Cons: Took over an hour to receive the car seat. Car ended up having a bent axel because rear tire had extreme uneven wear. Customer service is pretty much nonexistent. They tell you to call the place where you rented it from, but they never picked up(over 2hours) and the mailbox was full. Had to switch out cars and it was a really big pain. I was in another city but to even get it approved was extremely hard. Bad experience. The deposit is as much as your rental cost, which is crazy as most places just charge $50 for deposit then bill you at the end. They set a pending charge of double my rental cost.

Cons: That was the worse experience I have ever had. We waited in line for 45 minutes with one person ahead of us. We were told the system was down and the "one" girl that was working was new and she couldn't get anyone to help. So we went to Thrifty car rental and they were very accommodating and nice. So I will never use Payless again!!!!

Cons: There was only person at the check-out counter. When I returned the car, the system was down and I never received a final receipt. Now I am trying to find out why my credit card was charged $144 more than it should have been and I'm getting nowhere. No one even answers the number given for the local office. The whole experience was disastrous!

Horrible 1st time experience
Cons: The rental agent at the counter in Atlanta was rude and only cared about regurgitating the policy and could care less that I'd had a traumatic experience. I was on a business trip and had a blow out, and when I went to exchange the car to make it back home to the Memphis area, I had the worst customer experience in my 41 years of life at the Payless counter by the supervisor Lisa. She wouldn't even give me her last name! I will NEVER use this company again nor will I be using AVIS either because they are the parent company. I went to Alamo after this ordeal and they got me on the road again in minutes.
Pros: Location was convenient and a nice office. The staff were very polite, however they were not immediately helpful when our car was not ready.
Cons: The car we reserved was not available due to the fact that it was Labor Day weekend and the volume of rentals. The Enterprise staff assured us that 1 or 2 people who were returning a compact car at the same time of our rental would be arriving, but those renters didn't arrive on time so we were waiting around until Enterprise made a judgment call to give us an upgrade to an SUV. This seems like a solid solution but the SUV smelled terrible of smoke so we immediately had to take it to CVS for Febreeze and leave the windows open for a day or two to try and clean the car.

The Enterprise employees closed up early
Cons: The Enterprise desk decided to close-up early and the rental desk that was supposed to cover for them was useless. Basically, that guy told us to go to the rental desk upstairs for service, but everyone had gone home up there too. It was just before midnight when all of this was happening and fortunately the Avis employees were still there because they hooked us up. Based on this experience I would never recommend renting with Enterprise and especially not out of the Memphis airport.

Pros: Very pleasant employees even at 1030pm. Solid customer service and not pushy on all the option add-on services/charges.
Cons: Seemed unprepared for reservations. The lot had three mini-vans available and otherwise we had to wait for the employees to bring up new cars. To make up for it, they gave me a very nice upgrade, but would have saved me time and them money if they were simply prepared with the vehicle I reserved.

Highly recommend enterprise in Memphis on Union S
Pros: Drop off in Memohis was fast, courteous, friendly and helpful. All credit goes to Torrence. Will only rent from Enterprise because of Torrance Williams.
Cons: Awful experience picking up car in Nashville. Wanted to give me a smaller car and I paid for. Finally agreed to give us a Jetta for an intermediate car. However could not charge the phone because a fuse was needed for the cigarette lighter. Was told I had to take the car to a tire place to get the fuse replaced. I reluctantly agreed to do this. When I arrived at the car place for the fuse I would told I would have to wait at least a half hour. This was totally unacceptable for a customer. Return to enterprise who again tried to give me the compact car. After expressing my displeasure I was finally given a Chevy Malibu.
Pros: Quick, good value and no delays. Staff behind counter didn't hold me up trying to sell me on everything from insurance coverage to upgrades to gas plans. I told them up front what I wanted and nothing more and she processed me without making me go through the Q&A. Return of vehicle was a non-event as well. Thanks!

Pros: The car was clean and the drop off was pretty simple.
Cons: Pickup was a hassle and took much longer than it should have. After flying all day, we just wanted to quickly get our car and get to our family, but the pickup agent made sure none of that was easy. The guy was trying to nickel and dime us with every feature and upgrade, and when he gave us prices he never mentioned that any of the prices he was giving us were per day. He'd say stuff like "it's only $4.99 for tire coverage." I just felt like he was being purposefully vague to mislead us. He also wouldn't let my fiancé pay with her card without us adding her as a driver since the car was under my name. All in all my experience with the pickup ruined my overall experience. I won't rent from Alamo again.

Cons: The staff were very rude and unhelpful at the Memphis airport. They said we could not pay except with a major bank card which I had. However, they would not accept it because they said they could not run a debit as a credit card. Luckily, I had another credit card on me, but then they insisted on breaking the rental down into two separate transactions as we were renting Saturday-Monday but returning the car in New Orleans. They said we could return on Monday and renew the rental for one day, returning to New Orleans Alamo by 7PM Monday night. However, when we returned on Monday, they refused to do so as we were considered a "walk-up" despite having a rental already. The staff made us leave, get on the internet, and make an additional reservation before they would fulfill our order. We also had to change cars for no apparent reason. Nothing was explained to us and the staff members were rude and unhelpful overall.

No Cars Available During Pickup - Long Wait
Pros: Very nice clean, comfortable car. Price was reasonable.
Cons: Long line for car pickup, only one agent working. Received key and was told to go outside to pick up the car, there were no cars outside. Waited almost an hour for a car. Both of these delayed our trip considerably.

Used kayak to reserve a Thrifty car and, again, it ended up in the Thrifty system for the wrong day. 4th time that has happened.. That's a kayak.com issue
Thrifty wanted 500 more dollars to do a walk up rental.
Got on the kayak app, made a reservation with budget (the due was correct thisbtime) while standing outside their door.
When I walked up to the desk, they said I would have to wait an hour for the system to update. Really????
Asked if they would match the price on my confirmation email as a walk up. They said no.
Walked to the avis counter 4 feet away and asked if they would price match the price on my email and 15 mins later I was driving out of the gate.
Thrifty and budget, you have some stupid customer service agents. You let 450 dollars walk right out the front door. Dumb dumb dumb business.

Reservation NOT Met!
Cons: I reserved a convertible several days in advance for a very special occasion and Budget didn't have one available upon my arrival. I had to rent from another agency at the last minute for twice the price. I'll never book with budget again.
Pros: Customer service did provide a car quicker than they had originally said one would be available.
Cons: Went to the counter to ask about cars. I was told they didn't have any cars available. I went online and reserved a car and it said available. Went back to the counter and was told it would be at least another hour before any would be available. Systems should do a better job of communicating.

KAYAK and AVIS drop the ball.
Cons: We reserved a mini van around 10 days prior to pickup. We received a phone call the day before asking if we had to have a mini van, if we would want a Ford Explorer instead. I said "no", we needed a minivan. We arrived at 8:30 the next morning, to start our family vacation by renting the minivan, and there was no minivan. The Avis employee said that there had been a glitch on KAYAK and on AVIS website that quoted a lower price on the minivans, therefore causing them all to be rented. There was no minivan there, even though they called me the night before asking me if I wanted something different, and I told them no. They again asked if I wanted an Explorer, and I told them "no" again. They didn't even have an Explorer on site to rent. After waiting for 20 minutes, nothing happened. No minivan, no Explorer, nothing. I called ENTERPRISE and reserved an minivan over the phone, which was DOUBLE the rate that KAYAK/AVIS quoted me, but it was available immediately. I still have received no explanation from KAYAK or AVIS. Probably wont use either of these companies again.
Pros: I read some reviews that made me nervous I was going to have a hard time, but it ended up being a good choice for me. I picked up my car in Memphis, and returned it after driving to Nashville. In both places, I found friendly staff, short lines, enough cars to choose from, car was in great condition and very clean, and a super easy return process. And all for a really great price.
Cons: nothing - my experience went very smoothly.

Charged the wrong amount
Cons: I was quoted $21.70 per day with a total of $70.70. I was charged $33.39 per day with a total of $107.59. I picked up exactly as scheduled and dropped of 30 minutes early. Dollar said that they cannot change their rate that I need to go thru Kayak. What do I need to do to get my refund? My confirmation number is K0774942.

Cons: After standing in line for almost 30 minutes, the desk agent didn't even try to pull up my information. I told her my name and said I made a reservation through kayak and she sent me away staying there were no cars. She refused to even type in my name to find out if I had a car reserved. I Ended up taking a taxi to my hotel.

Cons: Terribly slow service and long line at pickup. Poor signage and instructions at drop off (dropped off on holiday). I was told that a receipt for fuel purchase was necessary for drop off, but since I bought fuel at a pay-at-pump station that was closed on the holiday, I did not get a receipt for fuel purchase. I hope I do not get charged for fuel. Will no longer rent from Hertz.
