Cons: "Originally, I was scheduled to take a JAL flight from NRT to DFW, but for some reason, American Airlines switched the service to their own aircraft and crew. If I would have known that beforehand, I would not have purchased my ticket through AA.com. During my original online booking, the screen said JAL service from NRT to DFW. Just about everything was bad about my American Airlines flight. I travel to and from America several times a year from Asia. Each time I travel, I swear I will never fly an American based airline for the trans-Pacific portion of my flight. My latest experience with American Airlines only reinforces that resolution. The in-cabin crew is (and I'm being nice) pathetic! They are veteran flight attendants and they look and act like they could care less about the customers on the flight. Frankly, I'm just downright disgusted with the service and personalities of the American crew's attitude. They act like they are old and tired, uninterested in quality service, and that we (the passengers) are an imposition upon their life. For example, mid-flight, I walk to the back of the airplane for something to drink, instead of assisting me they point to a "station" at the Emergency Exit door stocked with random drinks and snacks. While they are chit-chatting, looking at their smartphones and reading newspapers, books, and Kindle-type devices. That has never happened on an Asian-based airline flight. Another example, in-flight food service, the cabin crew members are waking people up to serve food and, instead of being gentle and cordial, they are rude and impatient. My 2 row mates were both Asian, and because of being awakened and the ambient noise in the aircraft, they could not hear what the flight attendant was asking. So, with a tone of impatience and disrespect, the flight attendant virtually shouted at them their choices for the meal. Whatever happened to the "customer is always right" or the "customer is king"? My renewed resolution: I will no longer fly American-based (because Delta is even worse) airlines to and from Asia. If needed, I will pay the higher fees and fares to fly anyone of a number of Asian-based carriers. It is worth it for the 24 hours it takes me to cross the Pacific. I am sick and tired of the begrudged and entitled attitude of the archaic cabin crews of American-based airlines."

Pros: "I was one of the wheelchair passengers, obviously I was struggling and asked an attendant to help me with my carry on bag to be stowed in the bin above the seat. SHe said she can't because she will be greeting the passengers!!! Anotherattendant finally helped me but it is disconcerting to be received like that by one of the crew. I did get helped by Ms Gonzales getting off the plane , I am very grateful that despite the first unpleasant attendant, there was a nice one among the lot."
Cons: "I 'm not sure if this is the venue for my complaint. When we landed in DFW there were 13 passengers on wheelchairs but there were only 3pushers.. there were 2 of us that were left and abandoned for about 40 minutes, I finally had to leave my chair and push the other lady's chair through passport control. Finally one AirServ pusher helped us with our luggage through custom and then transfer. I got to my gate 3 and 1/2 hours after we landed."

That is unacceptable and overall they just seemed annoyed that they were working on that flight and did NOT go beyond to make the 13+ hour flight comfortable."

Lastly, these delays caused the plane to arrive in Tokyo at 12:30AM (originally it was 10:30PM). All transportations options were closed. I had to take a $90 USD taxi fare into the city. JAL or AA should have given travel vouchers to everyone who needed them. BAD SERVICE, BAD COMMUNICATIONS, BAD RATING."

Pros: "I flew roundtrip to Japan on Air Canada business class. Buying a ticket late, I noticed it was only $500 or so more for business class. We did have to touchdown in Canada coming and going, but short and efficient hops. On the way back, it probably saved time because we were cleared in Canada so arriving back in Philly was like a domestic flight. Great Food and service. The trip to Japan on their new Dreamliner business class featured an amazingly designed pod - super comfortable, lay flat for sleeping, But has good layout and table space if I had wanted to work on laptop. Thumbs up!"

Im not sure when a rule was instituted that headphones can't be worn under 10000 feet, but my three children were targeted many times about their headsets... on the ear, boring kid headsets... and there were THREE adults around us wearing similar headsets that were not bothered. I am a single mother of three tired children and we were settling in for a long flight and I found the treatment very unnecessary and discriminatory. The food was pretty awful, lol. We ordered kids meals and none of my kids ate on the flight."

Our boarding passes printed in Okinawa had to be REPRINTED in Tokyo for some reason, and we narrowly avoided a huge line to wait into because staff mistakenly made us wait in the WRONG lane. Note: on the way to Okinawa 2 weeks earlier, we had similar poor experience, but we only had to wait 5 min in the wrong lane. Overall ANA staff is very nice, friendly and smiling, but seems to get overwhelmed and confused very easily, and take FOREVER to do simple tasks that their US counterparts do 3x or 4x FASTER. --> do more regular TRAINING of your staff at airport counters !"

Pros: "When we departed from Vancouver to Tokyo, we were pleasantly surprised by how courteous the airport staff and flight crew was, and by how roomy the seats were. Food wasn't outstanding, but better than other airlines we've been on for similar flights."
Cons: "Two of our three bags did not make it onto the plane, and the staff at Tokyo Narita, while apologetic, were not helpful. We had to press hard to get our bags back the next evening, instead of 2 days later. The onus was placed on us to keep receipts for replacement items that needed to be purchased in the interim, as well as to make the claim for reparation money on our return. Not even a complementary toiletry kit was offered, despite the fact that I reiterated that I had literally no clothes or toiletries at all in the one bag that arrived. Crew on our return flight was borderline rude, did not seem to take any care at all wheeling heavy carts down the aisles while people slept on a transpacific flight, banged them into my daughter many times."

That flight was also delayed, so although I was supposed to be in Boston at 7:25, I arrived at around 11:25. All that extra time was spent waiting at Narita and Toronto. -Although I was seated next to a bathroom, I was at a window seat and thus had no good access to it for the whole 12 hour flight -- most of the time the way out was blocked by tray tables. Overall space was somewhat limited."

Cons: "I booked my flight 8 months in advance and pre ordered a vegetarian meal a week before leaving for my trip. They "forgot" one of my meals (breakfast meal) on my return flight home. Hey also gave me a tuna sandwich for my snack, which means they also didn not have a vegetarian sandwich for me in between my dinner and breakfast meals. It was the first time every traveling overseas that they've made an error with my meal plan after flying on multiple airlines. My connection was a nightmare as I had to wait to go through security and customs which took over an hour and then my second flight was delayed. I will never fly through Canada again from the U.S. To another destination country."

It would have also been nice if there was an option for inflight WiFi access."

On this trip we flew a total of 4 legs (with 5 boarding opportunities due to one leg being rescheduled to the next day as a result of delays) and had "mechnical delays" on 4 of the 5 boarding opportunities. We won't be flying United again."
Cons: "After having several flights with international airlines while in Thailand for the last 2 weeks, it was quite a disappointment to spent 12 hours on this UA flight. There was a 6-8 hour period during our flight were flight attendants did not ask or even consider walking the isles and asking the passengers if they needed any water or anything else. During several flights in Thailand, the attendants were constantly catering to every passengers' needs. The difference between the flight attendants from Bangkok to Tokyo compared to Tokyo to DC was worlds apart. The Japanese attendants were as friendly as ever and took care of all the passengers needs. The flight attendants were flat out rude. There was once event on this flight that I could not believe. A child of 5-7 years old had to go to the restroom with his mother. The flight attendant was collecting trash from our meal. Even though she knew the child was behind her and needed to go to the restroom, she would not stop collecting trash, move her cart so that the boy and his mother could get to the restroom. Instead, she continued collecting trash and made the boy wait until she was done. I feel embarrassed for the foreigners who were on this flight and this was their first impression of America and Americans. The main meal that was served was a breaded chicken patty served with a slurry of questionable gravy, rice, and a roll. I received better food on multiple 1 hour flights while in Thailand. The comfort level was what you would expect from most American airlines-tight and cramped. I will never book with United for another international flight."

Cons: "The quality of the food served (in economy) on this flght was far below what is normaly expect from United (which isn't much!). If this is United's new meal service for trans-Pacific flights then Delta may be a better option for future "cattle class" flights... The flight was fully booked in all classes. The flight attendants were lazy, at best, and I seriously question their training and competence. I travel this route on a regular basis, every three months, and I've never experienced such poor quality of service from United."

Cons: "The lady at desk to board the flight made me check my carry on. I had assumed it was because the plane was full, but when I got on the plane there were more than adequate spots to stow more bags. There was a compartment across from my seat that remained open the entire flight. While I completely understand the need to check extra luggage when the plane is full, I was very upset when I saw it was not. I intentionally fly with a carry on for the convenience, and to be inconvenienced for absolutely no reason made me not want to fly with this company again for fear it could happen again in the future."

They sure had drinks and dinner even though we didn't. Also should have cancelled or delayed the flight rather than make us wait forever on the plane waiting for a new route to miss weather at our destination."

Cons: "Although I am not enough of a united member to check into your club, I am in the military and I was told by your staff that checked me into my flight, that I could use the United Club as a military member. I went to the United Club in Narita going to the states I was allowed to go into the club. On my way back in went back to the same club and was told because I'm not going to Afghanistan I wasn't allowed into the Club. I walked away shaking my head at that. I guess because I am in S. Korea for a year without my family, that isn't good enough to be in your club."

Pros: "As always, Japanese carriers are very, VERY professional and delightful to fly with. Very attractive, efficient, and friendly staff always make ANA flights awesome."
Cons: "ANA is the epitome of full service, and has among the highest costs in the industry. So why did I have pillows on my mid-day HKG-NRT flight, but no pillows on the redeye (0145 departure) HND-HKG? I was shocked. I used my shoes as a pillow. Really shocked! I don't expect pillows on an LCC or other cost-conscious carrier, but HND-HKG in the middle of the night? Really??"
Cons: "it's practically frozen TV dinner box. For a flight about 10 hours, this is making the trip extra hard."
Pros: "-- Friendly staff: the crew seems to be Asian based, and I have to say that they seem more friendly and less tired than the American based crew that I encountered during my flight from SFO to Asia. Same company, but different employee benefits?!"

Pros: "ANA code share flight. Superior service across the board. Seat comfort to food quality in the excellent category. Applaud ANA each time I fly US to Japan. I actively search for code share flights. United has work to do and I am a Premier Gold member with 400,000 current miles and 500,000 lifetime miles. United is my airlines of choice but they have significant work to do they need to work on being a better airline company and not the biggest airline company. Training, service execution and high standards wins the day."
Pros: "The 787 makes an enormous difference on a long-haul flight. The windows are awesomely large and you can still see outside when everyone is sleeping. But best of all is that the higher pressure and higher humidity in the cabin means that you arrive after a 10-12 hour flight feeling only a little tired from jetlag, rather than completely exhausted and dehydrated with a headache. I will go far out of my way and pay a premium to take a 787 if one is available. Also, DEN is a fantastic airport (by American standards), and I'd much rather connect there than anywhere else in the US."
Cons: "United is still United. One of the cabin crewmembers was serving drinks and wet his fingers with his tongue to ease selecting a single cocktail napkin. Basically, this is tantamount to slobbering on everyone's napkins and saying, "Use this to wipe your face. Never mind my saliva." A second crewmember looked like he hadn't cut or combed his hair since last summer. I would love to see ANA operate the NRT-DEN flight so I can have high-quality service. But the 787 more than makes up for United's low standards of hygiene, and I will gladly use this airplane to get to the US."
Cons: "Flight crew was extremely rude. Lots of passengers complaining. Someone is going to catch this lady on a bad day and it is going to be a major problem."
