Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Cons: "Because the first flight was delayed, we had to run like mad men to our connecting flight or else we wouldve missed it."
Pros: "Not a full flight, seat next to me was empty which was good for a 12 hour."
Cons: "Better selection of movies, real window shades instead of the transparent ones."
Cons: "Better food."
Pros: "Air China did an excelent job to get me to my destination."
Cons: "Kayak.com did not notify me my flight was cancelled. By my own dumb luck I showed up early enough for Air China to put me on a plane that was boarding. Come on kayak. You failed to provide details that could have ruined my trip. Get it together."
Pros: "seat so so"
Pros: "Great crew"
Cons: "6 hours late"
Pros: "The plane from Guangzhou to Beijing was newer and very well designed business class seats, the convenient layout was exceptional. I think the meal ok but the staff was exceptionally friendly helpful and took good care of me. Also this aircraft had a large movie assortment, larger than usual."
Cons: "I think the meals are the only area lacking, again not easy to have pre made meals that are as good reheated."
Pros: "Crew was friendly and accommodating even though I was non-Chinese"
Pros: "Seat was comfortable, plenty of space for luggage, crew was good"
Cons: "Cold sandwich was so so, not big selection of drinks"
Cons: "I'm very gtateful"
Cons: "There’s no way to request vegan meals via the site kayak referred us to (no air China). 14 hours on a plane with no food was brutal. Not a fan of the 787s - they somehow have even less room than their predecessors and when the person in front of you puts their seat back you have about 12” of space."
Pros: "Lovely crew"
Cons: "Check-in was frustrating with split lines, late openings. Could not get boarding pass on kiosk or on website. Kayak is not user-friendly and does not seem to support online check-in. Would not recommend using it to others. Will not use it again."
Cons: "Everything is fine."
Pros: "Love the service from the air hostess"
Cons: "Seating is a little tight, limited movie selections"
Cons: "Meals need to be improved"
Cons: "The flight had 02:30 delay due to a technical problem, when we Arrive the luggage was broken."
Pros: "Transit time"
Cons: "Food, entertainment"
Pros: "Overall a very good job for a low budget flight. The boarding and unboarding process was efficient. The crew was extremely pleasant and helpful, they were constantly monitoring and cleaning the restrooms."
Cons: "The entertainment choices were limited. This was my return flight and since less than half the movie choices (19 total to choose from) were in English (the rest in Chinese with subtitles too small to read on that tiny screen) by half way thru the flight there wasn't anything left to watch:(. The food was very bland, the "shrimp w/noodles" turned out be 6 tiny shrimp with elbow macaroni noodles with absolutely no taste at all (very disappointing). Although there was drinks left in the galley between meals there wasn't any snacks, unlike my first flight from JFK to Beijing, were there were some cookies and fruit also available. Finally, there was an incident with about 5hrs left in the flight were drinks were being served. I had just gotten a glass of orange juice set down on my food tray. No sooner the women sitting in front of me stood up and spilled the entire glass of orange juice in my lap. I call on of the flight attendants for assistance, she was eager to help, unfortunately there wasn't any towels or paper towels or absorbent anything available for her to work with. Fortunately I did have 5hrs to dry!"
Pros: "The flight waited which I'm sure is a complaint by others. This is due to the very inefficient transfer process in Beijing."
Cons: "Zero entertainment. I know it's only a 4-5 hour flight but still."
Pros: "The seats had more room so it was easy to get comfortable and sleep."
Cons: "Didn't like that there was no one there to answer any questions. The ladies there brushed off anyone who showed up by tossing a paper with a new departure time at them. The didn't even attempt to understand other questions. Plus the flight was delayed an hour."
Pros: "Service was nice and quick. Plane wasn’t too crowded."
Cons: "It was abnormally cold on the plane, which made relaxing difficult."
Pros: "They have taken care of me like no other airlines do this days, always with a smile, lots of movies to watch from all over the world"
Pros: "They took good care of me even when I got to drunk"
Cons: "The flight was way too long but there's nothing they could do about that lol"
Cons: "Same as above. Need wifi. I'll look for a plane with wifi next time"
Cons: "they lost our baggage"
Pros: "I'm 6'2" and had good leg room in coach. The food was decent and the boarding process went pretty smoothly. Each seat had a power outlet below it (kinda out of sight). Overall my flight was pretty good."
Cons: "The entrainment system was a little bit older semi touch screen (no usb charger). Air china was similar to China Eastern as they demanded all cell phones stay off for the duration of the flight. No WIFi was available for purchase."
Cons: "The flight was delayed so late that I missed my international connecting flight home despite leaving a four hour gap. The inflight service was pathetic. The food was atrocious, the media system was broken, there was not wifi, and they did not allow the use of cellphones the entire duration of the flight even in airplane mode. The ground staff was completely unhelpful. I was barely able to secure an alternative flight home after about a half hour of negotiating. I don't think I could have got the flight at all had I not spoke Chinese. None of the other foreign nationals were able to get a new flight. The flight they put on back home had to stop in Hawaii and cost me a good extra 8 hours. I got home 12 hours later than I had anticipated. I am filing for compensation. What a joke. Air China shouldn't even both with international flights if all their domestic flights are delayed and they are barely able to help customers speaking their native language (to say nothing of English)."
Pros: "The flight was crazy cheap. The boarding was fast a simple enough, and the food was pretty good for airplane food. Overall I would probably pay this price to fly this airline again, but if I had to pay even 30 or 40 dollars more I would not."
Cons: "The Crew was crazy bad. They had plenty good enough English they just didn't give a rip if we needed something. My son spilled his yogurt on his lap so I asked for paper to get it cleaned up. The lady just huffed and walked away, I thought to get napkins, but nope, she never came back. This was one of several things that were just lazy or rude on the flight. Also, While I get that this is Air China, so most of the entertainment would be Chinese, the last time I flew Korean Air, and China Southern on international flights they had a pretty good international entertainment selection. Not so on Air China! there were about 4 English choices, and nothing else. Again, I would fly this again at this price (600 for round trip from CGO to DEN) but for even 30-40 dollars more, I would find something else."
Pros: "Airplane was good"
Cons: "Food was not good at all and quality was poor No snacks provided in between meals. Sitting in the plane at tarmac without any reason. No reason to board if crew knew about this in advance. The crew incharge of us did not have proper training to deal with family with small children."
Cons: "Late take off and need vegetarian dishes"
Cons: "Gate crew did not provide any information about delayed departure times. We were told the plane would depart at 20:10 and ended up departing at 22:35. This was already several hours behind the originally scheduled departure time of 15:25."
Pros: "Business class was nice. I only had it for one leg of about 4 legs. Food was good. Service was good. This is only if you're in business."
Cons: "Economy seats are really small. My shoulders hit the head rest. I'm not that tall, but I'm not short either. I think the seat in front of me was only about 12 inches from my face. The 6 hour ride didn't have individual monitors. Why? No mobile products can be used- not even an iPod. I can understand an hour flight- but 4+ hours? The flight from PEK to SGN was super late, and no one would give an explanation. On the long leg, the movie selection was poor. Mainly Chinese movies. Only a couple new English movies, and some older ones."
Cons: "Delay with fake reasons"
Cons: "The video selections had limited appeal to westerners."
Cons: "Airline didn't make an effort to hold the connecting flight. Also tried to book passengers two to a room for the 24 hour delay. Delay did not come through on vayama/kayak systems so when I called vayama they couldn't help because they thought the flight had departed on time."
Pros: "The boarding was quick and efficient."
Cons: "I travel a lot and have learned not expect much from airline food, but this one got my attention in a bad way. I also felt like I was inconveniencing the staff every time I asked for some water. I know thats not very tangible, it was just a feeling. Lastly the entertainment sucked. They had a very limited selection, old movies, and even some American movies that weren't available in English."
Pros: "I liked making it out of there alive."
Cons: "Cancelled flight without notice. 24 hour postponement; marginally passable accommodations. No compensation / upgrade / consideration / anything. Horrid staff, passengers, food, plane, etc. 16 hour layover in the frozen prison camp called the Beijing airport. Avoid like the plague. Fly literally anything else."
Pros: "Food was good."
Cons: "My seat 46D was broke and it took several conversations with crew members during 6 hours before they finally moved me to an other seat."
Pros: "Air China was a very pleasant experience since the price of the ticket was only $622. The plane was good, service was good, food was average and service was fine. The flight was basically easy and I would not hesitate to fly Air China."
Cons: "The food was just average"
Pros: "The crew was amazing and everyone was very nice. Excellent airline!"
Cons: "Their signage at Beijing was hard to follow. We were flying to Korea and it's an international flight but everyone directed us to their domestic side and eventually couldn't check us in because we needed to goto their international counter. It's also so massive so I probably missed the sign but once we got to the right place everyone was helpful again. Would fly them again."
Pros: "Great selection of movies, friendly flight crew."
Cons: "Food was ok."
Pros: "I like flight captain service. They fly smoothly. Landed smoothly. I love that part. But i don't like food. They don't give. You any extra stuff if you need something even like blanket that s make me upset"
Pros: "I enjoyed that there were constant updates on turbulence and the seats were mostly comfortable."
Cons: "I did not like the fact that despite there being of dozens of empty seats with leg room, and me clearly being unable to fit in the normal seat because of my height I was not allowed to move my seat. Also, most of the food was fantastic, but the breakfast was atrocious."
Pros: "Just a basic airline, don't expect too much."
Cons: "For US passengers, know that Air China most likely won't have your passport number on file to get your boarding pass. This is also known as the VIP number and they will refuse to issue your boarding pass. Not speaking the language can cause more of a headache trying to negotiate the issue. Note that all they need to do is input the passport number into their system. Experienced Air China boarding agents know this but others do not. I was also unable to use their online check in system and instead had to check in at the airport. Make sure to plan ahead. If you have connecting flights through AIr China note that your luggage will only be transferred if you checked them in from a major city. In my case I checked in from LA and my bags were transferred through Beijing to Hailar, but when I went back I checked them in at Hailar and had to physically check them in again at Beijing on to LA."
Cons: "Having to wait 24 hrs in Beijing for a new flight because you can't be on time."
Pros: "All our luggage was at the end with us, nothing missing"
Cons: "The weather delay was not fault of the airline."
Cons: "Flight was 7.5 hours delayed, no reason why, no assistance or offer. This appears to be a common occurrence."
Cons: "Boarding. Service."
Pros: "On time. Good service."
