I didn’t have the issues checking in that many have mentioned. I did have pay 140€ to check my bags because it wasn’t included in my fare. My advice is prepay for baggage, it’s much cheaper.

Left late (and therefore arrived late) due to starting the boarding process late and slow boarding. I wouldn't go so far as to say the attendants were rude, but they were not friendly, either. Could not check in online ahead of time due to flying with a US passport (which was not a problem with, for example, British Airways, flying from London to Rome).

Horrible experience with Alitalia. They boarded us on a plane that had a wheel issue, and kept us on the ground for 2 hours before they decided to de-plane us. We then had to wait in a 5+ HOUR LINE to get rerouted (nope, they won't handle these issues online or over the phone, you have to wait in line). And THEN they wanted us to wait in a 2 hour line to re-drop off our bags. We got stuck overnight in Rome and were put in a horrible Hilton Garden Inn and barely made it in time to use our coupon for a "free meal" (aka, frozen meatballs and stale bread in a buffet that had been sitting out all night). On our flight back, the food was absolutely terrible, the movie selections were old and scarce, and the seats were uncomfortable. We called to complain as soon as we got home and still have not heard back from Alitalia. I will never fly with them again.

We flew Miami to Zurich, then Zurich to Rome. The international leg was awesome. The intra-European flight was less impressive. We “self-boarded” which was new to us - and wasn’t explained. The seats were smaller and there was only the drop down screens for every 2-3 rows, but otherwise, for a less than 2 hr flight, it was fine.

Boarding wasn’t fully explained for those of us who are not Swiss or German. I slept thru “lunch,” which apparently was a sandwich - but that’s more than many American airlines provide you on similar flights!

Staff and flight were great. We were surrounded by kind of rude flyers. They complained when my husband moved the seat back. And they were just standing in the aisle most of the time. Person in front of me stretched her arms over the seat so her hands were dangling in front of me and fingers in my screen. I know we were in coach, but maybe another inch of separation would be nice for such long flights.

It took nearly an hour to get through the 10 people ahead of us. And then we were told that my 1 bag would cost $53 to check-in and that I would have to go to another counter in a far away part of the airport to pay...and we had 20 minutes before boarding. Afger running to the cashier, we were told that she had no time and that we should go back to the agent to pay! We ran back and paid, then went to look for our gate. It was finally listed as Gate 12. We got though security ok and got into the line for Gate 12. It was more like a scrum tan a line. Nobod seemed to be doing anything when all at once we saw people boarding. We went to the gate but were told that our flight was boarding at Gate 10!!! WTF??? Gate 12 listed our flight number and Gate 10 listed another flight, but we did as were told and boarded via Gate 10. None of other passengers knew what the hell was going on but we all made it to Rome along with our baggage. We will NEVER fly Alitalia again.

Audacious prices for checked luggage. If you pay online prior to check-in €25 per bag If you pay at check in it is €45 per bag. This is downright theft by all the airlines who engage in this very profitable but nefarious activity and really needs to be stopped. First bag should be free/ nominal charge or at least part of the ticket price. (It is like a restaurant charging for cutlery and plates so you can eat . Would that be acceptable??)

Flight attendants were great, friendly, courteous and responsive. The relaxation and mediation program was great! Boarding was fluent and easy.

No matter what you try to order on the airplane is totally disgusting. If it's not overloaded with cheese and tomato sauce then it's overcompensated with spices (salt or chili). I will never understand why it is so hard to provide simple, fresh and enjoyable meals. Chairs in economy are rarely cleaned up and one can see on the cushions that they are worn out and have lost their padding making the seats very uncomfortable. There was no foot rest available (which is such a simple addition that helps a lot) and the "holder pocket" on the seat in front was a simple net completely useless. Tables were dirty suggesting they were never cleaned and disinfected. Knowing that the highest source of viruses are the tray tables and the pockets in front I would expect attention to be focused on those- it not only impacts the health of the traveler but more important that of the crew. Why is it so hard to think of this business two fold: make revenue but mostly be kind to humans.

I hope this carrier grows by leaps and bounds. The plane was new & clean, the pilots executed flawless takeoff & landing, the flight attendants were friendly to a fault, the plane left on time & arrived early. Round trip Orlando-Venice was $980 round trip. The only niggling detail was the somewhat limited selection of movies.

I was late ( I had to drive 230 Km ) and I managed to call in advance the company that was doing the check-in on behalf of SWISS - I asked them the Check-in time closing time and by almost flying ( speeding like crazy ) I arrived before that moment.

I did not check the terms and conditions of the ticket. I am a Star Alliance Gold member and I was expecting SWISS to have a similar booking system like the others I fly with. I found out that the ticket fare did not contain checked luggage ( so I had to pay a hefty fee for it ) and also my 20" wheeled case that was ok in all the other flights I took it with me, this time was oversized and overweight . My wife took out the 2 laptops so it became within weight limits but still oversized - My wife paid for the fee ( I wasn't there at the time and she is not a such experienced flyier as I am ) . When I found out about the fee, I checked their rules and I found out that the hand luggage is allowed to be 22" . I saw in the airplane a lot of people with cases having the same size as mine, that went as checked luggage at a cost fo around 40 . I want to see how can I get my money back . . .

Lufthansa arranged for pickup with a van upon disembarking from my late flight from Pisa and took me through a special passport and security checkpoint so that I was able to catch my MUC-SFO flight. Flight departed late, but pilot made up all tge lost time in flight. Crew was professional, very polite and efficient.

Flight attendants were great, friendly, courteous and responsive. The relaxation and mediation program was great! Boarding was fluent and easy.

No matter what you try to order on the airplane is totally disgusting. If it's not overloaded with cheese and tomato sauce then it's overcompensated with spices (salt or chili). I will never understand why it is so hard to provide simple, fresh and enjoyable meals. Chairs in economy are rarely cleaned up and one can see on the cushions that they are worn out and have lost their padding making the seats very uncomfortable. There was no foot rest available (which is such a simple addition that helps a lot) and the "holder pocket" on the seat in front was a simple net completely useless. Tables were dirty suggesting they were never cleaned and disinfected. Knowing that the highest source of viruses are the tray tables and the pockets in front I would expect attention to be focused on those- it not only impacts the health of the traveler but more important that of the crew. Why is it so hard to think of this business two fold: make revenue but mostly be kind to humans.

We flew Miami to Zurich, then Zurich to Rome. The international leg was awesome. The intra-European flight was less impressive. We “self-boarded” which was new to us - and wasn’t explained. The seats were smaller and there was only the drop down screens for every 2-3 rows, but otherwise, for a less than 2 hr flight, it was fine.

Boarding wasn’t fully explained for those of us who are not Swiss or German. I slept thru “lunch,” which apparently was a sandwich - but that’s more than many American airlines provide you on similar flights!

I hope this carrier grows by leaps and bounds. The plane was new & clean, the pilots executed flawless takeoff & landing, the flight attendants were friendly to a fault, the plane left on time & arrived early. Round trip Orlando-Venice was $980 round trip. The only niggling detail was the somewhat limited selection of movies.
