For a flight to Japan, I thought $1,000 round trip direct from Boston was an excellent price considering you got 2 complete meals and additional snacks. Much more than I expected. Would fly Japan Airlines again."

Cons: "Flight from Taipei to Tokyo was delayed and ultimately cancelled because of "mechanical failure". Many passengers on the flight including us had international connections through Tokyo, with only an hour between flights. It was clear we were all going to miss this connection, but in a frantic and haphazard way, the JAL crew's only solution at the gate was just to get us all on the next flight out to Tokyo (I believe via China Air) no matter what our individual final destinations were. They said "from Narita, they will handle all your connections to your final destination." This was a bizarre solution. Why not reroute us individually on other partner airlines, through other countries/cities, from this international airport in Taipei, like airlines usually do? (Also, all of this disorganized communication by the JAL crew at the gate was never translated into English, I just happen to speak a little mandarin and was able to understand what they were directing us to do). My wife was the one who searched for an alternative route on her phone (through HK instead of Tokyo) via their partner airline Cathay pacific and showed it to the JAL rep at the transfer counter, and through a series of radio and phone calls, only then did they say "there might be seats left", but they couldn't book the seats for us there. In order to make the flight, we had to sprint ourselves to a completely different terminal and concourse to another transfer counter to finally book our seats on this Cathay flight. Needless to say, our luggage did not get pulled from JAL in time to make it on the Cathay flights, so we are waiting 2-3 days for them to hopefully be found and sent to us. Overall, I was completely disappointed by the JAL staff, who didn't take responsibility or ownership of the situation, and who's solution to just fly everyone out to Tokyo, no matter our final destination, and to leave us to figure out our connections there was extremely short-sighted and irresponsible, and was a total disservice to their customers. I expect much more from this airline. On another note, we flew JAL from Boston to Tokyo, and Tokyo to Taipei: the food was terrible and food options were really subpar for an international flight, I would've expected much better from JAL and the dreamliner flight."

The terminal on my ticket was different than the gate number. We went through security and had to take a 15 min shuttle to a different terminal. Why not just go through security there? There were also no attendants at the gate to discuss seat assignments. My husband and I didn’t have seats together. Try on board crew was great, but the airport experience was lacking.

Cons: "We had a connection in Detroit. The flight from Seattle to Detroit arrived about 30 minutes late, and we barely made the connection. Apparently Delta had not told the Detroit-Boston flight to wait a few minutes for us. We did make the connection, but we arrived at the gate with no seat assignment (we had been bumped the day before from our original flight because of a mechanical problem) as the plane was loading. Had we missed the flight, we would have had to spend the night in Detroit and go to Boston the next day. Delta should have told the gate agent that we were coming."

We asked the flight attendants twice for blankets and each time they said no. I know they had extra blankets but for some reason they did not give us one. I thought that sitting in comfort+ they'd at least give us the comfort of a blanket but I guess not... Oh well."

Chaotic boarding is compounded by the back of the plane boarding last.... everywhere else in the world loads everyone together or does the back of the plane first and it's much quicker!"
Pros: "Even though we were in the very back row, we did not experience a foul smell from the restrooms. This was a very nice relief. It is bad enough that the seats don't recline and there is no window in the very back row but prior experience with the added nausea of foul restroom order has been a serious insult to injury. In this case there was really minimal odor. Also since we are traveling as a family we are very happy that we were seated together. We have experienced the past that sometimes our seats will be fragmented and that creates major challenges when you are traveling with young children. However on this particular flight the ride was rough during both takeoff and landing, a lot of side to side shimmy. Also the cabin pressure varied quite a bit during landing causing all the kids to complain about some discomfort in their ears."
Pros: "About 10-15 yrs ago I stopped transatlantic flights on Delta. It was a scruffy airline with uninterested cabin crew & not to talk of food etc. What a change! Neat clean A330, friendly crew & food + beverages to brag (you pay outrageous prices on 'leaner-meaner' airlines if at all available). Loved the whole experience. Flying is not only getting from A to B & Delta has realized it. Looking forward to my next Delta flight!"

We were placed in Row 63, which is the LAST row on the plane and does not recline. For a 15 hour flight this seating should not be used. It is completely unreasonable to think people will be ok not reclining, and honestly the seats felt more straight up than the normal seats. After discussing it with the crew for half an hour on a full flight they were able to move us to other seats. But were unable to move us to business or first for a discount. End point: these seats should not be used! It was so miserable even thinking we might get stuck with them. And if they do stick people there you should be comped, that was not worth the same fare everyone else payed for coach."

The flight ended up getting delayed 30 minutes, then another 30, then an hour, and longer until the flight was delayed 5 hours total. China Southern employees at HAN wouldn’t move us to new flights and tried to tell us that we would make our layover in CAN despite this flight landing at 11:15 and our flight from CAN leaving at 10:05. We checked online and found there were no flights out of CAN to SFO until 24 hours later, yet there was a routing directly out of HAN. We told the employees it would be useless for them to fly us to CAN because we would be stuck there. They ignored us and told us it was fine and to fly to China. When we tried to explain, the employee simply walked away. We landed in CAN and were met with employees who first told us at 12:30pm flight to LAX the next day was booked full and they wanted us to wait 24 hours. When I told them that wasn’t true, they recanted and said “oh we can get you on the flight.” I asked for compensation since this was the second layover that was missed because of airline failure and a manager at the Transfer Desk told us he could not upgrade us to premium seating because all the seating was sold out. When we finally sat on the 12:30PM flight to LAX we found that not only did Economy have open seats, but so did premium seating. We were lied to by the manager at the Transfer Desk in CAN and when we explained the situation to flight attendants that we wanted one of the open seats they told us no. In addition, during our overnight stay in CAN due to China Southern employees at HAN not switching our routing, we were put in a hotel that smelled of smoke and had water stains in the room. We were woken up early to catch a shuttle back to the airport and when we arrived at the airport to ask for food vouchers to eat breakfast since our layover was longer than 12 hours, we were also told no. Overall I am completely dissatisfied with both flights on China Southern. I was lied to, cheated, and held up over 24 hours in China due to airline mistake and their unwillingness to book us new tickets. I spent hours at airports talking to airline employees and because of these hours spent we should be reimbursed for our flight."

Then she proceeded tell an additional security check right before the doors to check me because I was suspicious. She followed this will telling them to check me thoroughly and slowly. This made me even madder because I was the only one they did this to. Everyone else that was randomly (randomly I might add because it is supposed to be random) got swiped with a little wipe and was let through. I had to take articles of clothing off and have all by carry on bags gone through. Even my 6 year old sons whose bag I was carrying because he couldn't. This set off my son by the way who doesn't do well with the stress of boarding because of all the people (which is why we needed to pre-board the plane). So I had to have a friend leave with him to board the plane and couldn't be there for him because of this one agents problem of me not doing what she said and standing up for myself and my family. Oh, and by the way I was very respectful when speaking with her and their could have been no confusion between the language as I was speaking to her in Chinese."

Offboarded and sprinted across the airport for our international connection and was notified by gate attendents that the gate closed five minutes ago and that they could not let us on the plane. Meanwhile, the plane sat there for an additional 30 minutes while it fueled and waited for release from air traffic control. There were six travelers total stuck there in San Fran at that gate, all of us begging to be let on the plane to Beijing, the last one for over 24 hours. Zero compassion from staff at the the airline gate. They did not care about us and did not care about leaving their travelers stranded. Our total travel was Denver to Bangkok, 26 hours of travel including layovers in San Fran and Beijing. In San Fran (after missing the gate connection), we were rerouted us through Haiwaii and the customer service agent that did this reroute did not finish the reroute to our final destination. We got to Haiwaii and were stranded again, at the Air China service desk for four hours having to once again provide documentation of our initial travel plans to Bangkok, having them build a new itinerary to our final destination. Overall, 20 additional travel hours have been added to our itinerary, almost double our initial travel time. We have had to call and cancel pre-arranged bookings in Thailand as we are now missing two full days off our trip. I am absolutely disappointed and heart broken as I write this still stuck in the Beijing airport waiting another six hours to connect to Bangkok. My fiancé and I were traveling to Thailand to get married and have received no compassion from anyone at this airline to try and get us there. I am flat out disgusted by Air China."

Thankfully we were able to get on the stand by flight at noon but due to the rush of getting our standby tickets barely an hour before the flight we ended up losing our costly contact lenses at security checkpoint and when my wife called China Air representative to mail the lost items back to LAX when we could pick them up we got no help but have to find some courier service and we are still having trouble getting our items back."

Every flight that I took with them (4 total) left late and my luggage did not arrive in LA on my way back to the USA. Their baggage office was not helpful and when I tried to call them over the next several days they never answered or responded to messages left on the machine or via email. The in flight is good on the ground it is terrible."
