Bed & Breakfast Exterlaer - Antwerp - Building
2
9.6 Excellent (107 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Antwerp, Bed and Breakfast Exterlaer is within a 10-minute drive of Wijnegem Shopping Center and Antwerp Zoo.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully restored house in a quiet residential area. Friendly owners. Nice breakfast with high quality ingredients. We did not sit in the garden as it was too cold outside but in summer it must be a lovely spot to have breakfast.
Cons: Minor comments: parking is for free but it might take some time to find a parking spot as it is located in a residential area. Curtains do not obscure the room completely so you wake up at sunrise.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Unbelievably clean tidy with a cool twisting mix of modern and old - very very cool
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent place, our second stay in this B&B was again superb. Quiet room, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast of off course a very warm and helpful welcome.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Decoration, hospitality, lication
Cons: Everyting! Complete perfection!!! And fantastic decoration & style, designed by the very talented host himself, perfect breakfast, beautiful garden, one of the greatest hospitality experience and close to the biggest natural swimming pond in Belgium, the Sportpaleis, the Riverenhof and the centre of Antwerp. I am a fan!!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners ,who live in the the adjacent townhouse , were gracious and informative. They are artists who beautifully restored ed and furnished the property. The Exterlaer perfectly met our locational needs, and met our it "charm standard" . It is located in an early twentieth century neighborhhod with a diversity of architecture. Free parking was available about a block away.Parking in Central Antwerp is expensive and restricted. A tram, however is located a half block away ,and it provides easy access to Central Antwerp as well as the Osli Coglei (sp?) art nouveau district, Antwerpen is an overlooked city,
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very helpful, made us feel very welcome. The bed was very comfy, the room was lovely. The breakfast in the morning was superb.
Cons: I had a problem with opening the front door with the code. The problem was not with the code itself but turning the knob of the door in the right direction.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house and decor are very attractive and the rooms expansive. The location is close to the city centre easily accessible by No 9 tram. There is an excellent restaurant nearby. The continental breakfast is very comprehensive and tasty catering for all tastes. Daniel and Linda are truly wonderful hosts, nothing is too much trouble and they are very knowledgeable with reference to the local area and the city. If I should need to stay in Antwerp again then undoubtedly it would be here!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Host very friendly. Quite place. Nice breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I think Bed & Breakfast Exterlaer is a guest house rather than a hotel. I would say that it is really cozy and welcoming. Interior inside is basically a home. There is even a cat that will come to say hello at a breakfast! The hotel is located in a quiet and nice area and there is a park nearby. There is a tram line No.9 that will take you to the center of the city in 15 minutes. The hosts attitude is very pleasant. In the beginning I was maybe a little bit confused by the attention from the hosts (that you normally don't get at hotels), but then I got used to it and realized that it is actually a hospitality. The only thing I could point out is that the house has wooden floors inside and when people walk and talk in the staircase one can hear it from the room. But this was not really a problem for me.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best hosts ever! Very recommended

Pros: The location is unbeatable, right in the middle of the old city. The apartment was serviced by a fast elevator, so being on the 3rd floor was no problem. It was very stylish, and impeccably clean.

Pros: This is my go to hotel when visiting Antwerp. It checks all the boxes: great location, parking nearby, cafes in all directions, low key, nice design
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The apartment owners of Tom and Karen are great host. The apartment is spacious and comfortable. The apartment is conveniently located and close to city center. But you will easily notice the age of usage of the apartment. The shower floor of the apartment we stayed allowed water to flow to the rest of bathroom too easily and needs fix.
7.9 Good
Pros: The location is very central. There is super market just opposite & cafes nearby
Cons: Open bathroom.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful family run small hotel with a lot of taste, charm and individuality. It is situated in an Art Deco building. When you enter you feel an old world hospitality there, you meet the owners of the old school of hoteliers who care for you. Staff are helpful, served breakfast had everything one could desire, was delicious and everything was freshly prepared and of a high quality. Room was well appointed, beds were comfortable. The hotel is close enough to public transport to get into medieval Antwerp in about 10 minutes on the tram No 7.
Cons: Nothing related to the hotel itself. There was a small issue about reservation through booking.com which had been already paid but did not show in the system of the hotel, so I had to pay twice. The price was later refunded to me by booking.com.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cool location, beautifully decorated rooms and a friendly host
Cons: All good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The name "B&B The Baron" was quite appropriate. My wife and I felt like we were Baron and Baroness. The B&B was unassuming from the outside but once you enter, you feel like you are transported back in time. The breakfast setting was the most elegant setting we ever experienced. I was fortunate enough to be invited into Luc's library full of his collections of comic books - what an amazing experience. The location was very close to Antwerpen-Centraal and Luc's suggested walk proved to be an excellent introduction. Following his advise we took a long walk on the day of arrival, giving us the first look at the must-see sights. I had a magnificent view of the city from the ferries wheel at the Steenplein and great 360-degree sunset view of the city and the port from the Panorama, the 10th floor roof terrace at MAS. We even had local beer and listened to music at a beer garden on the way to MAS.
Cons: Payment by credit card rather than cash would have been more convenient.

Hotel Franq - Antwerp - Bedroom
12
9.0 Excellent (661 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel FRANQ in Antwerp, you'll be within a 10-minute walk of Cathedral of Our Lady and Antwerp Market Square. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Never stay in Room 303 - hidden inside the wall is some kind of machine which pumps water to the rooms nearby. We were awoken at around 1am by a noise like an aircraft engine - so loud we couldn't speak over it - which lasted for 20 minutes. I reported this to the front desk and around 1:30am the noise stopped, but it returned again around 6am, obviously coinciding with rooms morning showers.
Cons: Reception couldn't have been more unhelpful. It was patently obvious that the noise is a regular, recurring issue but they chose to ruin my nights sleep on purpose. The sound insulation between rooms is terrible, you can hear the TV / doors closing from room to room. But Room 303 (and I guess rooms 403, 203 and 103) are the ones to avoid. The hotel gave us free breakfast (40 euros per day) but nothing can replace a night of lost sleep - particularly when the hotel knows in advance that it is going to do this to you. Breakfast was nice, but not worth the fee and consisted almost entirely of bread and slices of meat.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff was generally quite friendly and helpful. I had requested the staff to help make two appointments for me (hair/nails) as I was attending a wedding and they were very prompt in doing so and very good in choosing two salons within a 5-minute walking distance from the hotel. The location was great, only a few steps walking to some of the major plazas and many great restaurants/bars/churches/buildings very close-by.
Cons: Their standard room was extremely small and very difficult to move around and store our luggage. The bathroom was generally clean but had marks and scratches on the walls. The noise insulation between rooms was not great - you could hear water flowing through pipes and people's conversations in the rooms above/beside. The breakfast was quite pricey and not well-reviewed or recommended so we did not opt for breakfast.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very well appointed and spacious.
Cons: Meals are expensive

Cons: Check in was a bit convoluted, but I did arrive early...

Pros: Second time at this lovely hotel - great location, lovely staff and the bedroom looking out over the marina was excellent. Nice bar and will try the restaurant too next time - coz we'll go back, that's for sure!
Cons: The only minor minor remark would be that there was only one proper coffee capsule next to the coffee machine in the bedroom, the second one was decaffeinated so we had to toss a coin to see who got the decaff! But really not a problem at all.

Restaurant inside this hotel is awesome too with excellent service and quality food.
Cons: nohting..

7.9 Good
Pros: it was good.
Cons: Room size was small.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location by the Antwerp station, lovely staff, decent breakfast and very accommodating - thanks!
6.3 Good
Pros: A reasonable choice when visiting the city. The location is great, the rooms are fairly well-appointed and spacious, the staff are friendly. Overall it is a 3-star hotel so if you expect the basics done well, a clean room and decor that is reasonable but very ‘corporate hotel’ then your expectations will be met. The downsides of the hotel, which they can’t really change, is that the rooms only have one small window so not much in the way of natural light or views in the rooms.
What I will say is that the breakfast was excellent and far exceeded what we were expecting from this level of hotel.
Cons: Only 1 small window in the room leading to a lack of natural light and poor views.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel room near the train station. Not the best location for sightseeing but good if you’re coming and going via Central Station. We had a family room with 2 king beds and it was very spacious.
Cons: The neighborhood isn’t great. Lots of touristy diamond shops and not a great selection of cafes. It’s also a pretty long walk into the main square area.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I want to spend a word to thank the staff, who went above and beyond our expectations in dealing with a problem. When we arrived we found out that all hotel windows cannot open, and one of us could not stay due to claustrophobia; the staff were so kind to refund all nights on that room, despite being entitled to our money. Other than that, so many things are great about the place. Location, modern style, breakfast; super happy with my stay.
Cons: The one mild annoyance was that the rolling bathroom door didn't completely shut, leaving about 1cm space. Great room otherwise.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is right next to the train station so is super easy when travelling into the city via train. No noise heard from the station however which was great...very quiet room. Easy walking distance to most things...
Cons: The only thing we missed was that there was no fridge in the room. We had vitamins that needed to be refrigerated so a little annoying.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast. Good location for my purposes. Friendly and efficient staff.
Cons: No fridge in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good value for money

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was very central, easy to walk everywhere. The room and the bathroom were spacious. The breakfast was very good. The ironing facilities in the room were an extra bonus. You can feel that the owners care about the guests and want them to enjoy the stay.
Cons: We arrived on the late afternoon of a hot day and as the room was on the last floor, directly under the roof it was VERY hot and stuffy in the room. I wish the aircon was on before our arrival as in other hotels as it took really a long time for the room to cool down. Small but important things spoiled otherwise very good impression: the tiny toilet needs a ventilator to be installed ( one can easily suffocate in it!), the shower is very good but there is no shelf for the shower gel, it would be nice to have a mirror in the room, not only in the bathroom).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect! They serve the best coffee ever at breakfast. We will definitely stay here again.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Breakfast is really good.

Pros: Although the building itself is quite old, the room is so clean and we were able to stay here nice and comfortable. I would come back to this hotel again.
Cons: The room was a little warm and we wanted to control the room temperature.

Pros: I’ve stayed there before. The location is great and all major sights are in walking distance. The hotel benefits from its own car park which is a real bonus. My room had a door to the lovely roof gardens which was very quiet and cosy.
Cons: Can’t think of anything.

7.9 Good
Pros: Good room clean and comfortable . Excellent breakfast, Great location for exploring centre of Antwerp
6.7 Good
Pros: Clean beautifully decorated and stylish hotel. Our room was big and airy and felt luxurious and well appointed. The location was very convenient with easy walking distance to everything in the old historic town as well as to the main shopping areas.
Cons: For me the staff missed the mark and did not reflect a luxury boutique hotel. On arrival the receptionist was stressed out and far from welcoming and seemingly made us wait until the clock struck 3pm to give us our room key just because he could and because it states check-in is at 3pm and not (under any circumstances and even if the hotel is not full) before.....Other staff also avoiding any personal encounters and all seemed cold and offish. Not one friendly face.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was absolutely perfect, downtown in the historical part, but very quiet. The interior design of the room and the hotel was very stylish and beautiful.
Cons: I found that there was a slight "old house" smell, but my husband didn't notice it though.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Second time visiting HotelO here. Breakfast excellent, drinks excellent...introduced me to Havn gin! Front desk extremely helpful. Will stay here every time I visit Antwerp from NYC.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location and definitely try and get a room with a unique view of the cathedral!
Cons: It can get noisy but that’s expected staying in the centre with bars and restaurants around you...
6.3 Good
Pros: Very nice street-level café with an excellent breakfast - though you had to pay about €17 extra for it ... My room was on the top floor and was quite large.
Cons: I am never a fan of the baththub-in-middle-of-the-room design. Difficult to get fresh air in the room.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very central to the main areas in the old town and opposite the cathedral
Cons: Being in the central area can be quite noisy at night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and very nice room! The room is a bit small but as you can see from the pictures they use a "glass wall" to separate the bathroom from the rest so the room has a really great atmosphere to it. There is also a curtain you can use if you need the privacy.
Cons: Everything was good.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast - quirky hotel - great room with a lovely view of the Cathedral spire if it hadn't been covered in scaffold. Nevertheless a fun space. Great mattress.
Cons: The room we were in was a little on the small size but we knew it would be and we just had too much stuff.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast starts a little late, at 7:30

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and Very nice staff!
6.3 Good
Pros: Location was great, communal are was nice.
Cons: On the 5th floor and 1 elevator, and a very noisy one at that. Took a while to get to sleep with the constant noise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location. The deluxe rooms offer a bathtub worth the small extra.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed and sheets The service The breakfast Friday evening drinks in the courtyard The location
Cons: Lights above the wash hand bassin and the door to the bathroom was pretty tougher open
7.1 Good
Cons: No room service Small bathroom with shower not enclosed Air conditioning did not work very well
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel has an excellent location and Mr. Alexander of the reception is very helpful. For a 4 stars hotel, the breakfast is not a buffer, clients have to wait with patience for a fixed menu of the breakfast decided by the hotel, no choice or little choice if you wish to have a healthy food with some tomato. Hotel did not inform us in advance about registration of our car for the low emission zone especially requested by the City and we believe that hotel should assist its foreign clients to do this very complicated registration. The pollution is mainly caused by those who drive in the city every day, but not by the foreign travelers who drive to the city only for few days.
5.4 Okay
Pros: location
Cons: booked a room which stated it was tiny, there was no room to walk around the bed , don,t think this should be advertised as a double room more of a single. The only upgrade was the junior suite which was £120 more for the two nights, i could have stayed in a far nicer hotel for the same money, I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone and will definitely not stay there again, there was only a part roll of toilet paper there on arrival , on the Sunday we went back to the room at 5pm to change for the evening and our room had not cleaned or clean towels.
9.2 Excellent
Cons: No air conditioning which in summer in the city really is a must.
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing!
Cons: 24/7 means open all times not the case here they shut the front door around 8:30pm and it’s a nightmare to check in after! Not all the rooms have air conditioning that’s a bit of a joke. No celling light in the bedroom leaves the rooms pretty dark. Breakfast a rip off. Best avoid
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and the style of the hotel.
Cons: Only 1 pillow, prefer 2 pillows. The floor in the shower room doesn’t have a ledge to keep the water in the shower area. Would be better to put a little ledge so the water doesn’t go all over the floor.
