Luma Hotel Times Square - New York - Building

9.2 Excellent (4,602 reviews)
Overview Reviews
New York is the city that never sleeps, but guests at the Luma Hotel Times Square get all the rest they need. The hotel is located in just the right location to allow for an escape from the hustle and bustle of New York when it is time to rest, but a quick walk to all the action. Luma Hotel Times Square is composed of 130 guest rooms. The décor is contemporary for a sophisticated atmosphere. The rooms are clean and comfortable and are well stocked with snacks for purchase. An extremely thoughtful option for stay is the floor reservation. Luma allows floor reservation for guests who are traveling in a large group or just want to have some extra privacy. The beloved Bryant Park is a quick 1-minute walk away and just beyond the park is the New York Public Library. A 4-minute walk in the other direction leads to time square. Along the way, guests can admire the incredible architecture or maybe stop into the New Amsterdam Theatre. There are great shops on every corner for the shopaholics. The hotel restaurant is run by award-winning Chef Jose Garces. His dishes are inspired by ancient Basque culture. Guests can visit the restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Hard Rock Cafe is located a few blocks away and is family friendly and fun for everyone. To see all of New York would take a lifetime, but to visit the key attractions in Manhattan is possibly by staying at the Luma Hotel Times Square.
6.8 Good
Pros: Loved the location. We were able to walk to several places we wanted to go. Room was comfortable - beds extremely comfortable. We had a room with 2 kings. We were on the go most of the time so we didn't have much contact with the staff. However, they were friendly as we came and went.
Cons: Didn't like the automated lights in the bathroom. They were set to go off after a few minutes so we ended up taking showers in the dark! I would have preferred not having a fully stocked mini refrigerator. Also wasn't thrilled to discover that I was charged $20 AFTER we checked out and left. We didn't consume anything from the refrigerator or the snack basket so I have no clue what I was charged for additionally.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms, comfort, location
Cons: Nothing to complain

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved our deluxe suite room that had sliding doors which kept each room very quiet even when watching tv with the volume turned up in one room. The push button controls were really cool for the lights and privacy settings. Enjoyed the free breakfast at Atrio and the friendly service from everyone there especially the host. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and were able to accommodate a late checkout of 2pm for us. Appreciated the unique designs and architecture of the hotel. Liked that it was located right next to the World Trade Center, and of course Shake Shack. Liked using the exercise room and business center which were very clean and well maintained. Overall it was a very relaxing and pleasant stay.
Cons: Nothing really except that there was no swimming pool or entertainment room with a pool table or table tennis.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very welcoming from check-in to check-out and definitely cared about my needs! Had the best night's sleep, even better than a 4-star hotel (and it says quite a lot!) The room has been excellently maintained! Anyone traveling in North Jersey or visiting New York would greatly benefit from staying here since it's so close to the light rail and buses!
Cons: Just don't accidentally park where it says "NBPA." Arriving at night, you'll see those as your first parking spots - that's not for hotel guests! Looks like some people already started parking there and there was towing going on in the middle of the night. There could be larger signs to mark that, but that's not of the hotel's concern - this hotel has a perfect mark!

Pros: Location
Cons: Old fashion very loud poor AC system
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Location is great next to Central Park and a short walk to all the midtown shopping of Fifth And Madison Avenues. Taj has added the spice and great Indian hospitality.

Pros: Large and renovated bathroom
Cons: Bedroom small
9.0 Excellent
Pros: I love Indian food and since the Pierre is a member of the Taj Group, they have several traditional Indian cuisine items on the menu, even for breakfast. Plus, their Indian food is delicious!
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Location, staff, security and quiet elegance. Beds were also extremely comfortable. Cleanliness of rooms was noticeably good. Hotel is very quiet at night. You will get a good night's sleep.
Cons: They need an easy coffee shop with coffee and breakfast breads/toast available on the go at a reasonable price. Coffee service in lobby should remain open longer.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: The suite was beautiful and nicely appointed. Room was upgraded to suite due to my anniversary. They sent gratis champagne and cake which was waiting for us after dinner.
Cons: We were on 4th floor and room was next to heating/AC machines. So long as you didn't look out the window, it was lovely. (I recognize I didn't pay for park view but street view but did end up with the single worst view room in the place.)
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Luxurious hotel with superb location! The staff are caring, friendly & very helpful with restaurant recommendations or any other needs!
Cons: The superior rooms are on the smaller side as compared to other luxury hotels in the same price range
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm and friendly atmosphere
6.0 Good
Cons: The windows in the room were frosted. No view, not even of the air shaft. The room was discounted and the advertisement said, 'Courtyard View', so expectations were low. But FROSTED WINDOWS at the PIERRE.....WTF. If I were the Pierre I would be embarrassed to sell that room. Save it as a spare, use it to comp. someone when you are sold out, but don't advertise it as a Courtyard View when rooms at Rikers' Island have a better view of a courtyard than cell block 412, at the Pierre. I cannot believe the Pierre needs my $500/night and would stoop to selling this room, which is so below their supposed standards. Get rid of the elevator escorts and you won't have to mislead people into an unsatisfying purchase. No more Taj, Pierre for this vacationer. The Essex House has worked fine in the past and will again in the future. HUGE disappointment.

9.4 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel, incredible view and far enough away from the craziness of Times Square but a pretty easy walk to wherever you want to go. I was skeptical because of the deal we got on hotels.com but it was an awesome spot!
Cons: No closet in the hotel room.
2.0 Mediocre
Cons: The hotel never had my reservation so whatever I booked through Kayak/getaroom was bogus. The hotel could not meet the rate so I was stuck paying hundreds of dollars more. Your service almost left me with no rooom for my trip. This is totally unacceptable and I deserve compensation for this.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: My wife and I stayed at the Palace many years ago and this stay was the first under Lotte's ownership. It's a big hotel, so it lacked the intimacy of some place like the Lowell Carlyle or the Plaza Athenee. That said, it's considerably less expensive, unless you are in the Towers. What I found remarkable was the consistency of staff attitude. Friendly, appropriately personal, attentive, and helpful.
Cons: $50 for a simple breakfast (farro porridge with fruit, coffee, and a freshly made vegetable juice, was a new high (or low, depending on how you look at it) for New York. Delicious for sure, but pricey.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Decor, location, cleanliness
Cons: $16.00 for wifi
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large rooms, excellent location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great, service excellent, rooms were huge in the Tower
Cons: No coffe in room, very pricey to have sent to your room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was comfortable. The service was great
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautiful hotel in a great location! Loved my stay there!!
Cons: Charging 16.00 per day for wifi is insane
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our room directly overlooked St. Patrick's Cathedral and it was gorgeous. The room was spacious (unusual for NY), clean and comfortable. There's a wonderful café right off the beautiful hotel lobby for specialty coffees and French pastries, and the fitness center is amazing. Plenty of bar/restaurants within walking distance, as are many of the tourist attractions such as Rock Center. I would highly recommend this hotel, and will look into staying there again.
Cons: There was nothing that I disliked about this hotel, although I would have preferred a lower internet rate (it is $16/day).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff adjusted an error in the hotels reservation immediately, at check in. Carol OConner recognized the issue and made the adjustment in a way that thoughtful and professional.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: It was my first time in New York and the location could not be more ideal. The hotel was central to all of the main attractions. We stayed around Thanksgiving and all of the holiday decor were already stunningly displayed. A lot of tourists stopped by the outside courtyard, which is quite the photo opportunity. Inside the lobby, they hosted a "happy hour" during the weekdays around 5pm which consisted of small bites - all delicious and inclusive with your stay. My boyfriend had to work during our visit and a shuttle was provided to the financial district. The staff were excellent and very friendly.
Cons: We had a bit of a situation where we found rotten food in our mini fridge leftover from previous guests. The manager was very accommodating and provided great customer service. The only other negatives were that the internet was not included with your stay and the bellman/greeters stood by the door but did not open the doors for you which I found a bit odd.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Front desk personnel was very professional and nice. She tried to accommodate all our request.
Cons: None
The Knickerbocker Hotel - New York - Building
15
8.9 Excellent (3,599 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The Knickerbocker is a long-established mainstay of the New York City area. Established back near the turn of the 20th century, in 1906, it provides a view of Times Square, which is a one-minute walk away. The 42nd street subway station provides access to the rest of the iconic city of New York, and the Empire State Building is just a 13-minute stroll from the hotel. The rooms offer a polished experience, and they come with designer toiletries and high thread-count sheets. There are also minibars available and the free Wi-Fi and flat screen TVs make the stay feel like home. However, the chic restaurant gives guests a unique experience that is sure to be memorable. Guests can relax at the rooftop bar and those who favor a smoke can enjoy a cigar in the cigar lounge. This historic hotel also offers a comprehensive gym to give guests a chance to work up a sweat. In addition, it has parking available for a fee, which helps ensure the safety of guests’ cars. It has an impressive capacity of 330 guestrooms, which include 27 Junior Suites and four Tribute Suites: the Martini, Parrish, Cohan, and Caruso. Each has its own style and flavor, and impresses with unique floor plans that help guests get a sense of the architectural spice of this well-seasoned gem. The experience is capped off with St. Cloud, a stylish rooftop bar that epitomizes the New York City chill scene. Enjoy finely honed cocktails and craft beers while taking in the sights and sounds of the city below.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Once you get past the unprepossessing lobby, the hotel is really excellent. We were upgraded to a junior suite, which was large, comfortable and well-appointed. It was bitterly cold so we ate in the hotel, choosing the bar's little plate menu over the Vlentine's Day special menu; each choice was delicious. Large, contemporary bar and restaurant (maybe showing a little wear on the cushions) and excellent service. Location, right on the corner of Times Square, can't be beat if you want to be in the middle of it all. Not cheap, but we weren't on a penny pinching trip. Worth every penny. Special mention to the concierge for fulfilling a couple special requests.
Cons: As noted, the lobby is decidedly underwhelming although the staff was friendly and helpful. Otherwise, no complaints!

Pros: Clean spacious rooms, good service, not great wi-fi

Pros: Large bath sheets When I called guest services they answered using my name Staff very friendly and so helpful
Cons: Shower could do with more pressure
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Knockerbocker was a very nice hotel with a great location. My only complaint was the day that we left, we stored our bags for a few hours. When we came back to pick them up, it took 20 minutes or so to get them. I had to catch a flight. The front desk was unapologetic about it. They just stood at the desk, while customers waited and were dissatisfied. They need to make sure they are staffed properly at a busy time, and if not, other staff should pitch in. It should be a group effort, because it makes the hotel better as a whole.
7.1 Good
Pros: Continental breakfast was quite okay but could do with changes day-to-day. Consistent in room decor and stylien
Cons: Confusing lobby area. This could be fixed by relocating reception to the left side of the entry area rather than way up the end of the hall. It is too dimly lit too in my opinion. Our Junior Suite (1501) was quite dark with small windows. The complimentary tablet is a gimmick and is not likely to be useful to anyone with a smartphone or their own tablet/laptop. No hand towel rack—where do you put them? Disconcertingly loose bathroom/shower fittings. No coffee. Stain on couch.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The renovation last year really upgraded this NYC classic. Now the interiors are just as lux as the classic facade. Great location in Times Square but quiet and tranquil retreat inside. Great service and really friendly staff. We enjoyed our girls weekend immensely.
Cons: Avoid if you don't like fighting through crowds at Times Square.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Impeccable service Immaculate rooms Excellent location between Times Square and Bryant Park
Cons: Can't complain about anything.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: 2 queen beds made this hotel perfect for our family of four. Located right on Times Square, the hotel held our bags after checkout while we went across the street to see a Broadway show.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We came for the birth of my first grandchild.the hotel is very modern and sleek. Our room was large and well appointed with all of the modern technological conveniences. The mattress was very comfortable with high thread count linens. The bathroom was large and had more bath accessories than I have ever seen. I.e. Cuff links, tooth brush, paste, etc. I loved the large soaking tub. We never heard any outside noise even though this hotel is located in Times Square From the front desk to the doorman, the service was incredible. Leilani, one of the managers even gave us a gift for the new baby. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Pros: My husband and I were traveling with our 2 adult children and their traveling companions, so we booked 3 rooms. All rooms were spacious and comfortable. Decor was trendy, with high end amenities. We loved the rooftop bar and had a great meal at the attached restaurant. Location was perfect. Overall, a great stay.
Cons: Some of the furniture in the room was showing some wear. And the desk chair was the only chair in the room. Also, the closet was very small. Not enough space to hang our clothes and coats.
