The location is excellent right in the centre and in a walking distance to most of the sights. The room was a bit small but comfortable and the bathroom had a window with a nice view of the city. Breakfast was excellent and in my opinion is worth the 9€ they charge. We made a reservation to use the hotel parking and it worked out fine. Nothing that I disliked in the hotel.
Next to the train station
Good central position
Excellent location, could walk to everywhere. Friendly staff. Rather sterile bar and restuarant - not a major issue
Well maintained & comfortable, also a great view Up on a hill
We liked the efficiency and courtesy of the staff and the central location to the fine city of porto and its tourist and business centres. we felt the lounge lacked upright seating and areas for a quiet personal conversation or reading area
Friendly staff, breakfast (good food and nice view over the city) The double rooms are rather tiny, when choosing the standard room. Nevertheless this was not annoying. During the weekend when it was more crowded the quality of the breakfast was less good; f.i. the fruit bowl contained less different types and less nice fruits.
friendly staff; clean room; good location; great hotel overall room was tiny
Restaurant food was bad.
Personal service Poor breakfast
central location. Nice atmosphere. good breakfast room was a bit small
Like design of the place and the prices. some of the staff people were not very helpful, location is not very convenient.
Great service, beautifully appointed, very convenient. We appreciated the woman at the front desk who understood we had no interest in bus tours and gave wonderful recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants. wifi was finicky.
location of hotel was excellent. it was also.historic and luxury and personels were very helpful....webliked too much. maybe the bathroom needs a little bit renovated.
The entrance to the hotel was so beautiful and inviting. The hot breakfast wasn't inviting enough.
A wonderful old and formal hotel in the city centre. The courtyard cafe and roof sun terrace were fabulous places to relax.
excellent staff great location
The building itself is wonderful. The location could not be better. The staff were very helping with everything from recommending a good "non-touristy' restaurant to helping us figure out which port wine to buy.
Nice classic old hotel in good downtown location. The only problem is there is a substantial amount of construction on the streets in front of the hotel which is an access problem until they are finished.
Noisy bathroom exaustion. Breakfast personel always very busy - simpathetic but not effective(for this level of hotel). Public parking more than 5 min walking distance, not sure if safe at night. No mentiont of this limitation on the hotel page - private parking nearby (100m) closed on wekends??
Cool interior, friendly staff, clean rooms and nice breakfast. Also the location is very good - it is in the city centre so you can just walk to see all sights I was a bit surprised about quality of internet connection - it was very slow and constantly disconnecting. There was too dark in the room, but i think it is by design
It's a beautiful designed Hotel with competent and friendly staff and a great location. For a business stay the wardrobe was much to small as a suit would not fit. Try to avoid a room next to the staircase if you are sensitive to noise, the staircase is made out of metal and you hear every single step on it.
Very friendly and helpful staff who were great with tips on best places to dine out, go out and what there is to do in Porto. It was great location i.e. close to galleries and an overall well presented hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean and had all the necessary facilities.
The Hotel was, clean, modern and functional with professional and nice staff. The heat system didn't work properly and i got cold at night. There were no extra blankets at the room. The room (supposingly a junior suite) was nothing like a suite: the furniture disposition was terrible with the TV set at the right side of the bed on a regular room desk and just one huge sofa in front of the bed... Finally, the room service is not avaiable in a major part of the day.
I can't say that it's 5 stars hotel. It's pretty old and not so luxury and interesting, as it writen on websites. Rooms are prety old.
We liked the hotel situation as well as the quiet room and very nice breakfast
Situated in nice quiet part of the city, nice relaxed atmosphere in hotel, staff very helpful, efficent, and professional.
The room was spacious and modern. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were helpful and seemed to know their job well. The bathroom was splendid.
The hotel staff was beyond pleasant and willing to make our stay wonderful. Acknowledging that it was a special occasion (my husband's 60th birthday), they upgraded us to the largest room and then surprised us with a bottle of champagne and bowls of fruit. The king-size bed was extremely comfortable, with wonderful linens. The room was clean and large, bright and had a beautiful marble bathroom. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet tremendously. There was a computer available for free use by guests off the bar area, which was great. Lastly, the location was perfect - we could walk everywhere and yet were not in a noisy or busy area.
Nice and clean rooms Located in a small street and it is difficult to find first. However, this seems to be the only choice if you would like to stay at the historical center of the city since all the streets are the same.
Comfortable and clean hotel with great breakfast and friendly staff. Perhaps a bit too far away from the centre
located very close to the center of Porto (within walking distance for all sights) price of breakfast is (if you compare it to the room rate) to high
Nice breakfast, brilliant location, friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms serviced daily. We requested a twin and had two huge bedrooms! The rooms are a little old fashioned and in need of modernising and brightening up.
Excellent location. Easy walk to major tourist sites including the waterfront. Room was spacious .Breakfast was fine. All staff courteous Could use brighter wattage in room lighting.Should have fresh fruit rather than canned fruit at brekfast.
Exelent location, very cosy hotel like Porto city.
The hotel is in the heart of the city. The breakfast is varied and tasty. The staff is very nice. The windows can't be closed appropriate. The room doors are clumsy to be closed.
Location was excellent, the size of the rooms were large and our children could stay in our room at a little extra cost. The staff were fantastic too. The beds were very hard and we kept running out of hot water.
Its location and its staircase. Nothing really.
Great decor. Excellent value for the money. Small room but very clean.
We only stayed one night as we had to catch a flight the next morning. We were staying in Santarem with our daughter. On our next visit to Portugal we are intending to stay for a weekend in Porto and we definitely will go to Pao de Acucar. all was perfect
The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. We arrived before check-in time; they eagerly took our luggage and placed it in our room while we went out to explore. The room size/layout (family suite) suited our needs well (two adults/1 child)...two bedrooms (one double bed in one room; larger room one twin/one double with TV) separated by door. Weren't bothered by street/hall noise in our room--a problem noted in other reviews. Bathroom was sizeable for European hotel...had enough hot water--noted this was complaint of previous visitor. Had plenty of basic towels/exchanged daily. Breakfast was adequate (good variety of breads, limited meats/cheese and cereal, variety of 'from concentrate' juices, canned fruits etc)--typical for region--as economical hotel, we were satisfied. Location excellent...3-5 min walk to Metro (take to/from airport--easy and cheap!), close to main city shopping area/market (5 min walk), 10-15 min to River (longer on hike back to hotel). Overall very satisfied with our experience. Beds were small...were shorter than US standard double; mattresses were very firm...but that wasn't a problem for us.
large, clean, quiet room, friendly personnel, location right in the city centre, excellent value for money equipment, furniture of room rather old, low class breakfast, difficulties with parking
The hotel was central in Porto as well as offering and providing all the facilities of a hotel of this star rating. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing
The price and location.
the location was great and the receptions staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived early (10am) and were shown straight to a room. the hotel is lovely with wide staircases (although there are lifts also), sculptures and stained glass in top floor lobby the breakfast was basic - ham, cheese, croissants and yoghurt. the double bed is actually two beds pushed together - a bit uncomfortable. wireless access would make a great addition this hotel that scores highly otherwise.
good service - attractive dining room a bit noisy - traffic
one of the best hotels we have stayed in during our 8 week vacation of spain and portugal, great location and very courteous staff there were road works outside but that was not the fault of the hotel
The location of the hotel is suitable to visit the city The rooms near the Almada Street are quite noisy during the night
The hotel is very well situated for visiting the city on foot and there are a lot of places to eat within walking distance. It is also close to a subway station so can easily go anywhere in the city. The staff were very friendly and helpful too.
very nice modern hotel in the middle of porto. i would recommend.
Excellent location. Comfortable room. Design of hotel is too dark - it was a bit like staying in a bat cave!
The staff were wonderful. Hotel very interesting. Food excellent. It was fun. Loved everything about the hotel. Not a bad point as such, as hotel was really fabulous, but I would have preferred the toilet door (in bathroom area of room)to be opaque.
The hotel had a big lounge room with a huge screen where guests where able to watch music dvd's. On my birthay I asked if we could watch a U2 DVD...We enjoyed watching U2 360 life from the Rose Bowl:) We heard that there was a fitness room. But we were a bit dissapointed when we entered it: Less than 10 square meters with only 3 fitness devices.
The decor of Hotel Teatro was fantastic - I loved the theater theme (which they pulled off without it being too kitchy). I also thought the bed was super comfortable!
Fabulous location and views. Very courteous and professional staff I would have preferred a smaller bill!!!
Excellent location in a wonderful building along the Douro river Excellent breakfast buffet Modern restaurant with a beautiful river view offering original meals Spacious rooms The look of the wooden cabinet of the minibar: big scratches First little signs of wear and tear
the wonderfull view... manca un parchegio davanti all hotel almeno per poter scaricare i bagagli
Professional, committed staff made this stay most pleasant. The service provided to guests was outstanding. In addition, the hotel has a great location in Porto. We had no dislikes during our stay at the Hotel. The service, our guest room, the breakfast and the ambiance were all excellent.
Everything what a great place and staff that simply could not do enough for you. worth every penny.
We had a beautiful room. Bathroom was kept well stocked and very clean.
Comfortable room and beautiful view of the river. The location was perfect - even if the main city was uphill at least it was always downhill to come home! Staff were pleasant and helpful. It seems like a nit-picky thing, but the showerhead wasn't great - we had to cram into the corner to get water on us.
The location of the hotel.
Greeting us with complementary wine at check in! nothing
The riverside location (and river view) is the hotel's best selling point; the staff were also very pleasant and well-trained; the rooms were quiet/sound-proofed and the bed was very comfortable. There was no restaurant or room service - despite claims on the bookings.com website to the contrary. It was the main reason I booked the hotel (I knew I would be arriving late and tired) and so felt that I had been misled. This being the case, I also felt that the hotel did not offer value for money, as I would expect these facilitiesin a hotel where I am paying €150 a night. To be fair to the manager, he handled the situation well and offered to upgrade me/reduce the room rate when I complained but the most I would pay for a hotel lacking these facilities would be less than half the rate quoted.
The staff was friendly , professional and welcoming;Alex is a wonder! The view is very special/ Not being able to leave the windows open at night but I understand the security issue.
