Entry restrictions
Austria has opened its borders to travelers arriving from the Schengen Area, or from Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican. However, travel from outside of the EEA remains restricted for travelers who are not nationals of an EU/Schengen/ country, and flights remain suspended from certain areas.
Austria has restricted all flights from the UK and South Africa until January 24.
Austrian nationals, permanent residents, D-visa holders, and EEA nationals and their immediate family members may still enter Austria. Diplomats, humanitarian aid workers, people traveling on business, healthcare professionals, and members of emergency/rescue/ambulance crews may also enter the country, and travelers with an immediate connecting flight may transit through the country.
Entry requirements
From January 15, all travelers entering Austria will need to register electronically in advance and obtain a pre-travel clearance (PTC). At the border, they will have to show their PTC (either digitally or as a hard copy).
For travelers who may enter the country, the Austrian government has created a list of areas which it considers to be at elevated risk for COVID-19. Anyone traveling to Austria from one of these areas in the last 10 days must be able to present at the border a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 test result issued within 72 hours prior to arrival. Without this document, entry will be refused for anyone without a valid Austrian residence permit.
Quarantine requirements
All travelers arriving in Austria from countries other than Australia, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Uruguay and Vatican City must quarantine for 10 days upon arrival in Austria. They have the option to undertake PCR test or antigen test after 5 days of arrival, at their own expense. If the result is negative, they will no longer need to stay in quarantine. They must fill out and sign a quarantine form, ideally before their travel and will have to hand this in upon arrival.
Austrian residents without a valid medical certificate may enter the country, but will be required to self-isolate for 10 days. Coronavirus tests, which provide the medical certificate, are available for €120 per test on arrival at Vienna and Salzburg airports for travelers with a valid Austrian residence permit. Travelers can present a negative test result to shorten the self-isolation period.
Transiting rules
Travelers transiting through Austria without medical certificate are permitted if they can show proof that they are just transiting.
There are currently 16,136 active cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in AT and 7,199 deaths as of Jan 20 2021

Pros: "Food and workers were great"
Pros: "Good entertainment choices."
Cons: "Seat could be more comfortable"
Pros: "The crew was not very unhelpful & hardly accommodating, not helpful at all. I have never met such a cold hearted airline crew, so unthankful & not trying to help customer. They kept rolling their eyes & speaking like I was a dirt. I will NEVER fly this airline & I will make sure everyone knows."
Cons: "Came early to counter & my passport expires August 9th, so they refuse to help me & did not let me go on board even though I had approval from Jordanian country to fly there. Austerian ticket crew & supervisor did not want even to check the pass through to board with permission. The WORSE airline!!!"
Pros: "Everything:)"
Cons: "My flight was canceled and I received no communication from Austrian Airlines. There was no staff at ticketing counter. The contact number that O’Hare had was a disconnected Verizon number, which was the same number listed on their website. I had to call the international number where I was told I was rebooked on United with 2 layovers instead of one. I also lost my business class upgrade and was told there was nothing they could do about it."
Pros: "The wafer bar. Pilot had a good landing in high winds and snow."
Cons: "Nothing to complain."
Pros: "Everything went very well! Boarding was easy, the flight was smooth with little turbulence, we arrived on time, the crew was friendly and attentive, the food was good!"
Cons: "Everything was very smooth, except that the seats were not very comfortable!"
Pros: "The crew and the service was excellent. Dinner was excellent. The hot breakfast never came. We were served a roll and one small cup of coffee with no refills. That was my only complaint. On a long overseas flight I think a hot breakfast would have been better than a roll."
Pros: "They were really good with checking in my excess baggage and my two cats. Cats travelled well and arrived as expected. Check in at O'Hare was very friendly. In the air, flight attendants were very accommodating and friendly. All luggage and cats arrived! The plane from O'Hare to Austria was very nice!"
Cons: "I think I have gotten used to Asiana's and Korean Airlines'. It just didn't seem to measure up to their business class service. The food (which has been highly rated!) I found to be just mediocre. Maybe it's because I was living in Asia for eight years and had become more accustom to asian cuisine?? I didn't love the seat either. When you recline, your feet are cramped inside a small area under the seat in front of you. It was cramped. The ability to customize the seat recline was limited. I like being able to move the head and feet into my own customized position. The business class seats from Vienna to Amman felt like coach."
Pros: "Overall it was a good trip and staff was helpful."
Pros: "Very good flight crew. Decent food and nice entertainment."
Cons: "Poor web site. Very poor boarding crew. Boarding crew made no announcements for who must get re-elected ticketed for shares carrier tucked or web site ticketed passengers. No prep boarding plan given therefore mass at gate."
Pros: "Except eventually delay, the flight experience is good."
Pros: "It was perfect, very few people, great service"
Pros: "The check in crew were great. They checked my overweight carry on with no problem for free Free alcohol"
Cons: "The food was not edible"
Pros: "Vino in Plastic cups from 1L"
Cons: "Could Food"

Pros: "Flight"
Cons: "Not enough room in the seat"
Pros: "The food was good"

Cons: "Our flight was cancelled .No explanation at all.Hotel was given to us.Thank you for that.We dear only 4 hours. The following day we were there since 5 in the morning and the first word was 10 o clock flight. After to many hours they decided that they can bring us to Mynih and after that flight to Tirana. So I left home Thursday 2 o clock and arrive in Tirana after 2 days. No luggage until yesterday. It never happen before. But in top of everything my plans in Albania were messed up.I have to pospne my return flight 1 week and the charges are unbelievable tooo much 650 dollars.I am not stopping here.Thank you."
Pros: "People at the desk didn't know or don't wanna say much why we have no plane"
Cons: "I arrived at Vienna on time but to Skopje we had no plans and we hade to wait till 13:40 to board"
Cons: "The aircraft was very old and smelled badly. The toillets didn't work properly and were dirty."
Pros: "Everything was great except seats uncomfortable"
Cons: "Uncomfortable seats"
Pros: "No stops"
Pros: "Would fly with them anytime."
Pros: "So I had to fly to Munich, and rather than flying direct on terrible United, I took a connecting flight via Vienna. Flight was full yet still departed on time and even arrived early. The seat was comfortable and flight went very smoothly. Food served on board was perfectly edible. Disembarking also went without problems. The flight staff even accommodated the requests of a particularly nasty Russian family seated behind me even though they were total jerks. I was very impressed with their professionalism."
Cons: "Nothing. I will make a point of trying to fly via Vienna in the future. Airport is very pleasant and well run."
Pros: "After departing the cluster fk that is O'Hare airport it's such a pleasure to interact with Vienna and Austrian Air. I had 'only' an hour to make the connection, and yet all, that is all, formalities took no more than 10 minutes. I had plenty of time to spare. Waiting area at the gate had plenty of seating and the staff was professional and courteous. We had to gate check bags as the plane was a regional turboprop, but everything went very smoothly."
Pros: "Compared to most American crews the Aus crew was helpful and outstanding."
Cons: "The chicken dinner was not that great and the breakfast was only a muffin, I expected more. On Turkish airlines flight from Ord to Istanbul we got a full breakfast tray."
Pros: "Very carrying crew, kind and attentive"
Cons: "Not too many choices for entertainment, a lot of Asian movies. Food was OK"
Pros: "Nothing"
Cons: "Everything"
Pros: "The service and the overall flight quality, the pilot was very good!"
Pros: "Everything"
Pros: "Very nice and polite crew, great service."
Cons: "Regular breakfast was just a muffin and nothing else :("
Cons: "It was almost 2 hours delayed"
Pros: "Most things were OK"
Cons: "Except a crying baby near me, during first half of the flight"
Cons: "Plane rescheduled, left 55 minutes later than anticipated. I was already preparing for having my luggage lost."
Cons: "After dinners the crew did not remove trays fora long time preventing movement. When the finally did there was a rush for the toilets. Having some toilets out of order compounded the problem Food is ok at best. The morning muffin was terrible A poor comparison to our flight last year on Turkish air"
Pros: "The check- in experience was simple and the seat entertainment system was excellent!"
Cons: "Unfortunately, like any economy class seating, wider seats and more recline ability would be nice."
Cons: "Our baggage did not make it to our final destination"
Pros: "The boarding and exiting of the aircraft was smooth and organized. I really do prefer that passengers be strictly monitored when boarding the plane according to their seats. It really does make sense to board the plane from the rear forward. I realize airlines feel like they have to make their business class passengers feel special, but it really doesn't make sense for passengers to be climbing over one another."
Cons: "I left my entertainment at home in a mad rush to depart which is very unusual for me. As a result, I had to rely on Austrian Airlines' copyright licenses, and they were less than satisfactory. Fortunately, I'm flying back with Lufthansa, so I hope there will be more variety there. The lavatory at the back of the plane was filthy by the end of the flight. I don't understand why the flight attendants feel to good to clean the lavatories for their passengers. We are stuck on a flying can for 9-10 hours and deserve to have clean lavatories during that time. At one point, I was thirty and approached the back of the plane. When I entered the rear galley, the ladies looked at me like I was intruding. If self-service is not available for passengers, then flight attendants should be prepared to serve their customers."
Pros: "I am gluten free, and the stewardess knew what foods I could eat of the desserts and snacks, and I appreciated that there was food that I could eat."
Cons: "I wish the flight lasted longer than the usual 8 hours, such a great experience!"
Cons: "There were no air vents, which made for a hot flight."
Pros: "The crew was the only good thing about this flight/airline."
Cons: "I was very disappointed with Austrian airlines. I was not able to pick my own seat even after I checked in and the actual seats on the plane were extremely small and uncomfortable. This made it impossible for me to enjoy mi flight. A 5'6' person should not have any issues but my knees were touching the seat in front of me. The seat was very narrow - it felt cramped and as if they turned a space designed for 2-4-2 into a 3-4-3. When I called the customer service before the flight to get a seat next to my husband who had a separate reservation, it took about 4 calls before anyone even mentioned that out reservations could be linked together. will not fly Austrian airlines again."
