Motel style chalet rooms excellent and free parking directly outside your door. Clean and tidy room with comfy bed. Much further outside of the city centre than suggested on the website. It is in fact 3.6 kilometers which is a bit too far to walk.
Cleanliness and breakfast N/A
The ease and convenience of using the hotel
It was simply perfect!!
Convenient as a stopover enroute to our final destination
Food facility on site was good. Easy check -in just like a USA motel. Reception spoke good english to make up for my bad french Hotel - not in an ideal location (industrial style). GPS system seemed to locate hotel at a garden centre about a kilometre away!
clean and ideal as a stopover from Calais was pleased to find tea and coffee making facilities in the room would use this again for an overnight stay
- Position within an industrial estate was poor, instructions for finding hotel were very poor. It should have been made clearer that this is 'motel' style accommodation. There was no parking near the cabin.
Some (not all) of the staff were very rude to guests, to the extent that the whole dining room at breakfast was talking about it. We made a reservation in therestaurant in the evening upon arrival but they did not honour it. I was not the party booking the reservation so cannot comment on other aspects of this survey.
good location. easy to find. simple check-in. comfortable and clean.
Reception very helpful and spoke English
Excellent staff, extremely polite, friendly, attentive and helpful None
shower smell of drains as you enter the hotel, this really should be addressed.
Easy to find on main route-restaurant attached with good food at reasonable price-free on site parking- free wifi in room. Warm. (It was -4c outside) Bed very uncomfortable-(new mattress needed) -toilet not very clean & flusher was difficult to stop.
A very satisfactory overnight visit with a good dinner & breakfast.
None Old,out of date,poor shower,generally never again
Meal in evening was extremely good and service was very good.Good selection at breakfast. Easy access from motorway to hotel. First person to shower had cold water in evening but water warmed up for second person to have shower. Shower curtain very flimsy and clingy to body when showering.
Pleasant and helpful staff Bedrooms very small
Cleanliness, friendliness and helpfulness of the staff
Cheap hotel with very good value for money dinner and breakfast. Pets allowed No hairdryer in room or available at reception Receptionist unhelpful when I had problem with wifi
Comfortable large room, lovely grounds Rather formal, food quite expensive, reception not particularly welcoming
The hotel in in a superb countryside seting, large bedroom and great atmosphere. Quiet setting
The staff was very friendly in accomodating us and the petite mason was perfect for my brother and I. No
I liked the country setting and walks and the relaxed atmosphere around the swimming pool. The free bikes were in a terrible condition and unroad worthy. The gourmet food was let down by a very poorly prepared main course (lamb).
The restaurant was superb. The best food we had in Normandy, which says a lot because we had a lot of good food. Parts of the room had not been dusted in quite a while.
A very nice Renaissance "hunting pavillon" right in the middle of a deep forest. A calm and cosy place to rest. Rooms are rather noisy as the structure is old and poorly insulated. This is not really acceptable in such a pricely hotel.
Staff amiable and helpful. beautiful hunting lodge. nice food, good breakfast with great coffee! Bedroom sombre needs more lighting. surprised not one vegetarian dish on the menu.
The standard room we booked was extremely nice - with bed and breakfast for £100 a couple very good value. Room was a good size with a large comfortable double bed, and all very clean. The bathroom was also very clean a good size, with marble effect finish. The breakfast provided a good choice with bread etc... refreshed during service to ensure it was fresh. The staff were very helpful and friendly although they had limited command of English which for us added to the charm. The swimming pool although not big was clean and ample for it's purpose. A refreshing treat. I can't fault the hotel location or the welcome or cleanliness. I would not hesitate to recommend it. The evening meal we had was a little pricy (started at 25 euro's for a two course meal up to about 50 euro's per person, 16 euro's for a cheap bottle on wine ranging to very expensive). That said we couldn't fault the food it's self and service (which was Cordon Bleu style incl half pigeon, sole etc...). To eat elsewhere would mean a short drive.
The owners and staff were very friendly and welcoming. The venue is set in a beautiful setting and the food was very good. some kind of animal was running up and down on the ceiling of our bedroom that scared us in the middle of the night and the owners just said that it happened but had no solution for it. We paid 190 euros a night and we would have expected a bit more than a shrug.
Excellent ambience and peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings. Easy access to local amenities, motorways and attractive villages for exploration. Our hosts were friendly, informative about the local area and places to visit and nothing is too much trouble. None.
Lovely house, furnishings and garden. Hosts charming. Evening meal, poor value for money - good home cooking but not gourmet as you'd expect for the price. Poor bathroom. Also house surrounded by roads and traffic noise.
the chateau was quite beautiful...enjoyed staying there we were the only ones staying there on one of the nights of our visit...it was as if we weren't even there...shouldn't we still have been treated the same as if the chateau was full?! was rather unhappy with that,
I like staying in a chateau. It was warm, comfortable and the owners were friendly and helpful. The aperitif before dinner was enjoyable. It is so interesting meeting people from other countries. The gardens could have been prettier, but it was all lovely. No.
The ambiance, easy to find and to park. Friendly, welcoming owners and staff. Very attractive public rooms. Lack of ventilation in bathroom which was in the eaves of the chateau. Poor positioning of bathroom lighting for use of mirror. Room and Dinner expensive compared to other "Chateaux Hotels" we have stayed in.
A wonderful trip back into history
Relaxed atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff
The atmosphere The room was the worst I have stayed in so far this trip.
Very convenient for the autoroute system on our journey from the Lot to Caen. Secure car parking and a good restaurant next door.
I have stayed here in February 2008 and knew what to expect. The hotel is ok for a night
The hotel was easy to find and very convenient - not far from the Motorway. It was inconvenient that there was not a restaurant at the hotel.
Easy to find - signposted from just off the motorway. Did not have coffee/tea making facilities in the room.
Good position for travel. Facilities that one would expect. Noisy road. Could do with more pillows (we had 3 in the room)
The hotel was easy to find, clean and welcoming and there is an excellent restaurant next door
Very close to the A28, easy parking, comfortable room with a kettle and tea bag - luxury!
location was the best factor in my choice in staying at this hotel. The rooms were fairly spacious and clean. no airconditioning, the lights in the room, carpets slightly worn
It was a very convenient stop on our journey across France. The foyee was light and the welcome good Shower did not work properly so that the pressure flooded the floor. Bathroom hook too high. Only one large towel for 2 people. Room quite small. Carpet dirty. Bed hard. Publicity said eating places in vicinity. Without taking the car. there was (it was Monday) only a half finished supermarket cafe on a dark building site
location for motorway goood no restaurant and only one good restaurant near hotel which although was excellent was expensive
The proprietors were very welcoming and friendly. Dinner was also very good. The rooms were very 'tired' - need updating. No hairdryer - shower head didn't have anywhere to attach it to - had to hold it! Small en suite.
Fantastic welcome from the family owners, and the food is just amazing - really special but still good value. They went out of their way to welcome our baby and find suitable (but still gourmet) meal for our allergic toddler, and the restaurant was obviously popular with locals too.
The owners were friendly but we stayed on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was closed. We had to travel to another village to eat. We picked the hotel because it had a restaurant.
Food superb staff friendly and helpful Shower fitting broken unable to hang shower from the wall had to hand hold
The staff were very friendly & helpful. The chef (owner) spoke excellent English. It is located in a pretty square. The rooms, although dated, were very clean. The room was inexpensive. Unfortunately we didn't try the restaurant. The rooms are dated and could do with a complete refurbishment which I understand is in progress. The bathroom was small and the shower holder was broken.
The very warm welcome by the young owners Olivier and Sonia. The meal we had was absolutely superb and excellent value for money.Clean bedding and comfortable bed. We will return to see the progress made next year. The hotel room was now very tired and the owners are aware of this as they have many plans for refurbishing by next spring. Shower "room" rather basic as was electrical toilet.
The room was fine decor a little tired in need of sprucing up. Staff were very friendly, efficient. Dinner in the evening was very good, a most enjoyable meal.
The current owners are fairly new to the hotel. The food/dining room were both very good. Bedrooms are a bit drab and need attention. It is intended but it all takes time and money. A good stopping off point. No.
Hotel was lovely,Staff very accomodating and helpful.
This was a stop off on route to South of France and was a very pleasant find with excellent food. Our bathroom was very small
Restaurant was good, the quality of the room was good. Could not check in until 6:00pm on the Saturday even though on the booking form it said from midday. Had to wait until someone arrived to check out by 8:30.
Catherine & Plillipe were superb hosts, really looked after us, and have made the rooms very stylish and comfortable There was nothing to dislike
We picked this hotel because it could accomodate an extra bed for our daughter in the room. In actual fact we got a separate adjoining room which contained a sofa bed and sink, which was reasonable value for €75 although the furniture was a bit old and grubby. Our room also had a balcony overlooking the garden (the others don't), which had a swing that our 4-year old daughter enjoyed playing on. The hotel is very dated & needs a good clean and re-decorate. I read in the description it had recently been renovated - maybe the public areas have but the rooms themselves are shabby. The location is also pretty bad - right on a busy main road in the middle of nowhere, no facilities nearby at all. We were very disappointed on arrival. The town of Falaise (30 mins away) has better places to stay.
Excellent restaurant Rooms were a bit scruffy
Rooms were clean and comfortable and staff friendly and welcoming It was a shame that neither the restaurant nor bar were open on Sunday evening
The Lion D'Or is clearly a work in progress with the major renovations currently taking place, which were noted on the website. The service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is very attractively set out and demonstrates the aspirations of the young couple. The menus were creative and the food beautifully presented. Our room had an obvious musty damp smell and the table lamps really need to be adjacent to the bed.
Spoke english, clean, tidy, welcoming We asked for a bed for a 4 year old and got a cot... so I slept on the floor.
Excellent food - outside on th terrace, very quiet, a really nice room with both bath and shower.
The room was spacious and very comfortable and the staff extremely friendly.
The staff was very helpful and attentive. The food was excellent. We were not told the hotel was being remodeled. The entire first floor was gutted. There was a very strong odor of paint in our room. It was making my companion sick so we had to leave. A major pain, and delayed our business appointments.
Charming hotel with perfect service. Excellent value for money. Very good dinner. Nothing
Ecouche is a lovely rural little town with an interesting history. The food in the hotel should be Michelin starred because it is exquisite. I would recommend the hotel to anyone.
We booked the double room special offer for 1 night. The initial room offered was rather small however the receptionist offered us a larger room which was fine. the staff were friendly and the room was clean.
The hotel was superbly placed for the ferry at Ouistreham and easy to reach off the motorway. The food was excellent and everything very clean. The village, historically , was very interesting and well signposted with information. All in all the ideal spot for us. We aim to use it regularly on our frequent trips. Nothing serious but I would like to have found someone in reception on my arrival. However, I know it is a small hotel and the staff work very hard. When the staff were around, they were extremely kind and helpful.
