Pros: "Although the aircraft is dated, the seating was reasonably comfortable. We were fortunate in have a row of 3 seats for the two of us on the way home which made it feel significantly more spacious than outbound. The meals were appreciated and tasty."

Cons: "went to the airport to checkin for my flight from lax to panama, with a connecting flight to sao paulo, only to be told that because i didn't select a seat when i bought my ticket over 2 months prior, the airlines sold my seat (they overbooked the flight by 5 people or so). i had to wait at lax for the next flight, which wasn't until 8 hours later. the problem here was that i had bought a ticket to get to rio from sao paulo, and this delay made me miss that flight. so i had to buy another ticket, which was $175. i was only compensated a $400 voucher for missing the flight and for my time. not worth it. the airlines only provide you with a blanket. no pillow."

There was a delay because the flight crew came from another arriving flight, so they had to go through the full pre-flight checklist. Then there was a "minor maintenance issue" that couldn't be fixed right away because it was "shift change" for the maintenance crews. Eventually they arrived and fixed whatever, while everyone was getting texts and alerts that kept delaying the departure by 15-minute intervals. Over an hour (while sitting in a warm plane) after the original scheduled departure, we left the gate, sat on the taxiway a while, then took off. Cabin crew only had cookies and drinks, no other snacks or food. All anyone got was an apology for the extended delay."

The canceled flight was due to weather, but AA's response was to connect those of us stranded with a 3rd party vendor - Travelliance - with the promise of a SUBSTANTIAL discount for a hotel (SINCE THE NEXT FLIGHT I WAS GIVEN WAS 17 HOURS LATER!) - and there was, effectively, NO DISCOUNT. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars with you over the years, but this was a bucker of water in the face. I'm sure I'll fly with you again, but any sort of good will I held for AA is gone."

Then we were starving and willing to purchase food. By the time they got to us, they were out of food. What?!?! We were willing to pay! Rude personnel. Horrible all around. Hate America. United is better."

Cons: "After having my flight delayed 4 hours causing me to miss my connection, I was placed stand by on a different flight through another city so I could try and make it home on time. I was the first person in line for stand by, but the flight was full so I knew it was a long shot. Waiting at the gate, I was excited because one person didn't show and they were giving him a two minute wait time before I could board. During this wait time a woman passenger came over and said she had just been given a ticket change at the gate counter. The agent at the gate was furious because the flight was sold out and said the woman should not have received a ticket, but should have been placed on stand by. She went over and scolded the other agent for this mistake. Okay, so she should've been placed on STAND BY behind me in line. After the unprofessional arguing between the two agents, they both admitted it was a mistake and she should be second in line for stand by, BUT they did not honor this and placed her on the plane bumping me. Needless to say, I missed my connecting flight because of this and extremely inconvenienced my family and in addition had to pay an extra 75 dollars out of my pocket to keep my dogs at their kennel an extra night because I arrived home 5 hours after expected. I understand that flights end up getting delayed and the agents are doing the best they can to accommodate travelers, but admitting a mistake and not fixing it to make it right is unacceptable. I notified American Airlines of my situation and only received a form letter with enough miles to get me 1/8 of a flight. I don't even care about the miles because I don't plan to ever fly with them again, I want the money for the dog kennel I had to pay extra. I was visiting my husband who serves in the US Army causing separation from our family for long periods of time and this extra headache and expense due to the mistake of American Airlines was disheartening."

Cons: "The issue that I had primarily was that they had a huge line at check in, like 45+ mins, where no other carrier even had a single person waiting. While sometimes you can't avoid this, based on conversations with others in the line there was no delay, this was just business as usual. To make matters worse, there was actually several self service kiosks that you could use if you weren't checking a bag but because the lines were so long and the communication so poor no one knew they were there. Having a long line may be unavoidable, but forcing people that don't have to to wait in it is just dumb. It seemed like there was a lot that could be improved on without increasing costs like better signage and communication."

After producing my boarding pass Nothing was done to get me home. The solutions provided at the check in counter were not acceptable. "We have another flight 24 hours from now, no we won't find you a hotel room" "We can refund you 1/4 the cost of a new different flight to get you home since we messed up" "We can put you on stand by incase people don't show up for the flight" Ultimately these morons paid several passengers to get off the plane to get me and my companion home. Giving these other passengers more than what I was requesting to begin with including a slightly later flight on a different carrier and a round trip voucher for later use on spirit. This is the worst run and least efficient airline I have EVER used. I will never use spirit again."

Worst of all our flight back from LAX was over 4 hours late and because of Spirits schedule problems not the weather. Spirit did not even give us peanuts or water after their mix up. PLEASE NO NOT FLY SPIRIT AIRLINES, THEY ARE THE WORST!!!"

This is too few for the number of women and children on the flight. The small food area had no water or any food remaining. Only a few cookies, sandwiches and Pepsi. No reading materials. I would hate to be stuck in that space for a long delay because of weather."

Cons: "We had problems using the mobile online check-in and adding bags. When calling to speak to a person about it, they said they could not help us and that we had to do it online. Once we got to the airport, we told 2 different Spirit employees that we needed help and neither of them treated our concerns in a way that seemed like they wanted to help us. They actually walked away and stood behind an empty counter, when there was not a line of other patrons to help, and watched us struggle with issues with the computer in the airport. One of the employees told us completely false information about baggage information and the amount of time in advance required to check a bag. Only when we confronted him with information that we pulled up on the internet that differed from his information did he then usher us to the other previously unhelpful employee for further assistance. She then attempted to help us and did resolve the issue in the end, however at that point we were completely beyond frustrated. Both employees were aloof and did not seem like they wanted to help us at all. A group of about 3 other employees tried helping with software issues at the Spirit ticket counter and they even said that they regularly had many problems with their Spirit software that they used, which was different from the mobile software we had attempted to use earlier in the day. Additionally, the airplane itself was extremely small with very little individual seating space... This was the first time we had both flown Spirit in quite a few years and it is safe to say, we will not be returning."

It is supposed to be "cheap" which is the allure, but when you actually go to check in - you spend 112 dollars for a carryon and a checked bag, when you would spend maybe 25 or 30 on another airline for all. Plus, adding on the gas and the parking at LAX, the flights aren't cheaper. Also, both flights (to and from) the aircraft were disgustingly dirty. The carpets had food all over them, the windows had finger prints and face grease, etc. Both flights were delayed until after the take off time, which I assumed the staff were cleaning the planes. I was wrong. So I have to sit in a dirty aircraft with the tiniest tray table, which fits nothing, for the duration of a flight and then PAY for my water, which would have been free on any other flight. I will NOT be flying Spirit ever again."

Cons: "I had specifically chosen a return date of 6/26/2016. I went to the airport on that date just to find out that somehow the computer had changed that information to 7/23/16. Spirit refused to credit it , change date or even give credit . I am very disappointed as I am still stranded in Minnesota and have to pay additional money. I am spending more by making the mistake of ordering tickets through Kayak."

An e-mail telling me the flight was cancelled was sent to my home e-mail only after I had left for the airport. There was no text message to the smart phone number I had given them when I purchased the ticket. Other airlines do send text messages. When I suggested that to the Spirit representative, she was very dismissive and said notifying us was the responsibility of the booking site through we had purchased the flight. I felt a little sorry for the woman, but her attitude did not help her."
Cons: "I will avoid Spirit Airlines at all costs. First, there is the on-line bait and switch. You are quoted a price only to be told later that you have to pay $40 extra each way for even a small carry-on. You also learn that you have to pay a seat fee lest you be placed wherever they decide to put you. This is not disclosed up front--at least not prominently or in any obvious way. This borders on consumer fraud and the DOJ or Federal Trade Commission needs to take a look at this. If it is not fraud, it is clearly an unfair trade practice under Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act. The full price must be displayed up-front. If there are additional fees, those must be prominently displayed and calculated before you are allowed to commit to the purchase. My flight was cancelled and we had to wait approximately two hours in a long line while one person in a small office tried to re-book the passengers. When we got to the office, only then were we told that there were no more flights to our destination that day. By then all other flight alternatives had be taken. When I told a TSA officer my flight had been cancelled, she asked whether it was Spirit Airlines without my having indicated. When I said it was, in fact, Spirit, she said that was a common occurrence for that airline. I missed my grandmother's funeral the next day and incurred significant cancellation charges. If an airline is going to compete on price, the advertised price should be the actual price rather than merely bait."
