safe wasn't installed. But overall it was comfortable clean and spacious. The restaurant next door was cozy and offered great food. It was a bit pricey. I would recommend Pret A Manger for breakfast as their fare is healthy and affordable. I would definitely go back to Hotel Mela for its location and price.
Worth the penny!
You get what you paid for. The whole staff was excellent. They were courteous, and very accommodating especially the Filipino guy who always helped us with our luggage and arranged for our transportation. The front desk was very helpful with information about NYC. The room was fairly small but I already expected that since it was clearly stated in their website. I don't mind staying in a small room as long as it is clean and Hotel Mela is very clean. The Housekeeping assured that we have enough towels and toiletries and the lady was very polite. The Bistro downstairs was also very commendable. Their breakfast was superb and the service was impeccable. The location was perfect, too. As first timers in NYC, it really helped us because everything was walking distance to out hotel. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend it to my friends. Thanks Hotel Mela!
The first room we stayed in which was in 5th floor near the elevator needed an update. It was a bit dark but still ok.
Welcoming staff, easy check in, convenient location Great little restaurant serves good food and easy dining. Stayed many times at hotel and very consistent. Good value overall.
Wish they had "loyalty" program for frequent guests.
Very helpful and friendly desk staff. Bowl of free apples on counter. Location is right in the middle of all the Time Square action and broadway shows, and lots of restaurants - if that is what you want. Staff booked our car service for trip back to airport and service was excellent and reasonably priced.
Room space is tight. The closet for hanging up long pants is inadequate. Must call front desk to request a bucket of ice - no ice machines. Bathroom lacks sufficient towel rods and there is no place to hang up a wet washcloth, no shelf or niche in shower to place shampoo, body wash, etc except for one tiny triangular metal soap dish type thing. Only one shelf below the bathroom vanity to place toiletry bags, had to place hair dryer on floor. Hardly any counter space around bathroom sink, and only one narrow glass shelf above sink. Why is bathroom so sparse and lacking in these necessities? On one occasion, a drunk guest tried to open our room door at 2 a.m. and I had to yell out "This room is occupied. Get out of here!" in my best effort to sound like a tough New Yorker. This worked; he left.
Professional, upscale, green!
Close corners, small rooms and elevators.
4 nights with uncomfortable bed
Bed was uncomfortable - cheap mattress. Not for anyone with any hint of back problems. Elevators are so small they only hold 2 people.
The room was small (no chair, no real closet) but was clean and the elevators ran fast. Very close to Times Square, but relatively quiet. I would return and recommend to friends.
Loved early bag check-in, friendly staff, safe environment, and location!
View & room size
Half-block from Times Square, but on a quiet street just outside most of the noise, sits the boutique Hotel Mela with homey and attractive rooms. Hotel Mela is affordable and an excellent alternative to many chain hotels in Times Square and accommodates both leisure and business travelers, as well as families.
Situated on the relatively quiet 44th Street, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, Hotel Mela is within walking distance to all of the excitement but far enough away to get a peaceful night’s rest. It’s a convenient location between the tourist filled Times Square and the business-centric Midtown West. Times Square offers tons of activities for every age, including children. Kid-friendly musicals, Radio City Music Hall, Rockerfeller Center, and more are just blocks away. Plus, there are multiple subway lines to take guests anywhere in the city.
When travelers visit New York, they’re not staying long at the hotel. With that in mind, Hotel Mela offers great amenities, but not an overabundance. The hotel offers two next-door eateries, a French restaurant and Irish pub, a 24-hour fitness center, and standard business services. For families, baby-sitting services can be booked through the concierge, and they can also help with finding great kids' activities in the area or booking tickets to a Broadway musical.
Accommodations at Hotel Mela are attractive and warm. Rooms come in four sizes, standard rooms being a bit small and suites featuring more space and amenities. All rooms come with Serta mattresses, robes, slippers, ironing equipment, coffeemakers, alarm clocks, and more necessary and convenient amenities.
From iconic New York sights to lights of Broadway, world-class cuisine, and all-hours nightlife, the best of New York is found for all ages just outside Hotel Mela.
