FAQs - booking Arizona flights

  • Which airport should I fly to if I'm visiting the Grand Canyon?

The best airport in Arizona for visiting the Grand Canyon is Flagstaff Airport. This is the closest airport outside of Grand Canyon Village (GCN), which doesn't get frequent flights. There are buses running daily from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon Village. It takes about 2 hours. If you're looking to stick to a budget, you could also fly to Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport as these flights tend to be cheaper. You can then take a Greyhound bus to Flagstaff.

  • Do I need a visa to visit Arizona from London?

If you have a UK passport you will need to either get a visa or complete an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (or ESTA) visa waiver. The ESTA lasts for two years or until your passport expires (whichever is first) so if you have already been approved in the last two years you won't need a visa. You can stay for up to 90 days with an ESTA waiver. If you plan to stay for longer, you should get a B1 or B2 visa, which can let you stay for up to six months.

  • Which departure airport in London gives me the most options?

Heathrow Airport has flights arriving at almost every Arizona airport every day. It is usually the only airport that operates flights to Grand Canyon Village and Phoenix-Mesa Airport. London City Airport is often overshadowed by larger London Airports like Heathrow and Gatwick, but it also operates flights to most airports in Arizona. It's also one of the most convenient airports if you're in Central London.

  • Do children need booster seats in Arizona?

Arizona State Law states that any child under eight years old and under 4ft 9in tall must use a booster seat. Most airlines operating flights from London to Arizona allow you to bring your own booster seat as part of your checked luggage for free. Most car rental services will also be able to offer you a booster seat.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Arizona

  • If you're visiting Phoenix, you'll have two airports to choose from. Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport (PHX) sees the most flights and is usually cheaper but you can always check out Phoenix Mesa Airport (AZA) to see if they have any better deals available.
  • Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport and Tucson Airport (TUS) both have multiple flights running daily. However, you can drive or take a bus between the two cities in around 2 hours, so whichever city you're visiting consider checking flight prices and routes for the other one.
  • Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport can sometimes be more ideal than Tucson as it has more direct flights running each day. Iberia, British Airways and Finnair both offer direct flights to Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport.
  • Lufthansa and United Airlines offer flights with the least connections to Tucson, with a single stopover at Denver International Airport (DEN). Other flights usually stop twice in U.S. cities. For example, KLM usually stops in Boston (BOS) and Atlanta (ATL).
  • Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport usually has the most options for departure airports from London. Flights depart most days from Heathrow (LHR), Gatwick (LGW), Stansted (STN), and London City (LCY).

Boarding was organized and timely. Food was mediocre, especially for first class travel.

I bought wifi and most of the flight could not even use it my apps would just spin. I couldn't even listen to music. super frustrating.

AA delayed the flight for 3 hours and 50 minutes, but delayed the last 2 hours, 30 minutes at a time, so if we knew before, could have stayed at home and worked instead of being at the airport wasting time... The plane's crew was excellent, not their fault.

Liked that it was on time. Staff professional and friendly.

The business class seats are dated and uncomfortable. The space is bare minimum and there is absolutely no privacy. For $4K, this is not what I expect.

Flight, food and crew were all good, friendly and very satisfactory.

Lost luggage after 2 days no word leaving on cruise no stuff or clothes

Staff's did their best to make everyone comfortable and I appreciate them for it

Pathetic check in experience once again. Not enough staff scheduled at bag drop or for special assistance at LHR. Really need to rethink the whole self check in procedure. The crew was good. A very decent selection of special meals in this leg as compared to the JFK-LHR leg.

Very clean and comfortable cabin. Amazing Mediterranean salad for lunch before landing. Great range of films to watch. Really quiet and easy to sleep on the flight also. The initial food was a bit weird: odd fried chicken pieces in some weird white gloop, but that would be my lack of cultural knowledge on the grub. Salad more than made up for it at the other end. Staff were super attentive and helpful. Great and easy flight

The crew was super friendly and helpful. The food was quite good. An overall positive experience.

Plane delayed due to weather. Plane boarded, then told to unboard due to a maintenance issue.

A more organized boarding experience and better food would have made the experience better.

Was all good.l including a sofdrink. AA improved significantly. There was no entertainment.

why can't planes be boarded from back to front?? everything was great otherwise

We flew into Barcelona and the plane was so cramped and very uncomfortable and dirty. But we flew out of Madrid and that plane was much better. Would fly Iberia again.

For what we are willing to pay for international air travel, our experience was very good. We had no problem checking in, we had very little wait time at the AA counter in Madrid, and the staff in Madrid were very helpful. The flight crew was helpful and courteous, the plane was on the newer side, and our assigned seats were together without us needing to purchase them. The flight took off on time and arrived early. Overall, it was a pleasant experience or as much as could be expected in economy for almost 10 hours.

Boarding was easy, the flight left on time and even landed 20 minutes early. The food was plentiful and really good! The crew was kind & helpful. Overall it was an exceptional experience!

We were delayed 2 hours because the crew was late. They need better planning by the crew, we had to sit in uncomfortable seats waiting for them.

The flight was safe, confortable and convenient. Thank you. I hope to come back soon!

Everything. Employees offered to help me because I had to use a cane.

Check-in and boarding were great. On flight staff were rude and disrespectful. Paid for extra room and found it incredibly cramped. Bathrooms kept in poor condition. Overall negative experience.

Great seat in premium economy, great food and drinks throughout lots of in flight entertainment. 1 hour 40 min delayed flying out , 2 1/2 hour wait at passport control in tampa

My seat cushion was poor. The cushion was compressed and was uncomfortable for such a long flight.

I was in a bulkhead seat and my tray table wasn't level. Eating was difficult.

Audi visual not working for a whole group of seats in first class. How does a plane leave the main hub in such poor condition? How much that we can’t see so immediately is also compromised?

main meals are horrible but then you dont fly for the food

It was good. Couldn’t Check in online and select seats

It was great. Enough space and room for legs . Great service to.

⭐ British Airways Review — A Journey of Highs, Lows, and Lessons ⭐ I recently flew Business Class round-trip from Boston to Mumbai with British Airways, and my experience was a tale of two extremes — from disappointment to exceptional service, and then back to inconsistency. Boston → London: A Surprisingly Poor Start My journey began on a disappointing note. On a 6-hour Business Class flight, I was surprised to discover that there wasn’t a single proper vegetarian meal option available. I was offered a few bakery items only after repeatedly requesting something to eat. The flight attendant shrugged, offered no solution, and eventually — quite literally — threw some bread at me after much delay. This was not only disheartening, it was extremely surprising given my wonderful Business Class experience with BA last year. I stepped off that flight genuinely hungry and had to make a mad dash to the lounge just to get a proper meal. London → Mumbai: A Complete Turnaround The next sector restored my faith in British Airways. The entire crew was warm, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely caring. A special shoutout to Phiroze and the entire team serving the Business Class cabin — their professionalism, hospitality, and thoughtful service were extraordinary. They truly embodied what makes British Airways a global leader, and I am deeply grateful for the experience they provided. This is the BA I know and love. Mumbai → London: A Strange Meal Schedule This sector was generally fine, but the meal timing was puzzling. Lunch at 10:30 AM — for a Business cabin — felt unusual, and most passengers, including myself, barely touched it. The rest of the service was smooth, but the scheduling definitely needs a rethink. London → Boston: Mixed Experience Again The flight itself was decent, but the Business Lounge at Heathrow for this leg was a letdown. Arrived during lunch hours: no hot vegetarian options available Lounge area: dirty dishes everywhere Even after politely alerting the staff, the dishes were ignored and left uncleared For a premium cabin passenger — and at one of the world’s busiest international hubs — this was disappointing. Overall Impression My journey with British Airways felt inconsistent — two great sectors sandwiched between two that fell short of the BA standard. When BA is good, it is world-class. When it misses, the gap is noticeable. I genuinely hope the airline takes this feedback as constructive insight. I continue to believe in British Airways, and I commend the outstanding crew on the London → Mumbai sector — they were the highlight of my entire trip. With a little more focus on vegetarian meal availability, lounge service, and consistency across crews, BA can ensure every Business Class passenger experiences the premium journey they promise.
