The staff. The staff were on the most part fantastic. Absolutely lovely. ANy problems we had were more from slight misunderstandings from language but when the staff all speak three or four languages and I only have one I can hardly complain. The babysitter from an outside agency had a bad cold.
Great place, location wonderful. Front desk, bellmen, bartender, awesome nice, helpful people. Very kind and professional! Maid did not replenish kleenex
The location is beautifull in the centre at the riverside and near to the beach. The room was spacious. Because of the price of the hotel and exposure on booking.com we expected the hotel to have an indoor swimmingpool, however it was a spa whitout pool and the spa was only accesible for people above 17 years old.
Lcation and ease of acces. Near the best restaurants and watering holes.
Elegant Hotel. Great Location. Superb rooms and ambiance. Would stay here any time. I would not call this a complaint but for a five star hotel the front desk staff need to be better trained. While extremely polite and helpful the lack of a dedicated conceirge made it difficult to get good information on dinner reservations, accurate directions. Overall. our experience was very positive
Relaxing luxurious rooms No restaurant due to refurbishment and significant work going on outside the hotel
large room, comfortable, quiet, convenient
Beautiful site and charming old-style palace feel. Service and reception are rather mediocre, no English or French spoken by receptionist, no English newspaper available.
Beautiful, luxurious and charming hotel. The rooms were very spacious and facilities excellent. The location was perfect for city and beach. Minibar beer 5 EUR. Buy a beer at hotel bar 5 EUR. Order the same beer through room service it is 7 EUR + 4 EUR Room service charge. Why the beer is marked-up 2 eur plus a room service charge is beyond me.
The hotel is fine.
I'm usually critical of hotels but Arrizul Gros is simply outstanding....I wouldn't waste your time staying anywhere else.
Hotel was very tastefully decorated, clean, and well located. Staff were very helpful, and pleasant at all times. I would definitely recommend the hotel, and stay there again on my next visit to San Sebastian.
The staff were really friendly & the hotel was very nicely furnished & quiet. The rooms are quite small so I probably wouldn't want to stay there for longer than 3/4 nights.
This is a brand new hotel, so everything was new and clean. The location is good--just a very short walk across the bridge into the Centro and Parte Viejo and just a few blocks from the beach. The hotel is not non-smoking, so the smoke smell did come into the room from time to time.
Anyone staying at this hotel would be doing themselves a big favour. Perfectly quiet central location in a beautifully equipped and furnished apartment and spotlessly clean. Will be returning!
It was great location to see the city. Most places were within easy walking distance. The one-way streets make it difficult to find the hotel if you are driving.
Very clean hotel, room was very clean. Reception staff were very friendly, efficient and very helpful. Location is 5mins walk from surfing beach and 10-15mins walk to la concha beach, its a nice walk! Breakfast is standing room only, help yourself to juice, coffee and buns. Rooms are small but adequate. Shower was nice!
Excellent hotel, quiet and very friendly staff. Gentleman in reception was extremely friendly and keen to try his good English.
very very nice people
Ver6y good position. Comfortable and friendly
Highly recommend as this is on the water front. Near old town and walking distance to everything.
The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. The location was very convenient to the train and the old city. The room was very simple
beautiful place with a great location to the city and the beach. a must stay place for the money
location, mostly super friendly staff, location again!, clean, no frills.
View to the sea is very pleasant. Location was great, very close to everything. Staff were more than great; very friendly, helpful and considerate; we had a serious incidence happening in our room and Pedro (reception staff) was our hero!
The pleasant and friendly staff and the location. No, not really
Location was ideal No
The location of the hotel is wonderful and easy to get to. the staff was very friendly and informative. We loved our stay at the Parma and would definitely stay there again.
Great location for seeing San Sebastian. It was situated in the middle of the old town and within walking distance of everywhere. My room was quite clean and Teresa our host was perfect. She helped me for everything. I stayed there for 6 nights as an alone woman. Pension was quite safe and I felt like I am Teresa's friend staying at her home.
The location of the hotel is great, you can walk to the town beach in less than 5 minutes, the rooms are a good size, beds comfy and the couple who run the place are lovely, very helpful
Excellent location, hospitable owners- very friendly. Clean and comfortable.
This was one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Sure, it's a Pension, so all you expect is basically a bed, toilet and shower, but the whole ambience and location are tremendous. Teresa, the manager, is a lovely, kind lady who obviously really wants you to feel welcome. I would give it 11 out of 10 if I could!
Perfect location between the old town and the shopping area, and right beside the cafe and bar area of the avenue Alameda. Very friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately, Donostia/San Sebastian generally seems to be very much more expensive than anywhere else in northern Spain, which is why it gets low marks for value for money.
clean rooms. convenient location. municipal parking lot across the street. all close difficult to find a hotel. No information about the location
Excellent and friendly staff/owners (helped by my own level of Spanish, but manager spoke English OK). Location was sort of accessed from the pedestrian walkway to the old town and close to the beach and shops. Room was adequate, bathroom OK with good water temperature and pressure and area generally quiet, albeit with potential for noise from other guests in the morning. Close to restaurants and lots of places within a minute for breakfast. If you have a car, even Sat Nav/GPS gets confused by the one-way road system of the city and the hotel took some finding - eventually I chose to traverse the pedestrian mall, the wrong way, just to get to the door. The manager did explain the best way to get to the best car park nearby without paying too high a rate and how to navigate the one-way system. It's really preferable to park the car in the nearby underground car park and walk to the hotel/pension.
I liked the family context and the owners kindness. I liked also the hotel is close to everything in the city; beach, shopping, center... Maybe the relation between price and quality.
I liked where was located, very close to the old city and right on the bus lines. Most of all I like the owners they were very pleasant and accommodating. The rooms were somewhat small but still comfortable. There was no food or coffee served, but these things were available right outside the pension.
The shower was clean. There was no isolation and we could hear all the noises.
Everything was more than expected and a great value - the location is across the street from underground parking, the major food market and mall, steps from banks, the entire old town area, and 10 minutes from the La Concha beach. Only complaint would be that the shower curtain did not contain the spray and flooded the bathroom floor even when we took care.
Location was excellent and the staff friendly. Easy to find, 24 hour reception was handy too. Good shower pressure and constant hot water though very small. The room was extremely small and decor very dated. It was set up as a twin but should only have been for a single occupant. The shutters were in poor condition and shower curtain needed to be replaced as it was filthy. Not expensive but still over priced for the standard of room.
Central location It's located on the first floor and you need to ring a bell each time you need to enter. no breakfast on the premises, just a voucher for a continental breakfast at a nearby cafe'. Public parking under your nose but difficult to access and very expensive. no parking whatsoever on surrounding streets.
One member of staff was exceptionally helpful and the location was perfect - on the edge of the old town and close to the beaches! The noise proofing to the communal area outside our door was almost non-existent. Fortunately for our stay there weren't any excessively noisy guests.
Excellent location, very nice and helpful staff, nice decor in the room, however the room a bit tiny The windows face a street, there is quite noisy at nights
Location. Very small room, three beds in a row. Requires redecoration. Too expensive for this level of hotel.
The hotel is in an excellent location, the staff were excellent and the room was nice. Because of the central location of the hotel, the room was a little loud (there was no AC in the room and we kept the windows open).
A small and friendly Pension right in the heart of the Old Town in San Sebastain. Really cosy, lovely rooms with lots of character. No AC, and as its in town a little noisy at night. But, ask the staff for a fan and the temp was fine (meant you could shut the noise out at night)
amazing customer service, clean and comfortable room. rancid smell from noisy road construction nearby - we were told it should be finished soon so shouldnt effect other peoples stay in the future.
HELPFUL STAFF, WONDERFUL LOCATION. GREAT
Room was big and nice. Free water bottles available in the hallway, and breakfast for 1 Euro. This hotel deserved at least one more star. Room was very close to busy street, we got woken up by some drunken youth at 6am in the streets.
5 minute walk from Old Town, the beach, or Gros, you choose. Fantastic Pintxos in old town, and a giant Pintxos pote in Gros on Thursdays (Pintxos crawl where a drink and a pintxo is only 2 euros - selection is not as tasty, but it's cheap and fun with tons of locals). 7-10 minute walk from train station. The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. They stayed late for a late check in when our train didn't come in until after hours. Offered to do laundry for us during our stay. Had lots of local breakfast recommendations. Room was very clean and the bathroom was amazing (we now want a shower setup like they had). Room did not seem to have temperature control that we saw, but we went during May so the temperature was mostly nice and easily modified by opening the balcony door for a little. Would book there again next time we visit. Parking in neighborhood looked tight (but we took the train there so we never had to hunt for parking, sounds like the pension had suggestions, but probably had to pay ). Lack of individual temp control if going In a warmer month. Our room opened onto the back alley, so sometimes if we had the balcony door open we could smell cigarettes from other neighbors(But rare).
it was clean it was small, far from everything, noisy - paper thin walls. the lights kept tripping -
Clean, neat, new, excellent staff.....
I liked that it was almost right on the beach, at the far end, and yet close to everything in town. The room did not have any windows at all. There was a door out to an outside area the size of a large shower, with very high walls, so no one could see in. But I felt rather claustrophobic. I would make sure not to get this room again.
Very friendly and helpful staff
in front of the city beach of san Sebastian not all the rooms have good sizes, one of the rooms on the 1st floor has only one window to a closed couloir of a warehouse or something similar. so, no beach view. this is not explained beforehand.
Very nice hotel. A single room costs 80 Euro per night which is high for Spain but quite good for a hotel room in San Sebastian in July (2009). Nice modern rooms, wonderful location directly at the surfer's beach of the city (10 minutes walk a long the beach to the old city center). Very friendly staff. Easy parking.
The service was great! The day-time receptionist was extremely helpful and went through the map of San Sebastian and highlighted recommendations. We tried quite a few of her recommendations and loved them! If anything, it is that our sleeping quarters were underground so it was a bit musty. Also there wasn't direct sunlight in the room, but didn't prove to be a problem when waking in the morning.
Excellent room design and good outlook Very helpful staff with vital knowledge of the best authentic places to eat etc Too small small to act as more than a base to enjoy San Sebastian
Great location at the far end of one of the beaches. A pleasant 10 minute walk in to the old town along the beach front or simply divert off a back street and there are plenty of local bars and restaurants along the way. Almost all the rooms have windows to the beach and a great location to see the sun set from the room with a glass of Rioja in hand. Decent sized rooms and bathroom with shower. The building is small with maybe only 13-14 rooms but they work hard at providing a good service and keeping the place very clean and tidy. Despite being so small they had someone on the desk seemingly through the night - OK 1.30am was probably the latest we made it home. No noisy bars around. Great beach literally on your door step. Could not fault the place - decent coffee for breakfast. Breakfast was more than sufficient with cereals and yoghurt, coisant and pan aux chocolat or toast with ham and cheese or jams. All good!
Very good situation, price included breakfast. Unfortunately very noisy during the evening (it was in August).
The location was good and everywhere was very clean. The beds were to small and very uncomfortable. Shower unit was too small.
The room was very nice, modern and stylish. Very clean and comfortable. Large bathroom. Free mineral water. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The area was very noisey - partygoers out until dawn and the noisiest bin collectors ever start work at 4am. It was a festival weekend so worse than usual. Breakfast was one piece of toast,a piece of cake, one coffee and one orange juice. Whilst breakfast is not a big deal in Spain for 146 euros a night I would at least have expected to be offerred a second cup of coffee.
excellent location, rooms were clean and staff very nice very small room with just one small windown
It was very central with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Also very near the beach, with some good walks around. There was not parking. We had to park in one of the car parks which if you left your car there all day for the length of your stay, it turned out to be expensive.
Excellent location, very helpful staff, rooms nice and clean, definitely stay at this pension again.
Friendly staff. Very comfortable bed. Good water pressure and hot water!!! Perfect location. Could be noise in the morning if people arrive/leave early. Breakfast was a slice of toast.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and modern. Top location and great value for money. Will go back again.
We felt like we were walking into a spa! The lobby is very small and intimate, so we were a bit concerned about going to our room, but then we opened the door to a very spacious room with 2 balconies overlooking the Parte Vieja streets. We were thrilled! The elevator to the building was not in service; however, the hotel shares it with others in the building, so it wasn't their fault. Luckily it's on the second floor so we didn't have to carry our bags too far up the stairs!
