Pros: Thank you Sandie, you are a fantantastic host. Everything was superb. All the comforts of home. Couldn't wish for anything more. Excellent breakfast and lots of extras. See you again.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We liked the fresh fruit platter at breakfast. We were interested in the history of the house and of Sandie's willingness to tell us all that she knew about the property. The bottles of water in the room were an added nice touch. This B&B is very well placed for walking to a pub for dinner and for exploring Sherborne on foot.
Cons: It's not Sandie's fault, but it would have been nicer had it not been on such a busy street. This will not stop us from booking again, however!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quirkiness and ambience of the house. The Owner was a very good host.

Pros: Cheryl and Alan genuinely lovely and very helpful with dietary needs Massive comfy bed Large room with good size en suite Fabulous food Everything you could want when staying over for work
Cons: The property is a little difficult to get to if you have a large vehicle as it’s down a single lane but not too much of a problem

10.0 Excellent
Pros: the inn is in a quiet location if you are looking for a peaceful stay. The owners were very welcoming and nothing was any trouble .The room was well decorated clean and warm the shower was top notch lovely towels with everything you could need beds very good The food breakfast and dinner was superb and dinner very realistic priced also the beer and wine The locals were also all very friendly and helpful .We can't recommend the Mitre inn and Allen and Cheryl highly enough Thank you both

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Food was amazing, beautiful location, friendly hosts.
Cons: Only little thing but bed was very squeaky. Everyone I turned over it squeaked but only minor thing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Mitre Inn is a charming rural pub set in the hamlet of Sandford Orcas . We were warmly welcomed by Cheryl and Alan and immediately felt at home . Our bedroom was very comfortable and the modern bathroom is equipped with a towel warmer making it a 10 in my book . The cooked breakfasts were delicious as were the evening meals when we ate there and sitting in the snug chatting to the locals was delightful . There are many walking paths easily walked to from the Inn and lovely places to visit further afield , especially the interesting town of Sherborne with its beautiful abbey . If we were in the area again we would very happily stay at the Mitre Inn .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Host very friendly .excellent breakfast.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent quiet location very comfortable and friendly owners. Water nice and hot, bed lovely!
Cons: a few more tea bags
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, beautifully presented rooms, with lots of character, but with modern fittings. Nice, comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast in a lovely dining room. We will definitely visit again when in the area.
Cons: Absolutely no complaints, lovely.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Although The Mitre too k a little finding (well done satnav !) it was as described a very much down to earth village Pub. Very much used by the "locals". We felt like one of them very quickly. Breakfast was very good with lots on offer, ingredients first class. Cheryl and Allen deserve all credit in how they are developing their business. From their welcome to guests to the food on offer in the evening. Well done. We hope to be back one day
Cons: As I have a slight walking problem, the stairs where a little steep for me the the stair rail a little hard to hold in places , perhaps another small rail at the top of the stairs ? A night light in the bedroom would have been helpful as its pretty dark when lights out !
Clare Cottage - Sherborne - Building
4
9.6 Excellent (62 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Clare Cottage in Sherborne, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Sherborne Abbey and Sherborne Museum. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved it all, the beautiful comfortable rooms with plush beds to sink into and small details like homemade shortbread, smart phone chargers, walk in closets, the claw foot bath, access to a pretty garden and Susie’s open and accommodating welcome. It rained and we were supplied with umbrellas, we were greeted at breakfast with a cheering, crackling fire and treated to fantastic breakfasts cooked to order. My vegan daughter’s dietary needs were met with enthusiasm and mouthwatering dishes. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was so beautifully presented with attention to detail and a caring human touch. I can’t recommend Clare Cottage enough.
Cons: I can’t think of anything. We had booked both rooms as a family of five adults so didn’t mind sharing the bathroom and I understand there’ll shortly be another bathroom installed so It wasn’t a problem for us.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast. Susie was very helpful when I was needing to make related travel arrangements.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What an incredible stay I had here. I wish I could have stayed here two nights instead of just the one. Susie was so kind and offered to drive me back to the last hotel I was staying at to pick up my heavy luggage. Doing this saved me CONSIDERABLE time and I was able to get out and explore more of beautiful Sherborne earlier than I had expected - thanks to Susie! My room was GORGEOUS!!!! The tub was sheer HEAVEN! I soaked in it twice and wanted to take it with me when I left. This is the kind of B&B where you gradually notice the careful attention to detail that Susie has taken with the room. There was a LOVELY tea set for tea, with scrumptious shortbread. Beautiful antique furniture. And everything was as clean as a whistle. I loved that Susie asked me to take off my shoes upon arrival. Being Canadian, this is a normal thing to do when entering a home and as a result Susie's place is clean and comfortable. Susie was a lovely host and since my visit we have been in-touch with one-another just because she is that kind of a person. Very friendly and caring. Breakfast was lovely! I highly recommend this beautiful place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Another peaceful stay at this lovely cottage, only ten minutes' walk from the Sherborne Summer School of Music. My morning ablutions were accompanied by the distant abbey bell and the soft cooing of wood pigeons, and the breakfasts, taken with two fellow musicians, were imaginative, varied and delicious. Thank you once again, Susie!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent and beautifully served. The location was perfect - centrally situated for the town but quiet with a lovely private garden behind the property. The owner was welcoming, kind and helpful at all times. The room was comfortable, spacious and well-appointed. It was a real pleasure to stay there.
Cons: No ensuite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very friendly staff and nice rooms!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is excellent for walking to Sherborne Abbey and Castle. Off road parking is a plus. Our hostess was charming , efficient and helpful. Very nice breakfast - lovely room.
Cons: The only downside - albeit we did know this in advance - was sharing a bathroom with other guests. On reflection we decided that we are too old for that! That is the only thing that prevents 10/10.

Pros: Perfect hosts. Lovely House in a quiet location.
Cons: Even though the fixtures and fittings are in really good condition they need updating. I prefer not to prebook breakfast, but I think that's becoming more common.

Cons: Only one thing - very weak flow from the shower and it was difficult to adjust the temperature.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were friendly and very helpful. This was our third visit.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Well appointed hotel with a beautiful garden and comfortable rooms. The food was very good, especially the grazing menu which was exactly what we wanted on our arrival.
Cons: There always niggles: one set of curtains in our room could not be opened as the mechanism did not work. The plug in the hand basin was difficult to release and needed forceful treatment!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff and service, beautiful setting and great food, would definitely go again.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nice place, room spacious but hot, bed harder than floor
9.0 Excellent
Pros: This a delightful place to stay to relax in an informal yet professional setting. The staff, were all warm, friendly and professional - a hard balancing act and one where all too often the sense of genuine friendliness gets lost behind a corporate smile. The team at The Grange take customer comfort seriously and it felt noticeably different than many places I've previously stayed.
Cons: It would be churlish to be picky given the wonderful service.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location great, breakfast very good and tasted organic/good quality produce. Very quiet location, no traffic/aircraft/rail noise.
Cons: Wifi signal was very poor, there was absolutely no mobile phone signal.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Was here as part of my sister’s birthday celebrations and really enjoyed my stay here ie in no particular order - well equipped, clean room, comfortable bed and walk in shower - chirpy friendly staff - above average restaurant
Cons: Couldn’t fault it
7.9 Good
Pros: The food was nicely served and very good! The steak for the evening meal was splendid!!
Cons: Happy with everything....

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. Food in restaurant was excellent. Selection of walks available in the bar, which were useful.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The shower was clean, hot and powerful.
Cons: More options at breakfast. Eg only black filter coffee and white or brown sliced loaf was available. Croissants, rye bread, bagels and cappuccino, latte or espresso are expected at this price point Also the bed was shocking. Flakey leather at the edges of the surround and the mattress was like a water bed. Horrid
9.0 Excellent
Pros: All the food was excellent and the salad with the smoked salmon was the best ever.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Bathroom with walk in Shower. Had a lift for disabled people
Cons: Advertised as 5star hotel. I think it is nearer. Was probably 5 star as restaurant. Poor signage to Hotel from main roads Very old low beds
5.5 Okay
Pros: The dining room food was superb and there was no riff raff with the other patrons.
Cons: I selected the hotel as it advertised "washing machine " and we were coming to the end of a travelling cycle hence the reason for staying two nights. The management was not interested in assisting. So about two thirds of a day was finding a laundrette and elusive two pound coins to feed the machines. Very frustrating . There was no cricket on the TV in the bar however I understand the policy of trying to attract a better clientele .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfy bed. Nice decor. Interesting art on walls by local artists. Excellent breakfast particularly the local yogurt.
Cons: The dinner was a little disappointing. Good choice of options but my starter was over cooked and dry.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: evening meal and breakfast just excellent , staff all top marks all round
Cons: nothing

6.7 Good
Pros: The bed was SO comfortable!
Cons: Over priced for what it is and breakfast was meagre.
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff friendly but seemed nobody in charge.
Cons: Had to clean own table in the bar. Toast hard with breakfast. Not value for money.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The bed was lovely and large with feather duvet and pillows, a great nights sleep. The food was delicious. The instructions for going for a local walk or run was a good idea.
Cons: The shower was a rain shower in a small cubicle which doesn’t work as you under a constant stream of water. Also difficult to work out how to turn up or done the temperature of the water
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Delicious 4 course evening meal in a relaxed environment.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location Nice quiet and good atmosphere. Staff helpful and cheerful
Cons: Wedged open skylight in room (room 8) Breakfast service
7.5 Good
Pros: The location was excellent with walks from the door. Excellent views for really modest effort! Has a comfortable bar and patio and a nice evening menu.
Cons: The only adverse comment I would have is the bed and wardrobe in our room which were of an antique nature, which is fine by style, but the bed was very noisy when you moved at all and the wardrobe quite impractical to use.
6.7 Good
Pros: The food was excellent quality but overpriced.
Cons: Unexpected charges on our bill for extras, not explained at the time. Extra toast and jam for my elderly mother at £7 when she didn't take the full cooked breakfast, £1 for some milk for our tea and extra charges for bottled water in our room. These should have been complimentary and charges were not made clear at the time.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Breakfast not of my taste
Cons: stairs up to bedrooms
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely charming but not luxurious place, exceptionally good food, very friendly place to stay near Sherborne, grat service. We'll be back!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: 100% clean and immaculately maintained - well designed Friendly, attentive staff excellent food interesting and friendly locals

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The overall friendliness of staff lovely room and good cooking recommend highly
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Country pub/hotel, excellent breakfast, frindly locals.
5.6 Okay
Pros: The Queens Arms was delightful, nice log fire - very inviting - good food in the bar and a comfortable bed to sleep in - the complimentary breakfast as of a good standard.
Cons: We had a twin room and it was clean and everything worked - good shower - the only problem I had was that it would have been nice to have had a mirror on the wall near a socket for hairdryer, as when my daughter was in the shower I was wanting to dry my hair in the bedroom and there was no mirror, only a small problem but would have made things easier.
7.6 Good
Pros: God rooms, good food, great staff
Cons:
6.8 Good
Pros: Comfort of room, quality of food
Cons: Not the easiest place to find
6.8 Good
Pros: Excellent rooms and food
Cons: Would have preferred coffe and kettle in room and a bin in bedroom (only a tiny one in bathrooms)
6.0 Good
Pros: Very comfortable just renovated nice and quiet tremendous food great selection drinks freindly staff
Cons: Not a typical hotel no tv in room or tea making facilities, more of a gastro pub with beautiful rooms
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Half Moon by Marston's Inns in Sherborne, you'll be just steps from Sherborne Museum and Sherborne Abbey. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very convenient for the centre of the town with parking behind the hotel
Cons: My husband got stuck in the bathroom and I had to call someone to open the door. We tried to remember not to shut the door, but sometimes it was very hard to get the door open
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good quality food at reasonable its. Very friendly staff. Obviously a very historic building.
Cons: Take ear plugs as the windows are original/ secondary glazed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Every thing as I've stayed before an have advised friends to stay tooo
Cons: Nothing to dislike
5.0 Okay
Pros: Craig, the manager, exceptional, given the amount of work he seemed to have to deal with. The bar, often busy, needs to sharpen up.
Cons: See previous comment
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good price and very convenient
Cons: Bit noisy with the pub downstairs
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a twin room my bed too hard didn’t sleep that well.
Cons: Room need more ceiling lights only had 1 by the window over the mirror nothing.
7.9 Good
Pros: Central for the town & Abby. Food lovely & room clean
Cons: Breakfast was not included in price off stay.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location is great, and despite being above a bar the windows were well sound-proofed and I wasn't disturbed by people at the tables outside. The bed was comfy, the room a good size and it was appreciated having a kettle with coffee, tea and milk in the room.
Cons: Whilst the windows were good, the door was not a great insulator of sound and you could hear everyone talking as they passed the room, and being upstairs from reception and the entrance to the bar and restaurant, it was a bit noisy. The TV was pretty old and could be updated, the control (without a battery cover) was an ergonomic disaster that kept putting me into analogue TV or radio stations.
6.7 Good
Pros: Breakfast not included, location is good although Abbey Bells started at 8:30 on a Sunday and the clock chimes every hour 24/7! Sherborne is a pretty small market town in rural north Dorset.
Cons: Synthetic bed linen and duvet, being woken by the church bells!
The Britannia Inn Hotel - Sherborne - Building

7.6 Good (44 reviews)
Overview Reviews
A stay at The Britannia Inn Hotel places you in the heart of Sherborne, steps from Sherborne Abbey and 2 minutes by foot from Sherborne Museum. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
4.2 Okay
Pros: location
Cons: Your website is misleading, we were expecting a car park (free parking), when infact the nearest pay for car park was about a quarter of a mile away. No Wifi in room. Shower was cold when we wanted to use it, we were told to wait half an hour and try again. Loud music was playing in the beer garden, right under window until midnight. On leaving about 8 am we could not get out of building, it was locked from outside, so had to use the fire escape, which had obstructions along it and would of been dangerous if it was night time.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Condition of accommodation
4.6 Okay
Pros: Not very much. Beds were comfy. There were complimentary shower gels and shampoo, which surprised me.
Cons: Most things. The check-in was chaotic, nobody could find a key and the room wasn't ready despite the fact that we arrived later than we'd said we would. The girls changed the beds while I waited in the bar but I wouldn't think there was enough time for them to have done much in the way of cleaning. The room is basic. No wardrobe, just a hanging rail. The shower room looked good but: no hot water to basin, shower feeble and could only get it warm plus it starts to lap over the edge if you leave it on for too long. Plaster flaking from wall and whole place needed a coat of paint. Electrics in room worried me: several things plugged in to same socket, all seemed a bit dodgy. Carpet on the stairs/landing outside needed Hoovering. We didn't get any breakfast, although it was included in the cost. We went down at 8.30, when it should have started. Bowl of fruit, some cereal on the side. Fridge contained yesterday's milk and orange juice. No sign of anyone - we found a light switch and wandered into and through the kitchens. Nobody around. In the end we left at 8.45 and got breakfast in the town. So basically we paid for it twice.
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: There was no parking as promised, which was a disaster for us. The premises were dirty, carpets not swept, we had to ask for towels. And when it came to breakfast there was no milk, one crust of bread and a teaspoon of marmalade.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: Breakfast almost nonexistent and breakfast area yuk and facilities throughout generally grubby. Customer service Pretty much zilch. Pretty horrified.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Sherbourne i
Cons: No clear Entrance,Noisy,Toilet Blocked, Cieling shakes when Extractor on,Tried to get a drink from bar twice but no one there, walk ways tierd and Dirty,Is it a pub or Grill Bar? Needs refurbishment only one cup that was dirty, draws dusty and grimy nearly 90 pound a night !!! I'd rather camp, very disappointed.
6.3 Good
Pros: Would have liked the option of a cooked breakfast
Cons: Hand basin/Sink in room did not work at all. I reported problem but nothing done about it.
4.6 Okay
Cons: No car park, no wifi in room, no satellite in room, shower cold when used later warmer, very noisy outside window loud music etc, on exit door double locked had to use fire escape which had obstructions in way
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: It was a dump. Advertising is a lie.Bathrooms dirty leaking toilet broken tap. No free wifi although advertised it did. Stairs up to room was steep and narrow so couldn’t take suitcases up. Had to leave them in the car. No parking there so had to park 8 mins walk away and hope car was safe. Sheets didn’t feel crisp and clean. Heaters old and rattling with no heat. The flat screen tv was a pokey little thing .The pillows were lumpy and old. We found out it was sold and bought since we booked it and the whole place is going through a slow renovation. They should have closed it till ready.
