Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Delayed. Lost bag. Horrible service. Hidden fees. Will never use Frontier again."
Pros: "Great price, picked my seat (extra charge but worth it), friendly and competent crew, on time and not one hassle."
Cons: "Food choices very limited, especially when compared to the adult beverages available. It was a short flight so not a starvation issue but a few more choices would have been nice. Bring your own snack!"
Cons: "Flight was delayed 2 hours to start. Airline refused to give a reason! Finally it was operations. Then first officer times out, another 2 hour delay and instead of being proactive and having a Captain standing by because he was heading to time out we had another delay. Frontier has terrible gate agents who don't care. My flight that was to arrive at 10:55 PM arrived at 3:30 AM so I lost a day of work, had to cancel a meeting and lost an entire day because of Frontier's operations? Sounds like a poorly run airline who touts being low cost who nickel and dimes me to death. I WILL NEVER come back."
Pros: "Flight was on time, boarding was efficient"
Cons: "Uncomfortable seating, too crowded."
Pros: "Not much."
Cons: "The cost of the carry on luggage was close to the same as the cost of the flight. I do not appreciate that level of surprise extra cost, as it was not highlighted at the time of purchase! When we decided to save $5 per piece of luggage and check our bags, the check in attendant threw our bags onto the conveyor belt haphazardly with little regard for what may have been in them. The seats on the plane did not recline and were very uncomfortable. I am very dissatisfied, and will avoid flying with Frontier Airlines in the future."
Cons: "Arrived well before the flight to check bag which I paid $35 (highest rate for check in bag yet-compared to other airlines). Took over an hour to check bag as there was one person checking bags at DIA. The other employee was assigned to the customers who had paid a premium fee. Many of the customers left the long lines and went to curb side to check their bags. When I arrived at gate, flight was delayed. I got on the plane and into my seat. Unfortunately, I was not paying attention and sat in 8F, not 8E. There was a woman and her daughter who came on late and they gave 8E to the daughter. Moments later a woman, came and asked me to show my boarding pass. I took out my phone but forgot I had switched it to airplane mode as we were due to leave. In a full flight, the woman (Robin), started telling me that I was on the wrong flight and that I was on the later flight. I couldn't bring up my seat assignment because I was frazzled and embarrassed as she insisted I get up and leave with her. I thought we were going out to check my assignment, but when I got out to the gate, I realized that the plane was leaving. Robin and the crew realized they had made a mistake and told me the only thing they could do was get me on the 10 p.m. flight out of Denver. Never have I been treated so poorly. All someone had to do was ask my name which did not happen until I was totally humiliated as I struggled to get off the plane and was out at the gate. I was reimbursed my flight and was given a check and a $15 voucher for dinner which didn't cover my dinner. I took the later flight and arrived home at 0100 a.m. My husband had to come home from the coast (2 hour drive) to take care of our dogs who were waiting for me to come home to feed them and get them out of the heat."
Pros: "The flight left on time and arrived early."
Cons: "I didn't like that I had to pay for a carry-on and a seat assignment. And then to find out when on board, that I had to pay for any snack or beverage. Good thing I had a water in hand. I had flown Frontier many years ago when I received good service. This flight was just transportation....not a service oriented flight to get you to return. Also, we waited for 1/2 hour at baggage claim for our bags to finally appear..."
Pros: "We arrived early!"
Cons: "The $20 in extra charges for the most uncomfortable seats ever. I was also never made aware of the extra charges for carry on items. At least be up front about it. Made my round trip ticket almost $100 more in fees."
Cons: "Added cost just to get a window seat, carry on bags, and all food. Won't fly them again if I don't have to."
Pros: "The attendants made sure every one was comfortable before the flight took off, after the doors were close the offered open seats to customers that looked a bit crammed. They were very accommodating. I didn't eat any food, but it smelled amazing. I would definitely suggest Frontier to any one flying I know I will be booking with them again."
Cons: "The chairs weren't the most comfortable, luckily it wasn't a long flight. Is a bit much for checked in baggage. I understand charging for extra luggage but the first checked bag should be complimentary."
Pros: "Smooth flight, arrived early, fast boarding pricess."
Cons: "Everything was fine, no foodand only water for free, which was expected since rates are so low. So low score is only due to N/ A not being an option to rank."
Pros: "The crew was pretty friendly - friendlier than the other Frontier crews we had."
Cons: "Delay after delay after delay. Took us TWENTY extra hours to get home. Missed work and caused huge inconvenience to family and friends. Terrible airline, terrible experience."
Cons: "Plane was late"
Pros: "The seating is extremely restrictive. The seats no longer recline. Seating arrangement is a charge item. Carry on bags are a charge item. In flight beverages and food items are charge items. The air in the planes is low quality."
Cons: "The stewards(ess) are bitchy because they are trying to manage very unhappy passengers. They constantly spout warnings to shut up, sit down and do exactly as they say or you will be taken off the airplane in irons by an air marshal. There is no comfort or piece of mind on a Frontier plane. We will NEVER fly Frontier airlines again!"
Cons: "Having to pay for my one carry on....which fits in overhead easily. I was told I had to pay because I also had a small purse...which constitutes two carry on pieces. This is complete Bullshit. My purse is not luggage. Added costs were over $60 to my flight. Ridiculous and completely misleading. Seats don't recline and they're super uncomfortable."
Cons: "No complimentary drinks.. Everything including your carry on costs extra. Their prices are no cheaper than other airlines. Seats are not padded and don't recline. Worst airline ever."
Pros: "Direct flight"
Cons: "Very cheap and hard seats, pay for everything including carry ons, water, coffee and cheap food items. I will think twice about using this airline again."
Cons: "Charged additional fees at every turn. Even a "seat fee" was required to be allowed to get on the plane. So buy a ticket and fly, but until you can lie down in the aisle or stowaway in the toilet, youll be paying for your ticket 3 times or more. $40 "seat fees" $3 bottles of water"
Pros: "Fairly cheap tickets as long as you aren't packing anything but a jacket and don't want anything but water and don't want a seat assignment."
Cons: "The seats are crazy uncomfortable and don't recline. Felt like I was being asked for more money at every turn."
Pros: "On time"
Cons: "Prices of beverage and snacks"
Pros: "Flight was on time and the staff was friendly and helpful."
Cons: "We felt Frontier used the old "bait and switch" routine on us. We weren't aware to reserve a seat we had to pay an additional fee. We also were not informed that even one checked bag would cost us extra. Last, the baggage charge from Denver to Portland was $40 for one bag but on the return trip it was $30. Did we get ripped off in Denver??"
Pros: "No frills flying but it was fine. It was completely clear at booking and online check in that it costs for carry on bags."
Cons: "Canceled flight for weather. Stayed on line for 30 minutes to talk to someone who couldn't rebook me for a week and gave me a number for the airport desk so I wouldn't have to drive there but that number circled back to the one I just called, so I drove to the airport where no one was at the desk for an hour and again couldn't rebook OR give me a refund. Back home then for more calls. Entire trip was cancelled and ruined. Never have been treated like this by reputable airline where I could have been rerouted or offered a next day flight or switch to another airline."
Pros: "That we landed safely in the end."
Cons: "almost the entire flight had various levels of turbulence- no real announcements about it to ease passengers. Floors where a little dirty and of course the fact that the seats are tiny and you are in a 90 degree up-right position doesn't help. I think I saved $50 - but none of it was worth it - I'll be back to Delta from now on."
Cons: "The extra $100+ to bring one small bag and have a seat. Especially when advertised as $40 one way. Cost $350 round trip in the end."
Pros: "The plane got me to my destination safely. Cute animals on the tail. Free reading light mounted above seat. Free seatbelt."
Cons: "Paying money to reserve normal seats so I could sit next to my wife. Paying money for a carry on. Not getting refunded for the carry on we paid for in advance but didn't use. Not getting offered water on the flight.\ People on the flight not letting people with tight connections off first, even though crew had told them to. Air vent was way weak. Long pitch for their branded credit card."
Pros: "No frills Flights were efficient and pleasant staff at check in and on board."
Pros: "Crew were super"
Cons: "Leg room was tighter than previous flight, but adequate. They charge even for water."
Cons: "What is there to like people are crammed in like a can of sardines. For a guy of my size there was no room for anything the tray table was bs is so small a can of pop had no room to sit. The whole charge for checked bags OK I understand but for a carry on also who does that this is the only flight I've ever seen that's charges for a carry on. It took 45 min to get my luggage which is not OK way too long for making people wait for there stuff. Btw I'm never going to fly Frontier ever again and I'm going to tell friends and family to never fly with Frontier such a horrible experience......."
Pros: "excellent rates"
Cons: "flight was rather rough"
Pros: "Nothing! I feel sorry for the decent people they hired to work for them. Those employees need to switch to another airline!"
Cons: "Exactly the same comments I made on the other leg of the trip! Those comments also apply to the 2 legs of the trip going to Austin from PDX, except this one was even worse with a four hour delay and worries on not making the next connection! I wouldn't even wish Frontier Airlines on people I dislike! I hope they fail and go out of business! THEY DESERVE IT!!!!"
Pros: "If you are looking for a cheap fare, you probably won't find any cheaper."
Cons: "Maybe I haven't flown for a while but there is no longer any comfort on these flights. No room, no snack, no drink, no reclining seats... just sardines in the sky."
Pros: "Nothing redeeming about this"
Cons: "As soon as they started taking tickets to board the plane, we were stopped and told the flight was going to be delayed by an hour - for no specified reason (the weather is perfect in Denver and in Portland and the plane has been parked at the gate for several hours already). So now I'm going to be late to work when I get back to Portland, when I should have been home last night. For all of this I got a $25 credit toward my next flight purchase, which I'm not going to use because to hell with Frontier Airlines."
Cons: "I was quite uncomfortable in a middle seat. I picked out window seats ahead of time and did not get one on either flight"
Cons: "The most uncomfortable seats in the sky. Charging for carry-ons and even sodas seems very "cheap". The only thing provided in your fare is an uncomfortable seat, a seat belt and free cups of water. Unless it's some sort of evacuation, they'll NEVER see me again."
Pros: "The prices"
Cons: "The early check-in online was not working, tried 3 times and had to pay full price at airport check-in. Air on plane was not working properly and caused us to be extremely uncomfortable. No leg room."
Cons: "2$ for a can of soda. Really?! A tray the size of a hard cover book, how does that save the airline any money? 30 minute delay with no explanation?! 40 dollars for a carry on? No employee ever touched it, I did all the work and you charge 40$! I haven't flown Frontier in 6-7 years but the changes I've seen are not positive."
Pros: "Cheap flight"
Cons: "Extra costs after booking your ticket for a seat and luggage."
Pros: "Price of the flight"
Cons: "Seats were uncomfortable. Flight wasn't really cleaned well from previous."
Pros: "Great everyone very polite."
Cons: "No food, just snacks."
Pros: "Not much. Very uncomfortable seating. Lots of hidden charges."
Cons: "Did not like much."
Cons: "Same as above."
Cons: "I wasn't expecting to pay for my carry on luggage piece."
Cons: "We had to pay for are baggage 40 dollars for each bag I won't be flying frontier ever again"
Pros: "The fact that it was non stop"
Cons: "The part about the flight attendants turning into cabin cleaners at the end. It doesn't engender a lot of confidence that these people are professionals who would know what to do in case of emergency, and it is insulting to them. They are serving food and cleaning toilets? And who is to say what my own standards are? I never heard that part before and it was insulting to them and to the passengers. If you have to cut corners by not getting and paying for a professional cleaning crew, why would we believe that safety is a priority and that you don't cut many other corners for a bottom line profit. And what kind of creepy crawlers were we sitting in if the last passengers had the job of cleaning the cabin sprung on them in the end ? If this is our responsibility, give us some informed consent before we get on your plane. Yuck."
Pros: "The flight and the crew were excellent! Check in, boarding, crew service during the flight, and disembarking were perfectly handled."
Cons: "The fees for anything additional to the regular flight are enough to make me think twice about flying Frontier on a longer vacation. Also, I'm not overly tall, but I found the leg-room to be very lacking!"
Pros: "Even the premium seats are uncomfortable! Crew was very nice."
Pros: "Same as above"
Cons: "Same as above."
Pros: "Crew was nice. However the spirit airline attendant at the desk told me to gate check my bag. I stood there waiting for someone to grab my bag for sometime. So I asked the stewardess and she told me just to bring the bag in and put my carry on in the over head compartment."
Cons: "However the desk attendant came on the aircraft took my bag out of the overhead compartment. And then left it outside or the plane. I waited at the airport for until 1:30am before I got a confirmation that the back was in fact at Newark still. I had a nursing convention to go to and I had no clothing. So I had to Uber to Walmart than Uber back to my hotel. So I didn’t get any sleep. I didn’t check into my hotel til 4am due to a negligent spirit employee. I paid for the checked bag and there was plenty of space in the over head compartment. She caused me unnecessary stress and an embarrassing morning with my administrators due to my lack of sleep."
Pros: "The modern planes and on time arrival and departure."
Cons: "Unfriendly check-in staff, unpleasant crew members and pokey seats. Having to pay for water on a 3.5 hour flight took cheapness to a new low. My first experience with Spirit Airlines will probably be my last."
Pros: "Got to our destination quickly"
Cons: "I'm 6 feet tall. No leg room with spirit."
Pros: "We had a weather delay— so we sat in the plane for 3 hours before we left. Should have had the option go leave."
Pros: "Nothing. How could a flight not give free water? People need to take meds and should be required to pay $5 for bottled at the terminal. Everything is just highway robbery. Some folks don’t even have a credit card or fir that matter the cash."
Cons: "I was totally humiliated at the gate when I was taken off line because I had one extra bag to carry on. I was then charged $65 to then bring it on board an additional $20 to secure a sit since the flight had been over booked. The flight was delayed for the late arrival of on board staff. Most of the passengers were flight crew either connecting."
Pros: "Absolutely nothing"
Cons: "Bag drop off was unorganized and slow causing a delay in departure, causing a 2 hour flight to turn into a 7.5 hour ordeal with uninformed and unpleasant staff. I sat on the plane from 3pm-10:30. Staff had no clue and charged everyone for food. You get what you pay for & im never flying Spirit again."
Pros: "ticket price"
Cons: "baggage charges. carryon fees, outregous"
Cons: "Flight was rescheduled twice! And when I called to see if it was going to get canceled they said that it might still take off at the original time, even though I got 2 emails saying it was rescheduled. This made it really frustrating because we would not make it on time if it took off at the originally scheduled time! We rushed over to the airport just to be told it was taking off late again! So we waited at the airport for 2 more hours!"
Pros: "On time"
Pros: "The seats on some Spirit planes are uncomfortable"
Cons: "Seats and there’s no entertainment"
Cons: "They weren’t stocked with items on the menu. Crew members were sarcastic about people changing seats despite the amount of vacancy."
Pros: "The crew was great and did their best to make the flight smooth. The plane was a pretty color yellow..."
Cons: "Baggage fees were ridiculous. If you check your bag, it's $52. If you carry on, it's $57. During the flight, you pay for any beverages or snacks. Also, we purchased our tickets together, obviously to be sat together. On our return flight, we were instructed to purchase seats if we wanted to be together, otherwise there were no assignments. We got charged an additional $40. Overall, we spent an additional $200! We chose this airline for the lower fares, but they get their money back by charging for everything. You pay for everything. I was very dissatisfied and likely to never fly this airline again."
Pros: "It took me from point A to point B."
Cons: "Baggage fees are ridiculous. Never again with Spirit."
Pros: "Kind attendants"
Cons: "Too many "hidden" and extra costs"
Pros: "Landed early"
Cons: "We were stuck for over 30 minutes at landing gate."
Cons: "No leg room and delayed one hour"
Cons: "I wasn't notified that the flight was gonna be delayed! Waited over an hour being lied to every couple of minutes that we ready to board and nothing happened !!! Last time I fly with this airlines and will definitely let others know my experience terrible terrible !"
Pros: "The Flight attendants and the pilots were great,"
Cons: "The flight was aver an hour delayed. With all the mess from the original flight to Chicago, I will never fly Spirit again."
Cons: "I understand that spirit is a cheap airlines particularly serving those without luggage; however, when having luggage I spent $200 for a flight to pdx to lax - not a good deal. $200 for that flight should come with some kind of incredible perks which is not the case with spirit where you don't even get proper flight updates on the screen or tray tables. Also, it is clear that your airlines prey on those who follow directions as I saw handfuls of people walking through the gate with their luggage and not being charged, my boyfriend/travel companion for example paid nothing for his luggage, disregarded all memos via loud speaker and walked on with his unpaid for luggage. The experience with spirit was undesirable in every way and I will never chose this airline over another (luggage in hard or not) after the poor experience and being completely ripped off. I plan to share this message with social media and yelp sites as well."
Cons: "I didn't have a flight on spirit, they rebooked us on Delta."
Cons: "Flight was cancelled"
Cons: "I was on a Spirit flight."
Pros: "Seats had enough room"
Cons: "No pretzels"
Pros: "We thought we were getting tickets at a reasonable price."
Cons: "The price would have been reasonable if we didn't have to pay extra for EVERYTHING."
Pros: "I loved that the flight was cheap. I only brought a backpack so I didn't have to pay any extra fees. I didn't care about the food packages so once again I didn't pay any extra. The flight attendants were awesome! I did the online boarding and it was really easy to navigate"
Cons: "The seats were small, but the flight wasn't long so it wasn't bad. If you have to buy a bag make sure you do it before you get to the terminal. It's the cheapest to do online and then the price just continues to raise as you become closer to actually boarding the plane."
Cons: "Flight was delayed 3 hrs"
Cons: "Terrible. 6 hour delay."
Pros: "Plane was clean"
Cons: "Over two hour and a half hour delay and customers weren't offered and free drinks or snacks as flight crew only tried hustling guests into getting a credit card."
Pros: "Everything was fine"
Pros: "No crew members are constantly going up and down the isles selling or passing out food."
Cons: "The trays in front are laughable and no reclining button."
Pros: "My own downloaded movie that I watched on my phone. Also needed/enjoyed the 2 bottles of wine that I purchased."
Cons: "Tight seat and screaming child right behind me, even after paying extra for the seat. Ugh!"
Pros: "The lady that did my check in was very nice and welcoming"
Cons: "While I was standing at the line waiting to give my suitcase, another attend was available but she was besy talking to her friend the second attended, so when I stand there for a few min and no body was there , I approach to the attendant that spoke to her friend and she gave my that attitude and send me back to the line . So eventually the lady that was besy got me and took care of me , but was rude !!"
Cons: "See above."
Pros: "Free hotel and food. They also provided for a taxi to and from the hotel."
Cons: "They sent the plane 30 minutes prior to when I, and 36 others arrived on another delayed flight."
Cons: "Cancelled it with no explanation Lengthy phone call"
Pros: "Not much to like about their service. Not worth the ticket price, there are all these hidden fees. No customer support. Flight insurance offered is missleading. Awful horrible bad pewtrid service."
Cons: "I purchased the flight insurance just in case plans neede to change, and they did. I flew my first leg with a different airlines; I needed to get to my destination sooner than I had origionally booked. Spirit makes it difficult to speak with anyone so I could not communicate my change. My return flight home was canceled even though I had paid for it. They would not help me return home at all. Spirt is awful. Their travel insurance is missleading. Spirit is the absolute worst as far as customer service. I cannot say enough bad about their service. Don't bother calling any phone numbers given, you'll be on hold hell for ever, with no pathway leading to speak to an actual human. RIP OFF."
Cons: "The lights were on the entire night flight, and got brighter when advertisements were being made."
Cons: "They wanted to charge me for a bag I'd already brought on previous flight with their airline. Again, it was a last minute booking, which was unquestionably cheap, so I can't complain too much."
Pros: "Crew was polite and rapidly boarded."
Cons: "Our plane was late to arrive, then had computer issues. We were delayed about 2.5 hours to our arrival."
Cons: "My first flight was delayed so much that, even though the second flight was also delayed, Spirit Airlines did not allow me to make the connection. Compensation was a hotel room until 12pm (even though the make-up flight is scheduled for almost eight hours later, at 7:55pm), taxis to and from the airport, and three $7 vouchers. Who can get a decent meal in a tourist destination for $7??? Will avoid this airline at all costs in the future."
Pros: "My re-booked flight was on Alaska Airlines and was much more comfortable than the Spirit flight would have been."
Cons: "I had to stay overnight when I could have made my original connection but wasn't permitted to board."
Cons: "The flight was delayed 2.5 hours. This crew was frienldier than our earlier flight though."
Cons: "There were several open seats and no one was allowed to go in the exit row. Not safe. Also boarding people were rude. I won't be flying spirit again."
Cons: "I was pretty turned off by spirit asking me 4 times for money to make their production more green, when they don't have mobile boarding. It seems blatantly scammy since they charge $10 to print the pass for you. I'd like to know the percentage of people who fly to a destination and have reasonable access to a printer so they can print their return flight home. I'm never flying spirit again."
Cons: "Spirit airlines scammed me and was a terrible value. I bought an inexpensive ticket ($70) without realizing that I would pay more than the flight for my bag and carry on ($85). The flight was delayed over 2 hours due to maintenance, so I missed the greyhound bus I needed to catch, and the people at customer service offered no reimbursement. They charged for everything (even water!) on the plane and I was only able to get water for medical reasons (once I told them I had a headache). The staff was rude and unapologetic. I usually fly southwest, and will do so in the future, because it is a much better value, considering they don't charge for bags and are usually inexpensive."
Cons: "Crazy unclear fees. Horrible."
Cons: "5 hour delay, terrible communication, poor customer service"
Pros: "The employees were very nice but put into a bad position by their management"
Cons: "When a flight is booked, pilots should be scheduled. I understand that things happen but communication is key. Telling people that the plane is here and we should be boarding soon is a big mistake when you do not have pilots ready and available. Stop over promising and under delivering."
