JFK was a convenient airport to fly out of if you arrive for an early flight. Download all your media ahead of time. don't buy the internet in-flight if you don't have to.
NicoleFlew with Delta-Jun 2026
Terminal has great options for food. Lots of seating and charging stations. If checking luggage and already paid online just drop them at the curbside and continue to the check point.
SarahFlew with Delta-Jun 2026
Delta had a very organized boarding process which I appreciated. The construction on the way to JFK meant my Uber had to detour through some residential areas which was annoying. I would have used the subway and AirTrain if I hadn't been traveling with my cat.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jun 2026
Expect to leave for JFK 3 hrs prior to flight if traveling by car from Upper West Side. You will want to arrive 1.5 H prior to departure
JeanieFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jun 2026
Bring your own food and entertainment. The buy-on-board program may require advance ordering, and it can be expensive. Also, the on-board wifi may not work.

OlgaFlew with JetBlue-May 2026
Here’s the part that confused me the most. JetBlue flies only from terminal 5. Delta (at least) arrives in terminal 4. Be aware that there is a lot of walking to get out of terminal 4, then you board the sky train, then you walk more, and finally get to terminal 5. There, surprise! You have to go through security again. At JFK, some security lines are ridiculously long and slow. It’s very annoying that transit passengers must go through that again when moving between terminals. One more thing related to terminal 5 where JetBlue flies - there is absolutely nowhere to sit and almost nothing to eat before going through security. The security lines were better organized though and it didn’t take that long.
KathleenFlew with Alaska Airlines-Feb 2026
allow plenty of time to get to the airport and through security. Take the plane train if you can. Terminal eight has good food options
BeverlyFlew with JetBlue-Dec 2025
Wear support socks which helps when you sit for a long time.
EllenFlew with Hawaiian Airlines-Dec 2025
Check your flights a few weeks before your trip and keep checking to see if times have changed, and if you need to adjust your layovers. Our flight went from 10am to 8:30am. We could have missed it.

Wear something warm on the plane they keep it cool
DavidFlew with JetBlue-Jan 2025
JetBlue leaves from JFK which can be a plus or minus depending on your plans in New York. Arrive early and check out the TWA hotel—with a great public lounge, bar, and food court in the restored 1960’s Eero Saarinen-designed building outside of terminal 5. The AirTran accepts OMNY tap to pay with your phone or credit card, take it to Jamaica station to transfer to the LIRR to go to Penn Station in Manhattan or check the MTA TrainTime app for schedules and tickets for other destinations.
DavidFlew with Singapore Airlines-Feb 2025
Bring a mattress pad with you if you plan on sleeping in business class.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Jan 2025
Be there on time it really need two hours for security checkups
KishoreFlew with ITA Airways-Dec 2024
Be prepared for confusion. The Delta boarding pass you get is actually not usable at JFK. You have to go to the ITA desk and get a paper ticket. Again something Delta doesn’t tell you. Poorly managed partnership
KymberleeFlew with Delta-Oct 2024
Just make sure you get to the airport early because you never know with traffic or what situations may happen. I always fly Delta so I can’t speak on other airlines. TSA pre check is always a plus in my book.
Verified travelerFlew with Qantas Airways-Nov 2024
there was an instance where a non speaking couple didnt know when to board. people cut in front of them and the crew didnt respond. it would be nice if there were translators available to assist when needed. i get that you want people on board as quickly as possible. sometimes, it's like herding cats. but do assist the people who dont understand the language.
MichaelFlew with American Airlines-Oct 2024
Book a month or more in advance to avoid paying more than going to South America. Don’t expect your checked bag quickly. They’ve been doing construction for literally years.
JulieFlew with Alaska Airlines-Oct 2024
Leave early. JFK can be messy. I couldn’t find healthy food choices so eat before you arrive.
Verified travelerFlew with Qantas Airways-Oct 2024

Get there early! I have TSA and CLEAR and security still took forever.
MichaelFlew with Delta-Oct 2024
Get to the airport early. Queues in JFK are terrible
Verified travelerFlew with Japan Airlines-Aug 2024
Make sure if you have any type of food allergies you let them know ahead of time instead of during your flight. The airline will do their best to accommodate your allergies and they take them very seriously. Economy wasn’t to bad on the way there I would recommend sitting in and exit row if you’re looking for leg room and it also helps to be close to the bathrooms.
RolandoFlew with British Airways-Jun 2024
Purchase one of the memory foam pillows you will not regret it. They provide one for you but it’s fairly small. Try to keep your personal item small so that you have as much room as possible for your legs.
Maria AlejandraFlew with Frontier-Aug 2024

RobertFlew with American Airlines-Jul 2024
Take later flight in evening so passengers more tir e and sleeping. Get your own food before flight.
Verified travelerFlew with Iberia-Jul 2024
Book directly from airline, at least will have direct communication
DerrickFlew with JetBlue-Aug 2024
Lots of construction around JFK airport, leave early.
BarbFlew with Delta-Jun 2024
I booked into JFK due to cost. However, I wouldn’t do it again due to all the construction in the area and the incredibly long B concourse for Delta. We were at the very last gate.
PaulFlew with British Airways-Apr 2024
Bring your own wired headphones and two pin 3.5mm adapter if you want a decent sound experience from the in flight entertainment. If you're vegetarian, there will be an option in flight - no need to order through your booking before the trip.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Mar 2024
Bring an iPad with lots of shows downloaded. The terminal at jfk is nice and small, easy to go thru security. Palm Springs airport is amazing. You step out and feel like you’re on vacation.
LionelFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2024
To buy food in advance and put in in the bags to account for plane delays. I also recommend to activate plane information updates on the phone.
FreddyFlew with JetBlue-May 2024
Get to JFK with plenty of time. Be ready for the all crazyness NYC offers 🤗
AmranulFlew with Delta-Apr 2024
If you have a child who is under two years old or older, make sure they have seat right next to you otherwise they will make you sit far from them
Verified travelerFlew with Kenya Airways-May 2024
Again, be at the gate early enough for a comfortable check in. Also must get a Kenya Airways boarding pass since other boarding passes are not recognized.
MichaelFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2024
Book a month in advance or you’ll be paying rates that could get you to a foreign country.
TommyFlew with American Airlines-May 2024
Eat and use the rest room before flight and try not to leave your seat at all.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-May 2024
The airport food was limited and expensive. Best to bring a sandwich from outside…
VaitsaFlew with British Airways-Apr 2024
Be early and pay attention to gate changes.
Verified travelerFlew with Hawaiian Airlines-Mar 2024
Bring your own food for snacks because it’s crazy expensive at the airport and the airline doesn’t give that much food for such a long flight.
RichardFlew with JetBlue-May 2024
Don’t make the mistake I made and pay for a second checked bag. They will check your carry-on for free at the gate.
Verified travelerFlew with Delta-Apr 2024
Don’t sit next to the bathroom. It wreaks!
MichaelFlew with Iberia-Jan 2024
Make sure your toiletries are travel size. Check in for your flight extra early, and dress warmly, because Paris can be brutally cold in the winter.
leaniepenneFlew with British Airways-Jan 2024
Dress appropriate for the season and be comfortable, arrive early for checking in case there are unexpected changes or delays.
CorinneFlew with SWISS-Dec 2023
Note that you have to pay extra for checked luggage on certain economy flights. Be at the airport 3 hours prior, security check can take time.
GabrielaFlew with Avianca-Feb 2024
Everything is self-handled. Machines register your bags and they must weigh what they are supposed to so you will not have ti pay extra
Verified travelerFlew with Cathay Pacific-Feb 2024
Long journey wear comfortable clothes they only served two meals so take some food especially if you have diabetes
JustinFlew with Norse Atlantic UK-Feb 2024

JeffreyFlew with Delta-Jan 2024

NicholasFlew with JetBlue-Feb 2024
Don’t forget to bring your headphones for the tv.
DavidFlew with JetBlue-Feb 2024
Bring own entertainment and backup batteries for devices
LaurenFlew with JetBlue-Dec 2023
Be very careful that you don’t misplace anything. If you have to go through TSA multiple times, be sure to retrieve ALL your things even if it means you have to hold up the line unfortunately. Otherwise, there will be zero help to retrieve your things afterwards even though there are so many cameras.
Verified travelerFlew with British Airways-Jan 2024
Check all flights, arrive at the airport alot earlier if you have your flights cancelled and then rebooted with another line, they didn't book us on and took neatly 3 hours to sort out, others arrived at the normal time and missed their flights
ZachFlew with Korean Air-Dec 2023
BRING YOUR OWN WATER! They don't serve much for a long flight and I kept having to ask the cabin crew for more.
JayFlew with LATAM Airlines-Jan 2024
Don’t stay in the middle row. No AC Vents. The air was just stand still. An 8 hour fight felt like 20 hours

We were delayed 2 hours because of a broken seat. Other than that it was a very nice flight.

an he late. super rude gate agent, to every person. spoke down at people.

One of the restrooms didn’t work. The ones that did never got replenished. Flight attendant just sitting there on their phone. No notification that the bathroom was broken so long lines. Apathetic crew.

Both of my flights to and from JFK experienced significant delays. Most notably, my first flight was delayed by six hours due to crew members being affected by delays on a previous flight. While I understand that disruptions can occur, Delta’s staffing and operational planning should include sufficient contingency measures to handle situations like this rather than placing the full burden of those delays on customers. Additionally, the $12 meal voucher offered as compensation was inadequate, particularly given the high cost of food and beverages at the airport. Considering the length of the delay and the substantial inconvenience caused, I believe more meaningful compensation would have been appropriate.

We were skipped when the snack cart passed and then the attendant said we weren’t . I am disabled and was in a row toward the back of the plane which was very difficult for me to navigate. Disabled people should not be forced to walk the plank.

Our flight was delayed multiple times and then canceled at almost 1 in the morning. We are a family of 7, traveling with 5 young children. When the flight we were supposed to fly on finally arrived after waiting all day after an international flight into JFK we were informed our flight was in need of a copilot and once they located one we would take off. Then our flight was cancelled because the copilot was over his hours and they couldn't locate another. They knew before taking off from the previous location that the copilot would be unable to fly. They could have communicated the cancellation of the flight hours in advance. Once they cancelled and the pilot and copilot got off the flight, they joked about it. While there are understandably limits on flight time for pilots, they can still handle the situation in a professional manner. The late cancellation resulted in angry passengers that required police intervention in the airport. It also occurred so late and included other delta flights that after trying 15 different hotels, we were unable to secure a hotel room, they were all booked. No rental cars were available in the area either. We ended up staying in the airport with the 5 children. We made it home after 54 hours of travel with maybe 2 hours of sleep. Our luggage was lost and had to be claimed at the airport at our final destination. This was the worst trip I have ever taken and the worst airport I have ever spent time in. I met two individuals in the airport that were kind and helpful; Tonya Maingot Williams from the can we hel desk that worked to help get us rebooked and home, as well as provide us with care bags for our extended stay in the airport. The other individual was Danielle from Buffalo Wild Wings that was so very kind when we found a place to take our family we were traveling with to eat, all 11 of us and we were able to sit down together to enjoy a meal during such a stressful time.

On time! There were plenty of airport employees who were able to keep us moving in the right direction. The crew on the plane were professional.

Was revoked with Jet Blue due to delay from Kenya Air

WiFi didn’t work most of the time. The usb chargers would work only occasionally for 5 mins and wouldn’t charge after that. Had to keep trying repeatedly at each of the seats in the row.

The crew bent over backwards to thank us for flying and make us comfortable. The food service was quick and efficient. The Captain communicated and said goodbye and thank you as we departed. They really stood out!

To get to jet blue at JFK from any connecting flight you have to go through security again.

On time, great food, good drink selection! Only down was alcohol-free lounge. Lufthansa had a much better offering!

For that price on Business class, I expected to have the pod seats. These were configured as 2/3/2 and my seat mate talked half the flight with a friend across the isle, loudly. Very uncouth.

It was an amazing experience. Flight crew's service, hospitality, and the food were phenomenal. I don't think I'd want to try any other airline company after this. I would definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you Turkish Airlines !

Not good. I was supposed to be in Mint but got in economy class

Not up to Business Class standards. Two of the three toilets were out of order. The hostesses were aware and didn’t show any responsible act to do something. Food quality was not what we expect from Turkish hospitality. Overall we were not impressed and disappointed.

I was not given basinett seat. The connecting flight was missed due to airline fault i was not accomodated for hotel.Drinks were normt served frewuently.Never travelling again on tirkish airlines.I always travel wiyh family by turkish airline but no more.zero stars

This is really the rating of two flights. JFK to IST then IST to NQZ. New York to Istanbul was good. Good crew and all positives. The flight to Astana was so bad that brought it all down. Crew was nonexistent above the minimum, seats were cramped, and it was hot on the plane. Turkish Airlines seems to be slipping down to US based carriers level.

Everything was very good, except that the plane was an hour and a half late

Professional & courteous cabin crew. Food was very good even in economy class

Great. Clean. Seats comfortable. Food was free. Had new release movies.

The boarding crew was very helpful with a little special problem I had. The inflight crew - so-so.

They kept us on the tarmac for 6 hours after already delaying our flight by 2 hours. No one had any answers. They sent our gate checked stroller to baggage claim instead of giving it back at the gate.

There was a big delay and I missed my connection flight

I don’t like the music section but I believe it was a cost decision. I changed my flight last minute due to work issues and had to sit way in the back. The seats were way closer together than I would have preferred.

Our particular exceptional experience was with Johnny at JFK at check in. He was the kindest, most accommodating agent I’ve ever encountered taking extra steps to help my husband and I with our extra baggage. I hope that he knows how much he positively affected our trip.

The flight attendant was very polite and attentive. The food was good.

Crew were professional and kind. The flight was smooth. But... The internet, which we paid 35 dollars for, did not work for most of the flight. This made providing media for our child an uncomfortable hassle.

Overall fine. Seemed like one of the older model planes? Crew was mostly very kind, though some of the female attendants were a rather abrupt during the food service.

Leave on time. We waited on the plane for hour hours and it was hot and smelly

Very poor help no one answering a question regarding seating. Very rude staff. They don’t care, as if it’s not part of their job. Flight was delayed for no good reason and no apologies given.

A more comfortable seat. Padding would be really helpful but I've read the airlines don't want customers to be satisfied with economy seats.

When I booked, I included my checked luggage and when the bill was sent there was no record of this. Its was costly since I am from Trinidad amd Tobago. Exchange rate over seven dollars to one US dollar.

Everything was good except checking bags . I had paid for two bags but it didn’t show so we had to do it again while people waited and we were struggling to get to our flight

Plane was delayed multiple times. I would like to request a refund. Was due to arrive Thursday evening ended up arriving Friday morning.

The crew and the pilots. The pilots were amazing. The landing in Cancun was excellent.

The security line at JFK was one of the longest I’ve ever experienced - probably 45 minutes. I don’t know if JetBlue has control over it, but it detracted from the overall experience. Entertainment had good options, but the volume control was a bit small to tap on and the screen had a fair amount of interference blips. Clearer picture would have been better.

I liked the entertainment on JetBlue, the service from JFK to JAX was terrible at best

I usually dont fly JeTBlue and I dont think I will ever do it again. The flight was delayed fee time, nobody was giving us any info at at the airport, gate changing, the slowest and poorly organized boarding ever, rude staff.. huh

The flight was delayed. I upgraded to more room. I can't imagine how small the regular seats are I haven't upgraded for my return flight yet.

We booked seats next to each other. When we got the boarding passes, they were for different rows. The crew were reluctant to help us, so we ended up sitting separately. 1. What’s the point of reserving by seat number if you’re not going to honor that reservation? 2. Even if it gets messed up between reservation and boarding, how is the crew going to deny us the opportunity to arrange to sit together. There were plenty of people flying alone. It could’ve been easily accommodated. Not very customer-friendly at all.

The seats were the worst I have ever flown Too narrow, did not recline and the actual seat was hard as a rock. I will tell all travelers to stay away from Avianca flights.

It was delayed and I lost my connection flight to Cali and I missed my Mom's funeral

I actually upgraded to the medium level of seats from basic and even doing that it may have been physically the most uncomfortable flight I have ever had. They packed everyone like is a train to death camp. It was a red eye so I hoped to get some sleep but it was physically impossible to find a comfortable way to rest. I met other folks on the same flight and they said the same thing. It was an utterly miserable flight and if I have any other options I will never fly with them again

I like the crew they're very friendly. I don't like. on five hour flight they not offered snacks. Any drink. Not even coffee

Not even water is offered on the flight. You cannot lean back on the seats and the seats are so narrow you can’t avoid rubbing elbows with the person next to you.

I couldnt recline the seat. Other than that crew was very attentive and helpful. Thsnk you

The seats were uncomfortable and barely reclined at all. Very little leg room despite being business class. The crew was friendly and the food was good. Had to use my own phone for in-flight entertainment.

Boarding was excessively slow. They do it by groups in a way that it doesn’t make sense. After business class , ppl that need assistance and any other priority group they should have ppl board from the back to the front. First rows 20+. Then 15+. Then 10, etc. having ppl sitting in the back board last makes no sense. The libe backame long as soon as ppl on rows 10 or so where told to board. The line went all the way up the ramp and tunnel for 25 mins.

Lounge for business was closed. Boarding was rush and stand by. Seat for business is just the middle seat blocked and some more leg room.
