While I can understand that the airline industry is a tough business, I did have a horrible experience with American Airlines. This will probably be my last time booking travel with this airline. To start, my first return flight on Sunday July 25th at 5:00 pm, AA 2779, had been delayed for more than six hours and the gate agents canceled our flight at the last minute. This problem occurred due to short staffing and the airline was unable to find a replacement co-pilot. As a result, I had to stay an extra night in Chicago and spend 120 dollars on a Lyft ride-share from the airport. However, I did manage to secure another flight during the following day, AA 4962, and I was happy to finally arrive home. Please take all of this into consideration and I would demand some compensation for the inconvenience.

Pros: "I think crew tried to make the best of the bad situation. Got to Atlanta faster than scheduled flight time and they were sympathetic. Don't really know about much else, as I slept the whole flight."
Cons: "The 3 hour delay really cost us. Left Rome at 2:30 pm instead of 11:30 am, so missed 6:40 pm flight to Atlanta (so much for the 3 1/2 hour layover we were supposed to have). When we landed in Philadelphia, sat on runway for 45 minutes, waiting for gate. Next flight was supposed to leave at 8:40, took off at midnight."
Pros: "Boarded and left in-time. Arrived a little early. Friendly crew and good app for entertainment on smartphone or tablet. App tracks baggage."
Cons: "Long lines for self-serve bag kiosks at LAX and not enough agents to assist. Baggage agent left the desk saying she had to go on a lunch break and another agent had to take over. Seemed like some confusion with the staffing which slowed things down."
Pros: "Seats, check in, baggage claim all good."
Cons: "Lousy Wi-Fi on board"
Pros: "It was not a full flight so I didn’t feel cramped and had space for my carry on in the overhead compartments instead of having to check it in due to lack of space like I had to do on all the other AA flights."
Cons: "We were given last minute notice our flight was going to be delayed and our gate changed 3 times. There was never a definite time frame for anything and very vague information was given. Our flight ended up being delayed almost 2 hours. It was my most frustrating experience with any airline. Definitely would not choose to fly with them again"

Cons: "The one carry-on policy was silly and included personal items. I was told to repack my purse into my backpack which was already full. The boarding staff stood over me and told me to throw stuff away in my backpack and asked why I had packed certain things. I am in the process of moving back to the US from Korea after two years so everything I had was everything I owned in the world - which included some sentimental things like a stuffed animal from my mother who passed away when I was three years old. The most infuriating part of this however was realizing that there was one other bag in my overhead bin. In fact most of the overhead bins had one to two bags and plenty of room. My repacking and humiliation was unnecessary and it was only for the morbid satisfaction of the lady at boarding demanding it. At one point I heard her talking with her coworkers about “why couldn’t they freaking listen. We announced it three times.” Well I had approached the counter prior to arrival and they told me to get back in line when I tried to ask about my purse and backpack. In additional to the frustration of all of that, I received my checked in luggage with a wheel missing. I had just bought it and now I have to ship a wheel from the vendor in South Korea or buy new luggage. Thank you guys so much for letting me know which airline to never fly with again."
Cons: "The man at the gate was rude and tried to tell me I needed to pay 50$ to bring on my small purse, while his assistant said I could put it in my carry-on. Even more strict that Spieit airlines and higher prices. They didn't even bring around drinks because of "turbulence" unless you were first class. The plane shook slightly more than a smooth flight for only a small fraction of the flight."

Cons: "I never felt like writing a review but I feel like I should let other families with little ones know. My wife, 2 year old son, and I was boarding at the gate and they couldn't scan my son's boarding pass. They quickly went over to the computer station and gave my son another pass. We went to our seats and found out someone else is in our 2year old seat. Apparently they gave the seat to someone else at the last second because up to the point when I printed our boarding passes at the kiosk, our seats were still together (and I paid $41/per seat extra to try to keep us together). The other customer was nice enough to switch with our son so were able to stay together at the last min so it goes to show AA priority and service."

Cons: "Basically, when i was boarding there was a 60 min call for closing the gate, which I went up front to check in. However the front person totally ignored me, and I missed my flight coming back. After that I had to pay extra $275 (or close to that amount) to reschedule the flight. Worst experience ever."
Cons: "The kiosk had no where to enter my DoD number to get precheck. There was also no option to select military baggage. Due to the lack of options on the kiosk I had to wait in the customer service line for almost an hour. The flight was fine. Then my baggage turned out to be flying on a much later flight so it has to be shipped to me. I am very unsatisfied and disappointed with this airline."

Cons: "I used to fly USAir all the time. The service was excellent. Following the merger, not so much anymore. The seat was very cramped. So much so that I had trouble walking when I got off the plane, and I'm in pretty good shape. I used to get upgraded often with USAir. Now that I have 3 times the mileage built up, it never happens. This wasn't the worst American flight , however. I recently had the displeasure of flying on one of the new planes, and that seat was so upright, cramped, and hard, it was like being on Spirit! (And I refuse to get on their planes ever again) my entire body was sore and stiff after flying on the new AA jet."

We had 4 people in our row (including my son in my lap), when I let my son walk down the aisle I noticed rows with only 1 person. Flight crew should of asked if someone wanted to move for more space. They ran over the guy's foot across the aisle from me & were rude about it."

The ground staff wasn't at all helpful in trying to get me on another flight and in fact sent me to Delta! The lady there couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. Sadly I wasn't compensated at all and had to pay to re-book the flights on the Sunday 17th. On my return from Brisbane, American Airlines had cancelled my flight to Atlanta as they said I was a 'no show' heading out. Thankfully I was able to get a seat on stand by. So, no I'm not a happy customer."

Was #1 and #2 on waiting list for last 4 flights of the day, but was not given a seat. Others who were either employees or also waiting somehow got a seat though. How is this? Had to sleep in airport and pray to make the AM flight. I'm so disappointed that we are not picked in waiting order. No, all the others did not have priority seating or something. Passengers talk while waiting, so I know I'm not assuming this. We also heard the employees conversations about "hoping to get a seat too". None of us were told our new flight assignments were "stand by" either. If I was aware of this, I would have made another flight arrangement or could have driven to my destination! I paid for a ticket, yet employees on stand by flight get priority. Not right!"

So when I tried to have American change the airport so that I can take another flight not only were they careless about my loss nobody tried helping me rebook they just told me the only thing I can pay $200 plus another ticket for about $600 or use another airline it may be cheaper i thought that was so rude an they would have a little sympathy but they did not. I end up spending $328 an using a whole other airline for a honest mistake I'm just very dissatisfied an disappointed that American airline would do that to me on one of the hardest times in my life an I hope they never treat anybody they way they did me."

Cons: "Seats are way too close together. I am 6’ tall and if I wasn’t sitting with my rear pressed against the back of the seat, my knees were jammed into the seat in front of me. Zero elbow room. I’m fairly skinny and still thank god I had the aisle seat because with arms at my sides, my shoulders touched the small woman next to me and stuck into the aisle so that when the drink cart came by I had to physically lean toward the windows to get out of the way. No entertainment unless paid for, which is fine, except that the flight attendant and the announcements both stated that at least a movie was included. Outdated jet. No where to charge anything. Couldn’t work on my computer because to type, my elbow took up most of the other persons seat."

Pros: "The price was unreal so I had to jump on this, I was able to get on and off with my backpack no problem. The flights were good, captains were very communicative about times, expectations and when turbulence was present."
Cons: "The check in had to be done in person because of the need to check my bag size, I felt a little insulted that I would have to be checked on my honesty. When I got to the check in it was like watching a special forces team measuring and prodding peoples bags to get them in to the little box even when the shapes were the reason they couldn't fit, not the size of the bags. I literally watched someone fit their bag and the attendant take it out and make it misshaped for the box and show how it didn't slide in. I had no issues with my luggage, but that sucked to watch happen to others. The food and drinks came about 10 minutes before the plane landed."

Cons: "Seats were uncomfortably close together but not unexpectedly for coach. Plane was 80+ degrees until after takeoff. I bet that the snack box was going to be disappointing and i lost $9. It was surprisingly good."
Pros: "For the first time I did not fly on a puddle jumper. Not only was it a real jet, it had good seat comfort and leg room even in economy class. The crew was friendly and attentive. They came by with offerings of water at least 4 times for a 2+ hour flight. Contrast that with my last two 5 hour flights on Virgin and American where they came by with water — ONCE. WiFi wasn’t working for either flight and of course the lack of decent food is discouraging. The coffee has improved which is a plus. Overall, good job, United! Nice not to be jammed in like sardines for once."
Cons: "Every time I fly to Denver, we land in one terminal and your connection is in another terminal that requires a train ride to get there. ,ayovers are short — generally barely an hour. If the flight is late you stand a very good chance of missing your connection, as I’m betting happened to over half the passengers on this flight. I was the lucky exception — this aircraft was actually the connecting flight too. Why can’t all United connections be in the same terminal? It makes no sense."

Cons: "United airlines employee Mearle at the check in counter was extremely disrespectful, Rude, and arrogant towards everyone in line at the counter Trying to check in. Many customers including us waitted in the check in line for 35 minutes or more while Mearle proceeded to chat on her cell phone (personal call), and taking a break leaning the check in counter while everyone waited on her so she could assist with check in. Finally the passengers in front of us voice their concern to mearle stating that everyone is going to miss theirs flights if she didn't assist us all right away. Mearle responded by snapping back by saying "it's not my fault that united keep us understaffed and pay us enough to care " then laughed and walked away again. At this point we realized that if we did not get immediate assistance, that we would surly miss our flight. I walked in front of the line on behalf of everyone standing in line and reiterated to Mearle in a firm tone that she insisting check in the remaining 12 passengers immediately. Mearle snapped back telling me to "worry about my own self and don't tell me how to do my own job". Feeling very stressed out And worried about missing my flight went and stood back in line again. A few moments later I over heard Mearle tell the passengers ahead of us " you're too late. You've missed your flight" these passengers became very upset with Mearle telling her that she's the reason they missed the flight and Mearle laughed and said out loud to everyone else in line.. "you all missed your flight. You all should be more responsible next time and get here earlier" and then Mearle walked away never to be see again. Many of us missed our flight which caused many of us to also miss our connecting flights. We immediately called the 800 number and filed a complaint. Then we were forced to drive three hours in traffic to LAX where we caught a later flight and barely made it to our destination in time for our work event. We swore that because of Mearle and her disgusting behavior that we will never ever fly united again (and I fly a lot for my job) and since that horrible experience with Mearle two months ago, I've flown on four trips spending over $2300 dollars and every flight has been booked through American Airlines. Do to Mearle's bad attitude, disrespectful personality, and poor representation of united we will never do business with united again. We suggest united airlines remove Mearle from Having any contact with the general public as we are sure that Mearle is loosing customers for united at a very rapid pace."
Cons: "An extra agent who was rude was having passengers check size of their bags and we had to check our carry on that we had fit above on previous 3 flights. Her statement to us was : “If you don’t like it we’ll have you checked on to another flight tomorrow morning”. She seemed to stop passengers she could intimidate, I’m not used to being treated rudely by service providers! I’m sure they wanted to reduce the passenger loading time, but rudeness is not acceptable!"
Pros: "The flight from Frankfurt to Chicago arrived late, had to collect bags and clear customs which delayed transfer, had to go from one end of the airport to the other on a train which operated very slow which delayed transfer, had to then clear TSA security checks which were very slow and again delayed transfer. Moving at the max speed we were capable of, we arrived at the opposite end of the airport too late to board and were left behind. United was not very sympathetic, although provided ticket for next morning flight. The entire experience was very disappointing following what was a decent tour of Italy."
Pros: "My flight was delayed multiple and had to get a taxi to LAX which we even missed that flight because the gate attendants waited so late to make a decision. We are still traveling as we speak and are looking to arrive in Raleigh after 3pm. Which is 8 hours later than our orginal flight."
Cons: "Long lines at the terminal that's primarily United; overbooked and needed volunteers to give up their seats which caused a 40 minute delay; uncomfortable seats and waited for 45 minutes on the tarmac because apparently they can't connect to the gate in the rain"

Cons: "Why is every connecting flight in Denver located in a different terminal and at the farthest gate? It's always a sprint to make the flight. I got singled out for a complete pat down. I was wearing light summer clothing. I'm 65 years old. It makes no sense. Those machines need recalibrsting."

Cons: "I had to pay $75 extra because I redeemed miles for my trip and it was purchased around 20 days before the trip. Ridiculous, their customer service is the worst, and their fees are ridiculous too and the service is the worst. Their CEO and upper management need to be changed, and they need to become passenger focused like Southwest."

I have bad knees and had to walk down the steps with my luggage. The escalator only start working 10 minutes before boarding. Also they overbooked the flight and there was no room for my carryon luggage. They put it underneath and when I got it back it was all torn up. Seats were cramped not enough leg room."

Cons: "My husband and I flew from Newark to Atlanta on 03/12/2017 with United. My husband is active duty military and Alicia assisted us with checking in our baggage. She was very kind and helpful. After retrieving our tickets, we went through Security and my goodness, the process at Newark is awful and TSA WAS EXTREMELY RUDE. That's besides the point. Our flight was delayed because the pilot was not there. Our departure was at 0605 and we didn't leave until 0630. Everyone boarded the plane and we were waiting for the pilot. Then the crew members were pretty rude and not friendly. I know it's an early bird flight but jeez, they can be a little nicer. One stewardess had high heel boots and literally would stomp up and down the aisle. Then she kept saying my purse was not under my seat which it clearly was. I don't know where else she'd like me to put it, maybe in the passengers seat in front of me. I would probably not fly United unless I have no other choice."
Cons: "How can an airline justify not serving a meal on a 5+ hour flight? No wonder there is not a single American Airliner in the world's best airlines, service and customers are not the priority."
Pros: "Boarding was well-organized and fairly quick. But be ready to check your bag at the gate, even if it's the right size for a carry-on..."
Cons: "The plane's seats are very uncomfortable, security in Newark took a long time, and there isn't enough space on the plane for everyone to have a carry-on bag (or at least that's how the flight and gate crew treated many of us when they forced us to check our bags at the gate, despite there being plenty of room after everyone was boarded)."
Cons: "My flight email itenerary was about 45 late So when I got to the airport my flight had already left. Makes for a sucky experience having to buy a whole other ticket at full cost."

I was lucky enough to make the flight thanks to a late flight from vegas where 7 people were connecting from but it was pretty stressful to walk up to the counter to be told the reservation you have had for 2 months was no longer reserved. This was one of the rudest staffed planes I've been on. These guys aren't over worked. I don't know why they can be so hateful. I loved united but this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. It all worked out in the end, but I still can't follow why my flight reservation was canceled without me being notified. I shouldn't find something like that out when I get to the airport with my luggage in my hand."

Pros: "I love the check in process!! You go to a kiosk and print your boarding pass and luggage tag and then just go and hand in your bag to an agent. Soooo easy. Then no ones in line forever. I was very impressed with the little extra amount of leg space that is not always on most planes. The flight wasn't very full and the crew was kind and generous with a couple of us wanting to switch our seats around. The tvs in the back of the headrest definitely kept me occupied watching New Girl. Overall, I was very comfortable and got to my destination without getting upset or angry once...which can't be said for all airlines."
Cons: "The security line for united in Newark was RIDICULOUS! It didn't take very long to get through...maybe 30-45 minutes (which I planned for) but the line snaked through two floors and wrapped through the check in area. It just looked incredibly daunting. But I realize that there isn't really much that can be done about that!"
Cons: "Extremely long delayed flight and was highly disappointed by the I was treated as a disabled valued customer. They keep changing the departure time's, I was left sitting in the wheel chair for several hours without any attendant checking on me, had nothing to eat nor drink for several hours, due to the fact that the attendants was extremely too busy or unavailable..
