Cons:1. I called into budget the day before and they said the hold would be $200-$400 for the car. Actual price $1000 2. The doors did not lock, from keyfob, hard Key or hand. They’re trying to bill me for a new Key even though I have my card insurance, the kayak coverage and the B.S Costa Rican insurance they said was mandatory 3. They threatened to charge my card an extra $250 for a cleaning fee for excessive dirt on the car. Which is also insanely high and unheard of. 4. The listed drop off location is not the actual location. It’s about three miles off site 5. Car rental company doesn’t reply to emails, or messages and calling in there is a language barrier and they apologize I’ve rented cars now from 14 countries, this was by far the worst experience
Pros:The car itself was great for getting around Costa Rica, I don't recommend anything less than an SUV for that. The problem we encountered was paying for the insurance through Kayak via Allianz. When we arrived at Budget having insurance already, we were told that if we wanted to use our third party insurance (Allianz) we had to put down a $3,000.00 hold on a credit card that we weren't prepared for and was not easy to resolve. We ended up having to cancel the Allianz insurance and purchase insurance through Budget which brought our total from $140 (car rental + Allianz at time of booking through Kayak) to $400 (rental + Budget insurance). Not a cost we had prepared for, plus we had to spend over an hour resolving the issue once we arrived at Budget.
Pros:RAV4 had enough luggage space to handle family of 4
Cons:RAV4 wasn't powerful enough to make it up some of the steep mountainous roads.

Cons:Car was OK but had a lot of scratches/dings/dents that they made you feel you would be responsible for if YOU didn't point them out before you left. Horrible rental process, took over 1 hour No physical address given for return which caused stress & wasted time upon return to a strange city with a complete language barrier Lots of personnel standing around while customers waited Forced a minimum $50/day insurance on you even if you declared you were covered
Pros:I was very satisfied with the price. But the car was old and sometimes it was hard to start and keep running. Unlike other budget experiences for sure
Cons:On pickup, I was told that I was required to pay $250 more for additional insurance, or I wouldn't be allowed to rent the car. With my spouse, and 2 tired kids in tow in a foreign country, I had no choice but to pay up. False advertising at least, fraud at worst!
