Once we made it to the car rental facility via shuttle (all other car rentals are on site…that was the first alarm bell that went off), we had to wait about an hour until our name was called (we were second in line!!). The staff was moving at a snails pace. I almost thought at one point that they were going that slow so we would get frustrated and leave. It almost worked. Once my name was finally called, the guy was going through the contract with me and suddenly it was an additional $120!!! I asked him to explain that to me and there was a $20 daily charge for going to another state (our trip was 1.5 hrs each way) and an $80 fee for insurance. That’s such a scam! Most personal car insurance plans cover rentals. I had to show proof of insurance (had my husband send a pic) and he removed the fee. The gas tank was only half full and I was told to bring it back at that. Also a scam bc it’s harder to control than a full tank, so I brought it back at 3/4 tank. The entire experience was so frustrating. I will pay the few extra dollars to go to a legit car rental for now on. What a joke!

They were able to accomodate a last-minute booking on a busy day. The staff running the car return was friendly and accommodating, especially when I had to return and ask about an item I had forgotten in my rental car. The staff was able to locate and return my item in a timely fashion and were very friendly about the whole ordeal.

First off, communication between the rep and I at pick up from the Calgary terminal went well. Overall the gentleman was accommodating and courteous. However my interaction at the drop-off location didn't go as well. I had planned to drop the vehicle off at 4pm on a Saturday at the McPhillips St location in Winnipeg, MB. I received a call from a Hertz rep from McPhillips stating that their location closes at 4pm however, I could return the rental to the Erin St location as they close a little later and stated to me that there would be no extra charges made to me if I decided to drop it off there instead. 4pm hits and upon arrival at the Erin St location, a rep named Yuting came out as I pulled in to inspect the rental. After a quick inspect, it was claimed that I chipped (small rock chip) the windshield, the windshield that already had a rock chip in it at pick up. I advised Yuting of this and she asked me to email my video/photos from pick up to her for management review and since, I have had received zero communication from Hertz. My credit card was authorized for a specific mount, including a “damage deposit,” that authorization sat on my card for a week until it fell off. Now, instead of charging my card the authorized amount I signed the contract for, they’re charging my card small unauthorized amounts that equal and surpass the original authorized amount I signed for with absolutely no communication with me. I book rentals on a somewhat regular basis but I don't normally book rentals with Hertz, as i normally do with Enterprise and have never had an issue... I will never be a returning customer of Hertz…

Made a booking reservation 20 hours in advance. Once I got there, I was told they aren't accepting any booking reservations made in the last 24 hours. Was stuck in a hotel for 2 days, waiting on a vehicle. Horrible experience, and was still charged for the extra insurance with no way to call someone about it.

Only 400Km in total (Ontario & US) for your rental if you take the car into US for even a day. Also, the cars are not in good mechanical conditions, couldn’t drive above 110KPH on highways! Best to book with some reputable rental companies even if you have to pay a little more!

The drop off/pick up is outside of the airport. If you need to drop off the car early and they are closed you have to drop off the car and take an Uber or taxi to the airport at your own cost. Just a heads up when booking.

Excellent! Staff at airport (Pauli) was efficient and helpful. Car was spotless. We had to put down an extra $200 as a retainer in case we didn't fuel up car or we put too many miles on it. I expect to get that $200 back. I'll check my credit card statement on a day or two. I would recommend Driving Force.

The address listed on the 3rd party site is incorrect. We took a taxi to the old building then had to take another one. When we got there, nothing was explained to us. We walked out to the car, and was told that we were given an “upgrade” and with that upgrade no longer had unlimited miles. Worse experience with a rental car agency.

Pickup was very poor. The staff at the front desk were very nice and professional. The problems began when selecting and picking up the car. We were asked to check the condition of a black car in an closed garage with poor lighting. Next to impossible. Then you have to show the problems to an agent who has some sort of screen to look further. About a dozen people were all leaving at once and so it took the better part of an hour from being shown the car to actually leaving the airport. Once we got it out into the light it was obvious we had missed a scratch. Upon dropping off, the process was very fast. However I wasn't given a receipt, and the one promised to my email never came. So now I have to chase it down. The car itself was otherwise fine, and was problem free.

Cons:

No gas station close to the airport and was forced to fill upon return at NATIONAL. No fault of the rental company but, an inconvenience and added cost none the less.

I rented a car through kayak only to be told by the vendor on arrival that they were sold out and the online merchant who sold the deal to me neglected to give them any contact so that they could let me know. This was discovered after my ride left leaving me stranded on an unfamiliar road in an unfamiliar city in the cold at 5 PM when essentially everything was shutting down and derailing my plans completely. It looks like you over sold and now are pawning me off on the third party (carrentals.com) for resolution “in a few days.” The reservation was paid in advance for a rental that KAYAK was claiming to guarantee and failed to deliver. On your own website you write “we work hard as the world’s leading travel search engine to get our users the information they need so they can plan trips the way they want, confidently.” In big bold letters no less! What a crock, this was my first experience booking through you and I’ll be sure to tell everyone I know about my experience with KAYAK. Finally I request again you either secure a car so I may complete my delayed travel or refund what I paid. Thank you.

Bait and switch not appreciated. Printed quote we had from Thrifty.com was not honored and went up by $60 at pick up. All manner of fast-talking reasons were cited, all of which had already been accounted for when we got the quote online. Branch or quote software needs examination.

Make sure all vehicles have apple car play. It is safer for travellers and others on the road. Also figure out your lot it is always hard to get in and out. Dangerous even.

We waited in line for 20 minutes only to be told they had no car for us. They walked us down to Hertz where we waited another 30 minutes in line only to be told we had to wait for a car. We waited 45 minutes. We ended up arriving to our destination over an hour late and missing an important dinner. The car itself was fine, but we will never rent from dollar again - when you add in the list time and missed dinner with colleagues, this was a very expensive rental and one we don’t want to repeat. There was no apology and no explanation - they oversold and did nothing.

Cons:

The car reaked of the guys cologne, it was also dirty when he gave it to us. The guy was not very friendly and when he dropped us off back at the airport, I had asked him if he could drop us near the taxi section and he dropped us off in a dead zone of the airport really far from the taxis with all our luggage and skis...

I was very hesitant to book with Ace after reading the reviews but they were half the price of other rental cars so I figured I’d try it. I was pleasantly surprised. I had to wait a bit to get my car when I arrived in Vancouver but when I did it was a brand new Jeep which was a free upgrade from what I reserved. I had no problems on the drive from Vancouver to Calgary (and all the sightseeing trips in between). When I dropped off the car the staff even gave us a ride to the hotel, saving us cab or Uber fare. Thanks!!

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.

We booked a car for $140 for 6 days. I checked several times to make sure the car rental was at the airport, not with a shuttle. When we arrived, and finally found an attendant for U-Save amongst the crowd when you exit SJD (Cabo) airport, he indicated we would take a shuttle to the car rental office. We still waited 5-10 minutes for the shuttle. When we finally arrived, they said there were mandatory insurance fees of nearly $60/day, which would bring my total closer to $500–that’s more than triple the price I had reserved with. That was supposed to be the total cost. After much back and forth, they said there’s nothing they could do and that this 3rd party insurance is required in Mexico. We were almost going to agree, about to start the paperwork, then they said they would have to charge $1500 as a deposit for incidentals. This was NOT a hold, this was going to be a charge that they would refund. I’ve rented cars before and I understand a deposit for incidentals. But this amount seemed outrageously high, especially in light of the forced insurance. We decided to skip the car rental altogether and just used taxis/Uber to get around. It cost us much much less, and definitely less headache. I would never ever book with U-Save ever again. And generally be wary of renting a car in Cabo for that matter, as they just try to impose additional costs and triple the anticipated cost.
