KAYAK’s top tips for finding a cheap flight from San Diego to Vienna

  • San Diego International Airport (SAN) is the primary airport serving San Diego. It is located approximately 3 miles northwest of downtown San Diego and serves as a focus city for Alaska and Southwest Airlines. Vienna International Airport (VIE) is the main airport serving Vienna, Austria's capital. It is located in Schwechat, about 11 miles southwest of Vienna, and serves as the hub for Austrian Airlines, Wizz Air, and Ryanair.
  • On the day you are set to travel, strive to arrive at SAN at least 90 minutes before departure time. SAN is usually a busy airport with long queues at the security checkpoints; thus, arriving early will allow you enough time to go through security and not miss your flight. Furthermore, arriving early gives you plenty of time to explore some of the airport's attractions.
  • Travelers Aid, a non-profit organization, has partnered with SAN to assist and guide stranded passengers at the airport. The organization has desks at the airport in two locations: Terminal 1's baggage claim area and Terminal 2's baggage claim area. Volunteers from the organization assist passengers with airport and destination questions, such as emergency housing and transportation assistance.
  • In case you need a quiet place to nap or relax after landing at VIE, head to Zzzleepandgo Sleep Pods. The soundproof sleep pods are located on the second floor of Terminal 2 and are equipped with a daybed, electrical outlets, high-speed internet access, and a flight status screen.
  • If you still have time at VIE airport, take your child to one of the airport's children's play areas. Most children prefer the Family Fun Gate in Terminal 3 just before the shopping area. It features a slide, climbing walls, a labyrinth, and revolving doors. Another interesting location to visit is the Family Corner, which is located near gates F and G and has several interactive game screens.

Not so good. I paid for a preference economic seat, and I couldn’t incline it back because it was blocked. They explained me that because is the last before emergency exit. The company new that but it was not explained in the seat selection

Not so good. I paid for a preference economic seat, and I couldn’t incline it back because it was blocked. They explained me that because is the last before emergency exit. The company new that but it was not explained in the seat selection

It was on time. Snacks could have been provided for free.

Tirana was crazy check in and getting bussed to another gate. Both Germany stops were intensive customs but organized, but that wasn't the airlines problem. The crews were fabulous on the planes. The announcements were not easy to understand in English, slurred speech. Customs inthe US were fast. We waited for luggage, three later arriving planes had their luggage and left before us

Business class old style from 10 years ago. Ok for short flights but nor for 12 hours journey. The passenger near the window have to jump over the passenger seat aisle side or wake him up to upright the seat. That’s not the business class that you expect on long night flight. Seats are not so confortable. And believe it or not no wifi!

We have travelled on 13 December with Austrian Airlines from Yangon through Bangkok and Vienna to Varna. The first flight operated by Thai Airlines was nice and comfortable. I wouldn’t say the same thing about the next two flights which were operated directly by the Austrian Airlines. During our flight from Bangkok to Vienna:  > The service was very poor – serving of food and drinks was disorganized, late and not combined, the stewards were walking back and forth without doing anything substantial for the passengers. Even the morning breakfast was very late with a cup of coffee almost while landing (after a reminding).  > The food itself was OK-ish but for a 12-hour flight, there were no snacks/bites in between dinner and breakfast as it is with the other airlines.  > The cutlery was wooden, most probably recycling, but very unpleasant to eat with.  > The stewards were not rude but not friendly and/or helpful  > And also, half of the passengers had travel sets, others did not. The flight from Vienna to Varna was another surprise: firstly, the flight was late and secondly, they were serving only water free, even the coffee was paid, so were the snacks, but we had to pay to reserve seats. The whole experience is as if it was a low-cost airline. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend using the services of Austrian Airlines: the ticket prizes are quite the same as of the other carriers flying to this destination and you would have much pleasant time.

Friendly staff, always good food , as comfortable as it can be in economy

Business class is not worth it. Not comfortable and old plane with no privacy or enough space unless you on the single seats

We didn’t fly into Neuark , because it departed without us . We ran to a closed gate , and no staff to assist, then to a customer service center that was also closed, then briskly walked (20mins) to another customer center and got a ticket , waited 2 hours , got a flight to JFK instead, because of the time delay we Ran to catch our train home , and again our luggage arrived 3 days later delivery time at 3:45 in the MORNING!!!! Crazy!!!!!! Took a few days to shake off this disappointment of your service. You’re an embarrassment to customer service .

A bellow average experience. A delayed flight , no staff to assist , running and panic to connecting flight , 2 hour wait for customer service. No luggage when we arrived , luggage delivered 3 days after at 3:45 AM !!!! Much stress and anxiety from this experience. Please repair your Brand .

My luggage was lost and I did not receive any compensation

Everything is good except the dinner and breakfast. The sandwich is very delicious. Toilet is clean, I only use one of them. Flight attendants are very nice. 👍👍

The gate was too far away for the connecting flight

Compared with other carriers business class for an overnight was not worth the extra expense.

Seats were comfortable. It’s was so cold and very uncomfortable. I paid 2000 miles for wifi service that was choppy the whole flight. Would like to be reimbursed for my miles Food was so disappointing. Three cold and terrible meals for $3000 round trip. This needs to be better.

Easy to board. Flight was super crowded though so I didn't sleep well on that cross country red-eye flight. The aisles seem ot have gotten narrower and the seat smaller whn luggage and people are getting bigger so it would be AWESOME to have more space and breathing room in general ;)

Pilot Erika DeLong made us feel safe and at ease in a frankly scary time to be flying. Her warm smile and greeting and excellent command of the aircraft in foggy bumpy weather helped us all to calm our nerves and get us home safely.

Plenty of room for me and the cat in Premium Economy. Seat was comfortable. Boarding was a breeze. The lady at the special check-in desk was great, super helpful and professional.

Smooth flight. As always dinner could have been more generous. Breakfast was great.

AWFUL. I have had the experience of traveling with many airlines across the world, and hands down United Airlines is the worst. Not one flight was on time, and I don’t think I met one crew member or staff member who wasn’t rude.

Old and out of date plane, it seem like every time I fly with united there’s and issue. We were delayed,

Good service … bus transfer upon arrival from plane to terminal: atrocious!!!

helpful and friendly. The Lufthanza people I dealt with before my holiday were so unhelpful by comparison.

My flight was late from US to Frankfurt so I missed my connecting flight flight and I had to wait for long to catch the next flight which was very tiring. Otherwise everyone was very nice.

Everything went really well. Snacks could be better and there was no tea/coffee service after dinner. Crew was helpful and friendly.

Lufthansa charged me $280 to take skiiis when in the US the boot bag and skiis are one check-in bag. This was not advertised and a real shock at the airport. They only took the boot bag as a check-in item. The seats have been squeezed together like any economy airline and legroom is not as good as it used to be. Otherwise, the flight was fine and staff was helpful for making my connection.

Professional crew and staff, very organized boarding and on time flights, baggage handling. Indian vegetarian meals were good, though could improve by offering Indian bread (naan/paratha/roti) as well. Very helpful pre flight emails with details of onboard experience 👍 Above average selection of movies. Consider offering more movies with subtitles and ratings indicators (e.g., IMDB scores).

Terrible experience. Should be a short simple flight from San Francisco to Palm Springs. Disgusting insult that United Air doesn’t have a cabin crew ready to receive a plane that’s already an hour plus late in departure. Lots of misinformation along the way from cockpit and crew. Definitely unimpressed with both union and management.

My flight was delayed d the gate was never updated inside the terminal. If I hadn’t checked my email I would have missed my flight. Also, I paid a total of $5100 for my flight to be. Business or first class. My final leg of my flight from Heathrow to Frankfurt was not to standard of what I expected or experienced in the previous legs of my trip.

I requested a wheelchair for they haven’t got it, they are old and don’t speech english

I arrived late in Frankfurt and I had to catch my flight to Vienna and I was running late because when I was landing the flight to Vienna was boarding. I had to go through immigration and then I had to wait in a long line to take a bus to a terminal where my flight to Vienna was taking off. However, I truly didn't think I would make it. I was literally running through the whole airport and when I stopped to ask at one of the Austrian Airlines gates they were rude because they didn't have the time to support me.

Too much long line at the TSA and Security. Prepare for long walk for baggage claim.

The flight from Seattle was delayed, which made me miss my connection to Florence. I was re-booked NINE HOURS LATER!!! That’s basically a vacation day lost. British Airways needs to partner with other airlines when possible to get a more realistic travel time, if delays occur. I realize there aren’t many flights to Florence from London, so I would book differently were I to return. The actual flight from Seattle was very comfortable and the crew was great, no faults there. I enjoy British Airways, this was an anomaly.

The crew could not have been more helpful, my meal was excellent, I slept peacefully until right before landing, and the BA lounge was a godsend. The only negative I encountered was the coffee both on the plane and in the lounge. Not to my taste but that’s a personal preference.

I don’t understand why a reputable airline like BA would delegate their London flights to AA. Makes no sense to me, as most domestic carriers do such a poor job these days. Terminal 3 at LHR is a total dump

The boarding process was quite loud and chaotic. The flight attendants kept barking over the PA system about people needing to only stow large items in the overhead bins. During the one and only service, I was hit by the service cart. At the same time, a passenger was returning from the bathroom and the crew definitely saw him but stopped a few seats short of allowing him to sit down before starting service and made him wait a good 10 minutes before passing his seat and allowing him to sit down, after which he had to ask for his snack and beverage or he would have been passed over. Neither flight attendant thanked passengers as they left; in fact, I did not see them again once the plane door was opened.

Cancelled flight minutes before boarding. Rescheduled flight was two days later

The flight attendants were EXTREMELY personable and appreciated the service, lights going off after dinner (probably the norm, but I haven’t flown evening overnight flights in a while). Thank you!

Business class seats were very dated on my plane. Very little storage, charging ports were not easily accessible, tv screen kept flopping away. Vegetarian food was disappointing: hardly any protein and severely under-seasoned. Crew was lovely.

The food was ok, but not great. They delayed boarding in Portland and did not enforce group boarding. But the crew was excellent, went above and beyond.

The food was pathetic. There wasn't much leg room and recline space for such a long flight. No tea/ coffee for a 2-3 hour connecting flight without purchasing! Really!?
