We took a flight from NY to Tokyo and felt like it was one of the best long haul flights we have taken.

The one that was suppose to fly out at 12:50 on 1/6/18 delayed until 17:25 (with acceptable communication the first delay) but then later delayed till 00:10 after I’ve already arrived at the airport early for the 17:25 departure. The screens with arrivals and departures posted that Checkin was open but there was no JAL staff to answer questions. Then getting an update “maybe” the 00:10 flight is cancelled? What is maybe cancelled and JALs phone messege still said the flight would depart at 00:10. So I go back to JFK because after all “maybe” isnt a definitive and according to all the direct JAL sources the flight is suppose to depart, I get to JFK the second time only to be given a printout saying the flight is cancelled with no rebooking, and to call for assistance. The same number is been calling for hours trying to get answers. coukdnt reschedules because I’m calling outside of business hours! I spent $200 on cab rides going back and forth to JFK to go nowhere, get no apology, no new flight booking, and no reimbursement for transportation.

Very professional, attentive, good food, little amenities that make a difference in the overall experience of traveling. Very clean bathrooms, even after a 16-1/2 hour flight to Taipei it was still clean at the end of the trip. Food was good and plentiful, wine, spirits, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages offered. Came around at least three times on the leg to Taipei with food and water and when I wanted more water they gladly made sure I stayed hydrated on such a long flight.

Cons: In spite of JFK airport shuting down due to Storm Grayson, EVA airline refused to cancel the flight until 1 hour before the time of departure! They wouldnt listen to my requests to change flights until it was too late. JFK airport put out a notice at 7:30PM stating that they woukd be closed until 7am the next morning. However, i recieved an email from EVA airlines AND Kayak around 9 PM stating that my flight was on time... the airport was closed!! Terrible organization... overall a really bad experience.
Cons: Airline seemed to be extremely stingy with the food and beverages during my 12hr + flight. Felt like I had to fight for every little bit of extra scrap of food and explain why I needed it. It was also very limited options almost everything in the menu contained pork and if you did not pre-order a meal in advanced then it was hard for you to get anything else to eat. Airline also forces you to take out your headphones from the TV set almost 20 minutes before arriving for some odd reason. And on my flight we had a two hour delay on the tarmac.

Pros: EVA Airlines was a wonderful experience from the beginning all the way to the end. From checking in to receive boarding passes, boarding, stewardess, the food, everything was wonderful. They were always pleasant and had a smile on their face. When my trip was changed by the website (vayama) to fly back to the states, EVA Airlines went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care, placed on another flight, and made it home to get to work the next day. They didn’t have to take care of me, but the did and the professionalism is amazing! I’m very pleased with this airline and will fly with them again!

Few minutes later, she asked me to move my luggage and to place it to another overhead cabin because she said It's "heavy." I followed the standard size and weight for carry on luggage. Another passenger helped me instead. No place to rest our feet.

Cons: I don't understand why I can't use my own headphones in the headphone jack attached to the built-in monitors. I was in the middle of a movie in the last 30 minutes of the flight and we were asked to turn in our EVA-provided headsets, which was fine. Since the movie was still playing, I plugged in my own and was promptly asked to remove them. This rule seems a little ridiculous.
Pros: Customer service was outstanding. After a debacle with Jetblue where they cancelled our originating flight, we booked another ticket through Delta to get to JFK. The Delta flight was delayed on the tarmac of JFK for 45 minutes, giving us only 15 minutes to go to the EVA terminal and check in. The terminal was nearly empty when we ran up to the counter. Luckily, the agents had not closed down yet. They attempted to check us in when they realized that the airline cancelled our ticket because our Jetblue originating flight was cancelled. The agents worked furiously to ensure we got on the flight, even communicating with the gate to let them know we were coming. They rebooked our tickets and got us on the plane. We are so appreciative of the EVA staff at JFK for saving our vacation.

I appreciate the need for security, but that was excessive and unnecessary. In the peak of the Corona virus craze, the security made all passengers take off shoes and walk without any protection. This is not Qatar Airways doing - New York JFK security B S, but I am sure airways companies have some say to change it.

Cons: Unfortunately, the plane was late, prompting me to miss my connecting flight. These things happen, I understand, but most upsetting was the fact that Qatar Airways provided very little information to those of us missing our flights. While on the plane, when those of us with short layovers mentioned that we may be late, we were told "you'll be fine - they hold the planes for a bit." When we deboarded the plane from New York, we ere wrangled into groups depending on our destinations. Many of us assumed that we were going to be taken to our next flights as we had been told they would be waiting for us. The airline rep in charge of my group refused to tell us any information, however, only admitting after we got confrontational with her that we had missed our flights. She then offered no information about what would happen to us, telling us we'd find out when we got to the rebooking counter. Very unprofessional. I was told that I would have to wait for another 24 hours for the next flight, necessitating that I would spend the night in Qatar. I was put up in a hotel that was decent, but again that offered very little in terms of customer service. We were given an $80 meal allowance, but despite me not using it, I was nickeled and dimed in other aspects to where I ended up paying $20 to help reschedule a flight that I had missed in my destination country. The whole ordeal was a nightmare and mostly due to poor communication and very cold, almost robotic interactions with the QA staff on the ground in Doha.
Cons: Even though we landed in Doha before our connection left ( barely-20 min)on Qatar airways, they would not hold the connecting flight for the 7 of us who were connecting. This was extremely disappointing as we then lost a full 8 hours of our first day arrival. If they schedule you for a 45 minute connecting flight, I suggest you book a later one. Our flight from NYC left on time but was 20 min late landing. Their only compensation to us all was use of the airport lounge in Doha ( quite nice with free food wine and showers, but would rather have had the extra day in Bali.

However I did not arrive in Johannesburg because a flight delay (even though our flight was set to let ontime) caused probably 40 people to miss their connections. To their credit, Qatar Airways did find accommodations for us and gave us food vouchers. Otherwise it'd be a zero rating.
Cons: Boarding took far too long and caused us to be an hour late. Because of this, I am missing out on events scheduled in South Africa. This is very upsetting and it appears that Qatar Airways is too slow with boarding, there was no explanation given for why it took so incredibly long to board.

Cons: I started my journey from JFK with Emirates and before booking ticket I checked with customer care representative regarding the baggage allowance and I was told that I am allowed to carry up to 55 inch . I just carried 43 inch tv weighing 19lbs and one check-in baggage weighing 21kgs and they made me pay 175$ saying that tv size is not in allowed limitations. I have also filed complaint but didn’t get any response so far . Last year my husband carried 55 inch with ethihad from same airport JFK and was not charged single penny. so I can say there is no airport restriction as well.

Pros: The staff at the check in counter at JFK was very friendly and accommodating, much like the crew on the flight. Boarding was orderly and efficiently executed, although some announcement about the 30-minute boarding delay would have been appreciated. Onboard the seating was quite comfortable compared with other airlines I have travelled on and the crew was exceptional in their service - really customer-focused. The meals were tasty with unlimited snacks and complimentary drinks. Generally, I would highly recommend this airline.
Cons: The TV and remote controls could be updated. Touch screen was largely slow to respond and the whole system could be more intuitive.
Cons: Flight was initially delayed one hour, then we were asked to line up for boarding but it took another 45 minutes of standing before we were boarded. The flight ended up taking off 2 hours late. We missed our connecting flight, the meal vouchers in Dubai were for vendors that were a) shut down/no longer open and b) of terrible food quality (McDonalds!? AWFUL!)

Cons: 29 passengers were arriving in JFK from MSP, a flight that was delayed due to ground staff issues at JFK (which means that Emirates' partner airline had some issues?). Plane was delayed but we landed just in time to make the connection or so we thought. After running through the terminal, we saw our plane attached to the gate for 53 minutes(I have pictures to show) but Emirates gate staff said the flight is now closed, and didn't let us board the flight. They didn't help us rebook our next flight, or pay for hotel or transportation. And some of us couldn't fly for 2 days because they were overbooked on their future flights. And that's what really happened - Emirates was overbooked for our flight, and conveniently used the excuse that they didn't know our flight had landed in JFK (seriously), and their ground staff was totally non challent about it. They asked us to call the partner airline to rebook, who instead asked us to call Emirates. 4-6 hours of calling for most of us in the middle of the night. Emirates has social media presence on Twitter & Facebook but it's like chatting with a wall. Its 100% useless and waste of time, and I have asked them where I can send my complaint but they won't respond.
Cons: Our flight from Boston to JFK in Ny was delayed an hour. We got to JFK and ran from the plane to the terminal and they had already closed the door but the plane was still there. They wouldn't let us on the flight and it ended up even being delayed for 30 minutes! We talked to JetBlue and they said they couldn't do anything for us so not only did we miss out on a day in Italy, we lost our a ton of money on all the things we booked for Tuesday. We also then had to get a hotel in ny and everything was booked so we almost had to sleep at the airport but luckily we found a place that had a last minute opening. Still was super expensive and no one helped with a "destressed rate". Now we have to wait until 10 again tonight to try to catch the plane to Milan because Emirates only has one flight a day. This has been the worst travel experience I have ever had.
Cons: worst crew i have ever encountered in spite of repeatedly calling them they just completely ignored my calls served me wrong food and when i said i needed a veg meal they said they could only serve if it was pre-booked when i showed them my pre-booking details on my cell they agreed to serve me one. Very disinterested crew in serving the guests badly managed from my early, also the pizza slice emitrates serves is a non veg pizza its clearly written on the box preparation may include eggs fish etc.. and they did not have any substitute for the same. Multiple passengers kept on disturbing me and asking me to shift my seat even when i was sleeping and the crew did nothing about it because of this experience i would not choose to fly emirates again
Cons: No proper communication provided on gate about the delay. Meal voucher was given very late and hence did not make any sense. We were completely uncertain about our onward travel since no information was available till we reached Dubai which was very frustrating.
Cons: Most horrible experience... customer service is horrible ... didn't even take the flight . They delayed the flight and they think it is ok to put us on any flight they want . I booked the flight because i was particular on the shortest duration of the flight they rebooked me on a flight that would have taken me to my destination after 36 hrs and the way the crew spoke was so horrible. It was as if they did me a favor by putting me on another flight.

Cons: First, the seats were very small and uncomfortable. I had trouble sleeping, and, the seat was stuck (couldn't move back). And second, the food tasted horrendous. I have been on many flights, and this was perhaps the worst meal I've ever had. The coffee was bitter enough to make me gag (even after I added cream), and the chicken was flavorless. The boarding process was a mess. It was hectic and unorganized. The flight was delayed an hour, and the crew failed to provide an adequate rationale as to why. Speaking of the crew, they weren't helpful. At one point, I had asked to use the restroom, and I couldn't get in. Again the crew provided no rationale as to why. Then, a few HOURS later, a lady approached me and said I could go "very quickly". This was my first time flying with Emirates and I don't think I'll be flying with them again.

Pros: Onboard crew- Bliss was the name of the crew member on board. Efficient and a joyful personality to engage. He connected , talked and responded warmly and efficiently.
Cons: Checking in at the airport- the staff person who I dealt with was combative and inflexible. I had to ask the manager to mediate till the matter was resolved. As frequent travelers, I am aware rules change and am willing to comply. Being told my hand baggage had to be checked in and I cannot redistribute the weight or put things into my checking bags that were yet to be tagged was unreasonable. Started my trip on a negative note which was avoidable. I have found the training crew get and the ground staff get are disparate. As efficient as the onboard crew are, the ground staff in DXB and now NYC do not match up.

Cons: I had 2.5 hours to get from terminal 5 to 4, check in and get to gate. I almost didn't make it. The lines at emirates check in were insane and didn't move for a long time (online checknin was unavailable). TSA at JFK also. Easy slow and my TSA precheck didn't appear for my pass.
Pros: My first time on Emirates and it was great. Lots of room and amenities even in economy. Food was surprisingly good.

Pros: The entire experience was first rate- an excellent web-based support network from flight planning through on-line checkin. Airport experience at both MXP and JFK was excellent.. attentive, efficient ground staff- as were aircrews on both our flights with Emirates. Top class, attentive.. really enjoyed the flight. And, we pushed back spot on time both legs.
Cons: They work the aircraft hard and it shows in small details.. broken latch in the head, bits of trash in the seatback pocket... but still head and shoulders above their competition. Oh, and it'd be nice to have bar service better coordinated with dinner.. the bar showed up quite a while after dinner was handed out. Tough if you prefer wine with your meal.

Pros: After what happened on Wednesday August 3rd I expected there to be some craziness but not like this. I was checked in by an employee who just started that day. She tells me in a faint voice "sir you may not make this flight". After that she tells me to check back 1 hour before the flight leaves. So I do, another teller states you made the flight please go to security. I have 45 minutes before the flight is schedule to leave at 3pm. I rush with my wife from one part of DXB to the other. Somehow make it there, but then have to wait for over 2 hours because of a connecting flight being delayed, unbelievable. Then when we land and I try to claim my bag, the bags are lost. Not just mine quite a few passengers. I go to baggage claim and the teller is screaming at me and other passangers "shut up, I don't care about your bag". This is the most disrespectful moment of the trip, never have I experienced a customer service provider yell at me like this. This experience is a direct reflection of emirates lack of management in their hiring process, as well as their ability to train their staff in high stress environments. Will I fly emirates again probably not, paying a premium for below average service is not worth it. The cabin crew were very thoughtful and respectful and made the trip bareable, their ground crew is anot her story.
Cons: Lack of management with staff, being unable to control a high stress level situation, additionally the lack of communication regarding the progress of my flight. Delays and set backs happen but communication would help me plan and be prepared accordingly.
Cons: I requested (at least 2 months ago) for a cake for my daughters Birthday which was on July 5th. I made the request over phone calling customer service in NY. Unfortunately it was not honored. When I called 2 days before the flight departure just to verify, I was told by the telephone Representative that the request was cancelled by Emirates as it was not entered properly ( ? ). And she can not do anything about that. Though the request was entered by Emirates Employee and Emirates just cancelled the request and did not bother to notify me. My daughter was so upset and was crying , and nothing I could do to make her happy. I will never fly Emirates again.

With such long flights you would think that an airline would want even economy to be somewhat comfortable sitting for 14hrs or more

Cons: I think JFK rather than Asiana was the issue. It was quite cold inside the boarding area, and the waiting area happened to be unpleasant because of a lack of seats and the noise. The announcements before boarding happened to be annoying. Lavatory happened to become quite messy at the end of the flight.

Pros: I saved my points, rolled points and purchased everything I could to be able to take Asiana first class from JFK-Seoul (Incheon). Pretty much a dream. 14 hours and I could have gone longer. Put it on your travel bucket list if you are heading to Asia.
Pros: Service is very polite. Attendants are some of the nicest I've ever met, though their English (and PA announcements, etc) will be a bit hard to understand unless you're used to communicating with folks for whom English is a second language. They're also all softspoken, which is very soothing, but even harder to understand what they're saying! Seats are also BIG and have a great recline (seat and seat back) on the Airbus. Flying on a daytime departure from NYC to ICN I had a lot of empty seats to stretch out on and it was pretty quiet for a long flight to Asia.
Cons: Seats are HARD! I'm not sure how you even make a hard airplane seat but they've figured it out on the Airbus for sure. The solution: get a second pillow to use as a seat cushion. Solves the problem. Also, the "upgrade" to the bulkhead seat is only good if you have a baby in a carrier or really long legs. If you like having your bags near you, or want to keep stuff at your feet to work on, or like to raise the arm between seats, or have a tray table and pocket in front of you... you won't have any of those in the bulkhead upgrade seat. And the phone customer support simply doesn't know enough English to explain these things properly. Fortunately someone else was happy to switch with me. Lastly, they really don't understand that special meals do not need to lack in flavor. Non-Lactose Meals are super boring in flavor - and there was no reason at all not to serve the bulgogi or spicy pork dishes for the NLML! They seemed surprised when I asked to switch it, which suggests to me that the attendants don't even know what 'non-lactose' means, though they were very sweet about confirming and delivering me my special (bland) meals. But asking for a packet of gochujang solves that problem!

Pros: The economy seats are quite roomy compared to other companies. The planes and Incheon airport get upgraded every year. Inheon is probably the best place for lay-over with plenty of options for acivities, from short and long tours, Korean bath house wity overnight stay option, easy and fast immigration, and great customer service always.

Pros: The flight attendants were responsive and polite. The foot rests at the economy seats were a nice bonus. The bathrooms were well stocked and mostly clean. The entertainment was OK. There were mostly action movies which aren't my thing.
Cons: The check-in line was about an hour long. There were way too few people at the counters for a very large plane. I pre-weighed my bags on scales that weren't being used and moved things around. The really stressful part was my carry on bag. It was overweight and transferred things to my handbag and into my suitcases as much as I could. The only things in my carry on were my laptop and medication. It was still 2 kilos overweight. I appealed to the manager who said I had to check it. Checking a bag with my medication would be dangerous to my health and we know they wouldn't reimburse me for the theft of my laptop. The manager, Yeonju Lee (first name may be spelled incorrectly) was completely inflexible and devoid of compassion as was the check in agent. They said the restriction was due to security measures, which is a lie. I've traveled all over the world with carry on over 20 pounds and there has never been a problem. They said I had to correct the problem in 7 minutes or I would not be allowed on the plane. Ultimately, I almost missed the flight. I had to ask people in the security line if I could go ahead of them. If I can avoid it, I will never fly Asiana again. The seats are hard as rocks which is difficult for a 14 hour flight.
