Jamaica has reopened its borders to international travelers.
Travelers residing in Jamaica for a minimum of six continuous months in a calendar year must complete a travel authorization before departure.
Travelers not residing in Jamaica must present a travel authorization before departure obtained at https://www.visitjamaica.com.
Residents of the US, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama who are 12 years of age or over are required to present a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test result issued within 10 days prior to departure.
Travelers are subject to medical screening and could be subject to a 14-day quarantine.
All travelers arriving in Jamaica will be subject to the following quarantine requirements:
Category 1: Jamaican nationals and non-nationals ordinarily resident in Jamaica - may be subject to testing if assessed as high-risk and are required to remain in quarantine at home for 14 days from their date of entry to Jamaica.
Category 2: Non-residents visiting Jamaica for tourism purposes and staying at approved “resilient corridor” accommodation - may be tested at the airport or a designated facility, and would wait for the results in travelers hotel rooms. If the test is negative, they would remain at their hotel/resort within the “resilient corridor” and restricted to property under the “Stay in Resilient Corridor” measure. Details of ‘resilient corridor’ accommodation can be found on the Visit Jamaica website.
Category 3: Non-residents visiting Jamaica for business purposes - all residents of the US, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama travelling to Jamaica for business purposes are required to upload a COVID-19 RT-PCR test in order to obtain a Travel Authorization. The test should be conducted within 10 days of the intended travel date. Business travelers will also be tested on arrival at the airport in Jamaica. They will wait for their test results under a “Quarantine for Business Traveller” measure at their hotel/intended address. If the test is negative, they would be released from quarantine and be under a “Stay at Intended Address for Business Travellers” measure for a period of 14 days from their date of entry to Jamaica or for the duration of their stay if shorter than 14 days.
Category 4: Non-residents visiting Jamaica for other purposes including tourists not staying within the “resilient corridor” - travelers who are not required to pre-test may be required to be tested at the airport or other designated facility, if assessed by the health authorities as high-risk. They will then wait for their test results under quarantine at their hotel/intended address. Whether they need to be tested or not, travelers need to remain in quarantine at home for 14 days from the date of entry to Jamaica. If travelers needed to be tested and the test is negative, they must remain in quarantine at home for 14 days from the date of entry to Jamaica.
Travelers tested positive for COVID-19 will be isolated either at home or in a government facility as determined by the health authorities.

Adding insult to injury, my baggage was over 30 minutes late, too."

Cons: "I arrived at the gate 1.5 hours in advance to get my seat assigned. They had already determined that I was not going to board the plane because of overweight. Obviously, instead of taking less cargo they decided to leave 15 passengers behind. My flight was supposed to leave at 9am and it wasn't until 12pm that I got my new flight. This one was out of Panama at 18h so I ended up arriving at my final destination, PDX ,about 14 hours late. Besides waiting on the new schedule I had to argue with them for another couple of hours to get a hotel room. I made it to PDX one day later but my luggage did not make it. Of course, I couldn't make it to my office that day. To make things worse it took two hours on the phone to get to a person on Copa's the customer service only to tell me that they couldn't do anything on the phone I had to go to their office. The only inconvenience is that their closest office is in San Francisco."

There was not only a security checkpoint in PTY transferring from David to the LAX flight, but another security checkpoint AT THE GATE! Having just overpaid $3 for a bottle of water past the 1st checkpoint, I then had to pour it out at the gate checkpoint. Nothing to indicate that there was a 2nd checkpoint with the same liquid restrictions."

They were also very unwilling to accommodate me in a nearby hotel all expenses paid to wait for those hours as compensation...but gave first class tickets to other passengers as compensation."

We had previously booked and paid for Main Cabin extra seats in the second row that included extra leg room and free drinks. We ended in an airplane with two exit rows, one near the front and the other near the back. Our seats were right behind the rear exit row in the back of the plane. The seats did not recline and there was limited leg look because the exit row seats were aligned differently due to the crew seat next to the door. Also, the bathroom was right in front of the row in front of us and so it was busy, noisy and smelled. Obviously we didn't get our free drinks either. Now I'm having to fight with American trying to get a refund of the money we spent for the Main Cabin extra fees. The fun never stops. I will never fly American again."

Pros: "The customer service phone number was impossible to get through on in order to take to someone within 24 hours of my flight in order to make my Special Meals request as I have Celiac's Disease. I was unable to make this selection at booking as when you book through a third party like Expedia, which I did, you cannot access the same internal tools required to make that selection. You can ONLY then call once you have checked in before the flight in order to let the airline know of your Special Meal needs. This is not only a terrible policy as it undercuts those who ARE ultimately still buying tickets to their airline, and that the airline is CHOOSING to sell. It provided me with an extremely subpar experience of the airline but left up to the last minute with doubts about my ability to board a 13 he international flight without the reassurance that I would have ANY meals aboard and no other options should that be the case. Right before my flight departed I was reassured that the information we had requested Expedia relay to the airline internally the day before, who we called when we couldn't get through to the airline, WAS able to convey this Special Meal request and I was going to have food on the flight, so I then did not purchase a bunch of snacks in the airport to have as options. The first meal in, no Special Meal was provided and I had to explain then entire situation all over again. They assured me they would figure it out and get me taken care of. However, no one who assisted me conveyed this to anyone else on the flight and every time food was dispersed, same situation. This was stressful and exhausting and the options provided me were modified to be gluten free, such as an entire plate of fruit for my snack, instead of the protein heavy snack everyone else received, because there truly wasn't extra for that type of dietary restriction. This was stressful and I was very hungry on the flight. One of the attendants got me a few chunks of cheese from first class, but otherwise, it wasn't great. I would advise travelers with Special Meal requests NOT to fly with AirCanada."

The overall food options were not very diverse in terms of the food groups. I thought plane food had improved in the last decade or so, but not on this flight."

According to captain " a strange item was beside his cockpit seat and that took an hour. I assume he didn't recognize his empty Oreo box. How do you allow someone to drop a strange box in the cockpit. 3. Taxi out and a switch won't work. Sit there for 45 minutes. "We were able to reset it." Go 100 yards. Stop. "Need to do another reset." Doesn't work. Takes corporate 30 minutes to decide what to do. Return to terminal for maintenance on phantom problem. 4. Sit at terminal for a couple hours. No one allowed off. Beverages are all warm. Crew serves warm water and crappy sugar-bomb pretzels. Passengers get sick. Won't let anyone off. 5. Finally gets in the air. Crew has nothing but snacks; no real food. Beverages are warm. 6. EVERYONE misses connections."

She either didn't know how to or was unwilling to verify our infant in arms' ticket, check our baggage, or receive a cash payment for our checked bags after she sent us to the kiosk for a third time. She never greeted us and only addressed us when absolutely necessary but had plenty of time to talk with her coworkers. It took nearly an hour for her to process our check in. After placing several calls prior to my departure date to confirm that my 40 inch TV was ok for transportation , it wasn't until I got to the airport to find out that I was unable to take the TV or the TV stand.. I live in Philadelphia and had nowhere to leave it causing me to give it to a stranger in order to make my flight . I am very distraught that the information indicating there was an embargo restricting the transportatione of TV greater 32 inches or boxes to Montego Bay was not given during any of those calls.. I don't understand why that information was not sent in an email prior.. On top of that I placed a call to customs in Montego Bay and was adviced that the embargo is enforced by the airline not customs... If I could some how get some answers regarding this I would appreciate it..."

But once we got to the right gate our plane was cancel or re-gated/scheduled three times. We had to walk all over the airport with less and less time to spare to make our flight out. When asking for direction or where to go we could never get a straight answer, it seem as if no one knew where to send us. I felt if I was being herded and hustled on getting a flight home, I had no choice in the matter of getting my flight out. If it wasn't for another passenger flying on the same plane we may have missed our flight all together because she was getting alerts on her phone for changes or updates. Once on the flight the air-condition was linking on one of our seat and we were first told to put a blanket over our head until take off, then we saw some empty seats so we asked to move. Once arriving at Cleveland airport we only discover our luggage had not arrived yet, not only did it not arrive we were told it had not yet left London Hethrow Airport and we would maybe get it in 24 hours. This was a problem because some of our personals we needed were in that luggage and we just had to make due and wait and see. We got our luggage the next day only for me to notice my lock was not on my luggage I do not know if this was taken off or I mistakenly left it off but I really do not think I did but I will check with the hotel to see if I left it there. I have always liked United but this really made me think on who to plan my next trip with later this year. And certainly will do my best to avoid coming through New Jersey. :("
