Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "A staff of 2 attendants on a crowded A 321 is minimal, not optimal"
Cons: "flight delayed by several hours"
Pros: "Our daughter's first time traveling alone. She slept most of the time and she said it was fine and comfortable enough."
Cons: "The flight was delayed by an hour and then once up in the air, passengers were told the food cart didn't make it the 6 hour flight so no food or snacks for the entire flight from Montreal to San Francisco."
Cons: "Air Canada has the worst customer service I have seen in the industry. We paid over $1,200 extra for a short flight, but given their prioritization frameworks, when we missed our flight due to reasons they were partially responsible for, they made us wait over 12 hours vs. the 2 we paid for."
Pros: "Many airlines have code share flights but it is better to buy ticket directly from the original airline as they keep on ignoring the code share flight bookings"
Cons: "Till last moment we were kept hanging if we will board or not as no seat number was allocated. I believe it was as we were from the code share airline not the real one"
Pros: "Flight pretty much on time"
Cons: "The flight was delayed."
Pros: "Plane was nice Crew was great"
Pros: "Good leg room. Staff friendly and helpful. Really great flight."
Pros: "Boarding process"
Cons: "Cabin Crew did not provide water to hydrate the passengers but, one time on the flight from Toronto to San Francisco."
Pros: "On tiime"
Cons: "Has to wait an hour and a half at the gate to park in sanfransico"
Pros: "Comfortable seats with good entertainment system"
Pros: "Everything I'll do the same next trip!!"
Cons: "No complaints!!"
Cons: "We were already running late when during take off, one of the engines malfunctioned and we had to emergency break on the runway and go back to the gate. Because it was unexpected, we had to wait even longer for a gate to become available. We then had to re go through customs and get our bags then wait in line again at the counter to schedule our flight for the next day. Thankfully we were given a hotel room and money for food. Very scary experience overall on the runway, but they tried to handle it as smoothly as possible under the unusual circumstances."
Cons: "I did not fly to Montreal and I did not catch flight to Barcelona I am fling again tonight Toronto - Barcelona direct"
Cons: "Instructions on Air Canada's website when you Google "how early should you get to the airport flying Canada to USA" say you should get there 3 hours ahead of time. For a 6:40 flight I got to the airport at 3:40, as instructed, and checkin wasn't even open. Per Air Canada's website "You should arrive at the airport three (3) hours before your flight's scheduled departure time. Pre-board security screening for departures to the U.S. opens at 3:00 AM. Exception: 20 minutes for flights departing from Toronto City Airport (YTZ)." Check in staff told me I should have gotten there 2 hours ahead. This is very conflicting. Considering I was heading to a 10 hour trade show, believe me that hour of sleep I lost between 2:30 when I had to get up for this flight and 3:30 when I could have gotten up sure was missed. Correct and consistent instructions to passengers go a long way."
Pros: "Great crew and was comfortable"
Cons: "Food was expensive"
Pros: "I was able to change my seat from a middle to a window. I also had an open seat next to me so I was not squeezed in. The person at the desk in Toronto was very pleasant and helpful."
Pros: "The plane was comfortable, both flights each way were on time and the crew was very friendly and accommodating."
Cons: "The 6 1/2 hour flight from Montréal CANADA to San Francisco, CA USA, is considered a "shared border flight," which means 1) you pay $25 for your first checked bag, $35 for the next, and $100 for subsequent bags. The food is horrible and the type you'd expect on a puddle jumper from NY to Boston. Clearly Air Canada executives are aware that Canada and the US are separate countries. This is just an attempt to gouge the consumer. Unfortunately Air Canada is the only Airline I can fly out of Montreal so I'm stuck with them. : ("
Pros: "The crew on board were good."
Cons: "I wasn't able to check in online or through the kiosk to my flight and then had to wait in a 2 hour line to check in at the counter. After I get to the counter the ground staff grumbles and says I'm just going to make it to my flight!!"
Cons: "The flight was delayed several times without any explanation or update from Air Canada at all. Everyone was at the gate ready to board at 6:50. The screen didn't indicate that it was going to be delayed. There was no one from the crew or AC at all at the gate until 8:30. No announcement, whatsoever. Then when we finally arrived at SFO, the plane was circling above SFO in a storm for another one hour and fifteen minutes..."
Pros: "Super nice crew!"
Cons: "Inaudible boarding"
Pros: "The food I purchased was good (salad, cashews, and a glass of wine)...water was offered several times during the flight"
Cons: "Cabin was hot, the passenger air controls did nothing to cool us, the staff kept the cabin lights on full, so it was difficult to nap or watch the movies/tv....the sound quality of the movie/tv is awful. My travel companion became ill during the flight (nausea, minor seizure, dizziness, hot, etc...), she did not consume any alcohol...she is 57, not old by any means ."sick bags" were not in the seat pocket, the crew barely got her one in time.....they did have her sit in the back of the plane, where it was cooler. It might have been a good idea to give her oxygen...upon landing, we were told that there would be a wheelchair at the gate (never appeared), and while we were waiting for it, the crew ignored us, only concerning themselves with the location of the nearest Starbucks in the terminal, then left us with a staff member who had no idea about the wheelchair, didn't give us any sort of ice pack. ....we finally just gave up and slowly and carefully walked to baggage claim"
Pros: "Flight was not full and reservstions mde some time ago but we were seated several rows apart. inexcusable!! Several others were also seated apart so we talked among us and people moved around so that family and couples were together, no thanks to airline. Service and food were second class at best."
Pros: "Seats were much more comfortably shaped than on my Air Can flight from Toronto to BRU. More legroom! Food for BRU to Montreal was decent."
Cons: "No snacks for Montreal to SF. Pretty brutal for people who didn't buy a dinner in the terminal. If you're only going to sell meals on the Montreal-SF flight, make them a little less expensive. Otherwise, people will just eat nothing and dislike their Air Can experience..."
Cons: "There was little seating space. I was unable to fully recline back because the person sitting behind me was too tall. Also had broken/uneven food tray."
Cons: "On the way back from Quebec City to Montreal we were asked to check our carry-ons as luggage, because "there is no room' on the plane. It was an empty flight. ALL overhead compartments were empty. Both flights - Quebec to Montreal and Montreal San Francisco were late. As the result, we have to spend 1.5 hours in the baggage claim area, because "there are no baggage agents in SFO available". THAT WAS THE WHOLE REASON WE ONLY HAD CARRY-ONS! By far, one of the worst flight experience in the last 10 year."
Pros: "Size of plane allowing for aisle seating."
Cons: "Delay with boarding for about hour without a good explanation. All monitors in airport shows plane on time when it actually was not. Boarding process also took a bit of time perhaps due to many elderly on the flight. Seating was also confusing as the middle seats did not correspond with aisle seating. This caused delays as passengers had to figure out where they were sitting. Checked in luggage at gate since flight was full and we were asked to volunteer to check-in luggage. At baggage claim, bag delay to retrieve luggage after already hour delay in departure. Bags was not labeled or categorized correctly causing an extra half hour delay to claim bags."
Cons: "Air Canada shares a trait with many other incompetent organizers: everything is fine if nothing goes wrong, but there are no contingency plans in place in case something goes wrong. So, things get more and more delayed. Can't you predict roughly when the plane is going to land (once it is in the air!) and arrange for some gate to be open, so that we don't have to sit on the ground for 45 minutes once it has landed, for example? People who know how to organize are ordinarily capable of doing that. Furthermore, the lack of transparency is really frustrating: we just sit on the tarmac with no indication of how long we're going to be there, and the estimates of the delays are completely wrong when we're given them."
Cons: "The fight had intercom problems and that delayed us for 5+ hours with no decision as to the resolution. We finally got home at 4 AM ...."
Pros: "Flight attendant's were friendly amid the circumstances."
Cons: "Our first flight was cancelled 15 minutes before scheduled take-off. upon being bumped to another flight two hours later, that flight was delayed two hours after an issue during take-off. We remained on the plane while mechanic/engineering staff rectified the problem. We booked a flight to save time on driving. We would have arrived earlier had we drove. I understand things happen, but the airline eneds to take responsibility and show some good customer service. Aside from the pilot, no apology given, no reimbursement offered. Disappinting. Air Canada is now a last-resort option for a frequent flyer like myself."
Cons: "Moved to another flight despite the fact we were on time to make the flight through security."
Pros: "The flight number was changed, but the new flight got in 45 mins earlier which is always a good thing. Every seat had a screen which kept me entertained."
Cons: "Flights delayed both there and back, with no advance warning and no reason given. Online & airport signage said flight "on time" the whole time. Asked Air Canada Customer Service desk in Toronto to change signage to accurate time, they were SUPER snooty and treated me like an idiot. Signage did not change, my husband came to airport "on time" to pick me up and then had to sit there 1-1/2 hours. They are inconsiderate jerks."
Pros: "Was really tired as just arrived from Tokyo, but it went well. Folks nice."
Cons: "Airport signage and boarding was a bit confusing, as our announcements overlapped with the gate next door and couldn't tell difference easily."
Pros: "We were safe."
Cons: "Big problems with frequent flyer miles. After a number of hours into the effort I am told my miles won't count. For the average airline it takes about 30 seconds to join the frequent flyer club. Air Canada now is my last choice for long flights. Ok maybe before Frontier."
Pros: "All crews were nice and friendly."
Cons: "Would have been great if I had a Entertainment (movies, TV etc) screen on my seat for my Vancouver - KIX flight."
Pros: "once i got through checking in everything was ok"
Cons: "if i knew the name of the man i talked to at checkin i would make a complaint specifically about him. i lost my passport a few days before coming home and went to the united states consulate where they told me to bring a printed copy of my passport and the united states boarding patrol would let me back into the united states. the man at the checkin didn't want to let me through to even speak to the united states border patrol and told me the consulate was wrong. i almost missed my flight because of his stubborn arrogance. once past him i was able to explain what happened and show what identification I had and everyone was very nice to me."
Pros: "Boarding is the best!"
Cons: "I do understand mechanical issues occur, but your communication of these issues was awful! My god, you cannot tell if your electronics are working before you board people. One thing I can say for America, they do not mess around.....they fix problems....your team sucked leaving Toronto Barcelona two weeks ago and then you suck leaving Toronto to SFO. Please understand, folks have flight connections and the number one thing then need from you, instead of water is information on whether their flight will be waiting for them!!!"
Pros: "Bags were checked all the way through, Canada to US and I didn't have to recheck them before connection into US."
Cons: "That they make you take your headphones off during takeoff and landing - ear buds only makes no sense."
Cons: "We didn't like having to pay for carry on luggage. When we left SFO and flew to Montreal, if your bag was 21 inches, not 20 they checked it for free. Traveling back to SFO the counter person made us pay to check a bag, even though we knew if we went to the gate, they would take it. This was not good or consistent. We will not fly on Air Canada"
Pros: "the boarding process was smooth and organized."
Cons: "food should be part of the ticket and not extra payment. In a 5 to 6 hours of flight there should be at least some snacks offered."
Pros: "I enjoyed the pleasant crew and the constant water being given."
Cons: "The crew was very pleasant and helpful. However it was unexpected that no food would be provided on a 5 hour flight. If not a small meal then a snack was expected. The crew did provide water consistently which was very nice. My personal entertainment screen was very unresponsive and then the head phone jack wasn't working for sound, I had to hold it at a certain angle to hear bits of sound. Since the head phone jack was located at my thigh it was very uncomfortable and when I shifted I broke my headphones :("
Cons: "Air cananda made me go crazy... They didn't prepared anything after I missed my flight. Because of immigration. They just said to me that was not their fault. But you know, I arrived at air port 5am. My flight time was 8am. I asked aircanada clerks to get into gate quckily. But they had me wait for a long time, and they said everybody was waiting, so that's not problem. But when I got into gate at 8:45, My plane already had gone. And I went to Air canada service center, I had argued for 5hours... because they just prepared my flight from Toronto to San Francisco. They didn't care about Connected air plane was Asiana. So I Had to call three company.. Asiana, Kayak, air canada... that was horrible time. Air canada didn't want to have responsibility about missing air plane. That's why I had to contact with Asiana...the first time Asiana didn't want to prepare air plane for free... I had to try to explain my situation and problem three times.... Finally I got a ticket for free from Asiana. I could departure at 9pm from Toronto. I stayed in Pearson air port for 15hours... because of Air canada's GOOD!! customer service v^^v..... I will never use Air canada !!"
Cons: "Missed our flight in dublin and the crew wouldn't let us board even though we were there with sufficient time."
Cons: "That i showed up in maple time and the plane was oversold, then they put me on another flight which made my pick up at another airport costly!"
Cons: "1. I ordered kosher meal, and we haven't because it finished. 2. The flight was full I couldn't findo a sit with my kids. I sit separately."
Pros: "The crew are all very polite and easy going. They displayed a certain candor that is lost in todays customer service. I've always enjoyed flying United and will continue to do so."
Cons: "Several of the passengers had connecting flights. On plane that size, it takes time to get off the plane. It would be nice if the crew would allow those with connecting flights to disembark first. An easy fix in my mind, though I know I don't see the whole picture."
