Pros: "I appreciated that SOME of the crew tried to help us with our defective monitors by resetting them, but it didn’t work. The landing was also incredibly smooth. Top marks to the pilot."
Cons: "Our monitors and remotes did not work at all, for the entire flight. What’s worse, is the monitors weren’t just black... they were stuck on a bright white screen which were constantly in our face and prevented us from sleeping. Towards the end of the flight, out of desperation for sleep, I placed my blanket over the three defective monitors so the two other people in my row and I could try and sleep, but I was yelled at by a stewardess because she considered it a fire hazard! She was completely unsympathetic. Having a blinding white light in your face rather than an entertainment system, on a 14 hour flight, was torturous. My girlfriend and I were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in this flight. The food was also very underwhelming and akin to bad hospital food. But at least that was bearable."

Staff was not that concerned or responsive as on other flights."

Cons: "Air India needs to provide proper training to the staff. Starting from boarding plane, no hi/hello- staff is like “show your passport” and then “GO”. I notice inside plane, there was no one guiding passengers with their carryons. Pretty air hostess with heavy makeup was smiling at older couple struggling with their carryon luggage, I helped few of them around me. Plane is really in bad condition - seats are not comfortable, TV is difficult to figure out because it’s barely work, audio jacks are broken. Do not press flight attendant Call button because no one will come to you - I needed some drinking water and press the button, no one showed up for 15 mins finally I was able to stop one who was passing by me and asked her for water, she said “Sorry we don’t have any small water bottle” and she kept on walking. I was like WHAT :)), After 5 mins other attendant gave me a 2 liter bottle and a cup. Later I found by one flight attendant that they don’t give pen to fill out immigration form. Passengers must bring their own pen and keep handy to fill forms. And finally Air India needs to provide some Tie to male flight attendant, One on them was wearing very rundown tie."

Three of us Travelled together and in flight entertainment was broke for all three monitors. One of the food trays was broken and it was circus trying to eat all the stuff in our lap. Flight crew didn't bother to help and neither did they give us any extra time to finish our meals."

Cons: "My wife and I along with our 2 yr old son were flying AI 102 from JFK to DEL on 12th Dec 2017. Boarding happened on time at 1 pm EST and that was the last sane thing to have happened. First, there was some problem and flight got delayed, AI staff would not tell us what was going on and kept buying time with one excuse or the other. Soon this stretched to over 3 hours of sitting inside the plane while the plane did not move an inch from the gate. Finally they announced there was some technical problem that required a part replacement and as per the DGCA regulations, passengers would need to deplane. After deplaning, we were given a $10 meal voucher and told to stay close by the AI gate as the replacement part was already on the way and the plan would take off around 6 PM. As time passed, passenger's impatience started growing as AI staff just wouldn't share any concrete information. Suddenly around 6 pm they announced that the replacement part had arrived and engineers were working to fix it and that boarding would now start soon, all this while insisting that passengers stay close to the AI gate as boarding could happen any time. Around 7 PM they started the boarding, little did we know that this was merely an exercise in deception that was never meant to get us on the plane, but rather just meant to herd us to a much smaller hall downstairs with poor air conditioning where people along with their hungry starving babies and crying children could suffocate further. To make matters worse, there was no explanation provided by the AI staff still about what was going on, downstairs staff would say engineers are still working and the staff upstairs that was managing the boarding said they were under instructions from downstairs passengers to board the passengers. After about 45 mins of waiting, passengers finally lost their patience. When several Mom's yelled at the AI staff to provide clear cut information, the staff relented and sent the passengers back upstairs where there was better air conditioning and people could still move around. We were still asked to hang out close to the AI gate lest we miss the boarding that could happen any moment - this was still 8 PM. After another hour of wait, around 9 PM finally we got hold of the AI station manager who informed us that the flight had been cancelled. Upon being asked the next steps, he had no answer and asked us to get back to the departure ticketing terminals where they would provide further information. Long story short, the next 2 hours were AI's shoddiness at it's best. Utter confusion, misinformation from the AI staffers, unruly scenes at JFK that eventually required police to be called in was the order of the day. We finally got into an AI arranged hotel at 1 in the night - no dinner - with the promise of being flown out the next day at 12:30 pm. It's another matter that the flight next day could depart only at 3:30 PM, but we were thankful that at least it did. #NeverFlyingAirIndia"

But once we went to take our boarding passes, we were surprised that customer care representative put different seats. I had repeatedly asked the guy who was charging for extra seat and he confirmed 17D & 17E, but it was 17 & 27. Whole purpose of paying more was defeated."

Cons: "The plane was old and dated, with duct tape visibly used everywhere. There was a moldy smell that hits you as soon you cross the business class into economy. The flight was delayed because two passengers where assigned the same seat on the flight, which took a lengthy time to resolve. No beverages or snacks were offered until 4 hrs into the flight and when it came to dinner, they ran out of food (veg option). They pieced together a meal for me (and many others), which basically was bread and whatever leftovers they had un-used from business class meals. The air hostesses where rarely seen unless it was for lunch/dinner service, and had a poor attitude. I asked for some water and they made it seem like it was an out of the world request. Both takeoff and landing where harsh. At take off, it was almost like a vertical take off and at landing, we came in too fast and once on the ground the pilot slammed on the breaks. If I had more time to book, I would of gone with another airline... will never be flying with Air India again."

Pros: "My seat back was broken and didn't recline for a 14 hr overnight flight. The plane was seriously oversold-- people were sitting in the flight attendants' folding "jump" seats. The entertainment system for half the plane was frozen (my seat included. And though the crew offered a complaint card, it was never brought to our seat. We'll never fly Air India again."
