Members of the US Armed Forces, spouses, and children of members of the US Armed Forces;
Travelers with invitation of the USA government for a purpose related to the containment/mitigation of the Coronavirus (COVID-19);
Travelers with documents issued by the US Department of Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Protection, or US Department of State indicating that the traveler is exempt from the restriction;
B1 crew crewmembers that are engaged in lightering, Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) activity, wind farm activity, private air/sea crew and other similar crewmember activities;
Students with an F-1 or M-1 visa and their F-2 and M-2 dependents, if they arrive from or have been in Ireland, the UK or Schengen Area in the past 14 days.
Travelers returning to the US are advised to stay home as much as possible, avoid being around people and consider getting tested for COVID-19 after returning from travel and participated in higher risk activities.

Pros: "Being in economy seats for 12+ hours could have felt more cramped, because I'm a big guy. However, there was adequate space as long as the kid in the next seat has had adequate parenting. (That was a problem, but I can't blame that on the airline.) The flight attendants were helpful and friendly."

Never say please. When I got to LAX, I needed to wait for the very last luggage for me to find out that my luggage was left in Guangzhou. No apologies whatsoever and was given a direction to file a report. Very sad experience."

Cons: "Flight was 1 1/2 hours late and China Southern had shortened the connection time in Guanzough, China to Kuala Lumpur. In spite of me asking the crew to contact China Southern in Guanzough, no assistance was given. 'Service' by China Southern in Guanzough was NON-EXISTENT! We missed our flight to Kual Lumpur --where we had a driver waiting, a hotel for 2 nights, and a tour the next day. We lost ALL of those and did not arrive in Kuala Lumpur until 2PM the next day. Timing was CRITICAL that we be in Kuala Lumpur the night before per the schedule. China Southern served no beer or liquor on their international flight --only cheap wine in the smallest plastic glasses I have ever seen."

Cons: "The food was something you can get on the average street corner in Shanghai for about 1.00 USD. I understand costs are important, but a steamed piece of bread and a foil packet of pickled vegetables is a bit of a stretch. The gate agents were less than helpful. I usually get an upgrade with my Delta status on partner airlines. Nope, not on this flight. I requested it and they said it is not possible on China Southern. I showed them my boarding pass from less than 48 hrs before on the same airline... they looked bewildered. Boarding was the usual "every man for himself". Zones? Classes? Awards members? Not in Shenzhen..."
Cons: "My experience with flying China Southern for my flights from SFO to BKK and HAN to SFO was the worst that I have ever experienced in my many years traveling for work and leisure. I took this trip with Connor Logan (booked separately) and we both received the same service. To start, when we arrived at SFO we were told our flight was delayed for 7 hours due to mechanical failure and that we would be unable to make our connecting flight in CAN. Even though we had checked the flight status the morning of the flight, there was no information updated. When I spoke to a China Southern employee, she told me that she was informed the Night Before when her boss called her into work because they knew an entire flight would have to be rerouted, yet they did not even warn passengers the morning of the flight. After being changed to a new flight plan, we struggled to get proper help to get our tickets with United and China Eastern because there were some issues with paper tickets that China Southern gave versus the tickets that United accepted. It took 4 hours of confusion in SFO and a stressful quick layover in Shanghai. We did not feel taken care of."

Pros: "Long flight, but one of the best we've flown. The flight times make a huge difference and China Southern really impressed with their itinerary and price. The A380 may be my favorite plane now too. Kids loved the movie selection, they ate both meals and they slept in between. Can't ask for more. One child got sick during flight but the stewardesses were very helpful. Will keep them in our top options going forward."

We took our chances and they got our family of 7 seats together on all 4 legs of our flights! It's a risk, but they seem to be very accommodating to families. Don't waste the money paying extra"

I had a long layover and they put us in a dump of a hotel too far from the airport to get back by myself, with no staff able to communicate with any English, no working internet, and not even a map. I had wanted to visit a nearby city and instead had to spend 19 hours in a bad hotel. They also confiscated my external battery from my checked luggage (my fault) but have provided no way for me to get it back unless I'm in China."
