Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "It's a direct flight."
Cons: "Everything - the plane was last updated in 1989 (you can still see where the cathode ray screens were bolted to the central overhead bins), the entertainment is laughable, several didn't work - passengers were given choice of putting up with that or getting off flight. A flight to endure, not enjoy"
Pros: "Comfortable seat - great service"
Cons: "Flight was more than 2 hours late - same as the flight from Columbus to Toronto when we left- the ground crew did not know or care where the plane (a replacement craft) was coming from or when it arrived and let it sit on the ramp for about 15 minutes before marshaling it in and the seats we got after waiting all that time were excessively worn and felt like we were sitting in bowls. The logistics either of Air Canada or at the Toronto airport for domestic flights stinks. I will try to avoid both in future."
Pros: "Friendly staff, comfortable seats, good, easy to use entertainment. Everything you would want on a flight. I have never flown air canada before, but definitely will again!!"
Pros: "Professionalism Pilot kept us informed"
Cons: "No free snack (like peanuts) was offered. It would be nice to be able to nibble on on a snack along with the one free drink."
Pros: "Where do i start? It’s a short flight to be sure but air canada planes never feel like many Other airlines’ mini planes or puddle jumpers. they seem new, spacious, seat back Entertainemnt, just great. Also, there is no scrimping on Service. How many Delta or united or American flights have i taken on this route only to be told “coffee or water” and sometimes no coffee “the flight is too short”. Nonsense! Granted I was in business, but I had a full hot breakfast served and a full array of beverages offered. It AC can do it, everyone can. The flight attendant was lovely."
Cons: "The flight was too short :)"
Cons: "I ordered vegetarian food, but not shown on list ."
Pros: "nice food great crew"
Cons: "the washrooms need more cleaning during this long flight messy boarding"
Cons: "The crew was very friendly and efficient and the flight boarded, departed, and arrived on time."
Pros: "Flew Business Class from LAX to YYZ and the flight attendant was great."
Cons: "Flew on an A320-200 and the cabin is a bit dated compared to its US competitors. The inflight entertainment system is dated and needs an upgrade and the food offered was mediocre."
Pros: "My group of five arrived to the airport late (one hour before the flight took off), but the crew worked together to quickly process all of us and get us through to ensure that we didn't miss our flight. We really appreciated it!"
Cons: "2 hour delay, lack of connecting ticket made me have to go through security all over again, the "entertainment" is an app for your smartphone/tablet."
Cons: "I was on 4 Air Canada planes none of them were clean; the seats are not cleaned after use. The staff are pretty rude. The food was terrible."
Pros: "The pilot seemed good and the staff on the plane were nice overall"
Cons: "Customer service from the group staff that checked us in was horrendous... (Lisa from Chicago ). We were not aware one of us needed eTA to fly through Canada and the agent was so belittling, rude and plane wrong with her information, that if it had not for our smarts, we might have not made it to our destination. I do not spend so much money to fly with an airline, whose agents treat it me like this! She really should be fired for her terrible manners and for giving customers wrong information..the second supervisor we talked to helped us, but the impression we got from the agent was so terrible, that it was hard to feel any good...no food on a flight during lunch hour, seems unfitting."
Pros: "Treated well and basically enjoyable flight, which is saying something on an eleven hour flight."
Cons: "On the return flight we arrived an hour late, and though we were told that they were holding our connecting flight, it left on time, five minutes before we got to the gate."
Pros: "Staff were good, probably doing the best they could with what they had to work with."
Cons: "I'm 6'4" and a Air Canada Rouge 737 isn't built for guys/girls like me. Give us a bit more legroom!"
Pros: "We didnt crash"
Cons: "We didn't crash"
Pros: "Good service hassle free"
Cons: "DELAYED!!!!!!!!!!!"
Cons: "There were too many things to mention, but I must say the customer service is not a strong point neither is a customer first mindset. The airlines apparent made several changes between my trip and I was threaten with additional bag fees when my ticket was very clear for two carry-ons and to checked bags, which also confirmed when I confirmed my seat request. After I was required to check my bags, I realized my earbuds were in the bag and the flight attendant did not give me a pair and actually told me I could purchase a pair...REALLY!I just did a 15 hour flight from Dubai, you were delayed by 2 hours on my last connecting flight and you can't comp a pair of .25 cent earbuds."
Pros: "My company on the plane was lovely: an older Peruvian woman sharing her experiences in the country."
Cons: "The plane took off 40 minutes late because we were waiting on folks: Can this be a normal standard?! The food was difficult to stomach. But worst of all, the attendants were not kind or particularly helpful. They seemed hurried. At one point when offering drinks down the aisles, the 2 attendants even commented that they were going to beat the other cart down the aisle this time. Furthermore, there was a blind man near us across the aisle. I couldn't see much of what was going on, but the woman next to me seemed rather distraught that so little help was offered to him. When food was served, he couldn't find his cutlery and ate with his hands. When he needed to use the bathroom, he pressed the button for assistance but no one came. Others stepped in to help. When asked if someone would help the man at the gate, an attendant rather condescendingly answered that of course, every handicapped guest will be assisted through the airport. The flight primarily consisted of Peruvians. I can only hope this poor service was a reflection of all of Air Canada, and not what the people of Peru receive regularly. It was as if the attendants were trying to discipline. There were no niceties. Perhaps the language barrier was too much."
Cons: "The flight was delayed about an hour and a half, only after some time at the gate they explained it on the mic.I had a connection flight, and before landing they mentioned there will be agents helping those with upcoming connections to catch them up due to the delay, but those people just pointed me in the general direction of the gates. I had to ran all over the airport, confused after the terrible long flight, and since it was my first time there. I made it at the last second, they changed my seat without my permission and didn't have enough room for my bag so I had to check it. The general attitude of the crew was reluctant at best. The food was mediocre, like what you would have gotten in a flight 10 years ago, and they gave beef to people who asked for chicken. I wanted to be more cool about it, but it was a terrible flight in every Aspect, and I never even got an apology or a follow up."
Pros: "I got home safely...thanks"
Cons: "The announcement to limit on board luggage is threatening. I thought if there was not enough space for my on board belongings, it might be taken off and put as checked luggage, even though I met the on board requirements. There should be overhead space assigned to each seat...not first come first served..... that way people wound not take advantage of carry on allowances."
Pros: "Staff was really friendly, the flight attendant was even wearing a little witch hat for Halloween, which I really liked. Due to an underbooked flight, we had free choice of seat, because I originally was booked on an aisle seat, I could change to a window seat, that was nice. Since it was a small machine from Toronto to Minneapolis (a little more than 1,5h flight), there was no entertainment system, besides the nice view out of the window. And who likes to start a movie during such a short flight, to not be able to finish it? They also ask you to hand in your carry-on before you enter the plane, because there is not enough space for it inside, which I liked, no wiggeling along the aisle with a little trolley, I just fetched it outside the plane after we landed."
Cons: "Unfortunately, Air Canada didn't serve gluten-free snacks on any of my flights yet (I had good gluten free food though). This is not meant as a negative review, because as an allergic you're usually prepared. It's more a suggestion for gluten-free snacks, peanuts or m&m's work as well as most gummy bears or chocolates :)"
Pros: "Normal quick flt."
Cons: "Nothing really, pretty standard."
Cons: "After crossing in a 787 from Zurich this small older jet to Austin looked and felt like 15 years ago. Bathroom was bad for a 6'2" guy."
Cons: "Flight was delayed for 1 & a half hours. no explanation. Was an hour flight to Columbus but we had to wait 45 minutes for our checked baggage because Air Canada didn't have enough people on staff. Our wait for baggage was almost as long as our flight. Everyone was really mad not just us."
Pros: "Good boarding procedure"
Pros: "Good legroom in economy"
Cons: "Flight kept getting delayed without announcements or explanation. Seating is real tight with not enough seats in the commuter area"
Cons: "No entertainment for such long flight."
Pros: "it is on time no hassle every things is smooth"
Pros: "The flight was good and the attendants on it were nice. Wasn't too uncomfortable and in flight entertainment was pretty decent."
Cons: "We were delayed over an hour which in itself is okay as I understand flights get delayed and these things happen but the way in which the staff controlled the situation was horrible. They made multiple announcements making it sound like certain groups should go to the counter to be boarded (children, people needing assistance etc..) yet when these groups of people showed up at the counter the staff acted irritable saying they would need to wait their turn and that they havent even started boarding yet. This led to massive confusion and a huge pile up of people at the counter."
Pros: "with more than two hours delay and they changed the gates with little or no notice."
Cons: "Always delayed."
Pros: "Leg room adequite."
Cons: "Only beverages served, there wasn't the usual snack."
Pros: "Quality of food was pretty mediocre. Of course I am comparing this with airlines like KLM, Emirates or Cathay Pacific."
Cons: "Upon arrival at Madrid we found our suitcase in the checked luggage was badly damaged at two places. Who do we request for damages?"
Cons: "Flight attendants and customer service were horrible"
Cons: "At the rome airport, Air Canada closed their bag drops area 1 hour and 20 mins before the flight. We missed our flight because of this. No one in that airport works for Air Canada, I had to call customer service in the US and wait 35 mins before somebody pick up the phone. Air canada hire a local italian company at the airport to do the check in, but they do not care and close the counter way earlier. We were 7 people in the same situation."
Cons: "2.5 hour delay and this seems fairly standard with this airline. Going to Toronto we had two long delays and one cancelled flight."
Cons: "Boarding area was a nightmare - hot , miles and miles of walking to get there, and crowded. The system for check-in is the stupidest i have ever seen - we were asked to scan passports and boarding passes then stand in a crowded area to wait for names to come up on an electronic board that could only be read from the front of the room. Who thought of that????"
Pros: "Flight crew was great."
Cons: "Delays--nearly an hour with both flights. AC was not working well on CMH-Toronto leg. We were told one unit was out."
Pros: "The cabin crew provided drinks throughout the 5.5 hours flight."
Cons: "The safety demo was done manually by a staff at the front row that most people from rows 15 onward probably could not hear."
Pros: "Love the free coffee dispenser in the aiport! Staff very friendly and helpful."
Cons: "Left a few min late"
Cons: "Flight took off over 3 hours late. Worst part was online check in on United website wouldn't work 24 hours before the flight. So when we got to the airport they didn't confirm we could actually get on the flight because it was oversold until 7:30pm, 2.5 hours after our scheduled flight. We arrived to a wedding 15 mins before the place closed."
Pros: "Everyone was very nice"
Cons: "When I went to Check in there was alot of problems with the process on line By the time I was able to enter my information the session had timed out. It was so frustrating because I had to wait 51 minutes for an Air Canada representative to confirm I had checked in eventhough I didn't have my boarding pass on my I5 phone. I really like your planes and service providers, but your website is awful."
Pros: "The aircraft was clean, flight on time, service and staff were very professional and courteous."
Cons: "Boarding should be from the rear of the aircraft to reduce congestion in the aisles. Need more vegetarian food options."
Pros: "Good attention by the crew. Cleaner than airlines rom the US in recent years. Good entertainment assortment."
Cons: "The buttons on the screen in economy seats for controlling the entertainment are less effective. too small, and sometimes a bit off. Tying to control during a light chop takes quite a bit of effort (A330)"
Cons: "Baggage claim at final destination was a complete mess. I went straight to the baggage claim area after our flight and never saw any baggage come out at the designated carousel. Checked with the baggage office and they apparently don't work with Air Canada and sent me to their check in desk where no one was available. Customer service was only able to fill out a form listing me as missing my baggage and tell me to head home. Had to return to pick up my luggage the next day, but the Air Canada manager couldn't even tell me if the baggage would have gone to the baggage claim carousel or to the check in desk, because it seems they have no established protocol. With it being such a small flight (only around 10-15 of us total on the plane), it seems like a brief announcement of where our luggage would be could have saved people headaches. Being small seems to be an issue where the airline itself doesn't have any real established protocols or a substantial presence in the Columbus airport at least. So overall, not impressed with the management when checking in or out in the actual airport."
