Pros:This is a complicated review, because I have to balance the negative against several positives that occurred. First, I think I got a good deal on line. Second, we had a horrible flight over with several delays and cancellations due to weather. Instead of arriving in the morning, I reached the rental car desk in the BHM garage about 11:30pm. They were gracious and very helpful, and I needed the car to drive another hour south for the holiday. Finally, there was a mix-up in the billing and the information I received from Alamo 800 number. They were accommodating and resolved it to the best of their ability. They were in a tight spot really. I appreciate their cooperativeness. The car was a pleasure to drive.
Cons:Several negatives occurred with this rental. First, the car was not cleaned thoroughly. A jacket was in the back (I gave that to the desk), and it reeked of cigarette smoke. I mean, it did this for over a week. Like driving in a ash can. But we had no choice: This was the only car they had for me at 11:30pm after a bad day of delayed flights due to weather. I had called earlier in the first day to talk to Alamo and they informed me that a second driver could be added for free, and this was standing policy. The desk thought otherwise and added a $150 charge for my wife. I complained and the desk staff upon return graciously took the charge off, and told me this was not their policy. They were in a bad spot with this conflicting information. I felt bad for them. But then again, I have to check my credit card to see what my charges are at the moment.
