I got there safely.

I will never fly American Airlines again. From the moment I checked in with the ticket agent to getting off the plane it was a disaster. The ticket agent was rude, hostile, and dismissive. Employees walked through the line at security forcing everyone to consolidate their belongings to one bag. I had a large wallet in my hand and was told I had to step out of line to put it in my backpack. They only allow you one bag to carry on without paying extra. At the time of boarding they announced that the overhead storage was full so even those that paid extra were still forced to check their bags. The plane was dirty, the service was slow, overall just gross. They don’t have WiFi or in flight entertainment so I paid the $20 to purchase the WiFi. It was worthless. I couldn’t stream anything, even music kept stopping to buffer. I understand it will be slower then on ground WiFi, but it was impossible to watch anything and a complete waste of money.

I liked having the built in screen on the a321. Americans streaming service has lots to offer but the built in screens have more choices. I get why they want to just offer the streaming but I appreciate all the choices! There was a group number enforcer at the gate to make boarding more organized! She was polite but told the mobs that try to use the premium line to wait their turn.

I asked for upgrades to and from Chicago. I’m a gold member and fly for leisure fairly often. There are so many people looking for an upgrade these days that you’re rarely getting the opportunity

It was short

Completely full plane. Ridiculously tight seat pitch. Overhead bins full. 45-minute delay for a dead-heading flight crew. Long wait for checked baggage. No beverage service because of turbulence. Flight crew out of position is a management problem, don't make it an inconvenience for a 737 full of paying passengers!

Premium economy is the way to go for a long haul flight. We were comfortable and able to get some sleep.

The crew on the way to Sydney was a little more present. There was always someone milling in the galley between the business class and premium economy cabin. The crew returning came through the cabin often and were attentive if you asked for them but you had to seek them out.

One of the flight attendants was nice.

AA is now trying to save money (presumably) by doing like Delta: forcing half of us to connect in Charlotte. Unfortunately, the Charlotte airport is not ready to accommodate so many people. The airport looks like it is being renovated, which is fine, but there is no tape/cones to mark off the renovated areas from the walkways. You literally walk through dirt and construction sites. I didn't even think that was legal in the US?! Anyway, maybe it will be worth it once the renovations are complete, especially if AA is going to use it as a hub.

We arrived safely at PDX

We left 3 hrs late, arrived very late at night, I did not get home until 2 a.m. There was no apology. There were no plugs for computers in the back of the plane and I got stuck between a fat person to my left and a fat person in front of me who leaned their seat back as far as possible. It was hideous.

For a little over $2000 you get an economy seat non-stop from DC to Tokyo and back. Meals were good. As economy seats go, it's comfortable. Midweek the flight is about half to two thirds full. So you might be able to stretch out even!

For an airplane with about 240 seats to have a preboarding waiting area with only 16 chairs is completely ridiculous. The plane was configured in such a way that we were packed like sardines. I had an aisle seat and had water spilled on me numerous times by the flight attendants as they moved up and down the aisles trying to take care of passengers and I was continually bumped by passengers attempting to get to the bathroom or who were waiting to use one. For a flight that was close to 6 hours in duration this made for a miserable experience all the way around.

The boarding process is ridiculously slow. Why not load from the back row first? Then you wouldn't have 150 people behind one slowpoke. You could cut the boarding process time by 90%.

The captain was communicative while we were experiencing turbulence and the flight was relatively quick.

I received different info from every united employee I spoke to. Myself and others on both my flights were frustrated by the fact that our gates were so far from each other and we had NO time to get to the next one because the first flight took so long to taxi. And then they treated us like children as we were trying to get our "carry on" items. Overall NOT a good experience.

I appreciated that we boarded quickly. Again the crew was great!

We were assigned seats that didn't recline, and we'd been travelling since 4:30am Pacific time. Flight was full so we were stuck. Our electrical outlet was smashed and unusable to charge my phone, which I needed for sending work emails and contacting clients. I was surprised that there was no free content on the tvs. I actually just wanted to see the map and it required I pay.

Prices are per person and are for e–tickets and include all taxes & fees in USD.

We attempt to get accurate prices, however, prices are not guaranteed.

Here's why:

We’re not the seller.
At KAYAK we don’t set the prices, so it’s not possible for us to guarantee what other companies are selling.

We compile tonnes of data for you
Our service lets you quickly and easily compare results from hundreds of travel sites at once. In this sense, KAYAK is a search engine and we can't guarantee prices we find.

Why aren’t prices accurate 100% of the time?
Prices on airline seats, hotel rooms and car rentals can change frequently. Several people may also be trying to buy the same travel option simultaneously. As a result, you may find, on occasion, that certain prices are no longer available.

If you have more questions or if you have a bad price to report to us,
please send us an and someone from our team will get back to you promptly.

The fares displayed include all taxes and fees for economy class travel and were found by the provider in the last 72 hours. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights and days.
