FAQs - booking Iceland flights

  • Can I fly nonstop from New York’s JFK to Iceland?

Yes, you will find that most flights along this route are direct when flying into Keflavik International Airport (KEF), about 45 minutes southwest from the capital city of Reykjavik. Icelandair and JetBlue both offer direct flights. If your flight does have a layover, you might stop in Boston (BOS) on JetBlue, or London (LHR) on British Airways.

  • Which airport in Iceland is the best destination?

Iceland has one airport, Reykjavik Keflavik International (KEF), that serves all international flights. If you want to fly into other regions of the country, like Akureyri (AEY) in the north, or Isafjordur (IFJ) in the Westfjords, you must first stop in Reykjavik. From here, you will transfer to Reykjavik Domestic Airport (RKV) and board the connecting flight to your final destination. The distance between the airports is around 50km (30 mi). Allow 90 minutes by bus or 60 minutes by taxi for transfer.

  • What travel documents do I need to enter Iceland?

U.S. travelers to Iceland need valid U.S. passports with three months’ validity beyond your departure date and two blank pages for stamps. You may also be asked to show a return ticket, purpose of visit documents, and proof of accommodation, like a hotel reservation. Additionally, having travel insurance to cover you while in the country is not only required but a smart choice.

  • How can I make my flight to Iceland more environmentally friendly?

Since a large amount of the emissions come from landing and take-off, flying direct is the biggest way to reduce your carbon footprint. In addition, you can consider flying with an airline that has established programs to protect the environment, like JetBlue. Its initiatives include the use of fuel-efficient aircraft, reducing single-use plastics on board, and incorporating eco-friendly operations.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from New York John F Kennedy Airport to Iceland?

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from New York John F Kennedy Airport to Iceland?

You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Iceland

  • Your journey to Iceland kicks off at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) the borough of Queens. You can reach it easily via the AirTrain, which is seamlessly connected to several key subway lines across the city.
  • If you plan to fly to an airport other than Keflavik International (KEF), Iceland’s largest airport, it may be more cost-effective to book two separate tickets instead of one. For example, you would book your flight from JFK to KEF and then a separate flight from KEF to your final destination. This can also give you time in to visit tourist favorites like the Blue Lagoon before heading off to your final destination.
  • JetBlue collaborates with Dig for in-flight dining, allowing passengers to customize meals using seatback screens. Ingredients come from local farms run by minorities and women entrepreneurs. Additionally, it offers special meals to accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Make your trip on Icelandair more comfortable by upgrading your ticket. With its Class Up program, passengers can bid on upgrades to Saga Premium. Eligible travelers receive email invitations 10 days prior to their trips, then submit bids for increased comfort and perks like wider seats, lounge access, and premium amenities.
  • Passengers with limited mobility should request needed assistance through the airline directly. JetBlue can provide boarding and deplaning assistance at both the destination and arrival airports. You can also bring your personal wheelchair aboard or have it checked through to your final destination.

WiFi didn’t work most of the time. The usb chargers would work only occasionally for 5 mins and wouldn’t charge after that. Had to keep trying repeatedly at each of the seats in the row.

WiFi didn’t work most of the time. The usb chargers would work only occasionally for 5 mins and wouldn’t charge after that. Had to keep trying repeatedly at each of the seats in the row.

The crew bent over backwards to thank us for flying and make us comfortable. The food service was quick and efficient. The Captain communicated and said goodbye and thank you as we departed. They really stood out!

my mom urmila patel needed a wheelchair which was not available on the curbside. she needed to walk almost 50 meters inside (at the risk of falling) and then had to wait in line to get a wheelchair (this is not ok). Once obtained she had to seat in it for 30-45 minutes for someone to take her in thru the checkin process (which was fairly smooth and easy). the lady who helped her with her checkin process was very courteous and helpful

Excellent service, I love the soft blush pink mood lighting on the 767-400ER during meal service. The overhead gasper vents on the 767-400ER were also very strong with a lot of airflow to keep me comfortable on my flight.

This was the worse experience. They delayed our flight twice and we still had to find another flight to get home sooner which was alos delayed. Also, the flight attendant named Ginny on DL9890 leaving at 4:13pm on 3/23/26 was extremely rude.

I love Delta the flight attendants were personable and the flight arrived 1/2 earlier thanks expected. All a plus. The gate agent was a bit flustered but even with that I still had a good experience. Her supervisor assisted me.

I am still at the Airport! Delayed Delayed and Delyaed

There was an unruly family behind us that made the short flight miserable!!! The cabin crew did nothing to contain it.

There’s not much to say about a one hour flight. This is a connection from LA to RNO that I missed the previous night due to a mechanical check delay on my originating flight from JFK to LAX. The short flight itself was fine. Instructions from the pilot and crew were per usual. The coffee was barely lukewarm, which possibly was purposeful so we would down it quickly. Bags were already on carousel upon reaching baggage claim, which was excellent.

It was good. The leg room was not great in Row 1.

As per usual when you Hit the UK it's a slow process through customs Not as efficient at Thailand for sure

It was really nice experience by flying this klm flight.I personally recommend everyone to please try this klm flight

It was really nice journey i personally recommend klm flight

The crew were unprofessional with a racist element. I was physically abused as well from one of the crew members

Crew is not the cheerful type. very slow meal service (this is their style as have flown this many times)

Empty seats next to me - wish it had been for a longer flight!!

Delay on my previous leg, had to run to catch my flight. But that happens. Overall ok.

They forgot to serve food and the crew was very unfriendly. Never experienced such a bad KLM flight. Usually fly from Toronto. New York was different.

Couldn’t get boarding pass in SLC even with help from a redcoat, so had to find a desk in AMS to get boarding pass. Technical problems so not sure why. Very inconvenient. The KLM app is not as user friendly as most apps. Also had to wait almost an hour on the tarmac for a fuel truck, which caused us to miss a connecting bus in LUX.

The immigration hall in Amsterdam was understaffed, so passport checking was slower than it should be for a major airport. They need to get the automatic readers up and running for non EU passport holders. Waiting in line after a long flight feels a bit abusive.

Middle seats SUCK!!!! I paid more money than I should have because of your terrible site Kayak.com. I'll try to use your competitors going forward. I am so disappointed you would play off business class.com as business class seats

The boarding was efficient. The entertainment system was a bit unstable but Air France has a good selection of movies.

They lost my bag and I still haven’t received it yet

They lost my bag and I still have not received it

I don’t like that an equipment change caused my seat to change from 23A to 44A. The boarding was also delayed. The crew were excellent, however and very attentive. The food was not bad.

Worst airlines either. First leg was delayed because of crew not available. My connection was missed so they booked me automatically the next day! But, impossible to get anyone on site, web site does not let me access my reservation anymore, confirmed by useless agents over the phone. My 2-leg trip with part in business class arriving at 4:10pm ends up in an awful 3-leg arriving at 9pm the next day with no way to even choose the seats and of course at the very end of the plane. I can understand problems arrive but the way Air France handle it is just unacceptable. You are on your own. Apparently getting you to your destination is the only thing they consider their duty. The customer experience and fatigue is none of their concern. And I have a status with them. I will reconsider my priorities when flying with Air France and encourage everyone to do the same.

Excellent, Lima to Paris. But Paris to Amsterdam, delayed, missed my flight and KLM treated its missed flights passengers very badly, terribly bad. No hotel accommodation given. Passengers were told to find their own hotel accommodation and claim at reasonable rate and left the booth and literally with armed Police Officers listening to passengers complains. For three hours, after moving by Uber from hotel to hotel and calling and booking online, no hotel was available. I had to return to the airport and seat/sleep on the benches, suffering the cold, and rats running around until my new allocated flight the next day. It was the most terrible KLM treatment even seen and being a Business Class passenger. Still mentally suffering to date as a result.

3 hour delay but out of their control. App said I get vouchers but when I applied for them, they were nowhere to be found in my account

I bought business class tickets but the seats are exactly like economy with no comfort seats nor an empty seat next to me provided. Very poor, low quality airline.

I don't understand the concept of paying to get your personal luggage onboard and then asked to check it in.... either sell the space or don't, its a hassle to carry those all through the airport just to make a check in at the last minute.

Seating and zone. The minor I went with didn’t even seat close to me

My seat 3G did not go down fully and the buttons were not working properly

Food has been disappointing in both legs of flight to india

Great staff great experience, made a 2 hour delay very bearable

Great staff, great experience, made a 2 hour delay very bearable

Food was the worst I’ve had on a VA flight. Normally it’s a lot better

I was my pleasure to fly virgin on my birthday for my first solo trip ever 🫶🏼

These are one of the older seat arrangements facing away from the windows! Not particularly convenient sets. No storage spaces. NO COAT HANGING HOOKS. Inconvenient business class seat compared to any other airlines of similar class. Staff are excellent! Extremely professional, friendly. Food is good too.

Overall, flight was excellent but check in was very slow for Premium Economy. Economy queue was shorter but we weren't allowed to use it.

The staff was not very polite but the flight was very very nice and comfortable and the entertainment was great

The movie choices were poor. The worst problem is the treatment of passengers durinng pre-boarding. In one case the primes were checked in and sent down the boarding tunnek only to stand waiting there while the plane is cleaned. In the second case the bus was loaded, the doors closed and just stood there unmoving like sardeines in a tin for over TEN minutes. In both cases it was rough on us old guys who find standing for long periods trying.. In other words, Donnt just stack us up and forget us.

Second time with Saga Premium, everything was fab, but the entertainment centre on both my flights didn't work, plus the seat on the NY to Rek flight (Airbus) was so solid and so uncomfortable. The 737Max flight's seat was much, much better.

I’m considering never flying with Iceland Air again. The seats in economy are torture. Now you only get water, coffee and tea for free- really? No food, not a single peanut. The passport line was insane, everyone was worried about catching their connecting flight. This was the third time I’ve barely made my connection, had to run. It can’t be that my choice is to use the bathroom (during the 50 minutes between flights) or make my flight. SO stressful! Ugh.

Iceland Air severely damaged a checked bag. Additionally, the gate agent caused issues for many passengers who had standard-sized onboard bags that would have passed inspection by any other airline.

The staff was kind and helpful. There was no food, and you needed to bring your own earphones to use the entertainment, which I didn’t know.

Delays at check-in, seemed like they were short ground staff at the time and some passengers needed extra processing.

Food - Non-Existent. You pay for everything. It is strictly Pay-to-Play!

The Experience Was Torture Spend a few extra dollars and avoid Icelandair at all costs. There is absolutely no refreshments, no food, no drinks. Only water, coffee, tea are free and at only half a tiny cup. Entertainment is limited selection of films, shows and mostly outdated. The seats are smaller than usual, with no cushion, no pillows, no blankets. First time in my life have I witness an airline asking for donations in spare change for a charity. With all the money Icelandair saves by starving the passenger, they can afford to give this charity on their own.

If there was a disclaimer regarding food service or lack thereof, l missed it. If l had known l would have prepared better. Same with transferring at Reykjavik. No information about disembarking via stairs into rain, slush and puddles deep enough to swallow a foot. After being treated to haute cuisine restaurants and warm inviting environment during the flight, the airport is, let’s be kind, disappointing. Plane was comfortable, Airbus, staff were welcoming enough. I would likely try the route again. Maybe have a night and day in Iceland. Maybe not.

They had a 4 hour delay and left my luggage in Iceland and it didn’t arrive in Portland until 11/1
