Pros: Booked through Kayak and got a better deal. Budget/Avis staff at the Norfolk airport were great. Didn't wait long. Easy check in process. Drop off was super early, 5:30 am. Attendant was great and a short walk to the terminal.

Cons: The lady at the counter comfirmed I was dropping off the rental car at Richmond airport. When I plugged in the address to drop the car off on the return date, it was taking me to downtown Richmond. I tried to call customer service and took over an hour to get them to waive the $350 change fee despite being told i was going to RIC originally.
Pros: Ability to drop in another location from pickup.

Pros: I liked the car that I was able to get for my rental.
Cons: The wait time it took. I had to wait around an hour to finally get a car on the level of what I paid for. They more than made up for it in the end

Another great Alamo rental in Norfolk
Pros: They never fail to be the fastest, lowest priced.. And often if I can't add my discount to my rental, they simply offer to upgrade me... And I'd rather have that, as I rent full size anyways.
And I have seen the rental car return guy there at the airport.. He always does a great job. Next time I'm going to get his name, as he is way to professional and happy and thorough Before the sun comes up! Fast service, great cars.. Low price!!!

Pros: The staff was friendly and apologetic even though they had virtually no cars.
Cons: The delay in getting a car was so long and unknown that we had to cancel with Alamo and get a car from another vendor.

The rental location honored the deal through KAYAK. Often, I find that I have to speak with at least a shift manager to get a website deal honored. Comfort of the vehicle - unbelievable difference with one level upgrade to large SUV.
Cons: No issues with KAYAK - location of rental location only.
Qualify this that I picked up the car on the day before Thanksgiving:
Vehicle was not detailed!!!!!!!!!! Exterior was dirty on delivery and there was trash under two of the seats.
Training level of the people at the rental location (Alamo/Enterprise) in using their dual computer systems required 25-30 minutes to complete. That is in addition to the time that I spent in line getting to the counter. Food for thought in using this location in the future. I will bypass this Military Highway location for future rentals no matter how much cheaper they are.
I have addressed this with the folks at the location and Alamo Corporate and received sincere apologies, yet I have no assurance of changes.

Pros: Was EXCELLENT at the car pickup location.
Cons: Hours posted on website said location closed at 7 p.m., but in reality it closed at 6 p.m. This was a MAJOR problem, but they let me in at 6:12 p.m., because I had a confirmation umber, even though they were closed and the doors were locked. If they had not already been gone, we would have been without a car or a place to stay that night! They said they had changed their hours several months ago, and the info still had not been updated on the website.

Pros: The car got great gas mileage.
Cons: When I arrived to pick up the car, I was the first customer. Three other customers entered a few minutes after me. I was the last customer to get my car AND I HAD A RESERVATION! I don't and could not figure out why the clerk had to manually enter my information when it was there in the computer already. When she finally got herself together, it took forever for her to bring the car around. This whole ordeal inconvenienced me because it delayed my travel time.
Cons: No cars available when we checked in and they didn't know when the car would be available, so we were stranded in the airport while we waited at least an hour. We returned the car full an they still charged us for gas. We still have to call and get them to remove that charge.

Pros: The staff was professional and the agency opened earlier than others.
Cons: The class of car reserved was not available and the practice appears to be a downgrade and the hope the consumer is unaware. Little league for an airport location and I'd actively avoid this location provided other options were available. The upgrade I ended up paying extra for was a smoke smelling vehicle with 60k miles but not bad on gas.

Never with Dollar ever again
Pros: Quick to get the car and no one was in line
Cons: Car was very dirty. Crumbs everywhere and stained seats. I called the customer service rep to let them know I was running 2 hours later he said its 2.50 each hour your late to return which I was fine with. I get my bill this morning they charged me for a full extra day and added fees totaling to $67 more than what I was supposed to pay.
Never with Dollar again.

Pros: Quick return the attendant was very helpful and courteous.
Cons: Smell of car could have been better. Maybe windows were let down and it rained. The wait line excited 30 minutes. The intermediate or similar really meant compact.

Overcharged and unhelpful
Cons: We were overcharged for an additional driver. When I reached out to them to point it out, it took forever for them to get back to me and they wouldn't refund my money. They also couldn't even correctly identify where I rented the car. It just goes to show how sloppy they are and how little they care about their customers. They made a mistake and I'm out almost $100 for it and they won't do anything about it. It might be that their system is so bad that they can't even keep track of their mistakes to be able to fix them. But, to sum up: terrible customer service, overcharged by a lot, will never rent from them again.

Pros: Reserved a full size car, but received a SUV. Nice surprise.
Cons: The attendant at the counter when we received our vehicle seemed as though she would have preferred to be anywhere else. She was not friendly and was very short and less than accommodating with my questions.

Transfer shuttle staff was absolutely excellent
Cons: Needed and selected good sized car for 4 people w luggage.
Norfolk VA presented smaller car not meeting the class size. I asked for one meeting the class size. They re-wrote entire reservation. Kayak estimate for rental period was ballpark correct at approx. $141. But Payless layered on $100. in extras, NOT including declined insurance options, self-paid tolls, or declined prepay gas options. Net bill was about $87.00 dollars over online kayak estimate, over 60% higher. This was a disappointing experience, having done this online to get a reasonably good expectation of cost.

Cons: The policy that automatically charges for full take of gas is potential ripoff. When told I filled myself clerk did eliminate the charge

Liked the Versa
Pros: The agents at both pickup and dropoff were good.
Thought I had reserved a compact, I would rate the Versa as a sub but it ran just fine, drove it over 300 miles the first day, all good. Very predictable handling, for sure easy to park, etc.
Cons: Long wait at pickup, one customer blocked one of the two agents for an extended period. There were some tape marks on the car (probably to keep the doors closed in shipping) but it was a long walk back into the terminal and might have to wait online again
Cons: Service terrible. When you call you can't talk to no one in English. They said they were going to call me back and never did. I will never get from themy again and requested my friends to tell a friend to tell a friend not to.
